This podcast seeks to have persons tell their real life stories, because why? Everybody has a story, whether it's a great story or an unpleasant one, whatever their story is, it has shaped them to be the person they are today. Our past has shaped us, but it doesn't define us.

But it's a good story , or it's a positive story , or it's a negative story . Whatever happened in our life made us to be the person that we are today . So , moses , just tell me a little about yourself .
Speaker 2Well , I'm the last son of Willard and Rovinda Cooper Born grew up in Millis , Long Island . Went to school NGM major . After graduating I moved to Grand Bahama looking for job opportunities and I worked several places . One of the first places , was at AID . And then on Centex and after Centex close in 2001 , I joined the gaming board for the Bahamas government .
Speaker 3And then 2005, . I went back into the pharmaceutical industry .
Speaker 2For the Syntex we opened , but under a different name . It's named Pharmakym Technology . I'm married , my wife Carla One and only Carla . Carla , yeah , carla .
Speaker 3Bode .
Speaker 2And we have two beautiful children , Kaniko and Cristano .
Speaker 1Great , great , great . So you met Carla right there in Grand Bahama .
Speaker 2Yeah , right in Grand Bahama .
Speaker 1Okay , so love at first sight .
Speaker 2Let me tell you how it happened . I was awake one day and I got a phone call and I was Carla's sister on the next set .
Speaker 1Ah , patricia , patricia Meadows , okay .
Speaker 2She said Carlos just graduated my school . She want me to take Carla to a prom . Ah , she's a set up . Yeah , both of us attend the same church , Okay , you know . So I said , take her to the prom . I said , well , I have to check my schedule .
Speaker 2You're right so it went from there . I had to check my schedule . Oh yeah , you're right , you had a schedule , so it went from there . You know , I took her to the prom and when I took her to the prom her mom said make sure I have her home by 11 pm . Oh , wow . Yeah .
Speaker 1So I honored that .
Speaker 2She gave you curfew , yeah , I honored that by 11 pm I had her there . Yeah , so I honored that she gave you curfew . Yeah , I honored that I had my WP and my other deal . Okay , you know and that's when I asked her . So I asked her , I said he's talking , and I asked her about marriage . You know , she said me I ain't got .
Speaker 1marriage , I ain't got marriage .
Speaker 2See , I got to go to college and stuff I said boy , next 10 years .
Speaker 1So I said okay .
Speaker 2But that's when I the single week , not 10 years .
Speaker 1How old were you at the time ?
Speaker 2I was 20 .
Speaker 1Oh , okay , but 10 years would have been good . Yeah , you'd have been 30 . Yeah , I died nine years old , yeah , so I kind of like green bacala , that one yeah , but that one yeah , but . But so from there on y'all just build a relationship . Then , yeah , okay , that was good , that was good . And and then after that , then you guys got married . I remember I stood in y'all wedding .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1The Las Vegas team wedding .
Speaker 2Yeah , yeah .
Speaker 1I remember that we were the show girls . Yeah , it was yeah , yeah , it was nice . Yeah , it was a beautiful wedding , beautiful wedding that we stood there , and it was at Grand Bahama . What was that place's name ?
Speaker 2again Bahama's Princess .
Speaker 1Bahama's Princess Casino and Tower , casino Towers or something like that , but I remember the wedding was performed by the one and only Reverend Frederick Marklepine the one and only Marklepine .
Speaker 2The one and only .
Speaker 1There's no other Frederick Markle Pine . The one and only Markle Pine , the one and only . There's no other Frederick Markle Pine . Yeah , but I do remember that wedding . It was a beautiful wedding and then afterwards you all had two kids .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1Kanikwa , kanikwa , yeah . And then I don't know if you all had Kanikwa . Look , you all wasn't going to have no other one .
Speaker 2And then here comes Cristiano .
Speaker 1There's a big gap in between .
Speaker 2Yeah , it happened . Mother came down and three boys and she said you're all being selfish . She said it's only this girl by herself . She didn't have another child .
Speaker 1Mother loved grandchildren . That's why .
Speaker 2Yeah , she just said come on , come on . You know so one day , and carla was sponsored by the equal room and and we here . She was playing for the , for the dolls , and she's talking to the dolls like , like , just uh , like like the children uh yourself . Where were you yourself ? Yeah , she had no , she had nobody played with . I said said , carla , I think it's time for us To try and have another one , yeah , and then God bless you all with Cristano .
Speaker 1Cristano , yeah , yeah . So I know that there was an incident right that happened with Cristano , and I think this is one of the biggest stories of your life .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1Because it has really tested your faith .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1It brought you both closer to God , I'm sure .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1And it made you to rely on the faith of God and it was really a testing time . So I would like to hear more about the story . I'm sure the audience would like to hear about the story about Cristiano .
Speaker 2Yeah , I'm sure the audience would like to hear about this story about Cristiano . Yeah , it was , but I was at work . I never get this
Cristiano's Medical Emergency Journey
Speaker 2. 2011 , christmas Day .
Speaker 1How old was Cristiano at the time ? He was eight .
Speaker 2Okay , he was eight and I was at work and I got the phone call Say I must come , it's emergency , come to the hospital , you know . So I , of course , I dropped everything , I went to the hospital . I went to the hospital , I met my wife and outside of the family , she was there , you know , and Kanikwa and and Kristano . He was just just like was out of it . You know he's weak , he couldn't speak .
Speaker 2He was just weak , you know , and so , and this , this eyes wasn't , the pupil wasn't moving at all , it wasn't dilating , dilating . Oh wow , he couldn't he couldn't look left or right .
Speaker 3He just was staring straight ahead like that you know , and so so they .
Speaker 2They run a lot of tests on him , mm-hmm , you know , and , and , and one of the doctors so doctors , I mean they committed and dedicated because one of them said he got a call the hair doctors . He got a call that he needed to come to the hospital , like now , and he said , man , I'm sitting at the table eating dinner , my .
Speaker 1Christmas dinner . He said a pediatric or something . Yeah , oh , okay .
Speaker 2He said man . And then they told him he said he's 80 years old . And he said hold , you know . Then they told him say he's eight years old . And he said hold on , say I got to go . I have an eight-year-old child myself . And I said I could only imagine how the family feeling right now . So he came there , I know , and they run a test for him and they do a scan and everything . And they said they didn't see anything from the scan , you know . And so they had him and put him in one of the rooms and then his doctor came , dr Ferguson , his private doctor , his pediatrician , came there and he said well , you know what , sam , so I'm going to let you all go now . So probably it was a holiday . So two days later he said you all go now . So let's run up , do an MRI , because back then there was only one MRI in Bahamas machine Really yeah , at Doctors' Hospital . Oh wow , there was none in Freeport , none around .
Speaker 1PH .
Speaker 2Only Doctors' Hospital labs MRI machine . Wow , so he say to him . His doctor said to him it looked like there's a brain inflammation , but he's just a basic you got to stay side , stay side . They have to do MRI Because the scan only takes the surface of the brain . He said don't go in depth , you want to see what's inside , what's going on .
Speaker 2So we went , they got a charter plane and we went to Nassau , you know , and it was a struggle from there because when we reached to the airport there's nobody there to meet us . Wow , no ambulance .
Speaker 1So they didn't call ahead .
Speaker 2So they say Wow . And I had a whole tunnel and my arms for about two hours on the tarmac waiting on the ambulance . Eventually the ambulance came , but not for him . It came for a pregnant woman . So the ambulance drivers and the paramedics said you know what ? It's a young boy , we can take him too . So I went with him . We drive in the back of the ambulance and the pregnant woman she is getting rid of her baby and Thomas was right there , really , yeah . So the paramedics say Sheila , your son's face from this , we don't want him to see this . Wow . So we went .
Speaker 2But we went to the hospital and the PMH and we went there , the ambulance driver . He took the pockets that came from Freeport for Tano , gave it to the front desk , you know which ? That's where we found out that that wasn't supposed to happen . So , anyhow . So we went . They kept taking us to the emergency room . So we sat there . I went to the nurse at the emergency room and I told her we come from Freeport emergency flight . You know they're waiting on my son and she just ignored me .
Speaker 2You know they are waiting on my son and she just ignored me . She said that's it , that's it , that's it . I say I mean we need to , he needs his , I don't . I told her I didn't come off the street or just come here . We flew from Freeport . Yes , everything was me . I said , did you get a package ? And she just kept ignoring me . Eventually , you know , we was down there for about at least almost three hours . Okay , yeah , and then finally a doctor came , and they had a doctor , and they came asking . They managed to ask for Cristano , you know . And then the nurse said see , him right there .
Speaker 2The doctor was very upset for the nurse . She said hold on , didn't they tell you they came from Freeport emergency flight and you tell them any other patient what's wrong with you and any other patient ? That's crazy , yeah , so you can't say what's wrong with you . And so they apologized and that you know . So we went , took him straight upstairs . They already had his room .
Speaker 1Is that Dr Saucer ?
Speaker 2Yeah , no at Francis Margaret . Oh yeah at Francis Margaret , because they was wondering how come he didn't reach yet . They keep calling , calling and Dr Ferguson said yes , he's already gone , he may leave .
Speaker 2So we took him up to this room , took him to this room and they sent him in for the afternoon . I sat him in for the afternoon and when they we look at him , I look at him . I couldn't stay in the room Because he lose and this was in , this was less than , and this was he was sick All together , it was one up to every say , but it was , I say , but almost two weeks , wow , and two weeks he really lose almost 30 pounds . What , yeah , it was only just yeah . And so I couldn't even go in the room because every time I ended the room , all lights , all lights I picture him laying in the coffin . Wow , every blue suit on that's when they picture him .
Speaker 3So I could coffin Wow With his blue suit on .
Speaker 2That's when they picture him . So I walk out , I keep walking out , I walk out , so I say no , I can't . You know , carlos , my wife she stays in the room , you know . And that morning , that next day , he told us here okay , took him to Crossroads , the doctor's hospital , to the MRI . He went there to the MRI and when he finished the MRI we had to challenge him because when we have insurance , the doctor's hospital still doesn't want to take him in , and so we had to come up with I think it was about 800 dollars cash , the co-payment before they take him in . Yeah , you know . So a lot of the nurses this was a nurse that came from from pmh , um , she was angry . She said , my honey , these people , just this , this young man , this young boy , need to do the MRI and they refuse .
Speaker 3They have to have that money , yeah .
Speaker 2Yeah , yeah . So eventually I do the MRI , I do the MRI . They give me the MRI , those called the picture .
Speaker 1Yeah , the images .
Speaker 2The images . They put it in the envelope and tell me I walk across the road and give it to the doctor . You know I care for the doctor , so at that time I couldn't go in the room and the doctor said it was taking so long reading this thing . I said why did it take so long to read this thing ? And then I meet this missionary evangelist . She told me that she always come and pray in the hospital and she put I don't know . At first I met the woman . She put me aside .
Speaker 3She said come here , young man .
Speaker 2She said you . She said you . She said you , you are brave , but you're not brave . I can see the fear on your shoulder . Say you're ready to break down right now . But she asked me who was in there . I tell her my son . She say you're ready to break down right now . I tell her yes , yes . She said don't worry , she go out and say he'll be all right . You know it sort of give me some notice , yeah give you that little push that little push .
Speaker 1And I'm sure that's something you relied on throughout his sickness . Yeah that this woman tell you what .
Speaker 3God say yeah .
Speaker 1And you just held on to that .
Speaker 2Yeah , yeah . So then I went , so , you know , so , eventually , but it's free , like all day , the doctors they call us , you know , and when they call they call me and my wife , you know , and my wife's sister was there and they call us . They say they take us . When I look , it was like three doctors and four nurses . I said , hey , they're saying look , why are all these nurses here and all these doctors ? You know , I see some and they don't look . Yeah , you know , why would they want to come and give us a report ? I mean , you only need one person to do it , you know . So he took us to a little room . We need one person to do it , you know . So he took us to a little room and also so , and the doctor , he was a neurologist .
Speaker 2You know I can't be asking Dr Merritt , I can't guess his name was , and he , he didn't cut around the bush , he jumped straight , he come straight . He come straight , shooting straight . Yeah , he say . He say , mr and Mrsopo , I'm going to tell you something . The news say your son has a brain tumor and the brain tumor is cancerous .
Speaker 1Yeah , I remember you telling me that .
Speaker 2Yeah . And he say and where it is , we cannot operate . This is in the stem . He said the only thing we can do , we can give him chemo or radiation . And say , if we give him chemo or radiation , at least you all can have him for six weeks before he die . Wow . And he say , if it out came a relation , three weeks he would die , wow .
Speaker 1So how do you feel at that time ?
Speaker 2It feels like someone take a big medicine ball and boom , yeah .
Speaker 1And I'm sure someplace in your mind you're saying woman , just tell me , god , take care of her . Yeah , yeah , yeah .
Speaker 3You know , yeah , yeah .
Speaker 2And so , carla , she just passed out . I'm sure she passed out and , yeah , she passed out . And then they sent me to her .
Faith and Healing for Son
Speaker 2So when he told me that , when he told me that and I know this was the Holy Spirit that prepped him in my spirit , and I know this was the Holy Spirit that prepped him in my spirit , when he told me that I look at him , the doctor , and I say Doc , I say that's your report , but that ain't God's report . I say I believe in the power of the Lord .
Speaker 1And he look at me and he say hold our faith , hold our faith hold our faith .
Speaker 2hold our faith . Whose report do you believe ?
Speaker 1Yeah , and that's when I started making the phone calls to family , everybody you know I remember you called me , yeah because I was at work .
Speaker 2I know what you call it . Yeah , I don't know you call me , he's the cindy .
Speaker 1Um , the doctors just tell me that . Um , tano , and I could hear it in your voice you were sad and you said the doctor said that tano has a brainstem glaucoma or something like that , but he said it was cancer . And you said I need to get my son off . And I said , okay , moses , I'm going to call St Jude's . And I called St Jude's and if you remember this , I remember that I called St Jude's and St Jude said , okay , sure , where are you calling from ? And I told them they said , okay , no problem , but we're going to need the report from the pediatrician . And I remember calling you back and I said , moses , I talked to St Jude's and St Jude's said that they're going to need the report of the pediatrician . And you said , cindy , I just spoke with Thanos doctor in Grand Bahama , and they said don't let that chat , don't know , don't give him no chemotherapy . Um , let's try get him off to a , a , a , a second opinion .
Speaker 1The second opinion yeah and I remember , um , I said moses , yeah , but this is what , since you would say they're going to need , they have space for them , no problem , they can take them , but this is what they need . And I remember , um , the . The next thing um you told me is that you were going to call your pediatrician back . Call his pediatrician back and see what the pediatrician was going to say . So I know , eventually you'll end up taking him to the us to the us , yeah and he went to the Miami Children's Hospital .
Speaker 2Which is now St Nicholas Hospital , st Nicholas .
Speaker 1Hospital yes , I remember him being there . How did that go there ?
Speaker 2We took him over there . Carla went with him on an emergency flight , me and her sister we went on the regular plane . So we met them there , colin and Tano , and we met . When we reached there they already had the neurologist and the neurosurgeon just in case if they have to operate . We met them there and they say what are we going to do ? We're going to do a full MRI for him and also we're going to take a what's called now from the fluid from his back .
Speaker 1From his spine .
Speaker 2yeah , yeah spine , spine attack , spine attack , it was spine attack . He said wait , but he said they have to do it . They have to do it with Spina Top , and they did that . And this was December 31st . I never forget that . Wow , december 31st , the day before New Year , and they came back . They came back several hours later and they came , you know , and he started to say he started to call one medical time right , and so he looked at my sister-in-law . This is all very inquisitive . So he said I don't want you to go to Dr Google . Now you all like to Google ? Yeah , he said don't go to Dr Google . He said Dr't want you to go to Dr Google .
Speaker 1Now , you all like to Google ?
Speaker 2Yeah , he said don't go to Dr Google . He said Google will get you confused . He said I'm going to tell you straight up . He said okay , and he break it down . He said let me tell you something . He said your son , what we see . He said your doctor , your pediatrician , from Grandmama . He was correct . He said what we see is he had an airborne virus . He picked up and that's what his doctor pediatrician said , the same thing . He believed that's what was going on , the symptoms he see . He said he had an airborne virus . He picked up and he gave a brain infection and it's in the stem and he said all they can do , they can just treat it , give him some steroids and he'll be good to go , you know , and so that's sort of , yeah , big relief , big relief , big relief .
Speaker 1Yeah , that was a big relief .
Speaker 2You know , and so he was in there . So Tano was in there , I'd say , but a little weak , a little weak , but a little weak , and I remember . But he was incoherent , he used to walk like he's falling down , you know . So they said they're not going to let him go like that . And I remember I was Trish and Carla was in the room and across the hallway there was a little small room , you know , where they told me I could go and just lay down . And I went and I remember I was praying and I listened to gospel music on the phone , you know , and I was just laying there .
Speaker 2Then I heard this voice telling me , this voice in the room , this thing say your son's going to this was on a Monday . It was on a Monday . He said your son will be discharged on Thursday . You know , I said so . I said who ? On Thursday ?
Speaker 3You know , I said so . I said who is this ? You know ?
Speaker 2I said who is this you know , so I turned on the light there was nobody . No , the room was only like four by eight or six by eight . It was narrow Okay .
Speaker 1You know , so I said who is this ?
Speaker 2So , I said I turned the light back off and it happened three times . He I turned the light back off and it happened three times . Say your son will be , discharged on Thursday . I say okay all right . All right . So you know that morning I get up Tuesday morning I went straight across the hall right I told Trish and Carla . I told them what I heard , and so Carla said , yes , you received it right .
Speaker 1In the name of .
Speaker 2Jesus . So the nurse came . The nurse came , so I told the nurse . I said my son is going to be charged on Thursday . She said I told you that he got a lease for another two weeks . I said I said I told her . I said God told me that . She said I knew she was expecting that .
Speaker 1Yeah , she was expecting that response .
Speaker 2No , no , she said okay then . And she , well , she's a cocklet .
Speaker 3Oh , okay .
Speaker 2She went out and anyhow , so Thursday . So what happened ? So what happened that same day ? She was on a shift . That morning she came there running she said guess what Say you were striking . So you say , God , guess what Say ? He has released people , shots people . He's going to Thursday , leaving Thursday , hallelujah .
Speaker 1I say but God is good .
Speaker 2Yeah , and he was still and I knew . So we just get them dressed everything and then . So then they say now , before you go , we have to give you this . They give you some medicine and intravenous , yeah , and then they give you something to carry , but they say they ain't giving us one to intervene , so you could know . I mean it's more faster .
Speaker 1It goes directly into the bloodstream .
Speaker 2Yeah , so Thanos said , thanos said don't give me that . So every time you give me that medicine that's causing me to throw up .
Speaker 2And they said no , no , don't worry about that . He said no , don't give me that . And they gave it to him . And when they gave it to him , but less than a minute he got thrown up . So she run and given the doctor , and the same doctor we nicknamed him Dr House Because , yeah , he was always of belief that he would operate open , didn't want to open the town of Herd , yeah , but the Herd doctor said no . He said no , he don't need to operate , he wouldn't operate . And the good thing was the Herd doctor over him said no , we're not doing that .
Speaker 3No , we're not operating .
Speaker 1The openness of Herd for what Exactly yeah ? So anyhow so he that , no , we're not operating the openers go ahead . For what Exactly yeah ?
Speaker 2So anyhow , so he came , they're going to get housed . Yeah , came running down . Oh see , I know something . He said we have cancer . It's causing the trauma . That's what he was saying , right ? So yeah , thanos said you getting a headache ? Thanos said no , I don't have a headache , you know . And he said I don't have a headache , you know . I tell you that medicine caused me trouble . That's all it's . I can taste it in my mouth .
Speaker 3I taste it . I don't like it .
Speaker 2You know . He said you know , but we can't charge you today Because that day this is . Dr Charles said if he can , said if he can let you go today , said if he had to do more MRI and of course Tano started crying again . So Carla said don't worry .
Speaker 2Tano said let them give a clean don't worry , and he said this time , if he can do an MRI from his head to his toe , everything so , and this MRI take day over . Head to his toe , everything so tired and this MRI take over three hours . They had to put him to sleep because it's too long .
Speaker 3You had to keep still .
Speaker 2So I said , don't worry . I said the MRI , they ain't going to find nothing , It'll be clean .
Speaker 1You can leave him clean .
Speaker 2But so they went and do the MRI and we waited a day and later afternoon they came back , you know they said okay , we'll get results in the morning , you know . So that's another night , that's twice a night . So when we looked early that morning , another doctor was on . She was like a student . She came down and she say say guess what ? I have this paper right here . See , your son is clear to go he's fine , say no , say we find nothing . Mri is clean amen clean .
Speaker 2So so so my sister-in-law say the house must be sad . Say where that house ? Why didn't come to bring the news ? So we Wait . Dr House said why ain't come to bring the news , exactly . So we they laughed . They said he's back on another floor . He didn't come .
Speaker 2Dr House is saying yeah , yeah , he didn't come . So we went , so we went . After that we went , we came back home to Freeport , came to grandma , to grandma , and no , and , and , and Donald was doing good , you know , back in school , you know . But but he wasn't going to school every day , he was getting there every other day and so , and what happened ? He was still on some medication , like steroids , medication , you know , so they was . They had to gradually vein him off those things and when he went to school he'd pick up chicken pox Chicken pox .
Speaker 2I remember that Chicken pox yeah .
Speaker 1He got chicken pox and shingles one time .
Speaker 2Yeah , like I was saying he'd pick up chicken pox from the school , one of the other students was infected and so at first he had just a little rash on his back and around his neck . So we went to a pediatrician . Pediatrician checked him . He said okay , it's just chicken pox . They also gave him some medication and told him to stay home . Pediatrician pediatrician check him . He said okay , it's just chicken pox . They will give him some medication , you know , and tell him to stay home . But then , but the chicken pox , he wasn't getting no better , he was getting better , you know . And so they say there's something ain't right , something ain't right . So and so we called the pediatrician . He said just come for some medication again . And he gave him some more , but it wasn't what happened . He's getting worse and worse . And then Tano started saying it was on his neck a lot and he said I can't breathe . I can't breathe . So I said Tano , I said you can breathe .
Speaker 3What's you talking ?
Speaker 2a lot and he's saying say I can't breathe , I can't breathe . So I see , donna , I see you could breathe . Was you talking ? I said you can't breathe . Um , you won't be talking . You see , I can't breathe , I can't breathe . I see time you could breathe . So he also weeks . He's in Washington County , dr Ferguson . No , the position the pediatricians sit nose . I told him that he said the same thing . He said Tano , are you talking to me ? You say you can't breathe . He said I can't breathe . When the pediatrician checked , he said oh man , this looks like he has shingles .
Speaker 2He has shingles , yeah , yeah , he has shingles , shicking box and shingles Shicking box , went straight to shingle and attacked him right on his neck . That's what it was . No , so anyhow , so it wasn't getting any better . So they had met him , they had met him at the hospital and he was there and he got wasted . And he was getting wasted .
Life-Saving Efforts in Critical Moments
Speaker 2So the spiritualist said you know what we need a co- , what we need , we need the court , we need a cinema way . Yeah , we have a cinema way Because , say , if you don't have the machine , the machine and the Bahamas and all these things , that's what's going on . And so he can't see with depth . He said to him , it appears to look like he have meningitis , something like that .
Speaker 2Yeah , but he said , but you need the machine to detect that and you don't have the machine like that , you know , and so , and then there came a time that you know that Tano was in the bed , you know , and he keeps saying , because he put him in the room in the clinic , sunrise Medical , you know , and me , carla and her mommy was there , you know , and Tana was in the bed and Tana keeps saying say Mommy , pick me up , pick me up , pick me up . So Carla said Tana , what you mean , pick you up .
Speaker 3You know , said I ain't looking at you .
Speaker 2I ain't looking at you . I ain't right down there , you know .
Speaker 3So Carla said I'm right down there , you know .
Speaker 2So he picked me up and I said I see you down there in the bed . He said no , I'm down there , I'm down by your feet , wow . So he said , no , you're in the bed . He said all right , forget it . That's what he said . Forget it . So in here .
Speaker 2So one of the older niece was there , you know , and she pulled my mother-in-law out of the room and was talking to her . But when we came back , my mother-in-law told us this after we came back . So I jumped ahead and she told us that the older nurse told us hey , your grandson , he's dying . She was nice all her life , she's of an age now , and she said she's waking and she's in hospital , in the pediatrician . And she said that's how , before children die , that's what they would be saying . She said his spirit traveling . She say , when you hear , when he told his mommy , say , pick him up and see he down by your feet , say that was his spirit down there , see all this body .
Speaker 2But his mommy told us that . I mean , his grandma told us that when he came back , wow , you know . So I said wait , but didn't she tell you all that then , no , no , told us that . I mean , his grandma told us that when we came back , wow , you know . So I said , wait , you know . But didn't she tell you all that then ? No , yeah , yeah , so you know . So he was still so . So then then , while he was there , so Dr Ferguson said you know what they trying to like stop , start , like breathing , slow down a lot . So he had the end to beat him . Whoa .
Speaker 2He had the end to beat him . He had the end to beat him . He had the end to beat him . And and after uh a few hours , by him breathing , taking an oxygen , um , the uh power went off .
Speaker 1Oh .
Speaker 2Jesus . Part of the island bit off and the backup generator didn't turn on , didn't turn on , wow .
Speaker 1So he was . That's when you really need .
Speaker 2America . Yeah , he was out of oxygen , he wasn't breathing .
Speaker 3He stopped breathing for a whole hour .
Speaker 2Wow , and my wife , that was that morning , that Sunday morning . So my wife , she said that she told me this this pediatrician tried to revive him , you know , and she say this pediatrician , shake him , shake him , touch him , do things , revive him . You know , and she say , pediatrician , shake him , shake him , touch him , do things to him . And he went , the toddler went and get him , and so what his pediatrician did bought his fist and strike him hard in the back of his kidneys . And the pediatrician told her , say he did that because , say that's the last resort , was you have somebody that's supposed to . And he peaked at me , you know , he said that's supposed to revive him and I didn't wait . Wow , and God I say he was poor . The pediatrician was sweating , he was like wait nervous .
Speaker 2You know , and he said you gotta get him with him . No , no , no , call the ambulance . Call the ambulance .
Speaker 1He called the ambulance .
Speaker 2The ambulance came but the ambulance came . The rain poured out there , I remember . I remember you saying yeah , it poured out there , and so in the machine they had him hook up to , he couldn't get wet the rain , oh , jeez day , poor day . And so in the machine they had to hook up two . It couldn't get wet , it rained , so they had an ambulance around the front . But then there's too much rain .
Speaker 2So what they had to do , they had to put the ambulance around the back , again In the back . The same thing . So I remember Mr Russell , yeah , yeah , he was there too , he was there praying , he was there at the clinic . And so he said you know what he said forget this . He took his coat off . He took his coat off and put it over the machine , put it over the machine and he shielded Tano over and tell him let's go , put it over the machine , and he shielded Tano over and tell him let's go , don't mind , I can vet . Then that's close , let's go . And that's when they carry him to the ambulance and they put him in the ambulance . And so Nat went with Scarlett too and me , and Trish again went to the airport , going on the commercial flight . And you know , carla told me and Nat told me , the plane came , the ambulance came and the rain was pouring the ambulance came from the US , or from Nassau From US , from US , okay yeah from US the ambulance and the rain was pouring , it was raining .
Speaker 2Yeah , from the US Air Ambulance and the rain was pouring , it was raining . And so eventually they get him on the plane and the pilot , he knows he's not , you know , he was coming there for Air Ambulance , so he's coming there right . So he said title name Cooper . He thought that was not . So he said Cooper , don't worry , and that never corrected me . He said Cooper , don't worry , and that never corrected me . He said Cooper , don't worry .
Speaker 2He said we can get that hole in the cloud there . He said we're going straight through that . And it was an Air Force air ambulance , it was a jet . So he said we're going straight through for that and then we should be able to come right back down to Miami . And so Carla , so that's not 10 minutes afterwards . So Carla went with him , you know , and we went over there , we went over there , and then we reached over there . We met Carla again over there . Minters came by and so when they , they put Tano in the room and so they taking out Tano in the room , and so they um , um , taken out Tano , violence and everything how else was he again ?
Speaker 2no , I didn't see how else was he ? Okay ? No , so they taken um , but his regular doctor was Dr Nathvi , you know . So they taken out his violence and stuff and and they look at us like you know , and then they take these fingers and they prick every finger for blood , all the blood already dried up , wow , I know , I know Rigor modus really set in , wow . And so they look at us like hey .
Speaker 1Why are you bringing this child here ?
Speaker 2It's their child , mm-hmm , their child . So they say , look a child , they're a child . So they say , look at us . They say , anyhow , he's a patient of ours . And you always come here and say , look , trust us . God said we're going to trust you . He said we're going to do our best to make sure every opportunity , chance you have , we're going to do it . He said we're going to do it . We're going to take them down to the MRI . They do MRI , they do MRI down . They're saying the whole body , everything .
Speaker 2And they came back and they put them in a room by himself and they called me and called out and they started talking these medical terms and stuff . And so they started talking , started stalking these medical terms and stuff . So we know , and so anyhow . So they started stalking and they say say your son , there ain't nothing much we could do , ain't much we could do . Say , and they started hugging us and they started crying because somebody knew him , knew him from previous know . And they say we have young kids too and say we know , um , um , I think we could only imagine what you're going to right now . You know , and they was talking to me , right , but I didn't , I was receiving , I don't know that fate I had .
Speaker 1I don't know god give me that crazy fate , yeah it was telling me this , these things , I hear it .
Speaker 2I wasn't receiving it , it was going up to the next year . I was receiving it . So you know . So when they , when they leave one of the , the ICU , icu nurse , a male nurse , he said come here , let me tell you all and say and break it down , what say ? He didn't know why doctors tell parents these big , big medical terms and break it down .
Speaker 2So let me tell you , say your son say so , you know you have electrical wire and you take the coating off , that . Take the coating off that . You say no , that expose , that expose . You say that's your son . Say your spinal cord have a coating on it and say he said that's your son , your spine is going to have a coating on it and so the disease , the sickness he has , it takes all that coating off . It Strip it all off . And they say what they was telling you . But they didn't want to come out and tell you Say once that's stripped off , that can never be returned , that kind of thing . And say your son will be , even if he survives , he'll be a better rest of his life . Wow , you know . So we went . So Tyler was paralyzed from his neck down , he couldn't move nothing .
Speaker 1Wow .
Speaker 2So he was in a room laying down . When we look the machine , they don't want to breathe the machine . His heart rate was two beats a minute . I said that's two beats . Wow , they just had him on the machine just to say no , but he was out .
Speaker 1Practically gone .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Miraculous Recovery Through Faith
Speaker 2So one day I look at the penultimate , the foot of the penultimate , because the machine is penultimate . So I look at the printout , the foot of the pen , because the machine is printout . So I look on it and all of a sudden I remember the resuscitate . The resuscitate , that's what it's coming up . They have so much change . Welcome to him . They have three of those stats and each one of them to me I can remember . There's no more , no more medicine .
Speaker 2Those , the whole , the bags , the whole , the whole . They're just like , and they had , they had IV , probably in every vein they could find . And then they had two pick lines , one of his groin and one of his and his under under his arm . They said they had to put it in his main arteries because they say that particular medicine was given to him . If they put it in the regular vein it'll burn the veins out . So that's why they put it in there . So when Tyler was in there , carla was fixing the sheet over his foot and when she moved the sheet I think that was a mistake they made they had a tag right on his foot , a really DOA . That's the tag . See , wow , they don't arrive in , but they forgot to leave it there .
Speaker 3Wow yeah .
Speaker 2So they're away , they don't arrive in . That's why they put it there .
Speaker 1That's what they thought .
Speaker 2Yeah , they thought .
Speaker 1They thought so leave it there .
Speaker 2That's what they thought Carla said leave it there . So you know , carla , when you have faith different than my own , it's different than my own . She , she , she liked to . She was asking the doctors for all the reports she liked to read , read , read , read . I don't want to read it because I read it gives me doubt .
Speaker 1Yeah .
Speaker 2So I just it's going by my faith , yeah , her faith , she , she , she had to . She said you know what ? I come against this . But , I don't want to hear it . I don't want to read that .
Speaker 3And it was totally different .
Speaker 2So , anyhow .
Speaker 1So she's the one to pray against . Yeah , yeah , but you were just praying . No , just going to pray .
Speaker 2So anyhow , so we were still , I was still , so , anyhow , so we was just praying , you know , and holding faith . Holding faith , so you know , then Dr House did show up , they showed up to sign up , and he say he say , he say , oh , he's back again . He say put me in cartel and put us in an office , I said in his office . And he say , he say , he say he show us his brain , his brain , see that ?
Speaker 1See that brain , See that oh let's see him .
Speaker 2See this right here , this right here , this right here . See this , this right here . So Carter , look at it right . And Carter put it on the computer screen and said the name of Jesus , that's it . And so I say I don't see anything . He say you know what I'm saying and he make it image bigger , bigger . He say it was made up and he's just gone , just gone , that's it . He say you know , he get up and he leave me and Kyle in his office , excuse me . He get up , me and Colin , his office . He kept in the even comments office .
Speaker 2Hmm , then you know so . So three days later , three days later , um tunnel open his eyes . Three days later , and when he opened his eyes , um , he said look at the shred of me and the car . He said , mommy , we can read this left foot .
Speaker 3He had a tube in his mouth .
Speaker 2He said mommy , daddy , and when the noise saw that she had some things on , she had things on , everything just dropped and she take off she take off . Uh-huh , she take off . When she took off , she took off , she came back and the room get dark . Uh-huh , but I can't . I , I , I , I , I , I , I , I , I , I , I , I buddy be here .
Speaker 2Be here , you can see us , Donald said , he said he comes to get him . He said you know . And they say he said boy , say , say you give us a scared , you know you give us a scared . We can tell you my mother and daddy right now See , he was gone , he was dead . See , we inspect you to come back here . I can't see us .
Speaker 3That's what they say .
Speaker 2And suddenly what they start doing ? They start pulling away all them things , Pulling out , Pulling out and putting all the stuff in , All the stuff in .
Speaker 2They say he ain't need it , no more , he's alive . He's alive , they . They start pulling out all the things and then the heart started to come up , the brain started to come up , right , they started pulling out all the things , all the things . And so we're looking about about three or four days on the fifth day I think it's the fifth day for the people so the main doctor , head doctor came and when he came he said he said he said Crist , the main doctor head doctor came , and when he came he say he say say , cristano , you still here . And Tano , look at him like you know . Yes , and he said so . He say he answers himself , right , and so me and Kyle didn't know him . He say he say I told my doctor , see all the doctors here . So I told them I'm going on a schedule , on vacation , on a cruise . I couldn't cancel it . And they say I leave you in good hands for these other doctors . But I tell them when I come back , I don't expect you to be you'd be , dead , you know .
Speaker 2So he told me I didn't expect you to be out , but I said don't worry , see you up , he get you and they started working on him . From then they started working for him from then .
Speaker 1So after they started working on him , how long did it take him to really bounce back ?
Speaker 2He was 100% on life support for six weeks .
Speaker 1Wow , six weeks , holy smokes . Yeah , six weeks , that too the Wow Six weeks , holy smokes , yeah , six weeks .
Speaker 2That too the honest truth Six weeks .
Speaker 2Six weeks and and and um , um , they have . They had a , a um first they did . They said they have a um , his blood infected back , that's what they say . So they said blood . They said no , this has cleaned the plasma . I don't know you can separate the plasma from the blood . And they had this machine called they call it aphoriso , aphoriso machine , I can't pronounce it right and what it does ? It separates , you can see it , one side , the blood go this way and the plasma go the next way and then eventually come back and the plasma go the next way and then eventually it come back and drain it and go into one and they say , they say the plasma supposed to be like off-white . They call it the off-white and say so . When they do , they say they have to do three sets of that , you know . And when they do the first one , it was like this color , brown , dark brown , you know . And so the second time we did it , they get it later . The third time it cleared and they say , for good measure , they can do it a fourth time . The fourth time the same .
Speaker 2He said okay , then you know , and so , but you know , tano was on my support for six weeks , and so he was . He was still like just no one , that no one , no one , no one . And he couldn't move . So what , carla ? You know Carla's a teacher . So Carla say okay , tell you what . Say for me to communicate to you . I'm going to get a chart , chart , and I'm going to put the words together and chart it right out , the alphabet A straight to Z . And she have a blank paper . She said now , tell me what you're saying . So Carla , and she'd tell him , say when I touch the letter . You say you know . So Carla said touch , so blink once if it's right , blink twice if it isn't and Carla should write a whole sentence out Wow .
Speaker 2And so the doctors say Carla's going crazy . They bring her straight jackets for her .
Speaker 1She's not going crazy . That's a mother who loves her child .
Speaker 2Yeah , you know , they bring her straight jackets . So then he starts saying he said I can breathe , I can breathe , I can breathe . So the doctors said no , you can't breathe . He said I can breathe . How he said that ? He said through cholera , right , no , I can breathe . No , and he said no . But the therapist who was coming there , the therapist who was a massager , yeah , the physical therapist yeah .
Speaker 2He told him he therapist , who's a massageist ? Yeah , the physical therapist . Yeah , he told him . He said he said he was there . He said this boy don't need the machine no more . He said I come here every day . He said this boy is much better .
Speaker 1He don't need the machine .
Speaker 2He said right now , this machine is the oxygen is burning him Because he don't need it , you know . And so Antonio , tell him true color , right , see , the oxygen is burning , his feet burning , you know . And the therapist said that's what's going to happen . He said it's okay . Then , all right , you say you can breathe . You're going to get this machine . Machine came from Georgia , I think , and so what are you going to do ? You're she came from Georgia , I think , and so what are we going to do ? We're going to do a sprint , called a sprint , and we're going to put a tube down your throat . Do you know what a tube is ? It's a nose tube and it goes down and it touches your pancreas , because they say it's pancreas that collapse , not pancreas . My bad , the diaphragm , the diaphragm causes the collapse , not by my part , the diaphragm , the diaphragm causes the debris and they say , they say all this diaphragm collapse .
Speaker 2And they say , once the diaphragm collapse you can't get that back , it can't regenerate . And they say if he breathe that means diaphragm wicked . I don't see , dr Sim said . I don't believe that . He said that's a fire , the science . So they put it there and they told the nurse that night say cut the machine off for one hour . After one hour take his blood oxygen and see what the deal is Every hour the nurse did that , everything's fine .
Speaker 1Everything's fine , and so they took it off so how long did he end up staying in the hospital over there 5 ?
Speaker 2months in total 5 months between that's during the medical and the therapy , 5 months and today .
Speaker 1Tana was fine and I remember doing the medical and the therapy . Five months , five months , yeah , and today Tana
Powerful Testimony of Faith
Speaker 1was fine .
Speaker 2Yeah , and I remember when I was I think you was in Freeport then- no , we were in me and Lodge was in Florida . No , this time I went back . I used to go to Miami every two weeks . I spent two weeks in Freeport . And what is two weeks ? I was in Freeport . You're always there , oh yes . Yeah , and this and .
Speaker 1Pastor Johnson .
Speaker 2Rufus Rufus Johnson yeah .
Speaker 1Yes .
Speaker 2Let me tell you before this , when I was home in Freeport , I was praying , I was praying , praying , praying . I said Lord . I said , lord , what's going on ? What happened ? What's going on ? No , and that's what . And this voice came to me and say , say , don't worry , don't worry about your son , your son will be alright . This time is for the doctor , cindy . I wrote the date and the time down on a piece of paper and I have it right home . So , anyhow , that's what it gave me some confidence .
Speaker 2So when I was on the road and he called me and he said , bro , mother , tell me your son is sick again , he said , lord , it's the second time . I told you he hit him the first time . What's going on ? And the Lord told him say , you want to know ? Say , go in the firehouse for three days and I'll tell you . And he said went in the firehouse for three days , went in the firehouse for three days . He came to the firehouse by the doctor's them . See , they will know who I am . And that was confirmation . That's what I said . See , he said he's just going to tell me . He said , all you have to do is continue to say yes , just continue to tell God . Lord , I thank you for my son's complete healing . That's all he said and that's what I'm sending . That's what I did . That I did that straight through . I just went through . I said lord , thank you . My son you know , and , and that's that's been that's .
Speaker 2That's built my faith up , yeah , you know . So that was , that was . That was um , um , um and then um , and then , when tana was was in the bed laying down one day , all the tubes out of him , everything , all the tubes out of him , everything , all the tubes out of him . He was breathing on his own . So this doctor came in there . I didn't remember seeing him , but someone thought he was coming there . But she showed and she looked at Tano . She stared at Tano and me and Carla look at each other .
Speaker 3She just stared at him .
Speaker 2She ain't saying ain't doing nothing , you know . So she's staring and she stared at him for good , I'd say , almost 10 minutes . She's staring at him and before she leave , she put her finger in the ear and she said there is a God . She said three times and when she said that it clicked on what Dr Johnson , Pastor Johnson , told me .
Speaker 1There is a God . There is a God and man listen . That's such a powerful story .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1You know to see that I mean the doctors already had him tied for dead on arrival yeah Hard only beaten twice , two times per minute yeah . I had only beaten twice , two times per minute , and to know that he today is fine , he is in university studying he's a pre-med student .
Speaker 2Boy listen , God's good , eh , that's like the song says , when I look at the goodness of God .
Speaker 1I'll never forget the time when I was telling somebody somebody was sick and they said to me you never . You were here just saying oh , taste and see God is good . But you never realized it until you would have gone through some experience yourself and you realize , and you can now say yourself oh , taste .
Speaker 2And see that God is good .
Speaker 1So God has been good . You know , he has man . Well , what a story . How has this story shaped you ?
Speaker 2though , how has ?
Speaker 1it changed ? Has it changed anything in you ?
Speaker 2What has the story done to you ? It's my faith Because they tell us . They tell us when he was sick the first time , he said his faith is biggest about support . And when the second , when he was sick the first time , he say his fate is big as a basketball . And when the second time he was sick , when he came out of it he was living at Room Keeper . They have a pool in the middle . So he say he tell me . And Carla say say , mommy , daddy , my fate ain't as big as a basketball , no more .
Speaker 1I said what do you mean ?
Speaker 2I said my faith is because I'm pulled out there right now . So my faith it's like it's not much that's bothering me , like that I take it because I know I say , god , you bring my son from the dead . So the small things , I say , no , we're going to work it out . Yes , that's what . So my faith , my faith , just tells me , yeah , what people I mean I see what people go through and what is like . I'll tell you an example . This one of my co-workers back then I mean that's when Tonto was he was better , he was better , you know , and he was , he did something and they just get well to fire him , you know . And he came to me and he say , he say , and then he's a minister in the church , you know , and he went and was in the room and he was so stressed he lay on the cold floor , wow .
Speaker 1He said almost I'm gone , I'm gone .
Speaker 2He said , pray for me , pray for me . So I said , okay then . So all that day I was just praying , just keeping my mind . Where can I pray and write , you know ? So I came to him Before he went to the office , the management office , to them , to ask him you know .
Speaker 2So I can't . I tell him come now , you know . I say I say don't worry , you can be , you can be alright . He said what you mean , be alright ? That time , his shoulder dropped , and he , he really .
Speaker 2I say , I say I say when you go in there , I say they're going to be confused . That's what I hear , this voice telling me this , you know , telling me while he's praying , telling me this Say he's going to confuse them . And say confuse them and say they don't know what they can . Start going at each other . You know . So I said , I told him . I said don't worry about it , watch this . I said go . And he went , and he went , and and he went , and when he came out , when he came out , he said they already had a paper for him to sign . There you go . He said Mo , I ain't no . He came out laughing , smiling . I said man , guess what ? When he went in there and we started talking , they started going at each other . There
Faith and Testimony
Speaker 2you go . And they say you know what , forget it . We just give him one letter . Then Just say that . There you go and say and say they say you know what , forget it . We just give her one letter , then just say that , god , I say yeah , and .
Speaker 2I , so it's that it's still words yeah that's God .
Speaker 1God always speaks to you and it's still words . That's God .
Speaker 2Yeah , so my faith my faith is , it's gone . I mean , and I know , and how much you know , it's right . I mean , I rather make that , you know . I know the enemies come after me , you know , but I remind them what God already bring us through and I always said that .
Speaker 1I always said that when we see God come through for us , whenever we try to doubt or we start to doubt , like oh , this isn't going to work , we always are reminded of what God has already done for us .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1And he's going to do it again .
Speaker 2Yeah , he's going to do it again .
Speaker 1All we have to do is hold our faith you know yeah .
Speaker 2And , like I said , the story of Tano is such a powerful one , you know , yeah , and , like I said , the story of Tano is such a powerful one , I mean trust me , I have so much to say , so much to say , trust me .
Speaker 1But listen , you know God is awesome and I am sure that this will be a story that will be with you forever .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1Because it has shaped you , has changed you . Yeah , it has , it has made you even to rely more on your faith in God . And it doesn't matter where we go we always know the God is with us . No matter what we're going through .
Speaker 2No matter what .
Speaker 1Like I said , it's a wonderful story and I thank you for sharing that story with us .
Speaker 1And , I'm sure , the people in the audience who are listening or who are tuning in , I hope that their faith will also be increased by listening to the story and Moses . We thank you . May God continue to bless you and , once again , like I say , everybody has a story . Whether it be a positive or negative story , that story has shaped us to be the person that we are today . So , ladies and gentlemen , thank you one more time , thank you once again for being on . What's your Story ?
