It's Bizzy
It’s Bizzy is about real life—the messy parts, the funny parts, the hard parts, and everything in between.
I’m Elizabeth “Bizzy” Chance, and after years of talking about sobriety and recovery, the conversation has grown into something bigger. We talk about health and wellness, relationships, family, faith, reinvention, current events, aging, starting over, and figuring out how to live a life that actually feels like yours.
Some episodes are solo, some are conversations with experts, authors, doctors, coaches, and people with interesting stories—but the goal is always the same: to have honest conversations that make us think, laugh, question things, and maybe do life a little differently.
I don’t have all the answers, and I’m not interested in pretending I do. I’m interested in asking better questions, staying curious, and continuing to grow.
Welcome to It’s Bizzy. Life is complicated. Let’s talk about it.

Episode 649: When Bizzy Stopped Being Busy

Have you ever noticed that when life gets uncomfortable, it's easier to stay busy than it is to sit still and feel?
In this solo episode, I'm sharing something I've been learning while writing my book. After reaching more than 45,000 words, I've spent a lot of time looking back on my life, and I've realized that for years, busyness was my way of avoiding difficult emotions. If I was moving, multitasking, taking care of everyone else, planning the next thing, or chasing the next goal, I didn't have to slow down long enough to feel what was really going on inside.
Lately, I've been doing the opposite. I've been setting boundaries, staying home, writing, reflecting, praying, and learning that growth often happens in the quiet moments we try so hard to avoid.
I also share some observations from my recent travels and how watching Europeans experience America through fresh eyes reminded me of the things we often take for granted—our friendliness, our optimism, our communities, and the simple joys that surround us every day.
If you've been feeling overwhelmed, distracted, exhausted, or disconnected, this episode is an invitation to slow down, take a breath, and ask yourself a simple question:
What am I staying busy to avoid feeling?
In this episode:
• Why busyness can become a distraction from our emotions
• What writing my book is teaching me about myself
• The myth of multitasking
• Learning to be present instead of constantly moving
• Gratitude, travel, and seeing America through new eyes
• Why slowing down may be the most productive thing we can do
Thank you for listening. And remember: you are not alone.
