EPI 79 - Bio-Uniqueness: Why One Size Will Never Fit All
Hi friend — welcome back to The Habit Within! I’m Camille Kinzler, and today we’re continuing our five-part series on reclaiming women’s health from the inside out.
Last week we talked about why you need to be at the center of your own wellness story — not a plan, not a lab, not an expert. And this week, we’re taking it deeper with something I feel so passionate about: bio-uniqueness.
Because here’s the truth — if you’re following a one-size-fits-all plan, even if you’re “doing it right,” you may still end up exhausted, overwhelmed, or wondering why it’s working for your friend but not for you.

Welcome back to the habit with and I'm Camille your host and I am back in a see last week I was recording from my car and he caught so stinking hot Yeah, Texas in September like yes the hundreds keep on coming keep on keep on coming And it really is like, you know, truly the dog days of summer, even though it is starting to be fall other places Anyway, so I am here and we are continuing this five-part series because like, you know, I love this girl loves some series So we are just really reclaiming what women's health should really look like from the inside out I just feel like we kind of have it all wrong and allopathic medicine and even in functional medicine so many So much of the time so just want to like just create a new paradigm So the last episode what we did is we talked about why it was so important for the women for the woman for you to be at the center of your story not some guru or influencer or One lab that is like a snapshot in time that changes even an hour after you take the sample that can change like that quickly and Also, not some protocol, but you you are the center your story your life story What's going on with you? What you have tried is so stinking important and today We're going to dive in Even more to why it's so important That you're the center because even if you are the center It is so important that you follow a plan That's made for your body and your history and your needs Hey a woman because here's the deal if the plan you're following wasn't made for your body your history and your needs Then you're just still gonna feel off. You're not gonna feel like yourself again You're gonna feel like you're spinning your wheels and it's gonna be so Exhausting and so tiring and you're gonna want to give up, you know, why you know how I know because I have been there so today we're gonna really talk about why bio uniqueness is the blueprint why by Uniqueness or precision medicine or whatever you want to call it is so important I mean, we basically live in a world that loves to package health into one size fits all plans Everyone should cut carbs or everyone should eat high protein diet or everyone should take bioidentical hormones or everyone should follow this protocol or and everyone should cycle sync and everyone should buy this supplement and listen Some of these things might work, but only if they're aligned with your unique blueprint I mean this happened all the time when I was prescribing birth control, so when I was first in and practice my focus was primarily on women's health and reproductive health and So I prescribed a lot of birth control pills at the very beginning of my time as a provider the one thing that I saw on a weekly basis is that a Prescription pack of birth control prescribed for one person would not work for the other it would cause severe Side effects for the other person so one patient could be thrilled by having a more steady period less PMS symptoms and No acne and then the other person break out with acne have horrible PMS symptoms gain a bunch of weight on the exact same prescription and so Back then, you know, I'm like, oh god This is really tricky to figure out what medications gonna fit that unique biology however, we didn't really have anything to Help us figure out what medication was complementary to their chemistry until today until now Well, I'm sure it's been around for a while, but I feel like it's more Becoming more available So the frustrating thing about this is that even in wellness circles that claim to be holistic or that are functional medicine providers There's still this underlying assumption that you can follow what the other person is doing to get the same results But that's not really how vitality works, that's really not how these things work and Yeah, so let's just give you an example.
So let's say we have two women We have Lisa and Jess and they're both in their 40s and they're both tired and gaining weight without changing very much of their Exercise or what they're putting in their body and they're both not sleeping. Well, and I start them on the exact same plan. I Tell them to follow this macros diet eat this much protein take these same amount of adaptogens do the same strength program and even take Biogenital hormone replacement therapy the same dose the same prescription basically and guess what? Lisa will start feeling amazing Her skin will be glowing and her sleep is improving and her energy back and these girls are best friends, right? They know each other they're like Attached to the hip but guess what Jess she gets acne her anxiety spikes Her cycles become extremely heavy and you know what Jess is thinking She's thinking that something is wrong with her that she's not doing it, right that she's not doing it enough.
And here's the deal Our bodies are not the same Your body is not a carbon copy of somebody else and when something works is not because you failed we are all Individual and I'm here to say I'm totally guilty of being that provider back in the day even when I knew intuitively like we were talking about and The center, you know, the center is you the woman is at the center we have to go back to our intuition and really check in if something's working or not, I Knew that something wasn't right about this approach of everyone needs fish oil. Everyone needs vitamin D. We should just put statins Which is a Anticholesterol medication in the water, you know, this is the kind of rhetoric This is what I was hearing throughout my time in practice and at that time because I wasn't bold enough to do things differently I would smile politely and I would prescribe the way everybody else was prescribing and then When I was on the other side of the exam table, I would do the same thing you should see the bottles of supplements and herbs and Medications that my husband and I have collected over the years half used Dusty and forgotten thankfully because I intuitively knew that that wasn't right for me It wasn't right for me at the time. And what happens is is that when we start to say well, I don't know I'm always prescribed a medication.
I'm always prescribed a supplement or I'm always prescribed an herb That what happens is is it gets? Saturated then we think that none of them are really gonna work or we're like Oh, I feel guilty because I'm not taking all of them and I don't know which ones will work or which ones won't I? Don't even remember why they were prescribed to me in the first place it's the same with medications and that's a problem when we do this one-size-fits-all approach where everyone needs a certain supplement or everyone's gonna do well in a statin what we find is that as A provider if we see that it doesn't work that it's not lowering cholesterol. For example, then what happens is is The patient feels like something is not going correctly in their own life, right that they're doing something wrong And then the provider actually secretly thinks that maybe the patient isn't compliant isn't taking the medication isn't actually doing the work on their end and When in reality, it's just basically based on their DNA that The medication or the supplement isn't working and luckily we have tests now to be able to match that up but when I was able to really become bold and courageous and step back and say Maybe this plan maybe this gold standard just isn't really right for every single person that's when I had to step away from allopathic medicine and I couldn't really put my finger on why I didn't move towards functional medicine at the time But I know now why it's because it's just more tests and more supplements and more medications just in a different way it just didn't feel quite aligned either and Yeah that got me extremely curious and it made me and allowed me this privilege to really go deeper into what I feel might be more of the solution and that's really when I came to diving into genomics and Peptides were just which basically is amino acids, which basically is just proteins that our bodies make and if hormonal optimization would work and here's the deal is that in order for any sort of Medication that we put on our body even with supplements can help optimize the pathways But really we have to have all of the systems working well from neutral genomics So starting from what we put in our mouth to all the way to the way that our hormones function within our bodies and remember Hormones are more than just sex hormones are more than just estrogen progesterone and testosterone So I haven't only been going deeper this deeper dive just as a practitioner a prescriber Clinician but also as a woman walking this journey alongside of you So I've really been looking into how genomics really reveals how our body is wired to detox metabolize nutrients and process hormones how peptides can really help fine-tune the body's messaging system from repair to regeneration to longevity and how hormones they can help if you actually Create a really good working system within your body Can be so powerful and one thing that keeps coming up is even the best tools only work when they match To you that is why genomics is so incredibly fascinating to me And it's so easy you just swab the inside of your cheek and then you get back hundreds of data points about your own Cellular preferences. It's fascinating yeah, so then it becomes this thing where it's not based on the Populations averages then it becomes really cool because then everything can't becomes prescribed or Suggested based on your actual DNA and not population averages or influencer trends or any of that so the foods and supplements and medications that you take are going to be right for your body and That's gonna help you thrive and it also even is gonna help your body your whole system be less stressed out It is powerful.
It's gonna be such a powerful map. But here's the thing. I always come back to this even with this personalized science You're still the one who has to live it.
You're still at the center because insight does not equal Alignment knowing your gene variant doesn't mean you automatically are going to feel amazing You actually have to put in some of that aligned action and work to get to where you need to go And that's gonna be in next week's episode We're gonna dive into that a little bit deeper, but you'll still have to ask yourself Does this actually make me feel better? am I doing this because I was told to or because somebody said I should because just Because you have a variant on your DNA doesn't mean that it's active doesn't mean that it's expressing itself It just means it could at some time and that's what's so beautiful about it And again, we'll talk about it in next week's episode How when we know this kind of stuff we can empower ourselves to be able to turn off and on these variants at will with the support of potentially supplements or peptides or breath and Meditation and nature and walking outside and all of those beautiful things. So that's why it's so important to check in and Align and Center yourself to your intuition because you can't apply this by uniqueness if you don't have that piece in check as well So let's take a moment and breathe together So if you can just close your eyes or if you're driving, that's fine, too I just want you to paint this picture meaning don't close your eyes if you're driving, but I want you to paint this picture Imagine that you are looking into a mirror and not the One that's judging you not those eyes that are looking back at you judging you but the kind that really reflects the truth And I want you to ask yourself What has my body been trying to tell me lately that I've been overriding with somebody else's protocols Really think about that What is my body been telling me lately that I've been overriding with somebody else's protocols somebody else's input I really check back in and it's not the thing that you feel like you need Or are you so overwhelmed by all the information out there that it's just hard to know And breathe that in and let it land somewhere And then gently remind yourself that you are not behind You're not broken You're just bio unique and isn't that so cool Isn't it so cool that you actually can find The perfect key that you need in order to restore your health and vitality. We're really gonna dive into the third of the pillars Calling it quantum wholeness right now I don't know what it's gonna be called later But around the purpose of your mindset and your energy field and your environment all of that stuff is not separate from your health So even if you put yourself at the center Even if you're really checking in with your intuition Even if you have this DNA Right that tells you all of your different variants what specific medications will work for you and not what supplements will work if Protein diet is better than a high-carb diet. I mean it is all there within your DNA but here's the thing if your mindset if your environment is Separate from who you believe that you could be that you want to be that you are that your DNA even shows you that You are you'll never get to that future version of yourself Because it goes with the identity of who you are right now, which is so beautiful because and give so much validation Your DNA can give you your genomics can give you so much validation and what you're feeling what you've known and maybe been Gaslit or over overridden in some way But it can also allow you to see the points and areas of freedom because then you know if you could turn this certain key That it would turn either on or off the certain variant. It's beautiful.
