But it also then allowed"},{"startTime":179.74,"endTime":183.18,"body":"for less admin. It meant less"},{"startTime":179.74,"endTime":183.18,"body":"customer service to have to work"},{"startTime":183.18,"endTime":186.42,"body":"with. Meant making more profit"},{"startTime":183.18,"endTime":186.42,"body":"per sale. It meant being"},{"startTime":186.42,"endTime":189.48,"body":"profitable on sale, number one,"},{"startTime":186.42,"endTime":189.48,"body":"so not having to be as good with"},{"startTime":189.48,"endTime":192.66,"body":"ads and things like that. So I"},{"startTime":189.48,"endTime":192.66,"body":"think that's key. The other bit"},{"startTime":192.66,"endTime":196.2,"body":"is around suppliers, and quality"},{"startTime":192.66,"endTime":196.2,"body":"of suppliers, like domestic"},{"startTime":196.2,"endTime":199.98,"body":"suppliers or UK based suppliers,"},{"startTime":196.2,"endTime":199.98,"body":"for ensuring that you get fast"},{"startTime":199.98,"endTime":204.44,"body":"delivery out to customers and"},{"startTime":199.98,"endTime":204.44,"body":"easy returns, like nice,"},{"startTime":205.1,"endTime":207.86,"body":"friendly customer service and"},{"startTime":205.1,"endTime":207.86,"body":"customers that are happy with"},{"startTime":207.92,"endTime":210.56,"body":"the quality of the products that"},{"startTime":207.92,"endTime":210.56,"body":"they're receiving. Those would"},{"startTime":210.56,"endTime":213.2,"body":"be the foundations I'd I'd think"},{"startTime":210.56,"endTime":213.2,"body":"about when if I was going into"},{"startTime":213.2,"endTime":215.3,"body":"this for the first time this"},{"startTime":213.2,"endTime":215.3,"body":"year, and it's good to have the"},{"startTime":215.3,"endTime":218.3,"body":"kind of end in mind from the"},{"startTime":215.3,"endTime":218.3,"body":"very start. So you know what"},{"startTime":218.3,"endTime":221.2,"body":"type of business you want to"},{"startTime":218.3,"endTime":221.2,"body":"have in a year or three years or"},{"startTime":221.2,"endTime":223.36,"body":"five years time. So then, when"},{"startTime":221.2,"endTime":223.36,"body":"you have that vision in mind,"},{"startTime":223.36,"endTime":225.52,"body":"you know the decisions that"},{"startTime":223.36,"endTime":225.52,"body":"you're going to make to put the"},{"startTime":225.52,"endTime":227.86,"body":"right foundations in place for a"},{"startTime":225.52,"endTime":227.86,"body":"business that actually allows"},{"startTime":227.86,"endTime":230.32,"body":"for that lifestyle. It would be"},{"startTime":227.86,"endTime":230.32,"body":"quite easy to just jump into a"},{"startTime":230.32,"endTime":232.48,"body":"business because you're quick"},{"startTime":230.32,"endTime":232.48,"body":"you want to make quick cash"},{"startTime":232.48,"endTime":236.02,"body":"online in the next month or two,"},{"startTime":232.48,"endTime":236.02,"body":"but that would make sure that"},{"startTime":236.02,"endTime":238.24,"body":"you make very different"},{"startTime":236.02,"endTime":238.24,"body":"decisions based on if you're"},{"startTime":238.24,"endTime":241.62,"body":"making decisions based on a real"},{"startTime":238.24,"endTime":241.62,"body":"lifestyle vision that you've got"},{"startTime":241.62,"endTime":244.5,"body":"in mind. Is that how you got"},{"startTime":241.62,"endTime":244.5,"body":"started initially, when you had"},{"startTime":244.5,"endTime":246.9,"body":"your online business? Did you"},{"startTime":244.5,"endTime":246.9,"body":"think about the future from the"},{"startTime":246.9,"endTime":250.98,"body":"very start? Yeah, I did, and I"},{"startTime":246.9,"endTime":250.98,"body":"probably didn't do it as"},{"startTime":250.98,"endTime":254.28,"body":"strategically as I would now,"},{"startTime":250.98,"endTime":254.28,"body":"but at the very, very beginning,"},{"startTime":254.28,"endTime":257.46,"body":"yeah, I wasn't familiar or even"},{"startTime":254.28,"endTime":257.46,"body":"aware of the options. They say"},{"startTime":257.64,"endTime":260.18,"body":"that you don't know what you"},{"startTime":257.64,"endTime":260.18,"body":"don't know, right? So if I was"},{"startTime":260.18,"endTime":263.48,"body":"thinking, well, I want a"},{"startTime":260.18,"endTime":263.48,"body":"business. I want a life of"},{"startTime":263.6,"endTime":266.48,"body":"freedom. I want to be able to"},{"startTime":263.6,"endTime":266.48,"body":"run it from a laptop. I didn't"},{"startTime":266.54,"endTime":270.08,"body":"at that time understand the"},{"startTime":266.54,"endTime":270.08,"body":"economics and the like,"},{"startTime":270.14,"endTime":272.96,"body":"offsetting the cost per"},{"startTime":270.14,"endTime":272.96,"body":"acquisition with something like"},{"startTime":272.96,"endTime":275.78,"body":"paid ads with a nice,"},{"startTime":272.96,"endTime":275.78,"body":"profitable, high ticket sale on"},{"startTime":275.78,"endTime":278.48,"body":"the front end. I didn't really"},{"startTime":275.78,"endTime":278.48,"body":"get that. So I guess I didn't. I"},{"startTime":278.48,"endTime":281.02,"body":"went into it a little bit"},{"startTime":278.48,"endTime":281.02,"body":"naively, a little bit blindly"},{"startTime":281.02,"endTime":283.3,"body":"and just thought, well, I'll"},{"startTime":281.02,"endTime":283.3,"body":"just sell the kind of like low"},{"startTime":283.3,"endTime":286.48,"body":"end, cheaper products that I"},{"startTime":283.3,"endTime":286.48,"body":"think I could sell and that i i"},{"startTime":286.48,"endTime":289.06,"body":"think I'm worth, you know, in"},{"startTime":286.48,"endTime":289.06,"body":"terms of as an E commerce"},{"startTime":289.06,"endTime":292.78,"body":"beginner at the time. And, yeah,"},{"startTime":289.06,"endTime":292.78,"body":"that probably set me back a"},{"startTime":292.78,"endTime":296.02,"body":"little bit that misunderstanding"},{"startTime":292.78,"endTime":296.02,"body":"or that naivety around the"},{"startTime":296.02,"endTime":300.18,"body":"model. But over time, you just"},{"startTime":296.02,"endTime":300.18,"body":"continue learning you can. And"},{"startTime":300.18,"endTime":302.22,"body":"you're progressing. You make"},{"startTime":300.18,"endTime":302.22,"body":"some mistakes. You know. You're"},{"startTime":302.22,"endTime":304.68,"body":"not striving for perfection."},{"startTime":302.22,"endTime":304.68,"body":"You're just trying to make those"},{"startTime":304.68,"endTime":308.46,"body":"1% improvements every day, and"},{"startTime":304.68,"endTime":308.46,"body":"along the way those mistakes, I"},{"startTime":308.46,"endTime":311.16,"body":"think you just have to view them"},{"startTime":308.46,"endTime":311.16,"body":"as feedback. You just look at"},{"startTime":311.16,"endTime":313.26,"body":"them and say, okay, that went"},{"startTime":311.16,"endTime":313.26,"body":"that wasn't quite right. I"},{"startTime":313.26,"endTime":315.78,"body":"wasn't profitable enough. When I"},{"startTime":313.26,"endTime":315.78,"body":"was selling those low ticket"},{"startTime":315.78,"endTime":318.3,"body":"products, I ended up with an"},{"startTime":315.78,"endTime":318.3,"body":"inbox full of customers that"},{"startTime":318.3,"endTime":321.74,"body":"weren't happy with the items and"},{"startTime":318.3,"endTime":321.74,"body":"the suppliers being in China and"},{"startTime":321.74,"endTime":325.52,"body":"stuff. So I set small,"},{"startTime":321.74,"endTime":325.52,"body":"achievable goals to avoid"},{"startTime":325.52,"endTime":328.7,"body":"burnout, both in terms of income"},{"startTime":325.52,"endTime":328.7,"body":"goals, but also lifestyle goals."},{"startTime":328.76,"endTime":331.34,"body":"Um, like one of which was"},{"startTime":328.76,"endTime":331.34,"body":"moving, being able to move to"},{"startTime":331.34,"endTime":335.0,"body":"Thailand, being able to leave my"},{"startTime":331.34,"endTime":335.0,"body":"corporate, um, nine to five job"},{"startTime":335.06,"endTime":338.36,"body":"at the time and travel the world"},{"startTime":335.06,"endTime":338.36,"body":"and run my business through a"},{"startTime":338.36,"endTime":342.4,"body":"laptop. And so because I kept"},{"startTime":338.36,"endTime":342.4,"body":"those things in mind, I it's"},{"startTime":342.4,"endTime":343.24,"body":"almost like a"},{"startTime":344.32,"endTime":347.02,"body":"a sat nav in your mind, like"},{"startTime":344.32,"endTime":347.02,"body":"you've set the destination, you"},{"startTime":347.02,"endTime":349.72,"body":"know, the target, place that"},{"startTime":347.02,"endTime":349.72,"body":"you're trying to get to. And"},{"startTime":349.72,"endTime":352.6,"body":"then along the way, your brain's"},{"startTime":349.72,"endTime":352.6,"body":"very good at figuring out the"},{"startTime":352.6,"endTime":355.0,"body":"journey and figuring out the"},{"startTime":352.6,"endTime":355.0,"body":"mistakes and the pitfalls and"},{"startTime":355.0,"endTime":358.24,"body":"the things you need to avoid to"},{"startTime":355.0,"endTime":358.24,"body":"get there, as long as you keep"},{"startTime":358.24,"endTime":360.84,"body":"reminding yourself of why you're"},{"startTime":358.24,"endTime":360.84,"body":"doing this, what the end"},{"startTime":360.84,"endTime":364.68,"body":"destination is. And for me it"},{"startTime":360.84,"endTime":364.68,"body":"was a life of autonomy, freedom,"},{"startTime":364.68,"endTime":367.26,"body":"control, not being chained to a"},{"startTime":364.68,"endTime":367.26,"body":"desk, not having to deal with"},{"startTime":367.26,"endTime":370.26,"body":"1000s of customer service"},{"startTime":367.26,"endTime":370.26,"body":"tickets every day and to make"},{"startTime":370.26,"endTime":373.8,"body":"nice high ticket and profitable"},{"startTime":370.26,"endTime":373.8,"body":"sales with customers that were"},{"startTime":373.8,"endTime":376.8,"body":"really happy with their orders."},{"startTime":373.8,"endTime":376.8,"body":"And for me, that's why the"},{"startTime":376.8,"endTime":379.92,"body":"domestic what we call the home"},{"startTime":376.8,"endTime":379.92,"body":"turf advantage model, where"},{"startTime":379.92,"endTime":383.48,"body":"you're selling higher priced"},{"startTime":379.92,"endTime":383.48,"body":"items from UK suppliers who can"},{"startTime":383.48,"endTime":386.3,"body":"offer next day delivery to"},{"startTime":383.48,"endTime":386.3,"body":"customers. And that's why it"},{"startTime":386.3,"endTime":388.7,"body":"made sense, and that's why it"},{"startTime":386.3,"endTime":388.7,"body":"makes sense. But you have to"},{"startTime":388.7,"endTime":391.82,"body":"understand, we've been through"},{"startTime":388.7,"endTime":391.82,"body":"these mistakes. We started by"},{"startTime":391.82,"endTime":395.12,"body":"going with a e commerce business"},{"startTime":391.82,"endTime":395.12,"body":"that was low ticket and poor"},{"startTime":395.12,"endTime":397.52,"body":"quality products that were being"},{"startTime":395.12,"endTime":397.52,"body":"shipped from around the world."},{"startTime":397.52,"endTime":401.44,"body":"And what that led to, even a few"},{"startTime":397.52,"endTime":401.44,"body":"years ago, was unhappy customers"},{"startTime":401.68,"endTime":403.9,"body":"impatient customers, because"},{"startTime":401.68,"endTime":403.9,"body":"rightly so, they're waiting"},{"startTime":403.9,"endTime":407.02,"body":"weeks for their products to"},{"startTime":403.9,"endTime":407.02,"body":"arrive. And the straw that broke"},{"startTime":407.02,"endTime":410.02,"body":"the camel's back for me was when"},{"startTime":407.02,"endTime":410.02,"body":"I received a return back from"},{"startTime":410.02,"endTime":413.2,"body":"Canada to the UK that had been"},{"startTime":410.02,"endTime":413.2,"body":"shipped to the customer from"},{"startTime":413.2,"endTime":415.78,"body":"China, and that the emissions"},{"startTime":413.2,"endTime":415.78,"body":"must have been crazy for this"},{"startTime":415.78,"endTime":419.74,"body":"order. But the camel that really"},{"startTime":415.78,"endTime":419.74,"body":"broke my back was when I opened"},{"startTime":419.74,"endTime":423.48,"body":"the package, and the smell of"},{"startTime":419.74,"endTime":423.48,"body":"the return I've still haunts me"},{"startTime":423.48,"endTime":425.82,"body":"to this day, because I'm sure"},{"startTime":423.48,"endTime":425.82,"body":"that that customer did something"},{"startTime":425.82,"endTime":428.46,"body":"to the product, but to smell"},{"startTime":425.82,"endTime":428.46,"body":"that bad, or maybe that's how it"},{"startTime":428.46,"endTime":431.16,"body":"arrived, and that's why I wanted"},{"startTime":428.46,"endTime":431.16,"body":"to return it. I don't know, but"},{"startTime":431.16,"endTime":433.62,"body":"it's just an example of"},{"startTime":431.16,"endTime":433.62,"body":"sometimes you put yourself into"},{"startTime":433.62,"endTime":435.96,"body":"these positions, if you don't"},{"startTime":433.62,"endTime":435.96,"body":"make a conscious decision from"},{"startTime":435.96,"endTime":438.9,"body":"the very start how you want your"},{"startTime":435.96,"endTime":438.9,"body":"business to look with really low"},{"startTime":438.9,"endTime":442.04,"body":"returns and quick deliveries and"},{"startTime":438.9,"endTime":442.04,"body":"friendly customers, as much as"},{"startTime":442.04,"endTime":444.92,"body":"you can possibly make. It makes"},{"startTime":442.04,"endTime":444.92,"body":"a big difference to the actual"},{"startTime":444.92,"endTime":447.2,"body":"running of the business when"},{"startTime":444.92,"endTime":447.2,"body":"you've made those decisions up"},{"startTime":447.2,"endTime":450.86,"body":"from, yeah, exactly.
