EPI 78 - Are You at the Center of Your Wellness Story?
Hi friend — welcome back to The Habit Within! I’m Camille Kinzler, and today I want to invite you into a conversation that’s been stirring in me for a while: are you really at the center of your own wellness story?
For so many of us, the answer is no. We’ve been taught since we were young to be the “good girl” — to give more to others, to keep the peace, to push down our own needs. And over time, that conditioning shows up in our health. We lose trust in our intuition. We outsource our choices to experts, plans, and lab results. We forget that we are the ones shaping our own story.
This episode is about remembering — and reclaiming — that you are the creator of your wellness.
In this episode, I share:
- How “good girl culture” pulls us away from trusting ourselves — and how to start returning home
- Why gaslighting our own emotions (and our kids’ intuition) keeps us disconnected
- A clay-and-putty analogy you’ll never forget about being the creator of your own life
- Why even the best lab results, hormone protocols, or DNA testing don’t matter unless you’re centered in the process
- A guided reflection to help you imagine your life as a movie — and place yourself as the main character in your own story
This is about more than supplements, protocols, or plans. It’s about sovereignty. Because when a woman is truly rooted in herself, her presence becomes medicine — not just for her, but for everyone she touches.
Let me know what resonates:
Send me a message, tag me, or leave a review — I’d love to hear how you’re reclaiming your place at the center of your story.

Hey guys, welcome back to The Habit Within. This is Camille Kinzler. I am coming to you from my car today and so you will probably hear the AC running because I tried to record this without the AC and it was just too hot.
It just started, I mean it's still August in Texas so it's hot out here. Love being with you guys. We are, we're doing a series, a little five-part series now.

You don't have to listen to last week's in order to follow along but if you want to, please go ahead and do that. But really this is pillar number one where I'm really wanting us to just kind of change the paradigm of women's health. That's my mission and my goal as of late and in order to do that, we need to create some, you know, some pillars or some guidelines or some parameters or whatever you want to call it in order to do that.
And so today we're going to talk about how you really need to be the center of your health care. You really need to be the center of your wellness and I know that seems really simple but we have been conditioned to not be the center of our own lives, okay? We've been conditioned this way since we were very young. We have been taught to be the good girl.
We have taught, we have been taught that being good means being less to ourselves and being more to other people and I have caught myself doing this and speaking this way to my friends, daughters, and my niece who is like the coolest 16-year-old around and I've caught myself being like, oh my gosh, you're so sweet when she gives up her cake for, you know, to one of her cousins who are boys and then I catch myself and I'm like, oh no, like you do, you girl. You speak your truth. You're amazing.
All I want to hear is like really your opinion about things. Don't listen to mine or maybe we can share our opinions but like it's so important for me to hear your opinion and really like building that up in our future generation of girls I think is so essential and then also I think another important essential piece is that when our young people are looking at adults and the caretakers and they're sensing that you're angry, you're frustrated, you're sad, you're annoyed or whatever that we don't say, oh no, no, it's nothing. I'm fine because they know it, right? They sense our emotion.
They can tell if we're pissed off about something and so if we're like, no, it's fine, then what we're essentially doing is telling them that their intuition is wrong, right? That we're gaslighting them and I don't use that word very often but that's what we're doing. We're basically like, you know, that you're sensing something that's accurate but I'm going to tell you that it's wrong and so this doesn't mean that there are counselors or a therapist and that we tell them the whole deal but we say, hey, wow, you really caught on to something. I am sad today but it's cool like I'm going to work my way through it.
Thank you for like checking in, right? And so I think that the reason why I bring that up is because that puts the woman, the girl, the person back into the center, right? They're like, oh, I can trust myself. I can trust my intuition. I can trust the way that I was feeling and sensing about this and that is essential when we're looking at our health and well-being as we get older because when we go and speak to these experts or we want to have partnership with a practitioner, then we need to know and trust what we're feeling, what we're thinking, what we're knowing about ourselves is first and foremost.
And yeah, I mean, basically our world has taught us that to be a good girl, a good girl, a good girl, then we need to be the best, you know, caretaker as a woman, right? We need to be the best caretaker even if we're depleting ourselves. We need to be the peacekeeper in our family even when our boundaries are being crossed. We need to be this overachiever while pretending it's absolutely effortless.
And this is so big. Almost every single woman I work with identifies them as the type A personality and it is not effortless. They keep themselves up at night with these immense amount of checklists.
I mean, that's not only to be the best mom and to be the best career woman, but it's also to be the healthiest and look like you're 20. I mean, it is exhausting. And it's not just then for me too.
I'm part of that. I'm part of that. Or I should say I've been moving away from my identity for quite some time.
Actually, I don't think I've ever been like a quintessential, let's say, type A personality. But that probably when other people look at me, they probably see that. So I've just maybe shied away from that identity.
But yeah, I mean, this is our good girl culture, right? We smile and we give support. We never ask for too much. And then when we do that, we give away a little piece of ourselves.
So I want you to think of yourself as like you have a little piece of putty or clay in your hand. And that little piece of clay, that little round blob of clay is actually you. And you are also, this is so meta, and you are also the one that's holding the clay.
And you get to actually form and create your little model, your being, everything about you. And what happens is that over time, if we don't trust ourselves, if we don't ask ourselves what we need, then basically, then we're just kicking away. Somebody else is picking away a little piece of that clay, or they're stretching one of the arms really long, or they're pushing a little divot in this little area when we wouldn't have done that.
And so I want you to really imagine yourselves as this creative. You are the creator of your own little model of clay. And yeah, but over time, if we don't care for it, and we don't love it, and we don't ask it for what it needs, then we can look at it later and return it back into this little blob, right? Because it's lost its form.
It's lost its shape. It's lost its, yeah, it's lost its value because our value is being useful and accommodating and doing things for others. When if it fills us up and it makes us like this whole little model, then great.
But if it doesn't, then it just makes us squish back into that little blob. I don't know why that analogy came up, and I hope that it lands for somebody, but that's kind of what I'm thinking. Usually I use this main character energy, but I'm really wanting you to understand that you are the creator of your life, that it's so important for you to continually remind yourself that you are at the center, because no matter how many green juices and plenaries and protocols and all of that stuff that you try to follow, if you don't realize that you're the one who actually is creating your own little model of you, then it's never going to feel quite right.
Because the thing that works for your friend or your sister, the thing that the expert just researched and found out is a great supplement for you might not work for you. So that's what I mean by keeping the woman or having the woman at the center, your story, your history, what has worked for you, what hasn't worked for you, are so essential. Because otherwise we get into this pattern of externalizing.
We stop asking ourselves what we need. We Google what's normal when there is no normal for all women, right? We're all unique, that you follow a plan that works for somebody else. You might track your food and your steps and your cycle and all of those things and taking the hormones, but you never feel satisfied.
You never feel like it's quite right for you. And you look at your labs to tell you how you feel versus looking to see if you actually feel well. And I don't even know if very many women know what feeling good feels like.
I know that sounds really bizarre, but I think it is so true. And I know that I fall into that as well. And it's interesting because I did mention this thing about you're looking at your labs to tell you how you feel.
But I think what's really interesting about this is that I'm really getting into DNA testing genomics. And so basically what that is, is that you swab the inside of your cheek and you send it in and then you get these 500 points of information about you and yourself specifically. About how you metabolize certain medications or foods, how your body processes stress, how estrogen might work for you and your body or might build up and you might not detox estrogen as well.
I mean that's very beautiful, very precise, very specific to the person, right? It's your DNA. And also holding that truth that you have now this blueprint and it's really literally epigenetics, right? You get to decide whether you're going to turn on some of these genes or not or turn them off. And also it's very empowering because now you have your own personalized blueprint to see which direction that you want to go in for your health and wellness.
So you can stop choosing the supplement that worked for your best friend because you know based on your DNA that it does not, it's not going to work for you. So you can actually choose the things that are going to the dial more. So it's how can you hold that? How can you hold this really empowering piece of data and also recognize that it's still just a piece of data? Now it's a really strong one.
I think it's one of the strongest pieces of data out there because it's you. However, you still have to put yourself at the center. You still have to ask yourself what do I need? What's normal not for somebody else but for me? What does my body need today? How can I use this to really structure the way that I'm going to live my life to the fullest? So I think it is so powerful and it's still a lot, right? So it's really important for us to work not solely on just our lab values but how we feel with those lab values or that everyone needs to be on hormone replacement therapy and then recognizing that actually it doesn't do it.
It is actually is detrimental to you and sometimes you don't know that unless you do this DNA testing which honestly guys okay let me just tell you a piece of this is I feel like and this is what this is the future of medicine. 10 years ago a doctor told me there was a future of medicine and now I really do believe it's the future of medicine but I don't think that all family practice doctors and internal medicine doctors and OBGYN and all the things are going to have it because it's extensive and it takes time to go through the information with clients. I mean you can get some cheap ones offline but you just get the raw data.
What are you going to do with that? It's too overwhelming. It's too overwhelming for me and I also really love partnering with people but yeah so go ahead and take a breath together and just feel your body in this space in this time feel the breath going into your nose into your chest notice your fingers and your toes and just recognize that you don't have to abandon anybody to put yourself at the center. You don't have to abandon family or work or your ambitions you just need to recognize or I invite you to recognize that when you come back to center that your intuition sharpens that your boundaries become clear that your body can you can like recognize the signals that your body is giving you as this guidance and not as this burden like you know I can this tweak here again going back to like knowing your DNA then you can know what kind of to tweak or to how to support yourself in order to feel your absolute best and your decisions really become from this place of inner wisdom instead of outside pressure.
(14:06 - 19:52)
So I just you know just imagine what your life would look like if you actually let's go ahead and do this let's I want you to picture a movie screen and I just want you to picture what your life looks like now like where are you if your life was a movie where are you within that scene are you the one who's darting back and forth not really connecting with any of your family and friends because you're so busy or are you the one that's one a very background not really saying what you need and what you want or are you the one who's saying words right where it sounds like you're saying what you need and you want but no one's responding and now just imagine what it would look like again you're the observer of your movie with you in it and you're also the director of that movie with you in it where would you place yourself in the movie where would you place your the supporting characters so now you're like the main character where would you place the supporting characters what would they say to you what would you say to them how would this one particular scene end when you start to put yourself in the center everything changes your decision about food and rest and movement and boundaries all become so much clearer you stop outsourcing your health to others to people who don't know you know your body to people who don't really know how to listen when you put yourself at the center you start making choices from your inner compass from your intuition not from guilt or comparison or hustle it has nothing to do with selfishness it's everything to do with sovereignty because i truly believe that when a woman is rooted in herself her presence alone is the medicine not only for her but for everyone she needs just like your dna is yours alone no one on earth has the same combination or variants or expressions or epigenetic possibilities and when you begin to understand that even just a tiny teeny tiny bit it changes how you approach everything what you eat what you supplement what you avoid what you choose or how you choose to heal but remember that even with the most advanced personalized science it won't serve you if you don't bring yourself to the center back to the center time and time and time again because even knowing your genome is just really seeing the map but only you can really navigate that map so i hope that there was something in this episode that really landed with you interestingly enough i recorded a much longer one and then it was so off on many many tangents because i was so hot that that here is this one and i really hope that um that you love this episode as much as i loved creating it for you and if ever you have any questions about your personalized dna testing or support please reach out to me i actually have five slots actually four slots now for a beta program that i'm doing because i'm actually including the genomics this this type of testing into my practice now and so for the first five people i am um you know working really specifically one-on-one with you for the next 90 days in order to really fine tune your health um not only using dna but more than likely we'll be adding different types of peptides in there as well so if that's something that interests you please reach out and i will see you next time
