In this episode, I am going to be sharing about the rule of three that really helped my business scale. I really stuck to this rule, especially the year my business doubled in income. I'm ready and so excited to share exactly how, because it's something that you can apply literally today and increase productivity this week. Okay, so we've all been there, right? You get through the work day, you get through the week, and you're so frustrated because you're sitting there like

Why am I no closer to my goals? What did I spend my week doing? Why do I still have this huge looming to-do list? I was feeling like that all the time. And so I dug deep into that and I read this book called The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy. And he actually introduced his readers to what he calls his Sunday planning, where you plan out literally your week sitting down for an hour or less on a Sunday.

And he has a sheet you can use. I've just way oversimplified it. I like things to be really simple. But one of the things he talks about in his book is how easy we can get sucked into the trap as business owners of just really working in our business the day to day and never working on it and never really focusing on the things that lead to that growth. Right. I refer to it as like if you're feel like you're on a paddle boat going upstream.

And what you're doing is just barely keeping things afloat and going. You're just barely getting your deadlines done. You're never really spending that time on how can I actually grow the business? What are the steps I need to take? Are you investing in your education, time, and energy, resources into it? Are you looking at new marketing steps that you can take to get in front of more of the right people? Are you being proactive about what you need to do to get growth going?

Or are you just so stuck on the day to day getting editing done, getting basic emails done, posting on Instagram that we don't have time for those things. And as entrepreneurs, we wear so many different hats that it's easy to get sucked into that cycle because there's so much to do that we miss or get to the end of our really busy season and realize we did not plan accordingly for what's ahead. We did not plan for how we're going to make money during this off season and plan for the marketing steps that we need to take to really get stuff moving.

And so what I propose is once you make your plans for the year, when you start each week, write down your three top goals for the week. Now, these can be maybe more mundane things, right? But I'm also thinking what goals can I achieve this week that will move me to my bigger goal, my end of year goal, my end of quarter goal? I want to make sure that each week I'm doing something that moves my business forward in the direction that I want it to go. And then

Every single day you can write down what are the daily checklists, the three things I need to do today that are going to move me towards that goal. Darren Hardy goes as far to say if those things you're doing on the day to day aren't going to move you towards that goal, maybe they need to go. Okay. So let me give you an example. Maybe your goal for the week is to bring five new clients aboard. Okay. So then I need to look at what do my daily goals need to be to get there?

Maybe it's, need to make sure that on one day I reach out to 20 possible leads on Instagram. And another day I'm going to visit 10 local businesses, inviting them in for a session. Maybe another day I'm gonna plan to do an Instagram giveaway post and bring in clients doing that or reach out to this list of past clients and know how many I want to convert, right? When I break it down into simple actionable steps, it allows me to get it done.

And then when I start the day, I get my three tasks done and I know that what I did was productive and is going to move the business forward. The last piece of this is again, make sure that you actually write it down. Don't just say it in your head or tell yourself that, but if you DM me the word plan, P-L-A-N, I will send you a really easy sheet and a space to write down your big three for the week and then your three for each day to hold yourself accountable.

Start each week with this. Don't open your email before doing this. Don't open Instagram before doing this. Hold yourself accountable to that higher level, to that really getting serious about your business growth and development. Make sure that that takes priority. Make sure that your big three for each day actually get done before you do other things, right? Because that's what actually is moving the business forward, not those smaller mundane tasks. And if you find yourself in a place where you're really having trouble getting your big three done,

Christa (04:47.67)
I would look at what am I doing in my business that isn't moving it forward, that doesn't need to be getting done, that I'm just doing to fill time with, or maybe it's time to outsource and get things off of your plate so that you can focus on those higher level tasks of really moving things forward. So if you want that planning sheet DME plan, PLAN to Krista, Renee at Krista with a C-H underscore Renee, R-E-N-E, and we will send that right over to you.
