I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD"
“I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD” | Powerful Christian Sermon on John 8:12
Jesus Christ declared, “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12, NIV). In a world darkened by sin, deception, hatred, confusion, and unbelief, Jesus remains the only true Light who can rescue the lost, expose darkness, transform lives, and lead sinners into eternal life.
In this powerful message from the Seven “I AM” Declarations of Jesus Christ, Evangelist Dr. Gabriel Oluwakotanmi explains what it means for Jesus to be the Light of the World—and what happens when people reject His light.
Are you genuinely following Jesus, or are you still walking in spiritual darkness? Has the light of Christ transformed your character, conduct, relationships, and attitude toward sin? A Christianity that produces no transformation is merely a religious label.
Watch this sermon prayerfully, examine your life honestly, and respond to the call of Jesus Christ. Come out of darkness. Repent of your sins. Believe the gospel. Surrender your life to Jesus Christ and walk in His marvelous light.

Jesus loving that Jesus Christ Before the sun was holding the head Before the stars began to shine Jesus Christ the everlasting word was rolling the glory divine darkness the water divide the body we wanted from God we chose the broad order destruction and rejected his holy new earth but Jesus came in love and birth bringing hope to the last Jesus Christ is the only light that can lead humanity out of darkness hello everyone thank you for joining us today welcome to Faith Hour where the light of God shines brightest against spiritual darkness exposing deception awakening sleepy soul and guiding the lost to Jesus Christ the light of the world the light of the world is the unquestionable light of God's word that comforts the darkness of sin breaks the shade of spiritual blindness and lead every believing heart to the light of life last week if you are following this series which I hope you will we spoke on Jesus Christ the bread of life and that physical bread can sustain your body only for a while but Jesus Christ gives eternal life to the soul that believe follow obey and repent from all of their sins today this is the second part of the saving declaration of I am of Jesus Christ as I said in the first series the same I am declaration of Jesus Christ are explosive revelation of his divine identity his saving power and his eternal authority every I am declaration refills why Jesus Christ is not merely one option among many but the only Savior who can rescue sinners and give eternal life to understand and believe the seven I am declaration is to confirm the truth about salvation without Jesus Christ humanity remains spiritually hungry blind in the darkness lost separated from God and eternally dead beloved imagine waking up one night to discover that every source of physical light has disappeared the sun no longer rises the moon and star have vanished every lamp has gone out and every electrical light has failed the world discovered in absolute darkness roads become dangerous business is close and transportation stop and fear spread across the nation people stretch out their hands searching for direction but they cannot see what is directly in front of them they cannot watch or see their favorite shows on the TV they cannot even see me preaching within momentity realized that physical light is not a luxury it is essential to life such is the life of everyone who does not have Jesus Christ in their life without Jesus Christ souls are in darkness without Jesus Christ the light of the world every soul remains trapped in spiritual darkness blinded by sin and walking towards eternal destruction reject the light of Jesus Christ and your soul will wander through the darkness of sin until death open the door to an eternity full of darkness without God brothers and sisters this is the darkness far more dangerous than the absence of the sun or neon light that are available in our house it is possible to stand beneath the darkness of the non-day sun while your soul remains in prison in spiritual darkness. You may have perfect physical eyesight and still be blind to God. You may understand science, technology, medicine, economy and politics and still fail to understand the condition of your soul. You may see the road leading to your earthly home but remain unable to recognize the only road that leads to eternal life with God. Physical darkness hides the things around us spiritual darkness hides the truth about God, sin, salvation, judgment and eternity physical blindness affects the eyes but spiritual blindness affects the mind, the heart, conscience, decision, conduct and eternal destiny physical light enable the eyes to see the world but spiritual light enable the soul to see the truth of God. It was unto a world covered by darkness of sin that Jesus Christ stood and made one of the greatest impactful magnificent divine declaration ever had a lamp the light of the world whoever follow me will never walk in darkness but we have the light of life John chapter 8 verse 12 think about it for a second the implication of Jesus declaration as secondary and eternal firstly it is an introduction to those who do not know Jesus Christ. Secondly it is an invitation that all of us are in darkness and need the light of Jesus Christ in our life and thirdly it is an invitation to those living in the darkness of sin come to the light of God in Jesus Christ come Jesus Christ is the light of the world whoever refuses to follow him remain guided by sin and walk deeper into spiritual darkness. When the light of Christ enters a surrender heart and darkness of sin deception and commendation and condemnation must flee. If you decide to follow Jesus Christ today his light will lead you out of darkness transform your soul and guide you into eternal life darkness in the Bible is far more than the absence of sunlight. It represents sin it represents rebellion it represents deception it represents good it represents hopelessness it represents spiritual blindness a person may possess a brilliant mind and yet be working in darkness. A university degree cannot remove spiritual blindness scientific discovery cannot forgive sin. Artificial intelligence cannot reveal God technology can illuminate a city but it cannot illuminate a human heart we have physical light to illuminate our whole street and city but physical light cannot illuminate the human soul see the world around us but it cannot enable our heart to recognize the holiness of God the seriousness of our sin and our desperate need for salvation humanity has developed electricity build brightly illuminated city and make remarkable technology discovery and yet it remains usually blind without Jesus Christ. This is why Christ came into the world he did not come merely to improve human knowledge or introduce another religion as most people erroneously believe he came as God's answers to humanity spiritual darkness. Jesus revealed who God is, expose the destruction nature of sin, show us the way of salvation and give eternal life to everyone who follow him we may have light in our building while darkness control our heart we may see clearly with our physical eyes why stumbling blindly towards eternity we may possess advanced education and see faith to understand the condition of our soul without Jesus Christ humanity may be intellectually informed technology technologically advanced and materially prosperous yet remain spiritually lost. Therefore Jesus is not simply another light among many He is the only true light capable of rescuing humanity from spiritual darkness. The sun can illuminate your face but only Jesus Christ can illuminate your soul electricity can brighten your house but only Jesus Christ can brighten your heart with truth of God physical light can guide you through the night but only Jesus Christ can guide you through the life death judgment and into everlasting fellowship with God spiritual light expose sin. Physical light reveals death in room than darkness conceal in the same manner the the light of Christ exposed attitude desire habit and action that offend God chapter 3 verse 19 to 20 explain clearly the heart of humanity to death this is the verdict light has come into the world that people love darkness instead of light because their deeds are evil everyone who does heal hate the light and will not come into the light for fear that their deed will be exposed. John chapter 3 verse 19 to 20 this explains why some people resist Jesus Christ they are not always rejecting him because the truth is unclear sometimes they reject him because his truth is too refelling. The word of Jesus Christ confronts our pride our hypocrisy our sexual immorality our hatred our greed our forgiveness disobedience and our unbelief but Jesus does not expose sin merely to disgrace us he exposes it so that we may confess it turn from it receive forgiveness and be transformed in our heart spiritual light shows the way to salvation a lighthouse a lighthouse one ship a dangerous rock and guide sailors towards safety jesus girls far more in the only way sinner can be reconciled to God Jesus said I am the way and the truth and the life no one comes to Father except through me John chapter 14 verse 6 physical light may help you find your way home but only Jesus Christ can lead you to the heavenly father religion cannot replace him church attendance cannot replace him good work cannot pay for sinus died on the cross for our sin was buried and rose again everyone who repent and trust in him receive forgiveness and eternal life spiritual life produces life everlasting with God physical light is essential to life on earth plants depend upon soul light food system depend upon plants and human life depends upon those systems yet physical light cannot give eternal life to a spiritual dead soul Jesus said whoever follow me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life John chapter 8 verse 12 Jesus does not merely provide information he gives life he awakened the spiritually dead forgives the guilty restore the broken and bring lost people into fellowship with God a candle can be blown out an electric light can fade the sun can be hidden from the view by cloud or eclipse but no power of darkness can defeat Jesus Christ. John chapter 1 verse 15 declares with authority the light shine in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it humanity crucified Jesus but the grave could not hold him Satan opposed him but could not defeat him death comforted him but could not conquer him Jesus rose triumphantly and his light continues to shine across the world the darkness may rage same may spread and hell may roar but the light of Jesus Christ shine with unstoppable power and the darkness can never overcome him when the light of Jesus Christ invades a repentant heart every shame of sin every lie of Satan every strong brother of darkness must surrender. Darkness cannot extinguish Jesus Christ therefore whoever stands in him will not be conquered by the spiritual darkness consuming this world those who receive Christ must reflect his light that is the goal of this message Jesus not only called himself the light of the world he told his followers you are the light of the world a town built on the hill cannot be hidden Matthew chapter 5 verse 14 Christians are not the original source of spiritual light. We are more like a moon which reflect the light of the sun we will reflect Christ through holy conduct love compassion truth forgiveness justice faithful service and courageous proclamation of the gospel Jesus continued let your light shine before others that they may see your good deed and glorify you your father in heaven Matthew chapter 5 verse 16 a Christian who claim to possess the light while deliberately living in darkness contradicts that confession the purpose of light is to shine the question now is are you the light of the world? Are you brothers and sisters Jesus did not save you to hide in the shadow he made you the light of the world so your life will expose darkness and concept sinners to Christ a Christian who continually compromised with darkness cannot faithfully shine the light of Christ your conduct must confirm the faith your lips proclaim this dying word does not need another silent believer. It needs Christian whose holiness love courage and obedience shine so brightly that people see Jesus through them what does it mean for a Christian to be the light of the world what does he mean Christian must live feasibly a transformed life Jesus said a town built on a hill cannot be hidden true Christianity cannot remain completely infeasible. Faith begins with the heart but it must become feasible through our conduct priority relationship speeches and choices a Christian behavior should demonstrate that Jesus has changed that person people should see honesty where deception is common priority where immorality is celebrated forgiveness where bitterness is expected and humility where pride rose brothers and sisters if our profession of faith never affects our behavior something is dangerously wrong a Christianity that produces no transformation is merely a religious labor. I submit it to you today I'm sorry if you have never had it from anyone before I am sorry a faith that never cleans your appetite for sin and waking your hunger for holiness or change your conduct is not a saving faith. It is a religious deception dressed in Christian clothing. If your lip proclaim Jesus as Lord while your life continually bow before sin your Christianity is nearly an empty confession hiding an unrepentant height any gospel you claim to believe that leaves you comfortable in rebellion unchanged in character and untouched by disobedience is not the transforming gospel of Jesus Christ. Christian must practice good work that glorify God Jesus commanded let your light shine before others that they may see your good dead and glorify your father in heaven hallelujah Matthew chapter 5 persisting good works do not purchase salvation we are saved by grace through faith not by works however the faith that saves us produce a transformed life devoted to good works believers shine when they feed the hungry care for the sovereign defend the vulnerable show hospitality to strangers and encourage the discouraged forgive offenders and serve without seeking recognition the purpose is not to make people praise us it is to make our heavenly father feasible through us if our good deed continually advertise ourselves instead of glorifying God we have misunderstood the purpose of the Christian must proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. Light does not merely behave differently from darkness, it refrains the way out of darkness. Christian must clearly tell others that Jesus died for our sin, rose from the dead, and offer forgiveness and eternal life to everyone who repent and believe. Paul wrote, For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord. 2 Corinthians chapter 4, verse 5. Living a kind life is important, but kindness alone does not explain the cross. People must hear why Christ died, why repentance is necessary, and how they can be reconciled to God. We must not become ashamed of the gospel to gain the world's approval. A lamp that refuses to shine because darkness might object has abandoned his purpose. Christians must expose darkness with truth. Paul instructed believers, have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. Ephesians chapter 5, verse 11. Being light means refusing to approve what God calls sin. Christians must lovingly but courageously confront deception, injustice, sexual immorality, corruption, hatred, greed, hypocrisy, and unbelief. However, we must confront darkness without becoming hateful, arrogant, or self-righteousness. Our objective is not to destroy sinners but to call them towards the serial. Truth without love can become harshness, while love without truth become spiritual compromise. Christ calls us to speak the truth in love. Christian must live holy life. Apostle Paul wrote, For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the word. Live as children of light. Christian cannot reflect the light of Christ while intentionally embracing the work of darkness. We cannot continually practice dishonesty, hatred, immorality, unforgiveness, greed, and drunkenness. Why claim that Jesus governs our life? Holiness does not make Christian never stumble. It means we no longer make peace with any sin. When we fall, we confess, we repent, we receive God's forgiveness, and we rise to walk again in obedience to our Lord. The light becomes obscure when believers imitate the world they were called to illuminate. Christians must demonstrate love and compassion. Jesus said, By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another. John chapter 13, verse 35. You cannot claim to follow Jesus Christ while harboring hatred and racial prejudice. Because the mark of his disciples is love, not hostility, discrimination, or contempt. Racism dressed in church clothing is still sin. If you praise God with your lips, while despising people because of their race, you conduct your conduct denies the Christ you profess to serve. The cross, leave no room for racial hatred. Christ shed his blood for people from every tribe, language, people, and nation. And anyone who refuses to love others must repent and surrender that poison heart to Jesus Christ. The light of Christ is feasible. When believers are loved sacrificially, forgive sincerely, welcome outsiders, bear one another burdens and care for those society ignores. The world has had many Christian words. It also needs to witness Christian corruption. When our preaching is fairy, but our hearts are queer, we may misrepresent Jesus. Biblical light contain both uncompromising truth and genuine compassion. Christians must provide guidance and hope. People surrounded by darkness need someone who knows the way. Christians shine by pointing. Comforting the broken, praying for the sovereign and showing that despair does not have the final word. We will not claim that believers are free from pain. We testify that Christ remains faithful in pain. We will not pretend that death is only. We proclaim that Jesus conquered death and promises resurrection and eternal life. A believer should be a carrier of hope in places dominated by fear. Christian must shine everywhere. A lamp is useless if it's if it shines only inside a bright and illuminated room. Christian are called to shiny homes, workplaces, school, businesses, neighborhood, government and public life. Jesus said, When I do people light a lamp and put it under a bow, your Christianity must not disappear when you leave church. If you sing worship song on Sunday but mistreat people on Monday, your testimony is contradicted. If you preach holiness publicly while practicing hidden sin privately, you are placing a cover over the light. The world does not merely listen to what Christians say, it watches how Christians live. Let us take this note seriously. This is a serious warning for all of us. Jesus said that believers are the light of the world. This is both a private and responsibility. It's a privilege and responsibility. Someone may form an opinion about Jesus by observing your life. Your integrity may help someone recognize the truth of the gospel. Why your hypocrisy may become a stumbling block? You are not called to blend into darkness, negotiate with darkness or hide from darkness. You are called to shine with it. Do not cross the darkness while hiding your lamp. Do not preach about Christ while refusing to resemble him. Do not claim to carry heaven's light while deliberately participating in the works of the darkness. Let your word carry out the truth. Let your conduct display holiness. Let your hand perform good work. Let your heart demonstrate compassion. Let your life point people towards Christ. Christ is the source. We are his reflectors. Christ is the message. We are his weaknesses. Christ is the light. We are the lamp through which his light must shine. Physical light can show you the road beneath your feet, but only Jesus can show the road that leads to eternal life. Physical light can reflect death upon your clothing, but the light of Christ reflects sin within your heart. Physical light can guide you through the night, but only Jesus Christ can guide you through death and bring you safely into the presence of God. The decisive question is not merely, can you see the world around you? Come out of the darkness, repent of your sin. Place your faith in Jesus Christ, the crucified and risen Savior. Follow him, and you will no longer walk through destruction in spiritual darkness. You will possess the light of life. Beloved, as I am concluding this message, the eternal consequences of rejecting Jesus Christ, the only light of the world is too terrified to ignore. Can you imagine closing your eyes in death and awakening in eternity without Jesus Christ? Without his saving presence, without hope, without another opportunity to repent, without any possibility of escaping the consequences of sin. But let us be biblically clear. Jesus called us to repent and follow him while we are still alive. While we are alive, after death, he will now return to lead an unbelieving soul out of darkness and into heaven. The opportunity to receive salvation is now. The time to repent is now. After death comes judgment, not another opportunity to recognise to reconsider the gospel. There will be no second altar call beyond the grave. There will be no preacher calling you to repent from the other side of eternity. There will be no opportunity to return and correct the decision you made concerning Jesus Christ. Without Jesus Christ, the light of the world, every road eventually leads into spiritual darkness and eternal separation from God. Whoever rejects Jesus in this life, rejects the only light who can lead a sinful soul safely into the glorious presence of God. There is no light beyond Christ, no salvation apart from Christ, and no eternal hope without Christ. The soul that turns away from him chooses darkness. This is not ordinary physical darkness. It is the terrible and irreversible condition of being excluded from God's kingdom, separated from the joy of his presence and facing the righteous judgment of God. Can you imagine the horror of recognizing when it is eternal and it is suddenly too late that Jesus was to be the light of the world? Can you imagine remembering every sermon you ignore, every warning you dismiss, every invitation you postpone, and every opportunity to repent that you wasted. You had the gospel, but you refuse to believe. The light call you, but you prefer the darkness. Mercy, open the door, but you you will not enter. Listener. Do not gabble with your soul. Do not allow pride, pleasures, possession, false religion, secretly, or the approval of people to keep you from Jesus Christ. Everything you are holding today will eventually slip away from your hand. Everything. Your money will belong to someone else. Your position will be filled by another person. Your body will return to dust. But your soul will enter eternity, and your relationship with Jesus Christ will determine where you stand before God. You know, John chapter 3, verse 19, give this solemn predict. Light has come to the world, but the people love darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. What a tragedy! To be surrounded by light of the gospel, yet chooses darkness. What a tragedy. To hear about the cross but continue clinging to sin. What a tragedy. To know that Jesus died and rose again, yet you refuse to surrender to him. You may hide your sin from your family, your congregation, and your friend, but you cannot hide them from the light of the world. Jesus sees the sacred habit, concealed bitterness, hidden immorality, religious hypocrisy, pride, great unforgiveness, and rebellion that others cannot see. Jesus sees everything. Yet he exposes your darkness because he loves you and desires to save you. Before I close this message, there are questions that only you can answer. There are questions only you can answer, but I warn you, answer them with absolute sincerity. Because God already knows the truth. Before the question leaves my lips, am I walking in the light of Christ? Or am I hiding in spiritual darkness? Are there secret scenes in my life that I refuse to bring into God's light? Does my lifestyle point people toward Jesus Christ or does it drive them away from him? Am I truly living differently from the unbelieving world? Does my testimony shine at home, at work, in the church and in the public? And am I allowing the truth of God to expose, correct, and transform me? Will those who know me best honestly describe me as a light of Jesus Christ? Do not hide behind religious appearances. Do not answer according to what you want others to believe about you. Stand before the searching light of God and tell yourself the truth. You may deceive your family, you may impress your church, you may fool your pastor, you may even deceive yourself, but you can never deceive God. If your honest answer to any of these questions is no, then it is time to repent and return to Jesus Christ, the light of the world. This is your invitation. Come to the light. Come out of the darkness of sin. Come out of unbelief. Come out of hypocrisy. Come out of rebellion. Come out of compromise. Stop defending what God condemned. Stop making excuses for your disobedience. Stop. Stop postponing your surrender as though tomorrow were guaranteed. No, tomorrow is not guarantee for anybody. Repent of your sin and place your faith in Jesus Christ today, who died on the cross for your sin and rose triumphantly from the grave. Jesus declared in John chapter 8, verse 12, whoever follow me will never walk in darkness, but we have the light of life. John chapter 8, verse 12. Notice that this promise is not merely for those who admire Jesus, sing about Jesus, preach about Jesus, or occasionally attend churches. It is for those who follow Him. Those who follow Jesus Christ. To follow Christ means to trust Him, surrender to His authority, turn away from sin, obey His word and follow Him to govern every area of your lives. That's what you need to follow Jesus. You cannot claim to follow the light while deliberately walking in darkness. You cannot embrace sin with one hand and claim to embrace Jesus Christ with the other hand. No. You cannot continually reject his command and still pretend that he is the love of your life. The light of Christ does not come merely to comfort you, he comes to expose you, cleanse you, correct you, and transform you. I'm telling you. One day, the physical light of this present world will disappear from your eyes. They will. The sun will rise, but you will not see it. One day. The lamp will shine, but you will no longer need death. One day. Your earthly journey will be over, and your soul will stand before God. But what a glorious eternity awaits everyone who belongs to Jesus Christ. Hallelujah. Revelation chapter 21, verse 23 declares the city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it. For the glory of God give it light, and the lamp is lamp. No more night, no more death, no more sorrow, no more pain, no more fear, no more separation from God. What today will be if you believe in Jesus? The redeemed will live forever in the presence of their Creator. And Jesus Christ, the Lamp of God, will be their everlasting light. Hallelujah. But hear this warning clearly. Those who continually reject the light in this life cannot expect to enjoy his glory in eternity. If you keep turning away from Jesus Christ, you are not standing still. You are moving deeper into darkness. Every rejected warning hiding the heart, every postponed act of repentance, straighten the shades of sin. Every deliberate step away from Christ, bring the soul closer to judgment. Do not wait until death exposes what pride refuses to admit in life. Do not wait until judgment confirms what the gospel has already declared. Do not wait until it reflects that Jesus Christ was the only light capable of saving your soul. Come to Jesus Christ now. Please do. Confess that you are a sinner. Ask him for forgiveness right now. Repent from your sin. Place your faith in his death and resurrection. Surrender your life completely to him. Please do. Let the light of Christ expose what was. Confessed, clean what sin has polluted, break what Satan has banned, and transform what darkness has corrupted. Let Jesus Christ do it in your life. Do not enter eternity without Jesus Christ. Do not face death without light of life. Do not allow eternal darkness to overtake your soul. While the Savior is calling into his wonderful light today. May the Lord open the eyes of your heart. Bring every hidden walk of darkness into his light and give you the courage to walk faithfully with Jesus Christ. Amen. May your life shine so brightly that all that will see Christ through you and glorify your Father in heaven. Amen. Beloved listener. This concludes the second message in our semi-pass series.
