Is Jesus Christ late? Many people ask this question when they hear about the Second-Coming. Jesus promised He would return, yet centuries have passed. Has God forgotten His promise, or is there a deeper biblical truth behind what some call a delay?
In this powerful and eye-opening message, Evangelist Dr. Gabriel Oluwakotanmi explains why the return of Jesus Christ has not happened yet and what the Bible truly says about God's timing. Scripture teaches that God does not measure time the way humans do. As written in 2 Peter 3:8, one day with the Lord is like a thousand years and a thousand years like one day.
This sermon reveals the real reason for the waiting. The apparent delay is not weakness or forgetfulness. It is the mercy of God giving humanity time to repent before the day of judgment arrives.
Discover the biblical truth about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, the patience of God, the certainty of Christ’s return, and why every believer must live ready.
This message will challenge you to examine your life, your faith, and your readiness for the return of the King.
Listen, share, and invite others to hear the truth of God's Word.

SPEAKER_05Is Jesus Christ late? The truth about the second coming. Hello everybody. Thank you for joining us today. Imagine making a promise and taking 2,000 years to fulfill it. In our word, if I say to you, I will come back soon and I do not return for two hours, it is reasonable to begin to question my promise. Two days later, you will doubt my sincerity. Two weeks later, it is assumed the promise was empty. Our Lord Jesus Christ promised to come back soon, and 2000 years later, many concluded the promise was never real at all. And that is exactly the accusation many people make about Jesus Christ today. For nearly 20 centuries, the church has proclaimed the message. Jesus is coming again. The early believer preached it. The apostle wrote about it. The mortals died believing it. Generation after generation of Christians have waited for it. But skip it, laugh. Unbelievers make fun of it. They say, Where is he? If he promised to return, why has he not come back yet? Has heaven forgotten its promise? Was the church mistaken all along? In fact, the Bible predicted this reaction long time ago. In 2 Peter chapter 3, verse 3 to 4, scriptures say, know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following their own lust, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? The question is not new, it is ancient. It is the question of doubters, skeptics, and even some troubled believers. But today we must face it honestly. Is Jesus Christ late? Did God make a promise that time has exposed as empty? Has the clock of heaven stopped thickening? Or could it be that the problem is not with Christ's promise? But with our understanding of God's timing? Listen, I want to assure you today that human timing is measured by clock and calendars, but God's timing is measured by wisdom, purpose, and eternity. The supposedly delay of Christ's return is not proof that his promise has failed. It is proof that his mercy is still operating. The word interpret delay as weakness. Heaven interprets delay as patience. What seems slow to human impatient is often perfected in God's design because He sees the end long before we see the beginning. Listening to the word of God in 2 Peter chapter 3 verse 9. The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness, but is patient towards you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. In other words, every extra day the word wake up is not evident that Christ has forgotten his promise. It is evident that God is still extending mercy to sinners. Every song right is another opportunity to repent. Every year that passes is another invitation to return to God. Every moment of delay is heavy giving humanity one more chance before judgment arrives. So, the real question is not the real question is this. What will we say when the time God entrusted to us is finished and account of our life is open? Are we spending the days God has given us chasing temporary and vanity things or preparing our souls for eternity? These are the questions that need answer from me and from you. Because one day the patience of God will reach his appointed end. One day the trumpet will sound. One day the sky will spread open. One day the one who left this world will return exactly as a promise. And on that day, no one will be asking whether Jesus was late. They will only wish they had been ready. On that day, arguments will fall silent, excuses will disappear, and every soul will stand face to face with the truth it once ignored. On that day, the question will not be how long the world waited, but whether our hearts were prepared to meet the King of Glory. There is no doubt. Again in Revelation chapter 22, verse 12, Jesus said, Behold, I am coming quickly, and my reward is with me. And again in Matthew chapter 24, verse 30, he said, Then we see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. The message of the New Testament is unmistakable. Jesus Christ came once, he will come again. The second coming is not a metaphor, it is not poetry, it is not symbolic language, it is a future historical event. It is certain to happen. The second coming is not a rumor passed through generations, it is a promise spoken by Christ Himself. Heaven has recorded it, history is moving towards it, and nothing on earth can cancel it. The second coming is not delayed by weakness or forgettiveness. It move forward according to God's perfect plan. And when the appointed moment arrives, the King of Kings will appear. In Revelation chapter 22, verse 7, Jesus said, Look, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll. When Jesus says son, the real question is, What does son mean? The difficulty comes from one word. But two thousand years have passed, and here is where many people stumble. They assume Jesus was speaking using human time, but God does not operate on human clocks, He never does. We humans have created our own calendar. Over the years, human beings measure time using different systems that they invented. That civilization created calendar based on different factors. Agricultural circus, religious festival, astronomy, observation, political authority and cultural tradition. Over the century, these calendars have changed repeatedly. They have changed. For example, the ancient Egyptians had one calendar, the Babylon has another, the Hebrews has another calendar, the Romans has another. These calendars do not align with each other. Then in 1582 AD, Pope Gregory the Turchin introduced the Gregorian calendar, which much of the world uses today. But even today, as I'm speaking to you and you are hearing me, the world does not share the one universal calendar. For example, China uses a traditional lunar calendar, the Islamic world uses a lunar calendar, Hindu society use their own system. The Ethiopia's calendar is about seven years behind the Gregorian calendar and has 13 months in a year, 13 months in a year. Think about that. Human beings cannot even agree on what year it is. Some nations say it is one year, others say it is another. Yet people confidently accuse God of being late. 2026 in Gregorian calendar is 5786 in Hebrew calendar. It is 1447 in Islamic calendar and 2018 in Ethiopian calendar and so on and so forth. Satan uses confusion in human time to create doubt. Satan is a master of confusion, and today he whispers another question where is the promise of his coming? Satan knows something. If he can convince people that Jesus is not returning, people will live without accountability. If people believe Christ will never return, they will continue in sin. If people believe Jesus is not coming back and that there's no judgment, they will convince themselves that every evil can be practiced without consequences and every sin can be hidden without accountability. If people believe there's no final judgment, conscience becomes negotiable, and morality becomes whether the human heart desires at the moment. People mock the return of Christ because they want freedom to continue in sin. It is obviously clear that God's calendar is not human calendar. While He was on earth, Jesus Christ gave us a glimpse that his time is different from ours. Four times in the book of John, Jesus repeated this phrase: My time has not yet come. My time has not yet come. Especially when people think it is time for him. This indicates he is not operating on human timing but defined timing. Now listen carefully to the explanation the Holy Spirit gave through Peter in 2 Peter chapter 3, verse 8. But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. This verse changes everything. One day in God's calendar is a thousand years in human calendar. The second coming of Christ is not tied to the data, to the date printed on human walls. It is tied to the sovereign plan of God. Heaven's timetable is not adjusted by human impatient. God does not experience time the way humans do. God does not use our eye watch or war calendars. Humans are prisoners of time. God is Lord over time. Human measure time by clock. God created time itself. Think about this. According to our human calendar, Jesus left the earth about 2,000 years ago. But if 1,000 years equal one day to God, then in God's timeline, Jesus ascended two days ago. Two days, not 2,000 years. Two days. From God's perspective, the promise of Christ's return is not ancient history, it is recent. It is clear it is unfolding exactly according to his defined plan. But Peter, oh, I love Apostle Peter. He continued, he didn't stop, he continued in 2 Peter chapter 3, verse 9. He said, The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He said, He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. Why has Christ not returned yet? Because God is giving humanity time to repent. Every extra year is mercy, every sunrise is grace. Every breath you take is an opportunity to turn to God to repent. Because when Christ returns, the age of mercy will end. Because when Christ returns, the door of repentance will close and the time for choosing will be finished. Because when Christ returns, faith will give way to sight, and every soul will stand before the truth, it wants accepted or rejected. The return of Christ will be solid. It will not be gradual like many deceivers are projecting. Jesus warned in Matthew chapter 24, verse 44. Therefore, you also must be ready. For the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. The return of Christ will not be scheduled on human calendars. No government will announce it. No scientists will predict it. Though they try. No prophet will calculate it. It will happen suddenly, and all of us alive will not miss this great event. When Jesus arrives, you will not need a phone call or a newspaper to announce it. No television brokers will break the news. No social media alive will require. Do not be deceived. His return will not be a secret event hidden in a corner of the heart. It will not be something that only a few witnesses report. The coming of Christ will be a cosmetic event that interrupts the entire world at once. Jesus Himself made it clear, for as the lighting comes from east and flashes to the west, so also will the Son of the coming of the Son of Man be. Matthew chapter 24, verse 27. If you can recollect, lighting does not ask permission before it flashes across the sky. It does not quiet appear in one village and then slowly travel by rumor to the next city. When lighting strikes the sky, the whole horizon sees it in a moment. That is how the return of Christ will be. No matter where you live, east or west, north or south, city or villages, mountain or desert, every eye will see it. The Bible says plainly, behold, he is coming with a cloud, and every eye will see him. That is Revelation chapter 1, verse 7. Every eye we see it. Every eye we see it. No eye will be blind to it. Every eye will see it. The farmer in the field we see him. The businessman in his office will see him. The traveler in the sky will see him. The prisoner in the cell will see him. The rich and the poor we see him. No border will block it. No government will control it. No technology we mediate it. The king of glory will appear. And the whole human race will know in an instant that the day has arrived. On that day, the world will not be debating whether Christ is coming back. The world will be standing before him. Hear me where today, the greater danger is not the delay. The real danger is not that Christ has delayed. The real danger is that people think they have more time than they actually do. That is the danger. Even if Christ returns tomorrow or in a hundred years, one change is certain. Every human being has an appointment with them. Don't forget that. That is certainty. Hebrew chapter 9, verse 27 says. Said, it is appointed for a man to die once, and after that comes judgment. You may not live to see the second coming, but you will certainly face the first moment of eternity. Jesus Christ gave a clear command in Matthew chapter 26, verse 41. Say, watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. To watch and pray is not passive religion, it is not some advice, but a firm command from our captain Jesus. It is active spiritual warfare. He was not asking his fellows to stand around like a status waiting for heaven to move. The word watch in scripture means to stay spiritually alert, awake and vigilant. It is the picture of someone whose eyes are open, whose mind is sharp, and whose heart is on guard. Watching is not standing in one place like a sleeping night guy leaning on a wall. Watching is living with spiritual awareness. It means you refuse to drift through life spiritually asleep. It means you examine what enters your mind, what shape your desire, and what influence your decision. Because temptation rarely attacks suddenly. Most things begin as small, unguided moment. A believer who is not watching is like a city with broken walls. That is why 1 Peter chapter 5, verse 6 says, be sober-minded, be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, pulls around like a roaring lion seeking someone to divorce. The devil does not waste time chasing people who are alert. He haunts those who are careless. Let me tell you a secret today. I hope you learn from it and apply it. The devil does not tremble at those who talk about faith. He trembles at those who live in obedience, prayer, and vigilance. The devil does not spend his strength attacking those who are already asleep with sin. He concentrates on keeping them comfortable so they will never wake up. Going back to what Jesus said in Matthew chapter 26, verse 41. Now notice Jesus did not only say watch. He said, Watch and pray. Watching, keep your eyes open. Pray, keep your heart connected to God. Prayer is not a ritual to perform. Prayer is the lifeline of the soul. Prayer is where weakness receives strength. Prayer is where confusion receives clarity. Prayer is where temptation loses its power. A person who watches without praying becomes a self-confident, and you don't want to do that. A person who prays without watching becomes careless, you don't want to do that either. But when you watch and pray, something powerful happens. Your eyes are open to danger. Your heart is anchored in God, your spirit is strengthened against temptation. Hallelujah! Watching, protect your mind. Pray, strengthen your soul. And when a believer truly lives this way, Satan discovers something frightening. This is not a careless Christian. This is a guided soul. That is why Jesus Christ won his disciple. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. Your spirit may love God, but if you stop watching and praying, your flesh will lead you into places your spirit never intended to go. So, to watch and pray means you live every day with spiritual awareness, humility, and dependence on God. You stay a lot, you stay guided, you stay connected to God because the believer who watches and pray will not easily fall. But deliver, but the believer who sleeps spiritually will eventually stubble. So Jesus still speaks the same command to his church today. Still speak to you today. Watch, pray, stay ready. The attitude of believer should not be skepticism, it should be readiness. So, in conclusion, my dear friend, I want to assure you that Jesus Christ is not late. God promise has not failed. God is not confused about the calendar, he is not distracted, he is not delayed, he is patient, and we should thank him for that. On a personal note, I thank him for his patience. I cannot imagine where I will be if Jesus Christ came before I gave my life to him. I cannot imagine. I cannot imagine if he has come before I repent for my sin. Before repentance become my daily son, if he has come. So are the millions of souls that are lost and still have chance to meet Jesus Christ. But the patience of God will not last forever. One day the trumpet will sound, one day the heavens will open, one day the king will return. And on that day, the question will no longer be why has Jesus not returned? The question will be, Where were you ready when he came? So watch, pray, repent, obey, believe, and live every day as if Christ could return that day. Because one day, sooner than the word expects, the promise will be fulfilled. Behold, I am coming quickly. Revelation chapter 22, verse 12. Is Jesus Christ late? No, Christ is not late. Heaven has never missed an appointment, and God has never been delayed by clocks of men. What many people call delay is actually mercy. Every sunrise you see, every breath you take, every day the world continues is another opportunity. God is giving to humanity to turn to Him. But mercy has a window. The same Bible that promises is coming also warned that the day will arrive suddenly. The door that is open today will not remain open forever. The age of grace will not last indefinitely. So, when we are waiting for the second coming of Jesus Christ or waiting for the certain moment when each one of us will leave this world and urge you today. If you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, come to him. Do not postpone the most important decision of your life. Do not postpone it. Come to him today, and he will perform. He will exchange your fear of judgment for the assurance of eternal life. He will change your spiritual death for new life. He will change your wandering heart for a new heart that desire God. He will change your broken past for a redeemed future. At the cross, Jesus took what belonged to us so that we could receive what belonged to him. He took our sin so we could receive his righteousness. He took our punishment so that we can receive his mercy. He took our death so we could receive his life. This invitation is open today. But the day we come when the trumpet will sound, the heaven will open, and the king of glory will appear. On that day, there will be no more time to prepare. Today is the day of salvation. Today is the day of mercy. Today is the day to come to Christ. Dear brothers and sisters, do not ask whether Jesus is late. Ask whether you are ready. Do not ask whether Jesus is late. Ask whether your life is aligned with his will. Do not ask whether Jesus is late. Ask whether your soul has truly surrendered to his authority. Do not ask whether Jesus is late. Ask whether you are prepared to stand before him when he appears. Thank you. For joining Faith Hour by Faith Wallet Global Gospel Ministry today.
