In this best documentary Film Festival Winner, a widow suffering prolonged grief agrees to participate in a research study that aims to reconnect grief survivors with their departed loved ones.

The process is known as Induced after Death Communication and it is rapidly gaining recognition, amongst psychologists, academics and bereaved professionals. Life with ghosts’ records, the first ever publicly funded attempt to facilitate contact with deceased individuals and to determine if such contact can be used to reduce severe grief and symptoms.

The message of the movie is that there are 270 million bereaved people in the world, up to 30% suffer from prolonged grief disorder, a debilitating condition that can last for years or even a lifetime. Researchers have known for decades that survivors do better with their grief when an emotional bond is maintained with the deceased, and yet psychologists, grief counselors, and clergy routinely discourage such behavior as denial or even hearsay.

 With the staggering recent increase in sudden deaths ushered in by the pandemic, war, new science for addressing grief is needed now more than ever through the making of this film. 

Steven also has his own podcast called Life with Ghosts - Let's Chat where he interviews both professional and lay people about their experiences with grief and ghosts.

• Stephen shares that the deep grief that his mom Irene was experiencing after the loss of his father was the catalyst for creating the documentary Life with Ghosts.
• After his father’s passing, his mother Irene (who appears in the film) deeply struggled with grief.
• Traditional avenues such as support groups, grief counseling, and religious services had no effect on helping Irene cope with her loss.
• He highlights Ethel’s journey through grief as she explores automatic writing to connect with her late husband. Ethel was a close friend of Irene’s.
