Welcome to, but Are there Dragons? A podcast where two friends pick a book at least one of them hasn't read and chat about it. I'm your host, critter.
Speaker 2:And I'm your host, jess.
Speaker 1:And today we are going to be announcing our next book, and I know some of you are a bit invested in this because we asked for some advice and so we don't want to make you wait any longer. We're super excited to announce it. So, jess, you want to do the honors?
Speaker 2:Sure. After all of your input, which we greatly appreciated, we have decided that our next book is Iron Flame. Iron Flame Book two by Rebecca Yaros. We are continuing on in the fourth wing realm.
Speaker 1:We are indeed, we are indeed. We had a lot of people say well, you know, we intended to agree with our general assessment of the first book, but I want to see what you think about the second one, and that was, I'd say, the average response. The majority of the response was let's see about that second one, which I am excited about because I was going to read it anyways, and now we just get to talk about it on the podcast, which will be really fun?
Speaker 2:Yes, absolutely it was. It was nice to hear back from folks. We're still working on other ideas of other projects that we want to pursue, because that's how we do. You know, we're fantasy girlies at heart but, like she said, we both had already decided we were going to read it anyways. Why not read it for the pod and get to discuss it with all of you?
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, yeah, and they're just such fast reads. So we did determine, apparently, that iron flame is a little longer than fourth way. But they're such fast reads and we're taking them a month at a time, so soon enough we'll be onto another series If you're not particularly interested in this one, and, as Jessica said, we've got some ideas about our next targets already. So just based on recommendations that we've gotten from people, based on some upcoming Films I don't do little hints, just a little tiny hint, you know.
Speaker 1:So, so it should be good. I am excited to continue on with the Empyrean. Is that the term the Empyrean.
Speaker 2:That's how I've been saying it in my head.
Speaker 1:I think so. Yeah, so it should be good. We did get a little bit of feedback as far as formatting goes, or, like you know how we run this because neither of us have read Fourth Wing. A reminder we are fresh, we are brand new in this series, um, and so one comment that we got was consider taking questions from the audience essentially, and we love that idea.
Speaker 1:Yes, 100 yeah, and so the idea would be, if you want to kind of like try to guide or discussion, or if you have a particular question for us for the segment that we're working on not for the book as a whole, necessarily, unless it's for our second recording, but it's for our first recording then submit that to us via DM, either on discord or, you know, on Twitter or Instagram, literally wherever you happen to follow us on social media or on the discord via DM, so other people can't like see.
Speaker 2:Yes we're going to hold those cards close.
Speaker 1:And then if we'd like the question, or if the question makes sense for our format or whatever, probably we'll probably use your questions, but we'll address those whenever we do our recording.
Speaker 2:I think the next good piece of information is we'll go ahead and we'll share with you how we're breaking this book up. So we have decided we're going to continue on like we did with Fourth Wing, so we're going to do the book over a month, which Critter just alluded to. That means we split the book in half again and we're going to cover chapters one through 35, which is roughly half, based on my super technical Kindle breakdown and we are planning on reading that for the first half of August and the hope is that you see that episode drop for August 12th wherever you get podcasts or on our YouTube channel, and then we will remain.
Speaker 2:We will read the remainder of the book for the last half of August and you would see that episode drop for nine to Labor Day weekend. Labor Day Tuesday, september 2nd. So if you are somebody who wants to give us those questions, we love it, bring it, we're into it. Um, but that's generally how the book is going to be broken out for us. So if it's something that you can point, like you know where in the book it is, if you're somebody who's super together and knows which chapter to go, mark that effects, you can pose that in your question. Right, like such and such happens in chapter 32. What do you think about this? And that will help us make sure that if we pick that question to discuss or that topic to discuss, that it makes it into the right episode.
Speaker 1:And I would say just for the sake of us not getting spoiled, because if you send these DMs to us while we're actively reading, maybe at the very beginning of your comment, be like this is something for your podcast discussion, kind of like a spoiler warning, so that we don't read it until after we have finished reading the book. Because some of you guys might DM us for something you know like we might be like oh my gosh, look, they DMed us and then not realize that it's for the podcast. So just maybe try to warn us about spoilers before podcast. So just maybe try to warn us about spoilers before and, yeah, make sure that they don't exceed the what we're reading, which will be through chapter 35 for this first one.
Speaker 2:Excellent, call out Critter Yep. So for anybody who's new to us or still newish to us, we're doing this the same way we've done before, which is that we're going into the book cold, haven't even read the back cover. All we know about the fourth wing series is what we got from reading the first book. So, yes, please be kind to us as your podcast hosts and don't spoil us unintentionally. We really appreciate you. That would be so sad.
Speaker 1:And if you did spoil us, I don't know what I would do, but there would be grudges involved. Okay, extreme grudges, although honestly, I'm like. But there would be grudges involved.
Speaker 1:Okay, extreme grudges, although honestly, I'm like my brain is so fried because I've been so busy. We did WatCon, which was super fun. You know it's summertime, so things are pulling me in 80,000 different directions, as they are you. Today, when I was getting ready for this recording, I thought to myself how did fourth wing end? Like what's next? And then then I remembered. I did not take me long to remember. I did very much remember, um, and now I'm like, oh my gosh, I want to keep going, but I haven't. I haven't yet because I've been waiting. I wanted to be fresh for the recording yep, no same here.
Speaker 2:July has been jam-packed yeah, in june.
Speaker 1:Yes, july and june, both, both. It's been cray, crazy, but fun. I love the summer I yes you know, it's so much, so much action get it all in. We're not even in school anymore, which is funny, but it's still like you know yeah, that nostalgia never left me.
Speaker 2:You know like, yeah, absolutely the emphasis to do as much as possible because it's summer break.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:It never goes away.
Speaker 1:No, no, summer's awesome. Not my favorite season, though. What would you say your favorite season is?
Speaker 2:Honestly, I am a bit of a fall girly. I do like sun. My husband, mr Jessica, does like to give me a hard time that I would curl up on a rock and sun myself, much like a dragon might. However, fall is really my favorite because it's usually less intense heat and you can do more.
Speaker 1:We are again meant to be together, because fall is indeed my favorite season, although I will say that December is my favorite month, so explain that. But no, fall is the best, because I mean it's football season, it's Oktoberfest season, it's Ren Faire season where I'm from, it's leaves, it's pumpkins, it's Halloween. It's just kind of unmatched. I don't know If you're watching or listening. Let us know in the comments what your favorite season is, because it's you know it's worth knowing.
