[00:00:00] Speaking of brilliant women, Tavia Rogerson and I recently met at a workshop for entrepreneurs. I loved her energy and we immediately clicked. Tavia comes from a corporate background and has shifted to become an entrepreneur. She supports families and mostly women in finding healthy and more affordable solutions for their home and family needs.

[00:00:57] Penny Fitzgerald: We discuss following your dreams and shifting your business and goals as your priorities change. And Tavia shares some tips for being more productive when you work for yourself. And a few tips for entertaining. Here is Tavia Rogerson. Hello.

[00:01:17] Tavia Rogerson: Hello.

[00:01:19] Penny Fitzgerald: How are you?

[00:01:21] Tavia Rogerson: I'm good. How are you?

[00:01:22] Penny Fitzgerald: I'm great. Good to see you

[00:01:26] Tavia Rogerson: too. Happy belated birthday. Oh, gosh, thank you. You were the 8th, right? I was the 9th.

[00:01:32] Penny Fitzgerald: First, the 1st of November,

[00:01:36] Tavia Rogerson: I was the 9th. Okay.

[00:01:38] Penny Fitzgerald: Happy birthday.

[00:01:40] Tavia Rogerson: Yeah, we stopped all month. How about you? Oh, yeah. Why not? I agree. It's great.

[00:01:48] Penny Fitzgerald: Perfect.

[00:01:49] Perfect. Before we get too far. It's do you pronounce your name? Tavia? Yes. Correct. Okay. Wonderful. Well, it's great to have you on. I'm so grateful to talk with you and learn more about what you do and share it with my people. Absolutely. Absolutely. For sure. And you're a Sarasota person too, right? You live in Sarasota.

[00:02:09] Only for three years, but

[00:02:10] Tavia Rogerson: yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:02:13] Penny Fitzgerald: Very good. Well, again, we're part time down there and have had our home for almost eight years now. So

[00:02:20] Tavia Rogerson: where, where is the rest of your time spent?

[00:02:24] Penny Fitzgerald: I am in Iowa right now in Eastern Iowa. So yeah, it's a little cold.

[00:02:29] Tavia Rogerson: It's cold down here. I don't know if you've been seeing the report.

[00:02:33] Penny Fitzgerald: I thought it looked a little, um, it's

[00:02:37] Tavia Rogerson: brisk. Yeah. It's supposed to be the coldest night tonight. And then tomorrow, my husband just called me and said that all the landscapers are covering plants and flowers with like tarps because we have frost this morning. There was frost on our roof and frost all over the grass.

[00:02:55] Oh, you're kidding. It's wild. It's very chilly. Yes,

[00:02:59] Penny Fitzgerald: that's on. Okay. What was the

[00:03:00] Tavia Rogerson: temperature

[00:03:01] Penny Fitzgerald: then?

[00:03:02] Tavia Rogerson: So I woke up yesterday. It was 38 degrees. This morning was 43 and tomorrow is supposed to be like in the 30s.

[00:03:13] Penny Fitzgerald: Oh, wow. That's not good for palm trees and it's not good for

[00:03:18] Tavia Rogerson: me. It's not cool. I'm chilly. I have like, I pulled out my heavy duty like robe last night.

[00:03:25] My, I have my fur slippers on. It's, it's, yeah, it's challenging. So, and I'm Canadian. So like, I should be used to this and I am not at all.

[00:03:35] Penny Fitzgerald: Well, it's, it's shocking to me how quickly your blood thins and how you get used to that heat. Yeah.

[00:03:41] Tavia Rogerson: Yes, we adjust very quickly.

[00:03:44] Penny Fitzgerald: It's harder to adjust to cold.

[00:03:47] Tavia Rogerson: It is, I know, but I refuse to turn the heat on.

[00:03:51] So I'm just going to layer up and we'll be fine. Okay.

[00:03:56] Penny Fitzgerald: Yeah. Yeah. Do you have any dogs or cats that can lay on your lap?

[00:04:00] Tavia Rogerson: I do. She's little though, but she's also wearing a sweater.

[00:04:06] She's like, oh my gosh, it's actually funny. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. So, so fill me in. So what, tell me, tell me all everything. Tell me what you want to

[00:04:17] Penny Fitzgerald: cover today and Oh gosh, yeah, we'll just have a conversation and have fun. We'll get to know each other a little bit and Okay. Um, yeah, I, I just really like to ask questions and get super curious about what you do and What lights you up about it?

[00:04:31] How, you're a Melaleuca representative, is that correct? What do you, what do you call yourself?

[00:04:36] Tavia Rogerson: So, I mean, I'm, I'm an independent marketing executive, which sounds really fancy. Um, basically I just say I'm self employed. I'm in partnership with an online Green Shopping Club. It's, oh my gosh, they've been around for 40 years, but basically, uh, one stop shop to grab everything you need, and especially right now, at a, just a big savings.

[00:04:59] So that's kind of a huge advocate of saving money. buying North American made products and, um, right to your door. Cause we all have really crazy, busy lifestyles and travel and all this stuff. So I'm all about the convenience as well. So that's what I think.

[00:05:16] Penny Fitzgerald: That's cool. Okay. So you mentioned, you said about saving money, especially right now.

[00:05:21] Um, is there a, uh, Program or something going on a savings, um, coupon or what?

[00:05:27] Tavia Rogerson: No question. I just find, um, just in general, cause I mean the holidays, I think I saw a stack two days ago where, um, I, well, actually I just saw it on LinkedIn two days ago. Yeah. Where, uh, online shopping for black Friday is at an all time high.

[00:05:41] Like retailers are just so excited that people are just making this money, but. you know, where are people getting this money from? Because, you know, the cost of living has gone up. Everything is high. Everything is crazy expensive. Um, and so people go into a lot of debt over the holidays. So, you know, I just love showing people, you know, when you cut out that middleman, that big retailer, and you buy directly from the factory and the source, and especially having it here in the U.

[00:06:07] S., You cut so many costs. So people just find that by shopping at the store, they just end up saving a lot of money. So I just love to help people swap where they shop and just save along the way on their day to day essentials.

[00:06:20] Penny Fitzgerald: Okay, cool. Nice. Okay. So how long have you been doing this?

[00:06:24] Tavia Rogerson: Uh, five years.

[00:06:26] Penny Fitzgerald: Five years.

[00:06:26] Okay. What did you, what were you, were you in corporate America? What did you do before that?

[00:06:31] Tavia Rogerson: I was in corporate Canada.

[00:06:32] Penny Fitzgerald: Corporate Canada. Yeah.

[00:06:34] Tavia Rogerson: Yes, I was in corporate Canada for 20 years. I worked in importing, exporting, and marketing. So I worked with, um, a lot of different brands. We kind of were the Canadian licensee of a lot of different brands.

[00:06:46] So it brought me really all over the world, which was fun and exciting and, um, lots of different experiences. But, uh, you know, I always say when you have kids, I have two girls now they're 14 and 11, you know, your priorities really shift, you know? So I remember one of my My, not my last, but as I was nearing the birth of my first daughter, that would have been 14 years ago, I was in the dream job.

[00:07:14] I traveled all over the world. I was in leather goods, fashion. That's my background. And I remember that posting for that role said, must be willing to travel. I think it was like 43. I had a 52 weeks of the year and I had no kids. So I was like, Oh yeah, this would be great. This will be

[00:07:33] Penny Fitzgerald: great as a single person.

[00:07:35] And

[00:07:36] Tavia Rogerson: then it, but it changes, you know, I, I had a choice, um, you know, to be like everybody else on the corporate staff, they all had nannies raising their kids and I just didn't want that. So I always say that it's like the most. Unselfish thing I ever did, um, was saying, okay, my time here is done and then, cause I really, I wanted to be a present mom, but my career was still really important to me.

[00:08:00] So I ended up finding something that worked a little bit better for my lifestyle still in corporate, but, you know, didn't require me to travel that much. And I could still be. you know, home with my family a lot. So yeah, it was sort of like the start of progression into being self employed. I kind of like started to weed my way down a little bit from the demands of the corporate lifestyle and ultimately then, you know, doing what I'm doing now.

[00:08:22] So

[00:08:23] Penny Fitzgerald: nice.

[00:08:24] Tavia Rogerson: Yeah.

[00:08:24] Penny Fitzgerald: Yeah. That's a, it's a big shift, but your priorities do change and your values. It's, you know, you, you gotta be true to your soul.

[00:08:34] Tavia Rogerson: Absolutely. Yeah. Absolutely. It's a big deal. Money is not everything. Your happiness really is. So,

[00:08:40] Penny Fitzgerald: yeah. Well, and for a while, you know, the travel is exciting and doing things that, you know, you're, you're contributing to your corporate job and you feel valuable and you're fulfilled in it, but that's great for a season.

[00:08:54] And then something else is a dream, a new dream comes into focus.

[00:08:59] Tavia Rogerson: Right. That's right. I just remember looking outside of like the corporate window, you know, and I would travel to work. I would travel back. I was always commuting because I worked in bigger cities and thinking there's just got to be more to life than this.

[00:09:12] Like that was the overwhelming feeling I had because I had the team, I had the parking spot, you know, I had the income, but I was missing something real. And I didn't know what it was. I just thought I can't imagine doing this until I'm. You know, 65 years old, you know, it just felt really daunting even back then, you know, so I knew that there was something else out there for me.

[00:09:35] Penny Fitzgerald: Yeah. A lot of those things are, you know, those perks are fun, but kind of vanity driven or ego driven.

[00:09:43] Tavia Rogerson: Yes.

[00:09:43] Penny Fitzgerald: Yes. The title. Yeah. I've been in corporate too and remember feeling, Oh, I've got the title, you know? Yeah. Here's some more work.

[00:09:52] Tavia Rogerson: Exactly. Exactly. And the realization that hits you when you're thinking, where do I go from here?

[00:09:57] And it's, that's great that they're dangling a promotion, but what is that? What sacrifice is that going to require of me? Right. Because there's always, right. So it's just weighing out. Perfect. Bye. you know, the season and what things are most important to you. And so,

[00:10:13] Penny Fitzgerald: yeah, well, even being self employed or your own boss, it's, um, just, I, joke that, you know, some days I'm a really good boss and

[00:10:21] Tavia Rogerson: other days I'm kind of hardcore.

[00:10:24] Right. Absolutely. No, for sure. It's, it's, that's the thing. It's, um, you have to be very disciplined because you're not reporting into anybody. Checking to see if you did the task of the day, you know, um, Yeah, so it's a different, it's a different dynamic and I always tell people when they make that shift when they go from working for somebody else and then starting to work for themselves.

[00:10:49] It's like, okay, scheduling and getting on a, on a daily, like, to do is a routine is very, very important. Because if you don't. You know, before you know it, I mean, my kids, I'm going to pick them up in a couple of hours and then, you know, you start the household duties and things like that. So you'll get very sidetracked throughout the day, load a lot, making some, you know, you're pre making your dinner, whatever it is, if you're not really focused and disciplined on, you know, what you need to get done, right?

[00:11:16] Penny Fitzgerald: Yeah. Well, and it's easy to get sidetracked by the tasks that are easy to do or that they have to get done so that you can focus more on the bigger things, but it's the bigger things that move the needle.

[00:11:27] Tavia Rogerson: That's right. Yeah. So

[00:11:28] Penny Fitzgerald: even taking a couple of steps towards those big things is more important than checking off the big things.

[00:11:33] the little tasks.

[00:11:34] Tavia Rogerson: No, you're absolutely right. I've, and I find that even myself, it's, uh, I like to call them income producing activities.

[00:11:40] Penny Fitzgerald: Yes, IPAs.

[00:11:41] Tavia Rogerson: Right? So sometimes we, we get busy doing the things that we like to do, but they're not necessarily the income producing activities, right? So, but you know, you can't forget why you do what you do.

[00:11:52] So you have to find joy in it. You have to find, if you don't, you're not going to do it. Right. So figure out what that is and what that looks like. And, um, Yeah, you're right. And just, I'm a big, I'm a big list person. So I, I don't know. It's satisfying. It is. You know, it can be the most minor thing. I paid that bill today.

[00:12:13] Cross it off.

[00:12:13] Penny Fitzgerald: I'm

[00:12:14] Tavia Rogerson: like, yes, I got that done. You know? Um, otherwise, like I said, the day is just poof gone and the month is gone and nothing's changed. Right. So, yeah,

[00:12:24] Penny Fitzgerald: exactly. Yeah. I do a lot of, um, like in my coaching and. Mentoring and do a lot of that to where, you know, who do you need to be to get where you want to go and what it was important to your values?

[00:12:36] Who do you need to be first? And that encourage that focusing on that will shift your behaviors into being and doing the things that gets you to where you want to go. So that's

[00:12:47] Tavia Rogerson: right. Yeah. No. And one of, um, a great piece of advice that I share all the time. Someone shared it with me was you can't be upset with, with the results you didn't get for the work you did put in.

[00:13:00] Right.

[00:13:00] Penny Fitzgerald: Yeah.

[00:13:01] Tavia Rogerson: I think that's so powerful. Cause so many times, you know, like I said, the month will be done or things will be done and you're, I thought I'd be further ahead or I thought I would have this done, but did you actually put the work in to get, um, Results, right? Yeah. So, um, just, you know, things to keep in mind.

[00:13:17] And would you hire, you know, that's the thing too. Would you hire yourself if you were watching your work ethic and your daily activities? And would you hire yourself, right?

[00:13:28] Penny Fitzgerald: Yeah. Well, and it's not necessarily about working harder or doing more just because you don't get a badge for that .

[00:13:36] Tavia Rogerson: No, no, no.

[00:13:37] Efficiency. But I also feel too, like as you get older. I know for me, especially like you just prioritize things differently, like what we were talking about at the beginning. So like, you know, my morning routine is really important to me. Obviously I get up early and get them going, but, um, I like to work out.

[00:13:56] I like to be active. So that's, that's a, that's a must. You know, those are like the non negotiable. So getting that done in the morning and, um, You know, and then being done by a certain time. And it's just, you know, if you can look and say, okay, I got done what I need to do, or, you know, just organize it a little bit better, more efficiently.

[00:14:13] It's not about running yourself ragged, but it's, it's finding that balance where, um, you're at peace, you're finding enjoyment, you're finding fulfillment, but you still feel productive. It's very different from a corporate practice. Mindset mine anyways. Yeah. Yeah,

[00:14:28] Penny Fitzgerald: absolutely. It's you get used to, if you've been working in corporate, you get used to that.

[00:14:32] Okay. Clock in now. And I show up at my desk and I'm here's what I do, but yeah, you, you really have to, I feel like you have to really take care of yourself first.

[00:14:43] Tavia Rogerson: You do.

[00:14:44] Penny Fitzgerald: Yeah. Your health, your physical and mental health and emotional, like to be in a good place so that you can, if you're happy, you know, um, You know, if you're taking care of your emotional well being and you feel great and confident, you can get a lot done in a short amount of time.

[00:15:04] One thing I hear from female entrepreneurs all the time is that they don't want to feel salesy. They don't want to bug their friends and family. And they don't want to hustle and grind for sales. They may have received some bad advice telling them to post more on social media. So they post, and they post, and they post.

[00:15:26] And that doesn't feel good. So they either stop, Are inconsistent or don't convey the right message. I'm Penny Fitzgerald and I've been training women entrepreneurs for more than 18 years, leading one of the top three direct selling teams in my former company. And now I'm providing my proven language systems and tools that will help you serve your customers rather than feel like you're selling or like you're constantly working.

[00:15:51] I've put together a three day free live event to teach female entrepreneurs a radically different way of running your business. So it's not running you, a way of doing business that's in service of others. One you can be proud of, where your customers will love you, and one that helps you reach your goals.

[00:16:09] I'm holding this event starting on Monday, January 6th at 1 p. m. Eastern Time via Zoom. You can save your spot by going to my website that's pennyfoyourshots. com and click the green button at the top labeled Save My Spot. or just text the word serve to 319 448 3545. And I'll text you back that direct link.

[00:16:33] This course is normally 297, but I'm offering it to you for free. Don't miss your opportunity to shift your business from selling to serving. I hope you'll join me, and I can't wait to toast to your success. Cheers.

[00:16:50] Tavia Rogerson: Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. It's, I, I like to say that's kind of been like your flow zone, right? It's just come easily and it's just fun and it's, it's, that's where the joy comes from versus like the having to do something, you know, that's why I chose, what I do because I wanted to have the, I didn't ever want to have to, I always wanted to do it because I wanted to, you know what I mean?

[00:17:17] Which is comes with a very different energy as well. So

[00:17:20] Penny Fitzgerald: absolutely.

[00:17:21] Tavia Rogerson: You don't have to show up to the office day. You don't have to sit in traffic today. Like, you know, it's not, and I don't want to do those things. So I don't, I don't, you know, you get to choose, you get to choose your day and time. I'm freedom is very, very important to me.

[00:17:36] That's why I wanted to, um, I've always wanted to be self employed, but. I didn't want a business to own me. So I, little fun fact, I always wanted to have a boutique or, you know, cause my background is in fashion and important like that. So I wanted a boutique and, um, or I could sort of, you know, be a stylist and help people.

[00:17:56] And I just love shopping with people and things like that. But I was so terrified of the business owning me and, you know, living there 24 seven and be doing the windows in the middle of the night. All those types of things. And I just never wanted that, you know, even when I was 24 years old, out of, you know, university, um, I knew how important it was to own my own time.

[00:18:19] I just didn't quite know how to do it at that point. Because you're right. It's not about the hours that you put in. It's how efficient you can be and really just get done. You know, how to prioritize, I guess, uh, more effectively. So, um, and be able to, to enjoy all the things. I mean, we're not here for a long time.

[00:18:37] We're here for a short time. So, things that are, that are most important to you.

[00:18:41] Penny Fitzgerald: Yeah, to make an impact, to serve others. Yeah.

[00:18:45] Tavia Rogerson: Absolutely. Yeah, for sure. With the, the hurricane here, I mean, we had multiple. This year was weird, right? It was very weird. But, um, yeah, that was, that was so great. You know, the kids and I, the kids were off school, obviously, and then we were able to, um, work in the community and volunteer at the church and things like that.

[00:19:04] And, um, those are the things like it's, it's the. Um, because kids watch us, you know, they're, they're watching these and, um, and I, and I had the flexibility to be able to do that and to drop what I was doing,

[00:19:16] Penny Fitzgerald: make

[00:19:16] Tavia Rogerson: them and, you know, if I was working somewhere else, I, I wouldn't probably have that. Right. So,

[00:19:22] Penny Fitzgerald: well, this time of year in the holidays, if you were working retail.

[00:19:26] We probably wouldn't see you again until January.

[00:19:28] Tavia Rogerson: That's right. Absolutely. Absolutely.

[00:19:31] Penny Fitzgerald: Yeah. I remember retail hours too.

[00:19:34] Tavia Rogerson: Oh yeah. I was in, uh, I worked in, um, uh, I was in the office. I was a buyer and on, on the day after Christmas when Canada, we call that boxing day. I still haven't figured it out. We call that here in the States.

[00:19:46] I think it's just the, the day after Christmas. I don't really know, but that was like the biggest day of the year in Canada. And you know, normally that would be a day where we would wanna go shopping with our own family and wake up early and go to the mall and things like that. Um, stand in lines and all that.

[00:20:02] Not fun stuff. , but I always had to work, I had to go do . Yeah. And you know, it was just, I remember thinking, oh, I don't wanna be doing this, you know? Mm-Hmm. .

[00:20:12] Penny Fitzgerald: My family is out having lunch together right now and yeah, right,

[00:20:16] Tavia Rogerson: right. So,

[00:20:19] Penny Fitzgerald: yeah, I mean, there are give and takes in every business,

[00:20:23] Tavia Rogerson: absolutely.

[00:20:23] Penny Fitzgerald: But choose your give and choose your take when you're,

[00:20:27] Tavia Rogerson: there's something for everyone.

[00:20:28] So something for everyone. You just gotta have to find what that is. So,

[00:20:33] Penny Fitzgerald: right. Wow. Cool. Okay. So five years ago you started, um, with Melaleuca.

[00:20:39] Tavia Rogerson: Yes. And

[00:20:40] Penny Fitzgerald: Tell me a little bit about, you know, what, what do you love the most about it? I mean, you've kind of shared a little bit, but what's your favorite thing to do?

[00:20:48] Tavia Rogerson: I mean, I love, and I think that moving from one country to another, I mean, I've always been, I It's funny. People think I'm really extroverted. Um, I'm either on or I'm off. Like I'm, I'm the middle ground for me. Um, but coming here, you know, I was really for, I didn't have any friends. I didn't have any family.

[00:21:08] I just had my husband and my two kids. So, um, networking and meeting other people became a huge piece of not only what I did professionally, but just what I needed on a personal level, right? I just needed community. So, you know, I think for me, um, the people, you know, I think the people are the best part.

[00:21:28] Honestly, the, um, when you have a great service and a product to offer people, it naturally comes up in conversation. It's just easy. It's a really easy fit to just talk to people. And, um, I just, I'm like you, I love hearing people's stories. I love, love, love connecting people. So again, being in this, in this environment here, everyone sort of came, you know, after 2020, everyone sort of flooded down here.

[00:21:59] So you get everybody from every state, every country. Um, it's just, people are really just hungry for community, I find. And not even just here, but just everywhere. all over the world, I would say, with everything that happened, but I just love that. You know, I'll meet somebody and I'll find out what they do.

[00:22:15] And I'm like, Oh, I need to introduce you to so and so, you know what I mean? Because I think as women, we're just, we're natural networkers. We love to share things that we love. We, I'm, there's just such a satisfaction that comes from, you know, for me anyways, when you can help somebody, when you can be a resource for somebody.

[00:22:32] So I would say the people, the people is definitely the best part for me. Um, I've always wanted a community of like minded women around me. Uh, again, it always goes back to corporate too, but, and, and listen, there's a lot of great things with corporate, but there's, there's some people who love their jobs and there's a lot of people who are counting down retirement, you know, you kind of get both.

[00:22:54] And I never found it motivating to be around people who were like, 10 more years. I got 10 years, you know, I'd love to tell the story of basically all my friends back home and family or teachers back home in Canada. teachers are paid really, really well in Canada and they have great jobs. You know, they really do healthcare, all the things, but you know, it's funny cause they're all counting down cause it's a high stress job.

[00:23:22] It absolutely,

[00:23:23] Penny Fitzgerald: just

[00:23:24] Tavia Rogerson: like it is here. But I mean, you'll get, and my husband gets it or got it too when he was, um, corporate in Canada, but you'll get, you know, a quarterly update that'll tell you the day that you can retire. Right. And so literally I would have. People who's like, yep, this date, this is the date we're retiring.

[00:23:43] And I don't know, but that's. Not exciting to me. I, because retire, I, you shouldn't have to retire. You know what I mean? Like that's, then what, what do you do? Like you should be, none of us are promised tomorrow. So I'm getting off topic and on a tangent. No, this is good.

[00:24:01] Penny Fitzgerald: This is good stuff.

[00:24:03] Tavia Rogerson: So my mindset is like, do the things that you want to do now.

[00:24:07] My motto is live without regrets and not that I, you know, want you to go into debt, to do crazy things, whatever, but like, We don't know how long we have and hopefully our health is, you know, gonna provide until, you know, until it's our time. But I just, I'm very much about make the most out of what you have now.

[00:24:29] So, um, yeah. And I don't know how that started, I love about what I do, but it's people and it's community. And my vision is back to like minded women, having similar minded people around you, positive mindsets, hungry for a great life, you know, they just, They just believe in themselves and they really just want to make a massive impact, not only for them, but that ripple effect on others.

[00:24:57] And so that's what I love. I love bringing women together, community together, um, just hearing people's stories, finding out, you know, How they came to be and doing what I do just allows me to do that. I do that from, you know, connecting people to just overall wellness with the store. But then, you know, there's a huge referral program attached that I really get to work one on one.

[00:25:20] I work with everybody, but really women. Um, I love working with working moms. You know, you're most powerfully positioned to help the person you once were, right? So people who have similar situations of, yeah, I was working crazy hours or I was commuting, or I was traveling constantly and I just, I just didn't want it anymore, you know?

[00:25:40] And so I love just showing people a different way as well. And just given that, that spark back and that hope, you lose it sometimes depending your product of your environment. If you're not in a positive, Work environment, home environment, you definitely can lose that spark, right?

[00:25:58] Penny Fitzgerald: Well, and you've, I'm sure you've heard this too, that you're, you kind of become like the five people you spend the most time with.

[00:26:04] So yeah, if you're around a negative energy, energy seeks energy like energy. So, you know, if you're around people who are negative or looking forward to a retirement. it wears on you, you know, it's hard to keep a positive outlook.

[00:26:20] Tavia Rogerson: Yeah. That whole living for the weekend mindset and like that, you know, um, it's unfortunate because you know, the world that we work in and the hours and the demands of, of careers, you know, that's, that's what's forced upon people.

[00:26:34] I, I feel like 2020 changed a lot for people and, um, And they just people just started to really prioritize what was important to them. So it's very refreshing. You know, you'll hear a lot of people did sort of a mass Exodus. Um, a lot of people started working remotely and they just started to really shift with what was important to them.

[00:26:55] You know, a lot of people started to put their family first. Um, so I love that. I get behind all of that. Yeah.

[00:27:01] Penny Fitzgerald: Yeah. Well, and how interesting that it takes something that big to shift to putting your family first and not working all the time. I mean, yeah, there are a lot of employees. I used to be one that would.

[00:27:16] You know, go in early and stay late and that was me. Yeah, it's

[00:27:22] Tavia Rogerson: yeah.

[00:27:22] Penny Fitzgerald: Well, and I still work. I don't know. It's it's weird because I'm working for us now, you know, it's different.

[00:27:30] Tavia Rogerson: Yeah, it's different. You don't and you almost don't mind putting in. Time when you need it because you can also take the rest when you need it.

[00:27:38] Right. So it's,

[00:27:39] Penny Fitzgerald: yeah,

[00:27:40] Tavia Rogerson: you're in control. It all goes back to your time, right? Yeah. You time and look at you between, I don't know your story, but um, you know, it sounds like you have location freedom so you can go Yeah. Back and forth and that was what I wanted. I wanted time. location and financial freedom.

[00:27:56] Those are the main pillars that were the most important to me. And that's how we were able to move from Canada to the U. S. because I can work anywhere in the world as long as I have, you know, my phone and, and my, can work and obviously challenging with the kids. So, you know, can't, can't go back and forth too much, but, um, I, I wanted that.

[00:28:16] I thought that that was really in store instead of being stuck and anchored to, to one place.

[00:28:23] Penny Fitzgerald: Yeah. Do you, do you go back and forth to Canada?

[00:28:25] Tavia Rogerson: I do. I do. We don't have a home there anymore, but, um, all of our family and friends do. So yeah, we usually back there for a couple of weeks in the summer and, um, and then throughout the year, you know, we have

[00:28:38] Penny Fitzgerald: family

[00:28:39] Tavia Rogerson: holidays and things like that.

[00:28:40] Penny Fitzgerald: Nice.

[00:28:41] Tavia Rogerson: It's a short flight and. You know, so it's pretty easy.

[00:28:45] Penny Fitzgerald: That's awesome. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So getting back to When you're working for the weekend.

[00:28:53] How great an employee are you? How many great creative ideas are you having and what are you contributing?

[00:28:58] Tavia Rogerson: It's so true. It's so true. And there's been studies that have come out of it where, um, you know, employees that have the remote option, you know, even three days a week remote, two days in, they are more efficient.

[00:29:13] They really are more efficient, right? So it's, it's, again, it's that balance what people are looking for. Um, I mean, I remember with me and I know with so many others, you have to choose, right? For me, I missed how many Christmas concerts after school that I missed because I'd be stuck. And I mean, that doesn't make for a happy employee.

[00:29:32] Penny Fitzgerald: No.

[00:29:33] Tavia Rogerson: And, um, yeah, so it's just things are different now. And I think companies are catching on to it, which is, you know, Really, really important. That's

[00:29:43] Penny Fitzgerald: great. Yeah. Well, the other thing you mentioned too was you, um, are people think you're an extrovert and, but when you're on, you're on, when you're not, you're down.

[00:29:53] That's so important too, to have that balance, to be able to, okay, I need to recharge. I need to fill my cup so that I have more to give.

[00:30:02] Tavia Rogerson: For sure. And, and it's easy going back to what we said about entrepreneurship. It's easy to work seven days a week, right? It's just easy because you know, it's, it doesn't feel like work typically because you're doing something that you love.

[00:30:15] Um, but I think to the longer that we're in it, I mean, I do definitely have boundaries and, um, you know, I won't do things on certain times, you know, obviously I do what I need to do on weekends, but I mean, really weekends are for my family. So, and it, and it's funny. you know, especially down here to your circle.

[00:30:34] So I had a little get together. People are always asking me about the store and to share things. Um, and so I said, yeah, I'm going to have everybody over. I think I originally booked it on a Sunday afternoon so my people can go to church, you know, breakfast, all that kind of stuff. And then Sunday afternoon and my circle, my entire network here, they're pretty much entrepreneurs.

[00:30:55] And, and it was a great reminder. They're like, Oh, you know what? During the week is way better. You know, weekends kind of like. We don't really touch our phones and we're just kind of present with the kids and the family. And I'm like, yeah, you're absolutely right. And then, so I ended up booking something for a Monday morning, 10 AM instead.

[00:31:11] Penny Fitzgerald: Oh, nice.

[00:31:12] Tavia Rogerson: It was like standing room only. So it's just like you, I love how people are shifting and prioritizing thing differently, you know, because I mean, my kids, I don't homeschool. So my kids are in school, um, all week and so busy, they're competitive dancers. So they're super busy during the week and there's not a lot of family time.

[00:31:30] So weekends are really the time to

[00:31:31] Penny Fitzgerald: just

[00:31:32] Tavia Rogerson: feel and do our thing and, um, because otherwise what's it all for, right?

[00:31:38] Penny Fitzgerald: Yeah, exactly. Well, and we have these preconceived notions about what people will want, need. Yeah, I was having the, I told this story, I think on the podcast before, but I had I had lunch one day with another entrepreneurial girlfriend, and I, at that point in my life, I was not making calls during the day or not reaching out to people.

[00:32:00] This was years ago when we, when people still picked up the phone, you know, I was not calling people in the morning because I thought, oh, they're at work. They don't want to be bugged. We got to lunch and I'm still having all my, you know, the calls that I want to make that day in the afternoon and evening and she sat down, she goes, Oh, I got all my calls done this morning.

[00:32:20] It's so great. Now I can like relax, be like, wait, what? And she goes, well, I wouldn't want to bug anybody in the evening when they're with their family or, and I'm like, Oh, our, it was a total mindset shift to both of us. Why don't we, you know, just call when it works. And give them the grace to answer the phone or not, go to, you know, let them choose if they're going to pick it up.

[00:32:41] And yeah, we just have all these preconceived notions based on what we think people need or what they want. And then how about just, you know, finding out for real.

[00:32:53] Tavia Rogerson: Yeah, I think you're right. And then even nowadays, I mean, I just responded to a text. That somebody messaged me. What's today? Tuesday? Maybe they did it on Sunday night.

[00:33:02] Uhhuh. . And it's not for anything, but I mean, everyone is just bombarded with texts and email. Yeah. And messages and, and I'm like, Hey, so, but we all just kind of understand. I'm like, oh my gosh, I'm so sorry I missed this. I meant to get back to you. You know? Uh. And so that's the thing. I'm the same way. I'll send a text or send a message and it's people will get back to get, but get back to you when they have a second.

[00:33:23] I mean, I, I am the queen of follow up because it's more, if I don't follow up, I'm going to forget. Um, you know, especially with trying to get together with people and things like that. Like, Hey, where did we leave it? I know we were going to do something this week. Where did we leave this? You know? Um, cause if I don't write it in my calendar, it doesn't get done.

[00:33:39] So very much of a paper pen girl. So I already mentioned. Oh yeah, I am. When people pull up their calendars on their phone, I get all, I, I, I don't know how to do things on calendars on my phone. It makes me nervous because if it crashes or I lose something or whatever. Oh wow. Kind of out of luck, right? So no, I, I have a, an agenda and everything gets written down.

[00:34:02] Okay. Yeah.

[00:34:03] Penny Fitzgerald: I used to be that girl with the, you know, everything written down on a, on a physical calendar and then one. I don't remember which trip it was, but I left my calendar in Iowa and I went to Florida. Oh, geez. Okay. Yeah,

[00:34:16] Tavia Rogerson: that

[00:34:16] Penny Fitzgerald: was bad.

[00:34:18] Tavia Rogerson: That could happen too. Yeah.

[00:34:19] Penny Fitzgerald: I made the shift really quickly to all electronic now, all digital.

[00:34:24] Tavia Rogerson: I bet.

[00:34:25] Penny Fitzgerald: Yeah, but yeah, I have to do like I had, I use ToDoist, um, list, you know, to keep my list of what's important for today to get done. And yeah, if I have something to follow up with, I have to put it in there to remind myself. Otherwise it slips through the cracks.

[00:34:41] Tavia Rogerson: Absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah.

[00:34:44] Penny Fitzgerald: What other hacks do you have?

[00:34:46] What are the tips do you have for people to stay organized or?

[00:34:49] Tavia Rogerson: Gosh, um, calendaring everything, honestly. Um, if you don't calendar it, it, it won't happen, you know, even, you know, I find I just found a new dance class that I really like locally and I love it because you actually have to sign up in advance.

[00:35:07] And if you don't sign up, you or if you sign up, you don't show up, you actually get charged. So it's, you know, sign up, you know, then you're committed, you know, um, I have a daily call at 10 o'clock. It's in my calendar. Like I have to be on that. That's kind of my non negotiable, right? So. Definitely time block, time block things.

[00:35:29] I also have a rule for if you're a new entrepreneur. I do not, if I'm exhausted, I will never nap during the day. I never, never, never, never. Weekends are different, but, and napper, that's going to sound really weird. But, um, because if I were at the office, I couldn't nap. I wouldn't be able to. So I kind of have a rule.

[00:35:50] Like I get what I need to get done and then by, I mean, I have to grab my girls by 2. 45, 3, but like, I can't get what I need to get done during the day. Like yesterday, for instance, it's freezing again in Florida. I need a heavier blanket for our bed. My husband's like, we cannot go to bed tonight without a heavy comforter.

[00:36:09] I'm like, okay. But I got called to do something yesterday. I can't remember what it was. Um, and I was actually going to run out. To go get my comforter yesterday and I didn't so I had to get my work done during the day and then last night I ran out and I got it done. But, um, like be flexible, but just office hours or office hours.

[00:36:31] And if you are efficient, like, I can get what I need to get done. By 11 o'clock every day. And that includes my workout. You know, I, I believe in like starting your day early. I feel I just start early, but I also end early, you know, like I, Mm-Hmm. I'm go to bed probably by 10 30. I'm in bed, but I'm also up at five 40, you know, so it's kind of like I start my day.

[00:36:53] But by eight, I'm done my workout. You know, I come home, I get, I always get ready. That's another hack. I always get ready for my day, whether I'm going to be on a zoom or just phone calls, whether I'm staying home or I have a lunch date or coffee date, but I just find like, and if you're not a makeup person, it doesn't matter, but just getting yourself ready, you know, changes things too.

[00:37:15] Cause then you just kind of feel like you can show up, you know, for you, for this. , um, versus just kind of staying in your PJs all day. I don't think I've ever done that. . Well, I would like to, but I don't think I've done it, so, yeah. Yeah.

[00:37:29] Penny Fitzgerald: What's that? What's that rule that came outta Covid that if you slept in them, you gotta change out out of them?

[00:37:34] Tavia Rogerson: Well, it's true now, I'll tell you, I look put together on top, but I will comfy on the bottom. Now they're not, they're not PJs, but they're definitely comfy. Yes. So for

[00:37:42] Penny Fitzgerald: sure. Yeah.

[00:37:42] Tavia Rogerson: Yeah. You can

[00:37:43] Penny Fitzgerald: wear the same kind of pants. just make sure they're new ones. Yeah,

[00:37:47] Tavia Rogerson: exactly. Recycle. Yeah, exactly. Keep them clean and recycle.

[00:37:50] But yeah, just, just a couple of things like that. Get up early, use your time efficiently, time block. Um, I always just like to get ready in some sense of the word and yeah, I, I really. I don't think I ever have. Maybe if I'm sick, but I will not nap during the day. Just like those are my office hours. Do you know?

[00:38:09] Um, I might slip it maybe like 4 45, a 15 minute cat nap, but like you won't see me at 10 o'clock in the morning. I just,

[00:38:18] Penny Fitzgerald: Oh yeah.

[00:38:20] Tavia Rogerson: I dunno. It sounds good.

[00:38:21] Penny Fitzgerald: Yeah, it sounds good. Well, some days yeah, I, and the older I get, the better it sounds. But , yeah. Yeah. Um,

[00:38:29] Tavia Rogerson: it, it's hard though, going back to that, being disciplined in anything that you do.

[00:38:33] You know what I mean? Mm-Hmm. . Um, 'cause if I couldn't do it at the office, why am I doing it? Well, you know, I

[00:38:41] Penny Fitzgerald: think you have to know. yourself and know your body, know the, know what you need and to give yourself the grace for what you need. So like I might take, a 30 minute nap and I have a, I use the calm app.

[00:38:56] I use a lot of apps. I have the calm app and it has, it has a 30 minute timer and it wakes you up to bird sounds. So it's very gentle and it's very, you know, short.

[00:39:06] Tavia Rogerson: Siren. Yeah,

[00:39:09] Penny Fitzgerald: exactly. Exactly.

[00:39:11] Tavia Rogerson: I like that. I like that. I think, um, probably in maybe October, I just had a lot going on and I just felt off. You know, we all have those like weeks, months, whatever.

[00:39:21] And I just felt really, really off. And I found myself cause our mornings start really early here and I found myself waking up and I'm just like, I just need 20 minutes. Yeah. Some days I will come back home. But then one day I was like, Oh, that felt really good. And like, and it's funny thing. Cause I literally dropped my kids off at the bus and I'm home by seven in the morning.

[00:39:42] Like that's how early our days are. And so I'm like 7. 00 AM. I'll go to the gym in an hour. It's fine. Normally I'll go right there from, I'm already out. And I just go right there. But before I know it. It's, I haven't done anything and I miss the gym. It

[00:39:57] Penny Fitzgerald: slips away.

[00:39:59] Tavia Rogerson: I'm making dinner and throwing in a load of laundry at 11 and I haven't got any work done.

[00:40:03] And it was just kind of like, and you're right. So going back to what you said, you're a hundred percent right, you have to know yourself. Mm-Hmm. because me, I'm so, and I don't wanna say that I'm so routine based, but I do like routine. 'cause it keeps me on track because I can fall off track really easily.

[00:40:21] So yeah. When I started to do that and I got a taste of it, I was like, Ooh, I like these morning.

[00:40:27] Penny Fitzgerald: Oh, I

[00:40:28] Tavia Rogerson: like this, but then I don't like it because I'm not productive.

[00:40:31] Penny Fitzgerald: It didn't work for you. I don't

[00:40:32] Tavia Rogerson: like this, like fight, you know, I'm like, girl, go back to what you were doing, what you were doing routine, go back to what you were doing.

[00:40:39] So, um, yeah, it works for me. It works for me for sure.

[00:40:44] Penny Fitzgerald: That's great. Yeah. Yeah. You really have to know yourself and, and also recognize that, okay, you're maybe your nervous system was trying to keep you safe because you were on the verge of growth and being getting uncomfortable and, Oh, let's keep you comfortable for a little bit here.

[00:41:03] Tavia Rogerson: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. No, I, I agree. Absolutely. For sure.

[00:41:07] Penny Fitzgerald: Oh gosh. Yeah, that's good. Good stuff. Cause yeah, I, I'm, I have a routine, but it's very different from yours. I, I'm not an early person and I'm more productive later in the day. And so I ease into the day, but by easing in, I mean, I'm, I meditate and I'm quiet and then I go for my walk and I listen to a, you know, something inspirational and, um, then I'm ready, you know, then I'm ready to whatever.

[00:41:36] Tavia Rogerson: whatever. Yeah. I mean, I don't know that I would be that early unless I have to,

[00:41:40] Penny Fitzgerald: but okay. Yeah.

[00:41:42] Tavia Rogerson: Summers look a little bit different, but, um, but I don't mind it. I mean, I really, I, I don't, besides it being dark when I wake up, I don't really mind it. They do say that, you know, your mind is, is, is, Most open and productive early on in those quiet moments.

[00:42:01] Um, now there's no quiet in my house at 5 46 .

[00:42:05] Penny Fitzgerald: Yeah. That's a season also. Yeah.

[00:42:07] Tavia Rogerson: season. And I know that so, but you know, once I do come home from a workout, I take the dog for a walk and mm-Hmm. . Um, you know, things like that, which is nice, you know, you kind of come home and then I gradually kind of make the breakfast and do all that kind of stuff too.

[00:42:21] So, yeah, there is something to be said, but you're right there there's seasons. So, you know, I went through a season where I would wake up and I have to get back. It's all these things of like, add that to my list, you know, and I would get up. the journal and I would do things, but then, you know, the girls both started different schools and then we just, the schedule was even earlier than it was.

[00:42:40] And I'm thinking, I don't want to purposely wake up at 5 a. m. unless I have, you know, I'm trying to figure out where to fit that in. And I, I'm not, I haven't been successful yet. So I think, I think honestly the best, um, not word of advice, but just, just go with it. Figure out what works for you. Yeah. And you said it, give yourself grace.

[00:43:07] Um, if something's not working, shift it up.

[00:43:10] Penny Fitzgerald: Um,

[00:43:11] Tavia Rogerson: but I, sometimes when you stack so many things,

[00:43:16] Penny Fitzgerald: yeah,

[00:43:17] Tavia Rogerson: it just fall apart too. It's like, it

[00:43:18] Penny Fitzgerald: feels heavy. I mean, just you, just your illustration there, just,

[00:43:23] Tavia Rogerson: yeah, it's too much. So it's like, what feels good today? Well, today I got this done. Didn't get this done tomorrow.

[00:43:29] I'll add that in. You know what I mean? It shouldn't, it shouldn't feel like work. It shouldn't feel like you have.

[00:43:36] Penny Fitzgerald: Not every day. Anyway, you know, some days probably will, but

[00:43:40] Tavia Rogerson: yeah, yeah, agreed, agreed.

[00:43:43] Penny Fitzgerald: It's got to bring joy.

[00:43:45] Tavia Rogerson: Joy. Absolutely.

[00:43:48] Penny Fitzgerald: Cool. Well, okay. So Tavia, I will put links to your shop. Is that what you would call it?

[00:43:53] A shop? I would just love. Your

[00:43:55] Tavia Rogerson: store. I would love a link to just follow me on my Instagram page. That would be great. What I do is I always share really fun things and helpful tips on there and, um, yeah, if it speaks to someone or, or has any questions and, you know, they can definitely reach me through there, which would be great.

[00:44:14] Penny Fitzgerald: Awesome. Yeah, I'll definitely do that. And I'll follow you as well. I'm not sure if we're connected or not yet.

[00:44:20] Tavia Rogerson: Not sure.

[00:44:21] Penny Fitzgerald: We will be.

[00:44:23] Tavia Rogerson: We will be now. Very cool.

[00:44:24] Penny Fitzgerald: Okay, so something I always ask my guests at the end of our episodes or at the end of our time together. What's your favorite? cocktail or beverage, or glass of wine.

[00:44:35] Okay.

[00:44:36] Tavia Rogerson: It's a great question.

[00:44:36] Penny Fitzgerald: So

[00:44:38] Tavia Rogerson: if my office was a little cleaner, I would probably take you on a little road trip to nominal drink cart. It was like my vision when I came here to Florida to have a fun, fun drink cart. So it's gold and it's really kind of extra. And so I pride myself on finding really pretty glasses.

[00:44:56] So huge win. We're not even talking about cocktails, but I'm talking about the glasses. that the cocktail goes in some holiday decor at a s I found the most beautif flutes that have gold gl literally just in time fo we entertained about 25 p And so we made espresso martinis and these beautiful gold bow little flutes.

[00:45:26] Penny Fitzgerald: Nice

[00:45:26] Tavia Rogerson: flutes. That's probably the wrong name. They're like a short champagne glass.

[00:45:29] Penny Fitzgerald: Oh, a coupe. Yeah, Champagne Coupe. Uh huh.

[00:45:33] Tavia Rogerson: So that's what it is. They were amazing. So I mean, my, my go to triad is a beautiful red, a Pinot. Um, I have some of my favorites. Um, oh yeah. Can I tell you a fun story? Yes,

[00:45:47] Penny Fitzgerald: please.

[00:45:48] Tavia Rogerson: So going back to our early mornings, so I come home and so apparently Trader Joe's is known for delicious wine and people go there all the time.

[00:45:59] It's priced really well. it's just not something I've ever really bought there because I have kind of my go to's that I always pick up. So it's a really early morning. Um, it's probably eight. Trader Joe's has just opened up. I've left the gym. I'm, I stopped by to get some things for the kids and I walk, I'm walking through the wine section and there's this, you know, advertisement.

[00:46:19] And it's describing this red wine and this is like me all over it. Notes of vanilla, um, uh, berries. And I'm like, Oh, jammy. So I like smooth. So I'm like a little bit sweeter. I'm like, wow, why, where's the sample girl? Like samples. They always are,

[00:46:39] Penny Fitzgerald: but when I was the champions,

[00:46:41] Tavia Rogerson: when I didn't realize the time, when I told my friend that she goes, it was 8 AM.

[00:46:44] I said, Oh, I didn't, I didn't really, really jammy and vanilla and things like that. Anyways. So I went to check out. But it was like 9. 99. It was, um, this one was a red Zinfandel, which is not my go to, but I ended up buying it. And the guy that checked me out was raving about it. So he goes, if you like it, you have to come back.

[00:47:04] Cause we haven't had this for five years. I tried it. I went by, I bought a case. That's when I did go big or no judgment. All my friends about it. I think we cleared them all out of it because we all like the same. So really tasty, smooth red is my go to. Okay. But I love cocktails. I love a good cocktail.

[00:47:27] Same. Um, you know, especially Aperol Spritz in the summer. Oh

[00:47:31] Penny Fitzgerald: my girl.

[00:47:32] Tavia Rogerson: Favorite, you know, I have all that. Um, I just, I'm very versatile, very versatile.

[00:47:38] Penny Fitzgerald: I love that about you.

[00:47:41] Tavia Rogerson: You'll find fun glasses here and gin and, you can't go wrong with a gin and tonic.

[00:47:46] Penny Fitzgerald: Very good summer thing.

[00:47:48] Tavia Rogerson: Yeah.

[00:47:49] Penny Fitzgerald: Okay. So I know some people are going to be asking, okay, what, what do you remember the name of the wine that you picked up?

[00:47:56] No,

[00:47:56] Tavia Rogerson: but

[00:47:57] Penny Fitzgerald: I'm

[00:47:57] Tavia Rogerson: happy to send it to you.

[00:47:58] Penny Fitzgerald: Okay. Okay. I'll put that in the show notes and people can follow it.

[00:48:01] Tavia Rogerson: It's a really pretty bottle and it's almost like she has like, remember the girl in the green scarf from Shopaholic? Do you remember that movie?

[00:48:07] Penny Fitzgerald: No.

[00:48:08] Tavia Rogerson: Okay. That's a whole other podcast.

[00:48:10] Penny Fitzgerald: Okay.

[00:48:12] Tavia Rogerson: You're basically of a woman who's almost like a floating something from her and then, um, it's a Zinfandel on it.

[00:48:18] Okay. I don't know if they still have it, but I, I cleared out here, but they might've got another shipment, but like less than 10 for an unbelievable bottle of wine.

[00:48:28] Penny Fitzgerald: Okay. Like

[00:48:30] Tavia Rogerson: it's just,

[00:48:32] Penny Fitzgerald: Can't beat it. I, you know, Trader Joe's has some, I mean, some things are good. Some are not, in my opinion, are not as great, but yeah, they're for the price.

[00:48:41] You can't go wrong. Really

[00:48:43] Tavia Rogerson: price. Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:48:45] Penny Fitzgerald: I have a glass tip for you because I think we're kind of on the same page with that. Okay. So being in Sarasota, do you ever get to the 70 out near Lakewood Ranch? Yeah.

[00:48:59] Tavia Rogerson: Okay, that one's not far for me.

[00:49:01] Penny Fitzgerald: Uh huh.

[00:49:03] Tavia Rogerson: That's where your go to is? Uh

[00:49:04] Penny Fitzgerald: huh. You can pick up the most beautiful glasses there for, and they're, you know, Riedel's and Schatzfiesel and yeah, they're amazing.

[00:49:14] Tavia Rogerson: So, but I'm with you on secondhand because there's in Gulfgate. Anyone who's from here, there's a beautiful little curated store called Butter and I've gone in there and I have, I bought the most gorgeous wine glasses and they're all cut out and they're like a movie crystal and I like 250 a glass. I'm like, what's happening?

[00:49:35] I'm going to start the car. This is amazing. So I bought those. And then there's another great little, um, shop on, I think it's called Woven and Co. They're off Clark. And I bought these beautiful, cause people will come and they'll want like, yeah, gin and tonic or brandy. And I don't have like a nice short glass.

[00:49:54] So I bought these beautiful glasses, gold rimmed on the top with all gold flakes on them. And I bought six of those and it's just so the cart is busting at the seams like, you know, we had the holidays, right? Wine and bottles. And I'm like, where do I put all this? Um, is the feature really is these amazing glasses and we have one.

[00:50:15] with the pool and then we have glass ones for the door and I like, I just want to make you a cocktail because the glass is so fabulous. That's what it comes down to, right? It's

[00:50:25] Penny Fitzgerald: like getting a gift in a beautiful bag when it's wrapped exquisitely, you know, it's just like, Oh, here, here's your cocktail in this beautiful glass.

[00:50:33] Tavia Rogerson: It's funny because we had, um, lots of people over, like I said, for Thanksgiving and I was telling this one woman about it and she has a little shop where she'll do, um, she'll bring in some pieces as well and like resell them. And she's like, where did you get them? And I told her and she, but now I'm, I'm price conscious.

[00:50:49] Like I like a deal. Which were they, do you mind me asking? I'm like 7. 99. Like I'm like a 3. 99. These were phenomenal. I had to buy them. She's Girl, I would pay like 30 bucks a glass for this. Yeah, I know. They're amazing. I got it for 7. 99. First, I was like, maybe that's a little bit, but they're beautiful.

[00:51:11] They're just, yeah,

[00:51:12] Penny Fitzgerald: that's, that's, um, yeah, I, I don't like to spend money on. especially wine glasses because they break.

[00:51:19] Tavia Rogerson: They break. I know it's the, the stemless ones. I just bought stemless ones, but they're so thin. Yeah. And, um, I mean, they're cheap and cheerful, but they're beautiful, but yeah, he puts it in the dishwasher the wrong way or you wrong way shattered gone.

[00:51:35] Yeah. So I, I agree. It's, you know,

[00:51:39] Penny Fitzgerald: yeah. And, oh gosh. Yeah. Cocktail in a beautiful glass. It's just, it just says, I care about you. So

[00:51:47] Tavia Rogerson: I have Canadian friends and family coming in for Christmas and I already asked, I said, what's your, I don't think I did this in Canada, but I'm like, what do you drink? Like what's your cocktail of choice?

[00:52:00] And she said, Bellini and Mojitos. I'm like, okay, I don't make either of those. So. A, I gotta find a glass, and B, I have to find a recipe. I can't go get all the ingredients, because there's gotta be, there's a Bellini glass, I'm sure. I just have to figure out what it goes in.

[00:52:13] Penny Fitzgerald: Yeah, a champagne flute would be perfect.

[00:52:16] Oh yeah,

[00:52:17] Tavia Rogerson: that would work. Okay, see, look at you. Yes, love that. Oh yeah,

[00:52:21] Penny Fitzgerald: I'm all about it.

[00:52:21] Tavia Rogerson: You can buy a mix. I go, Oh, I don't do mix. Oh,

[00:52:25] Penny Fitzgerald: no. I'm not a

[00:52:26] Tavia Rogerson: mix girl. Even margaritas. Actually, my girlfriend is a huge margarita fan and she showed her every time we're at her house and she got me into it. So it's like hand, like, it's a commitment.

[00:52:37] You are squeezing every line, like, you know,

[00:52:41] Penny Fitzgerald: um,

[00:52:42] Tavia Rogerson: you know, the really good tequila, you know, and I'm like, Oh, Yeah, we don't do mixes. Makes

[00:52:47] Penny Fitzgerald: a difference. Yes.

[00:52:49] Tavia Rogerson: Me

[00:52:49] Penny Fitzgerald: either.

[00:52:50] Tavia Rogerson: You're my

[00:52:51] Penny Fitzgerald: people, Tavia. I love this.

[00:52:53] Tavia Rogerson: Happy hour at my house. Yes. Can I share one last thing for all of you? Yes, please. So, um, we do not, fun fact about Canada, it's a good place, but I'm just telling you, we do not have happy hour in Canada.

[00:53:06] Doesn't exist. And I think it's because, let me tell you, because, um, alcohol there is, we have provinces, we don't have states. So it's run by the provinces and the government owns the liquor board. So it's not private, right? So they have their hands on it, which makes it more expensive. So a bottle of wine here, 10 is probably closer to 30, 25, 30 in Canada.

[00:53:32] Wow. And then, you know, the, there's a lot of tax and things like that. So I just don't think that they can, they have the capacity to discount alcohol during happy hour. So we just don't have it up north. So when we came down here, my husband's and I, our first experience, we went to, um, the daiquiri deck, if anyone's familiar with that.

[00:53:52] Yes. So we didn't even know it was happy hour. We dropped the girls off at dance and let's go to daiquiri deck and grab a drink. Okay. I probably had two drinks. He had whatever, two beers or something. We get our bill. It's like 11. And I'm like, they made a mistake. Like we start the car and leave. Right. And I looked it up and I'm like, what's tax?

[00:54:11] What? There's like nothing. Like, and then I saw happy hour pricing and I'm like, this is the greatest country in the world. What is amazing. And then after that I had to, you know, my, I started to make friends here and they would say, Hey, do you want to go for HH? I'm

[00:54:26] Penny Fitzgerald: like, yeah. Oh, I've not heard it referred to like that.

[00:54:29] Tavia Rogerson: And they're like, happy hour. And I'm like, Oh, so then I just started to say I'm from Canada. I don't know what that is, but okay. I'm there. Just tell me what you're there. I'm there. Right. So happy hour, HH.

[00:54:40] Penny Fitzgerald: Nice. Okay. H squared. H squared

[00:54:46] Tavia Rogerson: should be a name of a something.

[00:54:51] Penny Fitzgerald: You have to knock three times and use the code word.

[00:54:54] Tavia Rogerson: There you go. I like it. Awesome. Well, it's fun for sure.

[00:55:00] Penny Fitzgerald: Yeah, absolutely.

[00:55:02] Tavia Rogerson: Okay. Very cool. Okay. Is there anything else

[00:55:05] Penny Fitzgerald: that you would

[00:55:05] Tavia Rogerson: like to share? I, I'm, my time is probably up. Everyone's stopped

[00:55:10] Penny Fitzgerald: watching.

[00:55:12] Tavia Rogerson: There's always more stories, but there are

[00:55:14] Penny Fitzgerald: no rules.

[00:55:16] It's

[00:55:17] Tavia Rogerson: no life is good. No, thank you for having me. I really appreciate it.

[00:55:20] Penny Fitzgerald: Thank you. It's been great for getting to know you. And, um, yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing you again. I'll be back down in January, so we'll have to

[00:55:29] Tavia Rogerson: absolutely. We'll have to

[00:55:30] Penny Fitzgerald: have that cocktail.

[00:55:31] Tavia Rogerson: We will have to.

[00:55:32] Penny Fitzgerald: Yeah.

[00:55:34] Tavia Rogerson: Right. Very

[00:55:35] Penny Fitzgerald: good.

[00:55:35] Yeah. Okay.

[00:55:37] Tavia Rogerson: All right. Well, enjoy the holidays. Thank you so much.

[00:55:39] Penny Fitzgerald: Thank you. You too. Have a great rest of your day.

[00:55:42] Tavia Rogerson: You too. Thanks, Tavia. Okay. See ya. Bye.
