Are you trapped in religious obligation instead of experiencing the freedom of relationship with God? Mike Mirarchi breaks down his personal secret to success that has guided his entire life and career: putting 100% of everything in God's hands.

Drawing from his own journey, Mike explains the critical distinction between what he calls "Be-Do-Have Religion" versus "Have-Do-Be Relationship." The former requires us to follow rules, perform rituals, and earn our way to salvation. The latter starts with accepting the freely given gift of salvation through Jesus, which transforms how we live from the inside out. When Jesus died on the cross, the temple curtain tore from top to bottom—a powerful symbol of our new direct access to God without intermediaries or religious gatekeepers.

This perspective changes everything. No longer bound by religious obligations, holy days, dress codes, or endless rules, we discover the freedom of letting our actions flow naturally from our connection with God. Mike vulnerably shares how this relationship-centered approach has guided his work, relationships, and purpose. He explores Psalm 139's revelation that God designed each of us with unique purpose, and how relationship with Him helps us discover that purpose. Rather than earning God's favor through religious performance, we accept His gift of salvation and allow our lives to be transformed by His presence.

Religion vs Relationship Explained

Speaker 1

Welcome to the Toilet Paper Salesman Podcast. My name is Mike Merarky, I'm your host and I'm thrilled that you're with us today. This episode is going to be much different than any previous episode that we've done, and it's going to play off of a previous episode where I shared my secret to success. So if you haven't heard that podcast, I'll go back over that. And my secret to success is I put 100% my whole life and everything in God's hands. That's my work, that's my life, that's my relationships, that's everything that I have 100% in his hands. I work as hard as I can and then he takes care of the rest. Now, I know that sounds simplistic and I know a lot of people believe that God isn't intimately involved in your life. So that's what I'd really like to share today is how that all works. So the title of this episode is Do you have a Religion or a Relationship? It works like this and I call it Be Do have Religion. If I can be a good person, a good Christian, a good Muslim, a good Hindu, a good Jehovah's Witness, a good Mormon, etc. You insert the religion and do the good works, which is what man requires and what the religion requires, then I'll have a reward Heaven, nirvana, a crown, godhood whatever that reward is, if I can be a good person Christian, muslim, hindu and do good works what's required by the religion then I'll have something. But what I've learned is that's not how God wants it. God wants you to have a relationship. He sent Jesus down to die for us so that we can have relationship, an open relationship, with him. If you go back to the Bible, it will tell you that when Jesus died on the cross, the curtain of the temple was torn from top to bottom and what that did is that gave us access, full access to God, directly, not through men, not through anybody else, but directly us to God, and that established the relationship. How the relationship works is because I already have Jesus in my heart. Then I do good works and his will for my life, which is works, assignments etc. That he gives us, and then I'll be the light of the world. So it's a have-do-be relationship versus a be-do-have relationship.

Discovering Your God-Given Purpose

Speaker 1

Once you understand this concept, it frees you from all the religious stuff like holy days of obligation and you can't do this and you can't do that and you have to wear your clothes like this. All those rules are meaningless. Your works are meaningless if you don't have a relationship. The relationship and the works come out of the relationship with God, with Jesus, and then those works are good and they're fruitful. It's really what happens when we go to heaven, and I have this document I'm going to post online. It spells this out Do you have a religion or a relationship?

Speaker 1

It'll be on my website. You'll be able to download it. I encourage you to do that and it'll explain this with scripture, because this is not something that's being taught normally in church. You go to church. They're not teaching necessarily this. There are a few churches that teach this, but it's very rare.

Speaker 1

This is a message that's not really told, and that's why this message is being released today. I'm not sure when that is. I'm recording this right now, on April 21st. I'm not sure when it's supposed to be released, but I'll know that and when the time's right. Here it is. Today it's being released.

Speaker 1

What the message is is that to have a relationship with Jesus, have him in your heart. Then he guides you and he gives you assignments and you get to discover what your path and purpose is for your life. He's created each of us with a purpose. If you read Psalm 139,. It tells you that he knit you in your mother's womb. Each of us are knit within our mother's womb with a life and a purpose, and it's up to us to figure out what that is. That's the great, exciting thing about life with God is we get to understand what our purpose is.

How to Begin a Relationship with God

Speaker 1

Now does that mean it's going to be easy all the time and it's great and it's wonderful? No, it's hard. As a matter of fact, a lot of times it's harder, and all you have to do is look at the martyrs around the world who have lost their life because of Jesus and the Word of God. You'll know that it's not easy, necessarily, but it's joy, it's fulfillment, it's all the things you've been searching for. You're searching for all these religions. There's people who go from religion to religion, to religion to religion, and they never get fulfilled, they never get satisfied, and that's because they've never accepted Jesus into their life, they haven't believed in him. And once you do that, once you say God, if you're real, show yourself to me, and then he will, and you believe, then he enters you and becomes part of your life and he changes and transforms you. That's the process.

Speaker 1

When you've accepted Christ, you've accepted a free gift, it's already given to you. So if I gave you a hundred dollar gift card, what are you going to do to earn that? That's a free gift that I've given to you. You can't do anything to earn that. But with the religious, we've been given a free gift. Jesus died on the cross for our sins so that we're saved and that we don't have to suffer eternal damnation. He's done that for us. All we need to do is accept the gift. But what do we do? We try to earn it. We try to work for it. Try to earn it. We try to work for it. If I can be a good person, if I can do this, if I can follow the rules, if I can do that, he's released us from all that. You don't have to do any of that. All you need to do is accept them and then your works, coming from that, are pleasing and acceptable to God, and I hope you understand the difference.

Speaker 1

So how do I have a relationship? It's quite simple Ask God, dear God, show yourself to me. If you're real, show yourself to me and he will. If you ask of anything, he'll give it to you. He's your father, he loves you, he wants you to have a relationship with you. He desires nothing more than to know you intimately, even though he does know you intimately. He wants to get to know you personally and he wants you to get to know him. Just ask.

Speaker 1

In Acts 16, verse 31. They said believe in the Lord and you will be saved, you and your household. Just believe in him, and then he comes into your heart. Then you change your mind. None of us are worthy of this. Then you change your mind. None of us are worthy of this, and that's why jesus had to come and do this for us, because none of us are worthy of what he's done for us that he shed his blood so that we can be clean. That's the whole deal in a nutshell.

The Free Gift of Salvation

Speaker 1

Do you have a religion or relationship? I ask you to please consider a relationship, no matter what you've been through. It is that simple for us. It wasn't simple for him. God sent his son down to suffer on our behalf an incredibly terrible death and we just celebrated Easter yesterday. If he already did everything for us, what else do we need to do other than to believe it?

Speaker 1

It's kind of silly, right? If I give you a million dollars and say. You're going to say what do I need to do for this? And I say nothing. It's a million dollars. Here you go, and I think that you're going to have to do a bunch of stuff for me, even though I told you that you don't need to. That's silly, right, and it's the same thing. We have a gift more precious than a million dollars, a trillion dollars, a gazillion dollars. This is the most precious gift that you don't have to work for. You only need to believe it. And so that's all I have for today. Who says selling toilet paper isn't glamorous? Thanks a lot and have a great day.
