As Mother's Day envelops us in its warm embrace, we pause to celebrate the matriarchs who've shaped us into the individuals we are today. While Dr. Kyra couldn't join us due to her commendable achievement of becoming a doctor—hats off to you, Dr. Kyra!—I take this solo moment to reflect on the powerful influence of my own mother, especially in steering me towards a career I once deemed dull, but now recognize as my calling.

In this episode, I weave tales of my mother's unwavering dedication and the sacrifices that became the bedrock of my journey—from tagging along on her home health visits to my zenith at Rancho Los Amigos. I share anecdotes of her relentless support, even when after my stents in principal's office , demonstrating the unique and boundless encouragement only a mother can provide. Celebrate the unsung heroines of our lives with us and let's honor the indelible imprints they've left on our hearts. To all the extraordinary mothers tuning in—Happy Mother's Day!

Speaker 1:

Hey everybody, welcome to this very special edition of the Ask where we are talking about Mother's Day, that's right. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to this very special edition where we get an opportunity to celebrate all the very special women in your lives. And this is a very special edition. It is kind of like me, kind of monologuing, which I apologize for, especially if it sounds boring to you. But hang in there, hang tight. I got a very special message and a very special shout out to a very special mom that's out there today. So, anyways, that's what we have in store for you today. Kyra's not with us. She's out there getting her doctorate bestowed upon her. Congratulations to the world-famous physical therapist, ati Kaira. That's right. Now we're going to call her Dr Kaira. If you think we should call her something else other than Dr Kaira, you're sadly mistaken.

Speaker 1:

Welcome again to the Ask with Dr Hanson VT, with Kaira I'm just doing it for her because she's not here with us today on this very special Mother's Day edition, let's go, all right. So we're in the season again to celebrate Mother's Day. So to all the mothers out there, the proxies, the grandmothers, the aunties, the friends of friends who took on someone else's kids and raised them by proxy, for whatever reason. Even if you're just a mentor or a mother figure to someone in your life, or that mother figure in someone's life, happy Mother's Day to you. Now, you see, the thing is is that there's something special about the loving warmth of a mother that can make the hardest heart break down and cry, you know, and this is why Mother's Day is probably one of the most highest rated holidays worldwide, even though every country separates at a separate time. So while I celebrate my wife for being such an amazing mother to our children, and my sister for mother to her children, my aunts, my cousins and the rest of my family, today I'm going to celebrate my mom, because much of the reason why I'm here today, even on this podcast, is because of my mom.

Speaker 1:

She set that foundation for me a very long time ago and I always remember that when I was a child, my sister and I, when we were out of school, we used to ride with my mom while she went out to go and do home health. So she used to do home health visits as a physical therapist, and so what's so funny is that I remember looking out the car out the window of the car like hey, thinking what a boring job being a physical therapist would be, and all I wanted to do was something that was more exciting and more amazing. And all these years later, I find myself in a position that I could never imagine doing anything else other than being a physical therapist. Now I maybe still want to be a marine biologist but that's another story. And I remember that my mother's proudest moment wasn't really when I got into PT school or even when I graduated from PT school. It was when I got my first job out of PT school at Rancho Los Amigos. And even that moment where she came to visit me here in California and she got to walk the halls of Rancho Los Amigos and I got to show her places inside the hospital and meet my co-workers. She had that opportunity to go back home to Miami and go and brag to her friends about her son working at Rancho Los Amigos, and I feel like, after spending so much time as a child in the principal's office, those are the moments that made up for everything that I had ever done terrible in the past.

Speaker 1:

But All those moments became possible because of the efforts and the hard work of my mom. She took me to band practice and she made those sacrifices that all mothers do, and I don't think my documentation style is very different from hers, because she was documenting on the weekends and evenings and I swore I would never document like my mom and I just think that's just an occupational hazard, but whatever. But on this Mother's Day, I celebrate my mom by recognizing the sacrifices that she made and allowed me to be here in this moment and have the opportunity to hopefully impact someone's life in a very meaningful way. And, when it all boils down to it, the things that my mother gave me growing up the GI Joe with the Kung Fu grip and the Transformer that I traded for that peanut butter and jelly sandwich only because it had the good grape jelly on it. Or even my first pair of name brand sneakers, which were LA gear, that I wore on my first day of high school they were ugly, they were terrible. Where LA Gay that I wore on my first day of high school they were ugly, they were terrible. But the most lasting gift that my mother ever gave me has always been my work ethic and my passion and commitment to help people, and that is what I hope I share with each of you every single time I'm on this podcast.

Speaker 1:

So today, on this Mother's Day edition, I want to start by sending a hug to everyone whose mothers live in their hearts and in their memory, or mothers who have lost a child and long to hear the voice of their child again. Today we celebrate you. We shower you with our love and our hugs and our prayers that the memory of your loved ones remain in your hearts and provide you with some level of comfort and a smile each time you just think of them. Just hold on to those memories like an endearing postcard that brings you joy every time that person comes to mind. And for those of you celebrating Mother's Day for the very first time, enjoy the love and the warmth that that very first Mother's Day brings to you, and hold on to your loved ones and enjoy every moment of your life with them. Well, that's all I have for you. I mean it wasn't really that much to add to what we've already done, but if you've not done so already, don't forget to like and subscribe to the podcast. We so love and appreciate everything that everyone has submitted, sent in, emailed. We just love everything that you've done to support the podcast. We are growing and we hope to continue to grow with all of you.
