The Commonwealth Beat with Laura LeBeau

The Commonwealth Beat with Laura LeBeau - Episode 89 - 08/10/25

7 Mountains Media

The Commonwealth Beat with Laura LeBeau is a statewide Public Affairs program airing on all of the Seven Mountains Media Pennsylvania radio stations.

This summer has been one of the worst on record for ticks, the sometimes speck-like creatures that latch onto warm-blooded hosts, be it a rodent, a dog, a cat, or even you and me.  And if they do, there's about even odds that they may be carrying one of four common diseases found in the ticks in Pennsylvania.

That's where the Pennsylvania Tick Research Lab at East Stroudsburg University comes in.  They're on a mission to test the ticks that latch onto us humans, because knowing whether the tick that bit you is carrying a disease is the key to your speedy recovery, and avoidance of many long-lasting negative effects.  We're talking ticks with Dr. Nicole Chinnici from the PA Tick Research Lab on this edition of The Commonwealth Beat!
