Welcome to Podcasts Suck a podcast about starting a podcast, where we dive headfirst into the wild, wacky, and sometimes frustrating world of podcasting. If you've ever sat down with a microphone, hit record, and thought, what on earth am I doing? Or if you're just curious about the magic behind your favorite shows, then you're in the right place. Get ready for laughs, insights, and a whole lot of what not to do advice as we embark on this podcasting journey together. Let's dive in. Oh, yeah. What's happening, everybody? Happy Tuesday to you. It's Tuesday, right? Yeah. Losing track of days over here sometimes on my way to the lovely city of Las Vegas in a few hours. But before I head out, I thought, you know what? Let's let's let's just sit down and have a quick conversation with the podcast Suck Nation about time. Life's most valuable asset, time. I wanna talk about this because I often hear people tell me with a straight face, I wanna start a podcast, I just don't have the time. To which I immediately reply, we make time for anything, and I do mean anything, that is a priority for us. If it is something that we really, really want to do, it's something that we really, really want. We make time for it. I specialize in busy people. I work with a number of very, very busy business owners, very successful business owners that quite frankly don't even need to have a podcast, but they understand their responsibility. with sharing their gifts. They understand their responsibility as a business owner, entrepreneur, D all of the above to build new relationships with people. They understand the value of that. So they prioritize and they make time. So if you've ever said to yourself, I want to start a podcast, but I just don't have time. Yeah, you do. We all have 24 hours in a day. We all have seven days in a week. Some of us have found ways to hack that and get something done that would normally take two or three days done in one day. These days, there are enough resources available, both through technology and through professionals that can help you achieve those goals. That'd be me helping you start a podcast. that there's no excuse for you to say, I don't have time. Because if you're a business owner, and especially a business owner that networks and creates content, we're living in this content era now, like everybody woke up all of a sudden. My boy Gary Vee's been preaching this for 15 years and I've been echoing it. Everyone will be running around with a phone in their hand, capturing content, telling stories, creating content to show up in the newsfeed where the eyeballs are at. Well, here we are, but Sebastian, aren't there too many podcasts out there already? I don't know, Bob, are there too many books out there already? We've already talked about that on the show, so I won't dive into that rant right now. Today's rant is more about you prioritizing your time times.
Sebastian Rusk
is the most valuable asset that we have in life.
It's the only thing they're not making more of. If you're putting four episodes a month out, and those episodes are 30 minutes each, that's two hours of your time. Two. And you could probably record those in two sittings. That's what we do with our clients. We figure out a recording schedule. We get them to record a couple times a month, and they're done with the podcast. So they can focus on their business, their life, family. These are busy individuals running multimillion dollar businesses, still find time to record episodes, still find time to prioritize and make a podcast a reality. So I just wanted to speak some truth into your life today and some reality to help you silence your own BS. because no one's going to silence it for you. People can influence it, but you're the only one lying to yourself by constantly saying things that aren't even true. Like I don't have time. Unless you hate money and you don't like new business and you're completely against building new relationships that will become profitable for your business, then you need to find time. to prioritize a podcast in your life. Starting a podcast will radically change your life and your business if you let it. I say it over and over and over again because it's true. How do I know? I'm living proof. I've actually been able to radically change my life and my business because of podcasting. And I now empower others, enable others. to do the same exact thing. I am living in my purpose, on purpose. You know what that feels like? Absolutely incredible.
So the next time you tell yourself, I don't have time. I think we do. I think we do. But I want you to think about what's possible for a second. I want you to think about what's possible with you starting a podcast.
There's three reasons you want to start a podcast as a business owner. Number one, to network with people that you want to do business with and that you want to sell something to. This allows you to do something for them first. Let's get you on the podcast. Make it all about you. Tell your story. You're building rapport by default and they need what you have. They're going to buy it. Why? Well, because you reached out first, did something for them. This is not a sales call. This is not another stupid business card. I hate business cards, such a waste of time and paper. Let's go green people. And no, I don't want to scan your QR code either. I want to meet you. I want to connect with you. And there's multiple social media platforms. I can connect with you on. Let's just do that right now. Take out our phones. Let's connect. I don't need your ugly business card and outdated profile picture. I don't, I don't need any of that. You need to connect with you and figure out if there's something that we can mutually beneficially, uh, agree on that would help us both out. If not, that's okay too. Podcasting is networking at scale and podcast interviews are networking at scale. allows you to enter the situation from a completely different angle than pitch, pitch, pitch, pitch, pitch, pitch, pitch. I want to sell, sell, sell, sell. So I don't want to do any of that. I just want to get to know you. I want to tell your story. I want to create some content. I want to share that content with you. And in the event, there's an opportunity for us to do some business together. Let's talk about it. Oh, by the way, that person may not know what you do either. So the podcast interview could lead to them actually asking you, so what do you do? Oh, it's funny you mentioned that. I'm looking to start a podcast. Let's schedule a call. I'd love to learn more about your process, your company, how you help people launch podcasts in 90 days or less. Let's do it. All of this is happening within the podcast interview before or after block out an hour, 45 minutes to a 25, 30 minute interview, chop it up for 15, 20 minutes after that, figure out what the next steps are and rinse and repeat. Second reason you want to launch a podcast to get your social media content game in check and consistent. Cause you know, it sucks right now. It's terrible. You're inconsistent. I should be, I could be, and you're just not doing it. One post a day. Some would say post two or three times a day on the same platform. Get up in people's newsfeed. You need to be in people's newsfeed to be visible. You need to be in the newsfeed in order to be relevant. You need to be in the newsfeed in order to be an authority. If you're not in the newsfeed, you don't exist these days. And if you're okay with not gaining new business because your content is attracting new business, well then, that's completely on you. In my experience, a majority of the people that I meet and connect with love money, love new relationships. love new business. A podcast will forge you the opportunity to be able to do that, but you've got to be able to create content and post it on social media daily. One podcast episode, multiple pieces of micro content to post on social media. You see how one thing feeds into the other. Starting a podcast will solve all your social media content problems. I've said that for a long time and I'll continue to say that. I believe that because it does. In fact, that's part of our process here. Not only do we produce your podcast episodes, we produce the micro content for your podcast episodes. Oh, Sebastian, I didn't know that. I need some of that micro content. Yeah, you do. Yeah, you do. Third reason you wanna start a podcast, to become a better communicator, to silence the inner critic a little bit. Yeah, he's noisy. He or she is noisy up there, that inner critic. I'm going to sound like crap, look like crap. I remember that time at one time in my school play, I forgot my lines. Everybody started laughing at me and I just never talked again. Podcasting allows you to silence that inner critic and become who you were designed to be. step into a completely different version of yourself because of the podcast. I am no longer scared of public speaking because I started a podcast. You know, many times I hear that I'm really comfortable in front of a camera. Now on a microphone, I actually stood up at my weekly networking group and gave a presentation without my palms sweating or knees knocking. I'm doing all this. because my podcast kicked that door open for me to do that. So that third reason is becoming a better communicator, stepping into a completely different version of yourself.
Ask yourself, who do I get to become because I started a podcast? And who's life in addition to mine?
gets to be impacted because I started a podcast. It just takes you saying one thing on a podcast to change someone, to change someone's thought process, to put them into action.
Who's missing out? Because you're not showing up. Might've heard that a couple, two, three times. You're going to continue to hear it because it's very thought provoking. It also provokes action. I mean, people have hit me up and be like, you know, I came to your talk yesterday. I can't stop thinking about you saying who's missing out because you're not showing up. You know what, Sebastian? I've decided I'm going to start showing up and I'm going to do that by starting a podcast. This is why I do what I do, people.
I have a unique gift. to speak into people's lives and get them to take massive action.
The platform, podcasting.
This is year nine, being able to do this work. And I don't see it slowing down anytime soon. It's not really work. Are you kidding? I'm going to Las Vegas for the week. I'm attending an event and I'm appearing on a couple of large podcasts. That's not work.
I've built my life first and then my business, not the other way around.
Somebody told me a long time ago, if you want to have a lifestyle, you gotta have a lifestyle business. So I built my business around my life, not the other way around. I run the show, not the business.
I do what I want, when I want, where I want, with who I want, how I want, because I made it that way. Must be nice. It sure is. It's actually fantastic.
It really is. But none of this would have been possible without healthy boundaries and decisions and massive action. I made a decision 10 years ago. I had a conversation with myself. What do you want to do, Sebastian? I want to do three things.
I want to deliver keynotes and speak. I want to do comedy.
I want to launch a podcast. It's not those three things. I'm not leaving the house. Let me tell you, those healthy boundaries that I put in place for me and that conversation I had with me changed everything. So ask yourself, what healthy boundaries are you putting in place? Because saying you don't have time is not a good healthy boundary. You understand boundaries don't exist to keep the bad out. Boundaries exist to keep the good in. healthy boundaries in every area. Yeah, piss some people off, setting boundaries. Yeah, all of a sudden you're the problem. Funny how that works, isn't it?
All right, friends, the big takeaway here, you have time. And if you make time, starting a podcast will radically change your life and your business if you let it.
How do I know? Because I'm living proof. thoughts, ideas, concerns, anything you need based on this video or any other episode rather, not video. We go live to record this podcast episode. This is not a video podcast because those don't exist. Don't get me started. But if you're watching the live stream, what up YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, I appreciate you tuning in. We record this live on Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube, and then we produce it as a podcast episode. So if I'm all up in your earbuds and you're listening to this episode, I sure do appreciate it. If you have any feedback about this episode or any other episodes, on the show, please hit me up, shoot me a DM over on Instagram or Facebook or LinkedIn, wherever you hang out at podcast suck. Until next time, friends.
