EPI 81 - The Ripple Effect of Healing (and How to Start It)
Hi friend — welcome back to The Habit Within! I’m Camille Kinzler, and today we’re wrapping up our series with a conversation that feels so close to my heart: the ripple effect of healing.
Here’s what I’ve learned — symptoms are not your enemy. They’re sacred messengers. And when we shift from seeing them as problems to fix, to signals pointing us toward unmet needs, everything changes. This is what I call root cause reverence. And when we begin to honor those signals, something powerful happens: our own healing ripples outward into our families, our relationships, and our communities.
In this episode, I share:
- Why symptoms are invitations, not punishments
- How epigenetics shows us that our daily choices — not our DNA — write the story of our health
- Why you can’t supplement your way out of self-abandonment (or green juice your way past burnout)
- How focusing on your own healing creates a ripple effect that shifts everyone around you
- A few personal reflections on perimenopause, motherhood, and learning to see my body’s signals with grace instead of frustration
This is not about chasing the next protocol. It’s about listening, slowing down, and remembering that your body is wise — and when you honor that wisdom, you don’t just heal yourself. You inspire everyone around you to rise too.
Big Takeaways:
- Your symptoms are sacred messengers — not your identity.
- Healing at the root cause is holistic — physical, emotional, and relational.
- When you heal, the ripple effect is contagious.
I’d love to hear from you:

The root cause isn't always what you think it is and that is why it's so important to have all of these pillars together Welcome to the habit within this podcast is for high achieving women 35 and older who seem to have it all Together that feel like they're constantly running on fumes Struggling to balance it all and losing sight of the woman they used to be. I'm Camille Kinzler a former physician assistant turned Transformational coach blending science positive psychology and a metaphysical approach to habits health and vitality If you've ever asked yourself, why am I so exhausted even after a full night's sleep or I feel like I'm juggling so much But I'm just barely keeping my head above water. You are in the right place each week we'll explore the real reasons behind feeling overwhelmed trapped in the cycle of overworking and Constantly running low on energy and how to break free from the patterns keeping you stuck in survival mode It's time to stop living on autopilot and to start feeling like yourself again.
Let's dive in. Hello my loves Welcome back to the habit within this is Camille and today we are wrapping up our series We're gonna have pillar four and five together in this one Pillar number four is root cause reverence and pillar number five is the collective ripple so the root cause isn't always what you think it is and that is why it's so important to have all of these pillars to gather and What are those pillars? Let's say that you haven't listened to the ones prior to this. No worries You can always go back and do that later.
You're not gonna miss out on getting the The gym that you need from today's episode So if you've been following this journey from the beginning then or if you haven't, you know that this series has been a complete reframe on how I really want you to think about vitality healing and Women's health and so let's go ahead and briefly very briefly recap that pillar one. We talked about putting the woman Not the plan at the center of the story how important it is for us to return back to our Intuition and what we feel like is working or is not working Pillar number two where we really explore the power of bio uniqueness and how your DNA can hold these clues So you can stop guessing But you can actually empower yourself and be your own interpreter and then pillar number three We touch on what I was calling quantum wholeness, but really how important it is to have To understand how your mindset and your environment and your energy all shape your cells your biology in real time and Today we are going to talk about root cause reverence that your symptoms are not the enemy I know that it can feel that way so often like my poor baby boy. My ten-year-old right now has fever He's fevering.
He hasn't had fevers in a while now, and I know that it is his body Actually healing expressing itself. That's what the body needs to do when it's trying to fight something off in a dramatic way We get fevers. We increase our temperature to kill off any sort of Pathogens so his body is doing exactly what it needs to do even though it's sad to see him sick so there are smoke signals are there for a reason there's an invitation there a clue and He's been running like crazy You know my little one started school and he has been off to the races not having a lot of time just to chill So this is his opportunity his body to slow down.
Actually, it was really cute when he woke up this morning He's like mom how I slept horribly I only I fell asleep at 5 this morning and I was like, why didn't you come and wake me up? So he was probably asleep until 5 But it was really sweet and very and with great awareness He said why do we always get fever at night? and it is interesting because the majority of the time when we end up getting fever we it spikes in the evening and I don't know this for a fact, but just kind of using my medical knowledge I believe it's because that's when our bodies start to heal themselves That's when we rest and that's when our immune response increases. And so potentially that's why we have fevers more at night so I Don't know. Don't quote me on that.
I'll have to look that up but Yeah, but so we are trained from a very very early age to to treat any sort of Illness with a pill and teaching my kids that the healing is our greatest superpower is I feel like one of the greatest gifts that I can give them and not giving them immediately Tylenol ibuprofen to reduce the The response because this response in our body is a normal one Although if he has high fever is going into the evening. I might give him something in order to Sleep if he's if he's not sleeping because he's so uncomfortable But not because he has fever because his fever is actually doing the right thing So yeah, it's so common when we've you know, we have pain we take ibuprofen or Tylenol when we feel anxious We try to numb it in some way if we're gaining weight. We just like cut out an entire food group like Carbohydrates, you know when all of those things are actually really necessary for our body to do its optimal job in a certain way So the question that I really invite you to ask instead is what is the unmet need beneath this signal? Because that's the real question and it can save you years of trying to chase these fixes And I think this is where the beauty of epigenetics really becomes that bridge So let's get something clear the root cause of healing is truly.
It's just it's not a concept It's the commitment to honoring the entire human I believe that when you really look at root cause that is truly a holistic approach to health and this is where epigenetics become such a powerful bridge because Epigenetics is the study of how our behavior our environment our thoughts and our relationships and so forth influence the expression on our genes Of our genes and your DNA might carry this blueprint, but that blueprint is dynamic It isn't your destiny your daily choices are actually the architects, right? Your nervous system is the construction crew and your environment is the terrain the house is built on Okay, so you followed me. So what does this have to do with the root cause? Okay, it has everything to do with it because when you say root cause we're not talking about a lab marker We're talking about the unmet need behind the symptom the pattern that keeps repeating itself time and time and time again the internal narrative that fuels disease The environment that keeps you just regulated in the trauma that has shaped your physiology So I'm going to talk a little bit about some gene variants. Don't worry about these words That I'm going to share with you.
I'm just trying to make a point here Okay, so let's say that you have your DNA done Your genomics test and on the genomics test, which remember genomics test isn't just like a snapshot in time It's that the same thing forever, right? So it's something that you can use your entire life and keep coming back to depending on where you are in your life But let's say a woman is shown to have a sensitivity marker to stress, right? So we know that some people don't have those markers some people do I think it can be very affirming when you're like Oh my gosh, I'm not crazy. I do have an increased sensitivity to stress. It isn't a Get out of jail free card.
It's just a real opportunity and empowerment to say it's not all in my head It's actually within my genes and now I know and I can take these steps to help with that and now let's say that we have a SLC 6a for short allele which could mean that it increases the risk for anxiety and emotional reactivity So there are lots of other types of markers that we can look at and so we could look at this report and say okay, so The let's tie it into their history and we can be like, okay this woman might report anxiety before big events or overwhelmed in crowds or trouble sleeping or recovering from stress or that she feels like always on edge or Even when nothing is really wrong But her labs like the blood labs might be normal and her lifestyle might kind of seem healthy, right everything she's checking all the boxes off, but something still feels really off and here's where that DNA epigenetic lens can really help shift this is we can really help prioritize the nervous system with breathwork and cold plungers and magnesium and I know for myself when I look at My DNA variant and I say and I see that actually this is more supportive to do breathwork and or it can be a tie It can be that bridge or I can be like no wonder Breathwork feels like my medicine because it is or no wonder cold plunges feel like torture to me because it is It's not the way that my nervous system actually likes to engage in relaxation It's an opera beautiful opportunity to be like, okay a methylated b12 or folate or calming adaptogens Would be really supportive in those type of supplements actually process well in her body and that's beautiful, right? Because it's empowering you can come back to yourself. You feel like you have the whole story But here's the catch and here's where root cause is important If you only focus on the gene and the pill of the plan, it's still an allopathic Disguise, right? It's even functional medicine disguise, right you You can't supplement your way out of self-abandonment y'all you can't cold plunge your way through Emotional disconnection and you can't green juice your way past some sort of chronic Overgiving, you know perfectionism state. You can't that's the root and so what this truly means to get to the root is It's not just about getting more lab tests done or taking more supplements or following the right protocol It's about asking what story am I living that is no longer true what unmet need have I been ignoring? What part of me have I been overriding to keep everyone else happy until we start really asking those questions.
We're just Whack-a-moling the symptoms right and listen, I've totally been there I feel like I was there even quite frankly recently once again until I was like pop back into my awareness when I stopped Running on autopilot when I stopped being in this trance in life and started kind of stepping back and say hey I'm the director of this film then I was able to kind of snap out of it But as a clinician, you know, I've mentioned this before that I used to be really skeptical of everyone needs fish oil Everyone needs vitamin E. Everyone needs statins y'all you should see the supplement cabinet in her house It's been collecting quite a few and yeah I mean, like I said, like I mentioned this last time and even when I did prescribe something and I didn't see results that I expected to lower cholesterol or whatever, it might be lower high blood pressure or Or decrease anxiety. I didn't see it actually helping the patient and the patient still felt awful. I felt horrible I felt like I was doing something wrong.
I felt like they were doing something wrong I felt like actually maybe they weren't following the plan at all But the real question is and that's the question that's really hard to ask in a setting like that is what could be the root cause Not necessarily, you know, we could look at a genetic marker for the root cause of cholesterol for sure and we can notice that maybe all of the Nuts that you're eating your body actually doesn't process doesn't really like the those types of fats And so that's actually keeping your cholesterol high But it also could be something where your body doesn't process these things as well But back to what we were speaking about before when we're looking at these mood markers on genetics It can tell us how this particular That your body is more sensitive to certain stressors But it doesn't actually tell us what that root stressor was And it doesn't mean that we have to go back and pull it up and look at it and examine it But it is something that we might need to do more somatic practices for it to work out of our bodies Because if we're holding on to that no amount of supplement no amount of peptide No amount of anything is going to help us actually move the needle So I hope that all makes sense to you and I'm going to connect pillar 5 here. It's the ripple effect It's this collective ripple because here is such the beautiful part and the part I believe so well the part that I've seen in my own life when I change when I focus on myself It truly heals the people around me and when you heal everything else shifts around you You will change the world you'll change your family. You'll change your friends.
You'll change your co-workers You'll change everyone if you focus on what is true to you and you're not doing this work just for yourself It is not self-centered. It is not selfish You're doing it for these next generation and even if you don't have kids you're doing it for other types of relationships But if you do have kids, they are going to learn what emotional regulation really looks like through your nervous system because when you can really Uncover what truly makes you uniquely you not only by looking at your DNA But by looking at your stories and by looking at the root cause and by really putting you at the center And when you can take these steps to feel vital and whole again They will see it. They will learn it your relationships will deepen when you feel safer in your body and your Community will benefit from your glow and grow and your clarity and your boundaries.
Okay, this is the ripple effect healing is Contagious and when one woman claims her energy back other women notice and they rise to they start asking questions They start getting curious. They give themselves permission to be themselves That's why this isn't self-indulgent. Okay, this is a true public service.
This is a public service announcement a PSA So I want you to take a deep breath with me and place a hand on your heart and I want you to ask yourself What is the one symptom that you've been trying to fix? That might actually be trying to teach you something Just write that down Then ask what's the story That you believe about your symptoms What have you been told in the past? And then maybe ask like what part of you actually needs to be witnessed right now and not silence What does that symptom really want to say if it had a voice? Let it speak. Let your inner wisdom come through. I think that when I was looking at my Hormonal changes I started perimenopause eight years ago and I mentioned this in one of the past episodes is that based on my medical history in my intuition I'm not quite at the point where taking a bioidentical hormone supplement feels aligned And so I have had this really unique opportunity to sit in the hormonal Rollercoaster of it all and what I think that it's taught me is that of course we change I'm at a different place in my life than I was before As a mother as a woman as a provider as a partner as a lover as all of those things There's some things I want to hold on to and I'm gonna kick and scream for it Particularly, you know, the desire to be intimate with my partner is like really important to me That connection I feel is so, you know, so beautiful and and pleasurable And then there are other parts where I'm like, okay, I think I can I think it's okay to release these and And if I wouldn't have had the opportunity to really like dive deeper also recognizing that Taking a bioidentical hormone replacement isn't actually it's a band-aid.
It actually there. There's a whole system before it that I need to really pay attention to if I want true longevity in my life and Vitality in my life and happiness and And so yeah, I've I've really am Thankful that I've had this opportunity this space to really create grace in my life So I'd love to know what some of your symptoms are telling you All right. So yeah, I believe that symptoms are sacred messengers and they're not always your enemy Very rarely are they and they're not random and they're not part of your identity Which please let me hear you.
Let me say that again. So you hear it. Your symptoms are not you.
They're not your identity and the root cause is often less about Some physical trigger. It's more about this emotional energetic or Maybe relationship need that's been left undressed Unaddressed for way too long. So yeah, say yes, like let's get your genes tested.
Let's optimize those hormones Let's get you working with a practitioner. It sees the whole picture but above all I need you I Implore you if this speaks to you at all is to return to your center Listen to your body's language and remember you are never broken You are just ready to stop treating symptoms like problems, right? You want to start honoring that map the map that is yours? so feel free reach out to me if If You yeah would like to to find out more about genomics if you want to find out more about your own personalized blueprint your vitality map and If this spoke to you, please share it with other people and yeah next week I'm gonna share the top 10 shifts I made during my spiritual awakening or life evolution or whatever you want to call it where I shifted from Complete burnout and self-abandonment Drinking too much and all of that stuff to really alignment vitality and flow and I'll share the top 10 things that I did And why I wanted to share it why that episode came to mind Yeah, hope you enjoyed and this episode as much as I enjoyed making it for you rise woman rise The world needs the vibrance and wisdom of a woman's intuition to help heal the world When we learn to trust ourselves through leaning into and through discomfort We learn to trust ourselves and in that space is our power and clarity
