32. Art Envy: When Another Artist’s Work Hits You Like A Truck
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
We’ve all been there — you stumble across another artist’s work, and while your eyes widen to take in every last detail, your heart drops deeper and deeper into the pit of your stomach. The work is beautiful, and brilliant, and genius-level, and suddenly you’re in a complete downward spiral, questioning your entire creative existence. In this episode, I’m talking about two artists whose work hit me like a truck, and the things I had to tell myself to keep from going down a dark hole. Because art envy is real, it’s normal, and it doesn’t have to wreck you. In fact, it can actually make you a better artist. These three simple mindset shifts changed the way I experience other people’s genius — and I think they might help you too.
