Bibliocracy Radio: John Bellamy Foster on Einstein's "Why Socialism?"
My guest this week is the writer and Monthly Review editor John Bellamy Foster on his work in helping Monthly Review Press republish the classic Albert Einstein political essay “Why Socialism?” It’s available now in a gorgeous small book featuring an introduction by Foster and an earlier essay by John J. Simon. Albert Einstein’s “Why Socialism?”: The Enduring Relevance of His Classic Essay explains and contextualizes a forgotten history and celebrates the renowned scientist as a political radical, peace and justice activist, and public intellectual whose commitments are generally ignored or often misrepresented. “I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.” - Albert Einstein
