Katie's move from homeschooling to the bustling halls of public high school brought challenges and triumphs, from confronting bullies to capturing life through a camera lens. These stories aren't just her own—they're a mosaic of resilience, a reminder of how personal battles can lead to surprising growth and the discovery of inner strength.

Katie leaves us with an open invitation to join her and Bailey's journey, sharing their social media handles with a promise of positivity and encouragement. Speaker 3:

Good job, good job.

Speaker 1:

Wardrobe era right.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Bailey is focused in on this.

Speaker 3:

He's very tree-oriented.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, no, no, bailey's not playing.

Speaker 3:

Good boy, come here, he's obsessed.

Speaker 1:

So I think we talked about this last time. We had a conversation before all of this about, like, what Bailey means to you and what does Bailey mean to you.

Speaker 3:

My best friend. He's the greatest gift I could have ever gotten. I love Jacob. He makes everything better when we go out. Everyone just loves him. I love seeing people's faces. When I see him, he high-fives everyone. He's so cute.

Speaker 1:

Bailey's a personality.

Speaker 3:

Oh gosh, he's such a personality, he is crazy. I'll tell him to sit and he just decides just to jump out of nowhere. Want to take a picture? Oh yeah, I'll see you. Crazy like. I'll tell him to sit and he just decides just to jump out of nowhere. I'll take a picture.

Speaker 1:

oh yeah, or he does like a sit up or he'll just do random things. I'm like, okay, go, but bailey shows off for camera, though sometimes it depends on his mood one day.

Speaker 3:

He's just like like no, no, I don't want to do it like you're trying to get a picture with the other day and you're so tired he's just like no, no, no, I'm like come on, so tired, he's just like no, no, no, it happened. I'm like come on, baby smile. And he's just like nope. So I'm like, okay, fine.

Speaker 1:

So question though how many people follow Bailey now? Bailey has a high he's. Bailey's got a. He's got 500 people following. Oh yeah, bailey has more followers than me, that's for sure, but Bailey's way more interesting than I am too.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I'm trying to train him and get him to be more interesting?

Speaker 1:

No, but he's got skills. Yeah, like I love the yeah and he's smart. He's a smart dog.

Speaker 3:

He's smart Like. I don't even know how to teach him sometimes, and I just try to do what I can and he goes. Okay, I got it.

Speaker 1:

And he just does his thing yeah.

Speaker 3:

He just does it, he goes. Okay, I got you. I know what you're trying to say. She is the most special thing in the entire world Just the greatest, smartest, most loving dog I've ever had.

Speaker 1:

What dogs did you have before that?

Speaker 3:

Six chihuahuas.

Speaker 1:

Six chihuahuas, six chihuahuas. So now you have a real dog.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Oh my goodness, yeah, so now you have a real dog.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, sorry, all the chihuahua people.

Speaker 2:

I apologize, I've never had a dog. You've never had a dog before. Actually, I I have, but it wasn't really my dog it was like a dog that was homeless or something.

Speaker 1:

I I think so I've I've only had, I've had three dogs, and all of them were when I was. What's a wee lad a long time ago yes, it doesn't it doesn't work, it doesn't count anymore yes, can you speak? Yes, okay yay, there you go. So so who is bailey to you like this? Is this random dog is your service service dog, my best friend pretty much. He goes everywhere with me and bailey has his own social media social media.

Speaker 1:

Dog's journey with bailey dog's journey with bailey, we'll go ahead and put that on in link that up. So so, katie, tell us a little bit about you though I love to craft.

Speaker 3:

I do a lot of beading embroidery. Uh, I love going adventures. I love photography. Take a lot of beading embroidery. I love going on adventures. I love photography. I take a lot of pictures. Yeah, I love going on adventures and exploring everything and anything I can.

Speaker 1:

But that's just. You're downplaying this a little bit, because I've seen your post and you're like all over. Yeah, southern california, you go to places that I've never even heard of before. Yeah, like, um, like the place you were talking about in san diego at the time, the uh, the flower fields the flower just opened. I'm so excited it just opened up again just opened, the first of march oh, yeah, I can't wait.

Speaker 3:

I think we're going next month nice can't wait do you take bailey with next month. Can't wait.

Speaker 2:

Do you take Bailey with every adventure he goes?

Speaker 3:

everywhere. Only time we leave him home is a big doctor's appointment or something. Usually he goes everywhere with me.

Speaker 2:

I have a question, because I see a lot of service dogs and they usually have a collar, a vest. Yeah, does Bailey wear that like when you're out and about, or is he kind of like?

Speaker 3:

no, he has to wear a vest everywhere, yeah oh gotcha because otherwise people will think, oh, he's just and he, they won't let him in places oh gotcha, yeah, he's got. He does have a tag, though, as well, if I if I happen to not put one on him, he has a tag that says I'm a service dog.

Speaker 1:

So what was it like life before Bailey? What was that like for you?

Speaker 3:

Um, just kind of, actually it was fun. We did fun stuff. We still did a lot of things, disneyland a lot, and but it was just not. It was actually like boring. I didn't realize how different it would be with him.

Speaker 1:

What's the one thing that you think like having Bailey? Like you talked a little bit ago about how Bailey's helped you, what's the main thing that you think Bailey has done?

Speaker 3:

Confidence Like, and I had a lot of anxiety going out sometimes with crowds. He's helped so much with that. I'm not shy too much anymore. I'm not, you know, I just love showing him off. I just do tricks immediately. As soon as I feel uncomfortable I'm like, hey, he does a trick.

Speaker 1:

He does a trick Like here's a trick, and then you just connect to people around you.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, and then people come up to us. Oh we met so many nice Aussie people and just everything like show competitions. You just meet the nicest people. Just more fun. And I would get a lot of anxiety going out in public.

Speaker 1:

And he makes it all just so much better. He's looking around like yeah, Just so fun, just much more fun.

Speaker 3:

It just elevates everything.

Speaker 1:

Right.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

And so what was like going, like doing the social media stuff and before all of that, like what inspired you to do all the crafting? And all that stuff, like what do you, what kind of got you to that point?

Speaker 3:

my mom does a lot of hand embroidery so she got me into that at first and I've always loved beading when I was little because I was always in the hospital and I always just want, you know, always loved beading when I was little because I was always in the hospital and I always just saw beading and I was like oh, but I never got into it. Like really intricate stuff. I didn't know how to do that Because YouTube wasn't out yet.

Speaker 1:

Oh.

Speaker 3:

So just recently, after a surgery, I was stuck in bed and so I'm like I want to learn how to really do, know, do this. So I just started looking up youtube and you know there was a lot of stuff I could learn on any books. I don't understand, I have a hard time reading books and it's hard for me to visually see unless I see someone actually doing it.

Speaker 3:

Then it that's what helped me yeah watching someone actually put something together, and so I copied it and, yeah, that's what got me into it you just got better every time yeah, yeah and so do you sell your, do you sell your wares yeah, you have a lot.

Speaker 2:

I'd like to what kind of?

Speaker 3:

stuff, do you like? I do a lot of earrings. Uh, a lot of rings, I do rings. Necklaces are still learning how to do that, but a lot of earrings, oh cool, yeah, different. They're very intricate, like very hand-woven kind of stuff, oh my gosh.

Speaker 2:

I would love to see some of the creation.

Speaker 3:

Oh, wow, yeah, I made a few, oh cool.

Speaker 1:

Last week, you wore the ring that you made and posted on social media, though.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, oh, that's cool. Yeah, they're fun. They're so much fun to make. I just love it.

Speaker 1:

So going back. So this podcast is a little bit informative for people about things like experiences, right yeah, and I always like to tell people that you have to be able to understand who people are, to understand how to help people, right yeah, and so, like going back, you told me before how much time you spent in the hospital growing up.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

How much time did you spend?

Speaker 3:

I don't know. I started having surgery right when I was born. My spine was born outside my back, so they rushed me in. That was my first surgery. They put my spine back in and then, ever since then, I've had 21 surgeries.

Speaker 1:

And.

Speaker 3:

I've been in hospitals for I think the longest I was in for, like almost a month. I was in for thanksgiving and I I was in for quite a long time this last thanksgiving.

Speaker 1:

No, no, no, it was.

Speaker 3:

It was when I was younger that was the longest I've been in the hospital.

Speaker 1:

Oh okay, yeah just over the whole holiday season yeah, and.

Speaker 3:

But bedridden for about four months at a time.

Speaker 1:

Wow.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, or at least a month. I can't remember? Oh, no it felt like it was a long time. Actually, no, the longest I was in bed for it was a year. I had a scoliosis surgery and they put rods and screws on my back.

Speaker 1:

And fused your spine yeah.

Speaker 3:

And I could not get. I was in so much pain, so I was stuck in bed for a whole year.

Speaker 1:

And then, before that, you were ambulatory right, you were walking.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I had crutches, a walker. Yeah, I used to climb up on counters. I used to crawl everywhere. I used to do tons of stuff. It's crazy. So my mom would be like, can you not kill yourself? It was funny.

Speaker 1:

And then, what was the cutoff point? Was it when you had?

Speaker 3:

the back surgery or yeah, I was they. I think they pinched a nerve and ever since then I could not. My legs just were weak and I couldn't walk. I I tried tons of physical therapies, tried everything. My legs just would not like. I couldn't stand up on my own like I used to right was that like the scoliosis surgery or yeah, yeah, the rods and screws. I think they pinched a nerve and it just messed me out. I just, and I've been trying, but yeah nothing's worked.

Speaker 2:

How long ago is how long?

Speaker 3:

ago uh 2001 oh yeah, and it was right. When 9-11 happened, like right after that is when I started getting up. Like two months after that is when I started finally getting out of bed. It was a year later, yeah.

Speaker 1:

So what was tell me about, like, the physical therapy experience, right, Like, yeah, you know we talk about healthcare in general, but like, what was that, like going through that at such a young age though?

Speaker 3:

Um, I had a physical therapist like a child physical therapist for five or six years and then I think I don't remember how much, but she was fine she. You know we did learn stuff and then as I had surgeries, I had a lot of them come to like the hospital and home and stuff and they they try to teach me you know just regular, you know stretch, band stuff and try to get me stronger and that was pretty much it, but it wasn't like anything really helpful. You know, it's where you got to do this.

Speaker 1:

You got to get up, yeah if you were to, like, go back and and say, like okay, because you know you're when you're a kid, I don't feel like you have. You feel like you have a voice to say like do this, don't do this. I like that don't do that like, yeah, what would you? What would you want to tell those clinicians if you had the ability to tell them again, like what would be the one thing you would tell them that you'd want?

Speaker 3:

help me. They just help me figure out how to, you know, get back on my, get back up again, you know. Yeah, instead of just trying to get stronger with my, just my arms, like, help me, you know, figure out my leg, you issues, or why my legs are weak, as they are, something you know a way to get back up even more.

Speaker 1:

But did they like tell you and inform you a little bit more about like hey, this is why we're not doing this or nothing like that?

Speaker 3:

No, they just kind of, here's some stretch bands, stretch.

Speaker 1:

That's it.

Speaker 3:

Yep, and they stretched my legs out. You know they, that's it. Yep, they stretch my legs out. You know they dated themselves.

Speaker 2:

But they didn't say oh, you gotta work on this or that what do you think out of your experience, though kind of opposite now, as like, what do you think was the most valuable um experience? So you see, you said there was a lot where they didn't really do much. Um, was there ever a turning point to that? Was there ever um an experience where it was a lot where they didn't really do much? Was there ever a turning point to that? Was there ever an experience where it was a little bit different than what you were used to? During that whole time with physical therapy?

Speaker 3:

Not really. I had the same physical therapist all the time Just kind of did the same stuff. It was like, oh, here, you just stretch this out, nothing to really help me. I'm going to help you get up and I'm going to help you just stretch this out, or nothing to really help me, like I'm gonna help you get up and how I'm gonna help you do this. You know, yeah, nothing, because I tried to look around. My mom tried yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1:

So if you were to, if you were to like tell, like advise a parent I think one of the hardest things sometimes is like parents when they're just, you know, going through this for the very first time. Like, what would you advise a parent who has a child that needs care Right, bailey, and what would you advise them to do, like, after you know, growing up with your experiences? Like what, what would you think the number one thing you would advise?

Speaker 3:

them up. Things don't settle for just a normal doctor or a normal physical therapist. Just keep looking, try to go to like you know, like abilities, expo yeah, do things like that. Like I wish my mom knew about that stuff. She didn't know anything yeah we did some stuff, but she didn't know a whole lot about any of that. We didn didn't have any help.

Speaker 1:

Right.

Speaker 3:

And she's a single mom, so she was trying to do the best she could, right? So she just did whatever they told her to do, and so, yeah, just look around.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Just don't settle. Yeah, just try to find the best that you can for your child, you know, to help them.

Speaker 1:

Oh, absolutely.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

What you know, you. You get out of the hospital and then like what, what? What was life like like after that?

Speaker 3:

Just trying to recover again.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

You try to figure out how to do things again.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, Did it? Did it take away that much of your independence, Like getting back on, like from what you did before to did you like?

Speaker 3:

certain ones.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Certain ones did, like the surgeries I had when I was younger didn't because I just there were a lot of like corrective, little corrective stuff, right, but like the pressure ones I had, it was hard to sit because it hurt so bad. So I had to learn how to sit. You know, I just kept having to practice sitting, just so it wouldn't hurt anymore, and then yeah that, and then at the back one, or just learning how to just move move Kyra's blowing up here.

Speaker 1:

I'm just saying we're live, and I think all over the world they're texting Kyra's a celebrity physical therapist.

Speaker 2:

I have to say hello to my dad Because, yeah, hi, mom, yes.

Speaker 1:

Make sure you say hi to Mom.

Speaker 2:

My dad, my cousin cindy hello. Last time they were a little um I told her I wouldn't say upset, but they were like how about me?

Speaker 1:

yeah, yeah, so hello the whole family now is yes, I said hello to everyone I just want to point out on the record that I told her okay, everybody.

Speaker 2:

You should have shouted everybody out, okay.

Speaker 1:

Slightly rude. I'm just saying, okay, wow, we'll have that discussion later folks. Okay, katie, have you shouted out everybody?

Speaker 2:

Just my mom.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to shout out Kemp. Okay, I'm going to shout out Kemp, say over there, what, what, yes. What what yes?

Speaker 3:

Want to say hi to your mama.

Speaker 2:

Hi mama.

Speaker 1:

So we talked a little bit after. We had a conversation last time about high school. High school is oh, yeah, High school, yeah, high school.

Speaker 3:

What was that like? Well, I homeschooled.

Speaker 1:

Homeschooled Okay.

Speaker 3:

Until freshman year, and then I begged my mom that I wanted to go to act, to see what high school was like okay, look high school, oh my and uh, yeah, kind of regretted that.

Speaker 3:

Whoa, why is that? What was like? Because you know, being homeschooled, I just had like my, me and my best friend did it together, okay, and it was just us and my brothers, and that was it. We went on field trips, we did you know stuff together field trips and you know fun stuff. We got done early, got to go outside all the time and then and then public schools Lots of kids Fighting oh my gosh. Lots of kids fighting, oh my god. A lot of fighting, a lot of bullying a lot of yeah.

Speaker 1:

You were beating people up so they were in fear of you. She was the one yeah she was the one listen, I gotta, I gotta ask a clarifying question right now because I don't know. You said a lot of fighting. I don't know, beat up I was the angel.

Speaker 2:

I feel like katie was a popular name.

Speaker 3:

No, no, no, a lot of other ones, just other ones around me, just everybody.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, it's like gladiator school.

Speaker 3:

I had two guys fighting one time in class and they both fell on my desk and I was like I called my mom during like lunch. I'm like get me out of here.

Speaker 1:

Wait, this is in the first year of going to high school.

Speaker 3:

I think it was first or second. I stayed till the end.

Speaker 1:

You graduated. Good for you. Yeah, you fought it out.

Speaker 3:

I ended up having to have surgery towards the senior year and I had to have a guy from. I don't know what you call. Call him like a teacher or some sort of from that school.

Speaker 3:

Come over and teach me, or you know you finish my stuff yeah yeah, and then I got to go walk and do it okay, yeah, wow yeah yeah, it was a lot of bathroom lighting. Oh, no, bathroom lighting a lot of. Yeah. Well, I did meet a few friends. I met some good friends there, some couple of good ones that you know. We're still kind of in touch okay what's his treat?

Speaker 3:

so bad um and. But we were wheeling. She was one of my one friend was pushing me throughout school like really fast, and we accidentally bumped into this really tall, like jockey kind of guy and he's like what do you do? Like got really mad at me, oh no and then she stuck up for me, thankfully. It was scary wow a lot of bathroom, hiding and being alone oh no that was interesting but did you, did you learn anything from that experience?

Speaker 3:

Just it got me more or got me less shy, actually Really Out of my shell.

Speaker 2:

Yeah To be more open, I guess Did you join any clubs and stuff like that I tried.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, Actually I did do photography. Oh cool, that was fun.

Speaker 1:

I wanted to do floral, but they just got rid of it, right as I want to do it like arranging, like doing arrangements and, yeah, I really wanted to do that and they got rid of it and then they made me do ffa and I was like what's?

Speaker 3:

ffa the or was it? Is it called that?

Speaker 1:

maybe it's not like what do you do? Like the livestock stuff oh, oh, like 4F, 4d, something like that.

Speaker 3:

We never had that.

Speaker 1:

Horticulture.

Speaker 3:

They made us do that and I hated it. They wanted us. I don't know what happened. I think I dropped out of that class. They wanted us to get an animal like a pig or something raise it up, name it and then kill it.

Speaker 2:

And I'm like no, thank you that sounds like bacon. No, that sounds like bacon, or a chicken, at least no, thank you.

Speaker 1:

So now you're working with animals, you're learning. Yeah, you're learning it and getting better at it. So was Bailey, like the start of this whole experience.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I got him and then I wanted a really smart dog who did tricks and I realized right away he was smart, like he got stuff so fast, and so I'm like, okay, so I want to teach him how to play dead. That was the first trick he ever learned oh really so I, you know, I watched on youtube. I was like okay, how do I do this? And I did it. He got it in three tries.

Speaker 1:

No joke.

Speaker 3:

Three times. That was it, and he got it. He's like okay. So I'm like what else can I do?

Speaker 1:

So that's when you started going to the whole organization.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, and then I went from there, and then we did the selfie.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, want to see your purse. See your purse Up, pause it. See your purse. Oh my goodness.

Speaker 1:

I love that Good boy. Good boy, I think that's awesome.

Speaker 3:

But now this has thrown into a thing, because now you're yeah he's got his own.

Speaker 1:

He's got his own instagram page and I was gonna take him I wanted him to travel with me too yeah so now he's got patches, I have to make something for him, but I got patches everywhere.

Speaker 3:

I go now with him travel patches yeah we go to national parks that's awesome.

Speaker 1:

But but now bailey is has gotten so big that he now has an agent yeah, what yeah? Bailey has an agent might be on tv. Oh my goodness and that is why kyra is the celebrity pt. Thank you so much. She only hangs out with celebrities. That's what I'm saying. Yeah, Bailey is the biggest one.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, what Bailey is the biggest celebrity. You want to get an ear podograph?

Speaker 1:

Yes, ear podograph.

Speaker 3:

The first time he had to do that, he became. He's a bark ranger in Hot Springs, arkansas.

Speaker 1:

No joke.

Speaker 3:

He's got his little paw print on a little certificate.

Speaker 2:

What no joke, he's got his little paw print on a little certificate.

Speaker 3:

What? Yep? He's a park ranger. Get the look up.

Speaker 1:

Bailey also has a sister Yep, and Addie Yep, and Addie has just had puppies.

Speaker 3:

She's just had six puppies.

Speaker 1:

So she's indisposed at the moment. Two are available. Two are still available, so you want to check out. Where should they?

Speaker 3:

check it out. Blessed Hope Aussies.

Speaker 1:

Say that again.

Speaker 3:

Blessed Hope Aussies.

Speaker 1:

Blessed Help Aussies. Blessed Hope Aussies. Blessed Hope Aussies. I messed that up, but Blessed Hope Aussies, and there are two still available. You sent me the pictures. I'm going to try and.

Speaker 3:

Well, I don't know if I sent you oh the pictures.

Speaker 1:

I'm gonna try and well I don't know if I sent you oh one, the one I showed you got sold.

Speaker 3:

The one on the.

Speaker 1:

Oh, okay on the other commercial vessel, oh, the one that was in the commercial yeah, got sold yeah so so so addies no, they're not adding that one's not adding, but I I did show you them, though I think yeah, you did

Speaker 3:

yeah so, but, uh wow yeah, a little girl and a little boy. Just a little boy looks just like him. Wow, not sold yet.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, Not sold yet. And Bailey's smart right.

Speaker 2:

Convince me to get one.

Speaker 1:

I think. Listen, katie said she was going to bring one. I want to bring one.

Speaker 2:

Oh my gosh.

Speaker 1:

And try and convince you.

Speaker 2:

My mom would probably get mad at me if I brought one home.

Speaker 1:

I think, Sharon, I am not responsible for that.

Speaker 2:

Oh my goodness, Mom, I'm sorry.

Speaker 1:

What are you planning for in the?

Speaker 3:

future what does?

Speaker 1:

the future hold for Katie. More adventures, more adventures With Bailey More adventures with Bailey.

Speaker 3:

We're working on more titles. Work titles Like titles for him. There's so many things to do in AKC to earn titles.

Speaker 1:

Oh titles for him.

Speaker 3:

There's so many things to do in akc to earn titles.

Speaker 1:

Okay, oh like, so wait a second like, instead of champion, he's a triple champion already. Wait, say that again because I just want that on the record, because again, tyra's a celebrity. She, she doesn't hang out with like regular folk yeah so, uh, bailey is a what triple champion triple, triple champion. What?

Speaker 3:

does that mean it's called show Confirmation. Thank you. Confirmation, confirmation yeah, so he's, so he's a triple champion, because that means he does. He did three different, three different ones, three different shows, like AKC, asca and there's one called the UKC.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 3:

He's a champion in all three of those.

Speaker 2:

Is that like the ones you see on TV and the dogs are running?

Speaker 3:

That's AKC. I've always wanted to do that. Now that he's neutered, no, can't do that. Maybe his sister yeah.

Speaker 1:

So Addie is still a prospect.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, she got her first points.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 3:

We'll see what happens after her puppies. She's doing good. She really looks good out there.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

And then so, as far as Bailey is concerned, in terms of competing, what's in the future for Bailey in competitions?

Speaker 3:

We're going to do agility.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 3:

There's a thing called fast cat, where he runs and chases like this little cat. It's like a little. I know you think so, but it's not a cat it's not a napkin looking thing like a oh, and it just goes on a pole and it it, uh, it's like a lure and they have to chase it down this long pathway. You have to call them oh and they have to chase it. Yeah, so how do you great like, how do you score points?

Speaker 1:

you just they I think they have to chase it down this long pathway.

Speaker 3:

You have to call them oh, and they have to chase it yeah. So how do you score points, do you just? I think it's how fast they are or something, oh, how fast they get the yeah and the timing. They get oh, right, and a certain timing, and then he gets points up to his. It's called a B-cat. So then that's a another title. We're working on it. His grandfather has titles like insane amount, so we're trying to catch up so Bailey's comes from a family of dog celebrities right yeah only celebrities.

Speaker 1:

Oh my gosh, his mom does agility so, and then? What about you? What do you have in store? I know traveling and traveling.

Speaker 3:

I love travel. My mom wants me back to arkansas oh, so you're actually, we're gonna do a road trip okay road trip. I want to see you know russi. Six sites um different sites around. I love arizona. I want to go to the grand canyon. Take him to the grand canyon okay have you been before? Oh, yeah, a couple times.

Speaker 1:

But not with Bailey, though.

Speaker 3:

I would love to. We went during the end of 2020.

Speaker 1:

Which was nice.

Speaker 2:

That was like during the pandemic.

Speaker 3:

It was nice, except there was a fire here. The canyon was a little smoky. It was really nice, it was really relaxing.

Speaker 2:

What's the favorite place you've gone to just traveling?

Speaker 3:

With and without Bailey Tennessee, I think I went to Nashville and Memphis and I'm a huge Elvis fan, so I went to Graceland for my 30th birthday. Oh, cool, yeah, that was the highlight. Was Bailey with you when you? Oh, no, no, he wasn't born yet.

Speaker 2:

Oh, this a highlight. One of one of the best was bailey with you and you. Oh no, no, he wasn't born yet. Oh, this is four years ago, yeah, yeah, that was one of the best ones.

Speaker 3:

We went to the grand old opry oh wow, and you watched like the one of the shows. No, I wish we wanted to, but we did the backstage tour, oh cool. Yeah, that was fun?

Speaker 2:

yeah, if you're, especially if you're a fan of like country music, right yeah, yeah, I'm a big fan. I never was, and until a few years ago now so who's your like go-to artist that you listen to on?

Speaker 3:

I love jason aldean okay luke combs.

Speaker 2:

Of course, yeah, of course. I'm a big carrie underwood fan yeah, I like her too.

Speaker 3:

I love carrie and lauren alaina. I love, love her.

Speaker 1:

But you've gone to a few concerts as well.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I went to Luke Bryan, luke Combs, lauren Alaina, jason Aldino. He jumped on the speaker and grabbed my hand. Oh what? Yeah, luke Combs gave me his hat.

Speaker 2:

Oh, what yeah?

Speaker 1:

Katie Down plays this stuff.

Speaker 2:

I know and she's like I'm like all I could afford is like row 300s of Taylor Swift concerts.

Speaker 3:

I can't do it anymore. I can't. It's so expensive right now. We wanted to go see Jeff Dunham and there's no way. The $300 ticket. Wow, I'm like no, it's sad.

Speaker 2:

We like sitting up front too. Not the nosebleed? No well, I'm a nosebleeder over here for the Taylor Swift concert.

Speaker 1:

And you know that was a million dollars. It was like going to the Super Bowl.

Speaker 2:

It was $200 for 300s of SoFi Stadium. Yeah, I didn't even try.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, what is it so? Wait, you've gone to a few other concerts too.

Speaker 3:

You remember Hilary Duff back in the day. She was one of my first concerts I've ever been to.

Speaker 2:

Hilary Duff Yep.

Speaker 3:

Hilary Duff. Matt do you know?

Speaker 2:

Hilary Duff. I don't think Matt knows Hilary. He's just nodding his head. I don't think he knows Hilary Duff what?

Speaker 1:

are you talking about? I was totally.

Speaker 2:

I don't I don't spark you as a disney kid here. What?

Speaker 1:

are you talking about I?

Speaker 3:

yeah, oh I saw raven simone. Oh my gosh, this is like way back in the day you haven't been anything my disney generation what?

Speaker 1:

so? What have you been to a disney? Do you know who hillary Duff is?

Speaker 2:

Yes, of course I do I was like I love yes, I loved that's so Raven, oh yeah, even Stevens, but that's so. Raven was my favorite. But what else? What were the famous ones they had, like Phil of the Future? I didn't really watch Phil of the Future.

Speaker 3:

I didn't either.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I watched a little bit, yeah, and see, I loved it. Lizzie McGuire was another good one yeah. Yeah, yeah, those two that's a Raven, lizzie McGuire, even Stevens yeah, those were the good ones and that's just like okay, whatever that is. My kids watched that growing up.

Speaker 1:

Yes, they did. My kids watched all that stuff. I remember watching those shows with them. My kids watch all that stuff. I remember watching those shows with them.

Speaker 2:

They're like I want to watch this show and I'm like, oh my God, I went to a Jonas Brothers concert.

Speaker 1:

That's kind of like.

Speaker 2:

Disney related. Yeah, they were on Disney. Channel they had a show. It was called Jonas.

Speaker 1:

But I didn't watch it.

Speaker 2:

I watched it yeah.

Speaker 1:

Oh, they weren't that good, it wasn't really a popular show.

Speaker 2:

Back then it was more like yeah, because I wanted just the extra shows that are there.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I stopped watching disney channel a long time ago. Yeah, me too. Yeah, you know, I gotta tell you like, like when I would talk to my friends who had kids at that time and they were, like I don't like my kids watching that channel because all the kids on the channel are super smart and the parents are dumb, like I know what in the world kind of channel encourages children?

Speaker 3:

watched it.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, now be like watch it smarter than their dumb parents, like what's up with that? That's so raven, that's a raven. Was like that. Yeah, geez, yeah, no. I I but I, I sat and watched those shows and I'm thinking to myself like that's why all these kids are so arrogant now, like seriously?

Speaker 2:

No, but actually speaking, do you guys know? Like Bridget Mendler, yes, I do no, so okay, she's 31. I do have to speak of she's 31, and she had like a super successful career on Disney. Yeah, you know, she was the main character on one of the shows and she did singing and stuff. She you the shows and, um, she did singing and stuff. She, you know, walked away from that, got a degree from harvard law. Wow, got a degree from mit.

Speaker 2:

now is like the, the ceo of like some aerospace I heard about that and I'm like, yeah, that's at 31, at 31. I was like what?

Speaker 1:

something tells me she doesn't have student loan debt, though.

Speaker 2:

Well, that's why she went to Disney and did all those.

Speaker 3:

She was a singer. She did an album. Of course they all do.

Speaker 1:

She did an album.

Speaker 2:

I think she did a few movies.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, the Lemonade.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, lemonade Singing, that's a good movie.

Speaker 1:

How does the song go? I'm going to hold you to it.

Speaker 2:

I was a Cheetah Girls kind of girl. Me too, I love Cheetah Girls.

Speaker 3:

Come on, oh my gosh, I love Cheetah Girls.

Speaker 2:

I remember hearing that song like a thousand times.

Speaker 1:

Wonderful. What concerts did you go to? What concerts, wow, that we know Well. Well, let me inform you. Thank you very much. Okay, so, of people that you may know, let's see, I went to when Lauryn Hill went solo. I went to her concert with Eric Hamadou and Wyclef Jean. And let's see, and you know all these people right, wyclef, sure, sure, sure, wow, look at that.

Speaker 2:

We can look it up.

Speaker 1:

You might need to Google it.

Speaker 2:

Maybe we know them by face.

Speaker 1:

Oh no, who else was there? Goodness gracious.

Speaker 2:

Lauren Hill sounds familiar.

Speaker 1:

Oh, wow, listen. Do you know, sean Paul?

Speaker 2:

Sounds familiar.

Speaker 1:

Oh my gosh. I'm going to look it up? No, don't Google it. I've got to look it up. No, don't Google it. I got to look it up. No, don't Google it. Dj.

Speaker 2:

Khaled. Oh, dj Khaled, there you go. You know, dj Khaled, Okay.

Speaker 1:

Gosh man, this is rough bro yeah.

Speaker 3:

Okay, he listens to them all the time.

Speaker 1:

In Miami. I used to be in the same club with DJ Khaled.

Speaker 2:

Oh, I loved Usher Usher oh wait a second.

Speaker 1:

You met Usher.

Speaker 3:

Sort of Sort of. Yeah, Hugged him there you go. And then it was awkward.

Speaker 1:

Okay, tell us the Usher story. You gotta tell us the story when you.

Speaker 3:

Was he super sweaty like he was during the story? No, no, no, he just came out. It was just when he started to sit. We went to the voice it was being the audience, okay and he came out and I was screaming. I don't even know what got me because I'm so shy, so I don't know what made me do that. I screamed his name and he happened to hear me out of the screaming of everybody else and he ran over and hugged me. He goes how are you doing? And I couldn't hear what else he said. So I'm like okay. I was like, oh, wow.

Speaker 3:

So they walked away and then later on we had to go to the bathroom. So we left and they're so strict with that because you know they're filming and they can't stop even if you have to go, and he had to go. So we went at the same time and then we got back at the same time. Usher's right here, I'm sitting here and we're waiting to go back to our seats and I'm just looking at him like hi, and he's like trying not to look at me. I'm like starstruck. I'm like I'm not sure.

Speaker 2:

Do you have a picture with?

Speaker 3:

him. No, I'm sure they do Somewhere.

Speaker 2:

I'm sure they filmed it.

Speaker 3:

Oh my gosh, I was dying Because they don't want to have your phone. Oh, it killed me. So, do you like leave it? They make you turn it off and leave it in the car. Then they did. I think you can take it with you, but you cannot take it out. Oh yeah, it killed me.

Speaker 1:

It absolutely killed me. But who else have you met? You've met a few Celebrities.

Speaker 3:

We went to. We saw Wahlbergers just opened on Sunset. It was three years ago and we're like, oh, I want to go eat there Because we love Mark Wahlberg and Donnie Wahlberg and all and a big New Kids fan.

Speaker 1:

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. Do you know that song? The Right Stuff, we got the right stuff. You don't know that song. I do not know that song. Goodness gracious, oh, they're good. At least you know somebody else at the table knows that song.

Speaker 2:

Yes, I know a lot of their songs, but I feel like me and Katie have more in common. It's a millennial thing, like NSYNC.

Speaker 3:

Yes, backstreet Boys, matt's like who which I, which I've always wanted to see, you mean like always wanted to see the backstreet boys that's rough. Come on, boys to men hello, yeah, oh, we love them see, do you know boys to men?

Speaker 1:

yes, there you go. I've never seen them in concert, but it's okay. I think one of them is retired now, so it's all good, um, so yeah, no, I went.

Speaker 3:

So we were going to walbergers and it was just, they just barely opened and we ran to some some guys outside. We were wondering like why is it so dead like the outside? Because your seat's outside, she's like where's everybody at? Like, are we early? I mean, it was kind of like noonish and then some guys stopped us. We went in there, like you have like, if you want to go here, you have to sign waivers. And we're like okay, and then they, and then we're like why, like, we're filming the show right like walberg's the show right now? I'm like huh, and they wouldn't tell us who was in there. So I'm like okay. So I'm like heck, yeah, so I signed it.

Speaker 3:

So he signed it and they let us in. Wait. Uh, they let us in, and I look to my left and there's donnie walberg standing there. I'm like, oh, wow, so we're just trying to play it, cool, and of course, I'm not in it. I'm, we're in the show, but I there's a, what's it called? When you right, when you walk in, there's like a wooden oh, like a divider yeah, and you can't see the cameras are pointing towards the door.

Speaker 3:

I'm oh my god, right there anyway. So, yeah, we were eating and then they stopped when they were done filming. They did like a little filming. They're almost done when we got there. But we got our burgers. We were eating. I had a mouthful of burger and here and I see donnie, like saying hi to everyone eating there's a few people in there eating. Yeah, he was just going around to everyone saying hi and I'm like I'm gonna eat like as soon as he came up he's like hi, how are you guys?

Speaker 3:

they're like oh, oh, in that day, uh, his wife jenny was signing, uh, she had some wine coolers or something coming out and we were going to go to that event, like we were originally going to go to that yeah, have her sign, like a wine cooler or something to meet her yeah and I didn't know he was gonna be there.

Speaker 3:

But he ended up being at wall burgers that day and I told him like, oh, we're gonna go see your wife in a little bit and he was like, oh, yeah, I'll be there. So yeah, we say, hung out. We said, hi, of course, I got a picture, oh wow. And then he left and then when we got there he was there. So we got to hang out with him even longer and her. I have a video I posted on how many people saw it I think, I think I did see it, it was like the three year anniversary like of the four

Speaker 1:

years or something like that, yeah of the time that you met I tagged him like we need to see. We need to hang out again, donnie, if you see donnie walberg and walbergers is not a sponsor of this podcast but, but it can be. That's correct. And does Jenny still have her wine cooler?

Speaker 3:

I don't think so. I haven't seen it. It was so good though.

Speaker 1:

Jenny, if you have the wine cooler, you're not a sponsor of this podcast.

Speaker 2:

But you can be there, you go.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, they were really good. She was so nice. You saw the video.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, she was so nice. You saw the video. Yeah, yeah, she was such a hard thing to break into, though, the drink food.

Speaker 3:

Well, it's for like it was for like a healthier it was like oh, it's a healthy wine cooler yeah, it was like, for I forgot she called like skinny girls, kind of stuff oh, right, right like you know, for low calories though oh yeah, I mean who drinks low calorie liquor like it was good. It tasted like lemonade.

Speaker 1:

Really.

Speaker 3:

It was like 5% alcohol.

Speaker 1:

People who, I know that, really drink liquor. They just want to like Beer, oh yeah they're setting up outside.

Speaker 3:

Did you see that I was like Matt's setting up something?

Speaker 1:

No, like. Next door there's a liquor store. Right Like the liquor store does liquor sampling on the sidewalk during the random parts of the day, so I got patients walking out of the door trying to like give out tequila shots. I think that's what they're giving.

Speaker 3:

Are you serious? Yeah, the tequila shots, tequila shots.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so, like on the final one, just random tequila shots. So I'm like all right, whatever, are you serious? Yeah, yeah, yeah, so did you take a tequila shot no.

Speaker 2:

They got to card you though I was walking and then she looked at me, gave the biggest smile and was like hi. And then I just like turned.

Speaker 1:

I was just like did you? I said hi and then I just went inside. So Kyra is genuinely an introvert. Did you? Did you take a shot?

Speaker 3:

No, I didn't even know. I thought they were just selling alcohol.

Speaker 1:

No, they're giving out samples. They're just saying to me they're giving out tequila samples out there.

Speaker 3:

Can't have a shot, honey. I'm so sorry.

Speaker 1:

Can't have.

Speaker 3:

It's 5 o'clock somewhere I will say, though, I did get a cocktail recently, and they carded me. I was like, yes, I will gladly show you that.

Speaker 1:

Come on, Lee, Okay. So I gotta ask. I gotta ask what did you end up drinking? What was your cocktail?

Speaker 3:

I think it was a limosa. It was like a tiki bar. So it was like a or tiki, not bar, it was like a restaurant.

Speaker 1:

It was tiki bar, so it was like a tiki, not bar. It was like a restaurant okay, they serve coffee. It was like a. I think it had malibu in it.

Speaker 1:

Okay, I cannot do no, no, no, I'm a super lightweight orange juice and I'm like I'm good, yeah, um, so I have a question to ask you as we wrap up the podcast. So big questions are if you were to give somebody or if you were to give yourself advice, right, right, you go back to, let's say, high school, that first day that you went to the high school, yeah, and you were able to kind of like zoom in and say, whisper in katie's ear, what advice would you give katie on that first day of high school?

Speaker 3:

confident, be very confident. I was so shy, it was insane. I was like in my shell. I couldn't look anybody in the eye. It was horrible. So confidence, and don't wear a high school musical t-shirt there's nothing wrong.

Speaker 2:

Remember we did a whole dance so it was like oh, you like High School Musical and I went on the whole. We're all in this together dance. I love this. I was in that play.

Speaker 3:

I loved it.

Speaker 1:

Oh, were you really.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, I was in High School Musical.

Speaker 1:

Way.

Speaker 3:

I did theater. Oh, see way I love, I did theater.

Speaker 1:

Yeah see, I loved it. Katie, you're holding out the best play I've ever done, and annie, did you really?

Speaker 3:

look at you. You're holding out on us. I'm homeless.

Speaker 1:

That was a one of the one of the homeless kids with annie. Uh, it's a hard, not life for us.

Speaker 3:

No, I was like the outside of that oh, you were outside of that. Tomorrow. Oh, I auditioned to play Annie because I have, of course, the red hair and they wanted me to sing and I was just like Wait, you didn't sing. I did, no, I did, but it was. Oh, now we have to do a sample. It was bad.

Speaker 1:

What do you mean?

Speaker 2:

She's got to sing. Now she's to sing, but it was no, you don't want to relive the song.

Speaker 1:

We'll back you up no, thank you, I can't sing, but I will sing with you. Listen, we do karaoke here all the time. I gotta hook up to any song it's not.

Speaker 3:

What song were you saying? I might need to go outside and take a couple.

Speaker 1:

Let's go free samples no not now what so, just out of curiosity, what song was it that you sang?

Speaker 3:

sun will come out tomorrow.

Speaker 1:

Oh see sun will come out tomorrow bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow there you go there'll be sun. Oh, katie joined in. She nailed it. Oh, bag of introverts. Yeah so, oh, katie joined in. She nailed it, oh, bag of introverts. So are there any parting shots? See, now you're telling us about the theater.

Speaker 2:

I know now. I want to learn more. I know Next time.

Speaker 1:

So tell me any last words, words of encouragement or anything that you would like to say to the physical therapist that isn't even born yet to say, hey, this is what me, as Katie, would like to see in my physical therapist.

Speaker 3:

Everything you're doing actually.

Speaker 1:

Well, it's not about me though. Well, it's not about me though.

Speaker 3:

Just look into the person and really see what they need help with and help them achieve that.

Speaker 1:

I thought that was good too, yeah.

Speaker 3:

Just look up to see what they really need help with. If they need help walking, see what you can do to modify something for them. Yeah, I mean to help get you know, get stronger and whatever they need, just not not give them a stretch band, say here we go.

Speaker 2:

Be more personal.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, personal yeah.

Speaker 1:

Makes sense to me.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Well, thank you again for joining us at the ask.

Speaker 3:
