Hello everyone, welcome to Self Talk. Can you believe it? It is episode 200. Yes, our 200th episode of Self Talk with Dr Ray Self, that's me. Today I'm going to talk about words. And I know you've heard a lot about the power of words. And you don't want to get mystical or mysterious about it, however, there is a way to invoke the power of God, to stir the power of God, to bring in the anointing that can bring protection and blessings to you and your family. Let's talk about this on this show of uh…episode of Self Talk. We are brought to you by the International College of Ministry, we are still enrolling. icmcollege.org. Take advantage of our $400 special before the 25th of December. God bless you, thanks for listening to Self Talk with me.

Okay, here we go. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, I thank you for everyone listening to this show, this episode. I pray, Father, my words will be a blessing to them. Holy Spirit, you are welcome– you're welcome to speak through me, speak to me, and through me. And I ask you just to open up the ears and the hearts and our understanding, Father, of your word and your truth, Father. We thank you, Jesus, in your holy name. Amen, amen.

So, I want to tell you something. You know, words are powerful; however, I want you to be– I want you to understand why words are powerful, exactly what that means. Proverbs 18:21 says life and death are in the power of the tongue, okay? And then the Bible also talks about blessings and curses coming from our tongue. James 3:10 says From the same tongue comes blessing and cursing. So, what is that? Let me, let me tell you how that works. We do need to be careful with our tongue, ‘cause what happens is, when we speak according to God's will and according to God's word, what we're doing is we are giving the Holy Spirit permission to act on our part. God hears these words, the Holy Spirit hears these words, and things happen. The words themselves are not powerful, but the cause and effect of the words are powerful. When we speak in alignment with Satan, things that Satan can agree with, it is like giving the demons permission to say, “Aha! Ray’s given us permission to do this and that! Let's go for it!” In other words, our words can stir up the anointing of the Holy Spirit, the power of God, our words can stir up demonic power.

You know, I've talked about this, maybe…it's been a while ago, but I, I knew a– I had a friend of mine, and uh, it was a lady I knew years and years ago. An amazing woman, and she was a very talented lady. She was a photographer, a bookkeeper, and she had all kinds of skills. She was an excellent uh, carpenter, she was an excellent uh, mechanic. She could fix cars, she could build homes, she was a, an award-winning photographer. She was an excellent bookkeeper. Tremendously skilled and talented woman. But if you met her and you went to her house, you would see that she lived in a house in a very– in the inner city that literally you could see through the walls. Whenever it rained, she would have to put four or five buckets out just to catch the water dripping through the roof. In the winter time, the wind would blow through the walls. This– you had to be careful. I visited her home one time, and she would tell me, “Be careful where you step because you might fall through the floor.” And it was kind of strange because she lived in terrible poverty all the time. But when you would talk to her, she would introduce herself - and I'm going to call her Mary - she would say, “Hi, my name is Mary. I'm just a poor girl, I'm just a poor girl,” and she always liked to call herself a poor person. Now, there was no reason for her to be poor, there was no…I mean, she had, she had ways of making all kinds of money - tremendous skills - but she continually spoke this word curse over her life. She spoke poverty over herself. And I want to tell you something, the demons made that happen. And she always manifested and showed evidence of her words. She was always poor. This is what she believed about herself, you know, faith comes by hearing, and sometimes this hearing your own words produces faith.

Now, in the same time, I know you don't want to be ridiculous and go, “Well, I'm rich, I'm rich,” you know, “I'm powerful, I'm powerful, I'm,” you know, “I'm, I'm great, I'm great.” No, that's, that's not going to work either, okay? You don't want to get, like I said, mystical, you don't want to get into um, weird New Age stuff. However, when you confess the word of God, things– what I like to do is sometimes I kind of do a, a prayer and a confession: “Lord, your word says that I am above and not beneath, I am the head and not the tail. Lord, your word says that I am blessed coming in, I'm blessed going out, I'm blessed in the country, I'm blessed in the city, all the work of my hands is blessed. Lord, I thank you for your word. Lord, I proclaim your word to the heavenlies.” These are words that God can, can act on, amen. “Lord, your word says that you've given me authority over snakes and scorpions and all the power of the enemy, Father, according to your word that I'm speaking now,” you hear me, folks? “I'm speaking now, I take power over the enemy.” And I'll proclaim that we have power over the works of Satan. “Lord, your word says if I submit to, to you and resist the devil, he will flee. Lord, I thank you, Father, now that Satan is fleeing from my family, he's fleeing from my life in the name of Jesus Christ.”

And so, what I'm doing here is words are powerful, in a good way, when you speak in agreement with God. And when you speak in agreement with God, heavenly forces - which is the Holy Spirit - act on your behalf. When you speak in agreement with the devil, the devil will act on your behalf. And so we want to be careful that you…with words like, “Oh, my family will never do this and my family never has this,” and, you know, “Oh, my kids they are so this,” and uh, and, “Oh, every time I do this, this happens.” Well, those kind of words pick, pick the ears. What I like to say is they prick the ears of demons, and they go, “Aha! Here's someone speaking something that we can work with.” Now, demons cannot work with the word of God, okay? The word of God is powerful, sharper than a two-edged sword. And so when I speak in agreement with God's word, God hears that. Faith comes by hearing. The Bible says that we're saved by our– we're healed and saved by our confession. If we confess with our mouth and believe with the heart, Jesus is Lord. And so, speaking and believing is powerful and can move the hand of God.

So what the point of this– what I want to get across to you is we need to - I encourage you to - speak the word of God over your family, over your situation. You know, maybe you're struggling financially, maybe you're having a struggle financially. “Lord, you said that um, that you own the earth and the fullness thereof. Father, you own the cattle on a thousand hills and all the gold and silver are yours, Father. Lord, I thank you, Father, according to your word that, that you are my source, you, you are my provision, Father. I thank you, Lord. Lord, you said Jesus came to give me life and life more abundantly. Lord, I thank you for the abundant life that Jesus is giving me.” And maybe…maybe you're sick. “Lord, your word says by His stripes I am healed. I thank you Ray Self is healed by the stripes on the back of Jesus Christ. I am healed.” I'm not just making up things…and that…I'm speaking in accordance to a prophetic word that God has written in the Bible, which is very, very powerful. And so again, life and death are in the power of the tongue. We speak life when we speak in agreement with God. We speak death when we speak in agreement with Satan. And I’ve watched– I've seen parents– I heard stories of parents just, just talking to their kids and going, “Oh, little Johnny, you, you, you keep behaving like that, you'll never amount to anything. Why are you so stupid?” You know, “Why is it you, you, you never, you never seem to get a good grade?” And they're literally speaking word curses over their children. Now I'm not saying we don't speak truth to our kids when they, when they make a mistake, that was a mistake. When they fail, that was a failure. But we can also speak life to our kids. Life to our kids. “Johnny, look, that– what you did was wrong, that is not who you are. You are a child of God, Johnny. The Bible says you're a joint heir with Jesus Christ. The Bible says that, that you are a, a, an adopted child of God. Johnny, you are perfectly capable. Johnny, you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. I know you can do this, Johnny.” Or you can say, “Johnny, you always fail. Johnny, you always mess up. Johnny, what's wrong with you? Why do you always aggravate everybody?”

Well…now I– don't get legalistic about that, but those are, are dangerous words that, that the devil can act upon. And uh, I have a good friend of mine, a very, very powerful story. This is a true story. And this friend of mine is a very capable, capable man. As a matter of fact, um, that one time he was um, in, in the Air Force and he was a missile programmer for the Air Force. Very, very, uh, and now a very successful IT guy. But at one point in his life, he lived seven years as a homeless man. Seven years, he lived homeless. And, everything fell apart; he lost everything he had, ended up homeless, living in the woods, and living on the streets in a town in Florida. And one day - he, he could never understand what had happened to him - and one day the Lord spoke to him and he told him - I'll call his name uh, Mike. “Mike, you're living under a curse.” And Mike didn't understand what it was. And all of a sudden, the Lord reminded him that when he was a young man, his father looked at him and said, “Mike, you will never amount to anything. You will never amount to anything.” He spoke those words to him. And that was a curse. He literally spoke those words, and Mike began to live that. He lived the curse out and became homeless. Once he discovered the curse, he knew the word of God; he knew that the word of God says in Galatians that Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of the law. So he began to proclaim, “Wait a minute, my Savior has redeemed me from every curse! My Savior, Jesus Christ, has redeemed me for every curse.” He started doing spiritual warfare by confessing and taking authority the word of God gives us to do, and he comes out of it. And he gets free, and he breaks free from it. You know, a lot of homeless people never ever, ever break free, that's a whole nother story and a very sad and tragic situation, uh, in, in America.

So words are powerful, but don't go around getting strange about it. I'll tell you another story. I remember once a lady and a husband and wife came over to my house, and um…we used to have prayer meetings at the home. And we're sitting around there and, and uh, I looked at, looked at Mary, and I said, “How can I pray for you?” She said, “Oh, my knee hurts so bad, I have so much pain in my knee,” and her husband stopped and said, “Don't ever say that, don't ever say that.” And I'm going, no, see that– she's not– and I, I said, “No, that's reality. She's got pain in her knee, that's reality. Now, I'm going to lay hands on her because the Bible says we'll lay hands on the sick and they shall recover, and I'm going to believe according to the word of God that she's going to recover.” But her husband didn't even want her to admit a problem. Well, the Bible doesn't say that we should just avoid all reality and not speak a problem out loud. You know, we can take– we confess our faults one to another and pray that we may be healed. Confess what? Our faults one to another, and pray that we may be healed. So confessing a fault, confessing a sin, confessing a problem: that's, that's not a curse, that's, that's just being truthful. Now, saying for instance, “Lord, I'm struggling financially. Lord, I'm struggling financially. Lord, I need your help,” well, that's real, that's real. “I thank you, Lord, that your word says that you are my source and you are my provider. Thank you, Father, for providing for me.” That's being real. But if I were to go around saying, “I'm always…I never have money, I'm always poor, I never have enough.” Well, that's different. Just to confess that hey, I'm having an issue, but to say, “I'm always this way, this– I'll never come out of this,” those are word curses - and I rebuke those curses in the name of Jesus Christ. Those are word curses. Now, just admitting an issue, that's not a curse, that's just a real issue. To admit, to admit that you're sick, that's, that's okay. To admit that you have pain, that's okay. To admit you, you have a marriage issue, that's fine to, to admit…I'm sorry you have a marriage issue. To admit a problem, that's okay. Confess your faults one to another and pray that you may be healed.

So to confess a fault or an issue is okay, amen. But to believe that this is who you are and this will never change and this is always going to be your reality, now that's different. That's different. And that's the negative. But when we speak the word of God over our family…you know, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. I Proclaim that, I shout that over my family now. My family is under the blood covenant of Jesus Christ,” and that that's scriptural. “I thank you, Father, for that. Hallelujah. I, I say now that no weapon formed against my family can prosper.” That's the word of God, I’m proclaiming that. Amen. Um, and you know the blessings of Deuteronomy 28 - confess them. “Lord, I thank you my family's blessed coming in, blessed going out, blessed in the country, blessed in the city, all the work of our hands are blessed. We're above, and not beneath; we're the head and not the tail. I thank you, Father,” and I'm speaking that, okay? “Lord, I thank you, Father, that you've given me power over snakes and scorpions and, and no harm shall be– become me. Lord, I thank you, Father, that my family has power over snakes and scorpions and all the power of the enemy, Lord. According to your word, Father. I thank you, Lord. I thank you, Father. I thank you, Father.” Lord, I thank you, Father, that we are overcomers, Father, by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony. I thank you, Father.”

So I'm proclaiming God's truth over my family. And I want to tell you something, things will happen. Also, the Bible says, “in everything, give thanks.” And I'm continually thanking God in the midst of everything. Remember, Apostle Paul was thanking God while he was in prison. Now, I don't think he was thanking God he was in prison, but while he was in prison, he was thanking God. He was– he wasn't thanking God that he had been put in prison, but in the midst of being in prison, he was able to thank God, and that is very powerful. So, the principle again - I'll just give you a synopsis - is I encourage you, speak words that are scriptural, that are coming from the Holy Spirit or written in the Bible. Those are words that God will act upon, the Holy Spirit will move upon, okay? When you speak words that give Satan permission, you know, word curses, negative, awful, horrible, things - even in jest…And you've heard the expression “curse words.” You know, blank blankit. God blankit. Well, those are, what, what are that? They're curse words. The, the Bible says blessings and curses should not come out of the same mouth. So out of our mouth we can speak blessings, out of our mouth we can speak curses. I choose you today. I, I encourage you today, speak blessings over your home, your marriage, your wife, your husband, your children, your grandchildren. Proclaim God's blessings, God's favor, God's protection, God's word. Remember, when Jesus was in the desert being tempted of the devil and the devil was trying to get Him to question Himself, “if you be the Son of God, turn these stones into bread…If you be the Son of God,” show you– “throw yourself down from this temple,” and Jesus would respond to the devil with “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone,’” okay. “it is written…” and Satan couldn't have nothing to do with Him. After that, he could not, he could not touch Jesus because “it is written.” He knew the word of God, and He spoke the word of God against the devil, and he used the word of God as a sword. Maybe that's a good way to uh, wrap this up. The word of God is a sword that you can use to protect your family and change your life.

I hope this show has been a good to you. I hope, I hope it's been a…been a blessing to you. I appreciate you listening to Self Talk. Share this with your friends, you know, get the word out. I'd like to get more downloads. Um, I appreciate you so much for your faithfulness. God bless you.
