Mary Sue Dahill:
What are the 5 biggest CRM mistakes that business coaches and consultants make? Hi. My name is Mary Sue Dahill. I'm the host of CRM Success Secrets podcast. I have a really unique view on what works and what doesn't work for coaches and consultants in their sales and marketing because I help them actually implement their strategies into, the software I sell using automation, and I have witnessed some of the same problems over and over, hook, and that's what I'm sharing in the 5 biggest CRM mistakes. In prior episodes, I covered mistake number 5, which was not growing your mailing list, mistake number 4, which is overcomplicating your business systems and technology. Mistake 3, launching without a promotion plan. Mistake number 2 hook is offering a low cost membership program, and then we're at the final episode with the number one mistake, which is marketing that doesn't align with your ideal client, and I can't tell you how many times I have seen this one. It really hurts.
I've seen it happened for, you know, mostly kind of the same reason. They've been, in business for a little while. Their business has evolved, but their marketing hasn't. So their ideal client has shifted a little bit, it's enough of a shift that their marketing should have shifted. So let me share an example, with you. So host. This coach is very successful. She does 1 on 1 and group coaching, and over the years, her ideal client has evolved from newbies in her industry to experienced people in her industry that are really looking to level up her skills, hook, and she as a coach loves working with people that are very passionate about what they're doing.
They're trying to be super professional about it and grow their skills. That's who she wants to work with, but her marketing was targeting the newbies, and her offers were kind of try before you buy free, events, and those were not resonating with her new ideal client. So what was happening is, she just wasn't getting, the people into her classes like she used to because, you know, her community had also shifted to very professional people in her industry, so she had to take a step back to see why wasn't she getting the sign ups that she wanted, and that's what, you know, we we were actually talking about it. I was like, you know, you're saying to me that your ideal client is the super professional person looking to level up, so why would they be interested in a try before you buy? Because they're making money. They wanna be spending money to really have just top notch training and mentoring to take it to the next level, and so what she did was she stopped offering the Try Before You Buy classes and started offering paid entry classes so that they could still try it, but they were buying it first. They were investing money into, trying out her coaching, and that had a big Impact. Also, the class that she was she would offer, there was more transformation, hook, at Incorporated in it than there was with the Try Before You Buy. So for people that were willing to spend money, that had the money to spend and are looking for a coach that would really take them to the next level.
Her new offer made a lot more sense. So you can see where when your marketing is no longer aligned with your ideal client, you're putting a lot of effort into something that isn't going to ho reap the kind of clients that you're looking for. So what do you how do you avoid this trap? Because everyone's business changes and evolves. Hook. So my recommendation is, at a minimum, on an annual basis, you should reevaluate where your actual revenue is coming from, who your current ideal client is, hook, and be comfortable letting go of your prior ideal client. Then take a look at your marketing strategy through the lens of your new ideal client, and make sure that they align. Make sure that the way that your marketing is going to attract your new ideal client. So, if you are having a hard time letting go of your prior, ideal client, which is usually the group of people that are unable to pay for your your higher level services.
Your newsletter is the perfect service. It is free. It's still valuable, and they can still get something from your newsletter. And when they're ready, they can take advantage of your higher cost offerings that you're you're making now. So just I'm leaving you with, ask yourself if your marketing strategy and current ideal client hook Align. So that's the final episode hook of our series on the 5 biggest CRM mistakes business coaches and consultants make.
