one of the things that we're launching this weekend is Young Communicators, and here's simply what that means: it means this is that we've taken some of the team who we believe have the gift of they're gonna clap, they're gonna amen more than they normally do to encourage the gift and encourage the step of faith that these communicators are taking as we see God develop a fresh gift on the always ended up there for no reason, probably, but normally for either a Christmas rehearsal or an Easter thing or giving back to our local community, whatever we could do, we would be in church. My sister's 11 years older than I am, she's here today. 00:04:44.720 --> 00:04:52.399 My brother's five years older than I am, he's watching online, and I was like, ch-ching, I'm staying with my we were outside this CVS I más, which basically means it's a normal CVS that y'all have, but then everything you could find at your abuela's house that you need because you live in the States now, so a really rigorous academic program, I was on the worship team at church, I was involved in absolutely anything and everything you could possibly think of. 00:06:44.160 --> 00:06:44.959 I was there. 00:06:45.199 --> 00:06:46.879 And so I was like, I'm not doing this. 00:06:46.959 --> 00:06:51.199 Like I could have thought of so many reasons why not to do it. 00:06:51.360 --> 00:06:56.720 And before I could even think of reasons, like they were there, trust me, I had been repeating them for weeks. 00:06:56.879 --> 00:07:05.279 Before I could think of those, I felt the strongest impression I've ever had in my life of God speak to me and say, You've been praying for peace. 00:07:05.519 --> 00:07:07.120 Dallas is your peace. 00:07:07.439 --> 00:07:17.759 And I want to pause there for a moment and acknowledge that I know that peace is not confined to a location, it's not confined to a building, it's not about a specific place, it's only found in Jesus. 00:07:18.079 --> 00:07:19.920 But he knew my prayers. 00:07:20.079 --> 00:07:25.439 He knew that I was like, Miami, Dallas, Miami, Dallas, give me peace, Miami, Dallas. 00:07:25.600 --> 00:07:27.439 And he spoke to me how he knew best. 00:07:27.600 --> 00:07:28.560 And isn't that the best? 00:07:28.639 --> 00:07:33.040 That God knows exactly how to give us a word right when we need it, right, church? 00:07:33.279 --> 00:07:33.600 Right? 00:07:34.319 --> 00:07:40.079 And so I tell you this story because I was at a really significant crossroads when I was about 16 years old. 00:07:40.240 --> 00:07:45.439 I was a young high school girl, and it's not lost on me that in this room, there's so many stories. 00:07:45.600 --> 00:07:49.279 There's so many of us that find ourselves at those crossroads. 00:07:49.519 --> 00:07:55.360 It might not be moving states, but it could be stepping into that relationship, stepping out of that relationship. 00:07:55.839 --> 00:07:58.800 It could be making that business investment or not making it. 00:07:59.199 --> 00:08:05.199 It could be reaching out to that friend that there's been some tension and you're not sure what's going on and you're kind of putting it off. 00:08:06.000 --> 00:08:10.879 It could be as big as moving states, it could be should we have kids right now or should we not? 00:08:11.279 --> 00:08:14.399 We all find ourselves in these crossroads. 00:08:14.800 --> 00:08:20.480 And it's in moments like these that I personally look to scripture to see what God has taught us. 00:08:20.720 --> 00:08:28.959 What is the blueprint of what to do when we're faced with these questions and doubts and situations that feel like they're a little bit too big for our own humanity? 00:08:29.360 --> 00:08:34.639 And so, someone I think of in scripture that lived this out perfectly is Rahab. 00:08:34.799 --> 00:08:42.240 And so a few fun facts about Rahab is her story is written in Joshua chapter two. 00:08:42.559 --> 00:08:46.559 And what's going on here is I'm just gonna give you a synopsis because it's a pretty long chapter. 00:08:46.720 --> 00:08:54.639 And what's happening is Moses died while they were going to the promised land, and the leadership of Israel was left over to Joshua. 00:08:54.799 --> 00:08:59.360 And so Joshua heard from the Lord that the next city they had to conquer was Jericho. 00:08:59.519 --> 00:09:07.919 And so he sent two spies over to the city, you know, to scout the land, to see their weaknesses, their strengths, what their yeah, what what their whole setup is like. 00:09:08.000 --> 00:09:12.080 I I wasn't back there in war, but it they needed to know the setup just like we know now. 00:09:12.240 --> 00:09:16.879 And so they send the spies, and these spies run into a woman named Rahab. 00:09:17.120 --> 00:09:25.519 So, fun facts about Rahab is that she is a pagan, she's a Canaanite, she lives in the border of the city. 00:09:25.759 --> 00:09:29.440 Jericho's a fortified city, so it was kind of like a whole cylinder like this. 00:09:29.600 --> 00:09:41.519 She lives in the border of the city, and if there weren't any more reasons as to why she's the least expected person that God would partner with in this story, on top of that, Rahab was a prostitute. 00:09:41.759 --> 00:09:44.960 And so we don't expect much from this story. 00:09:45.039 --> 00:09:51.679 But these men arrive at Rahab, Rahab's house, and the government comes to look for them, and Rahab has a decision to make. 00:09:51.840 --> 00:10:01.200 But she says, in exchange of me hiding you, I ask that when you come and take over this city, that you spare me and my family's lives. 00:10:01.440 --> 00:10:03.039 So let's stop right there for a second. 00:10:03.200 --> 00:10:05.840 Imagine yourself as Rahab. 00:10:06.080 --> 00:10:10.720 She's in a city that God is about to judge, and this isn't a fun thing. 00:10:10.960 --> 00:10:14.879 But I wonder what kind of questions cross her mind because she said yes to these spies. 00:10:15.039 --> 00:10:17.919 I wonder if she asked, is this the right decision? 00:10:18.320 --> 00:10:19.600 Is this not the right decision? 00:10:19.840 --> 00:10:20.720 Do I let them stay? 00:10:20.879 --> 00:10:21.519 Do I not? 00:10:21.759 --> 00:10:24.000 What's gonna happen to my life if I do? 00:10:24.159 --> 00:10:25.919 And what's gonna happen if I don't? 00:10:26.240 --> 00:10:32.000 There was so much uncertainty on the other side of that, and she had no idea, and yet she still did it. 00:10:32.399 --> 00:10:35.360 And I think that a lot of us are in shows us is that she stepped out in faith without knowing what was on the other side of it. 00:10:50.720 --> 00:10:57.360 And so today, if you're taking notes, the sermon title is What's on the other roof and she said to them, I know that the Lord has given you this land, and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you. 00:11:54.879 --> 00:11:57.200 We have heard, can y'all say, We have heard? 00:11:58.000 --> 00:11:59.919 Y'all are the eleven o'clock, a little louder. 00:12:00.000 --> 00:12:00.799 We have heard. 00:12:01.759 --> 00:12:02.480 Let's go. 00:12:02.720 --> 00:12:14.879 Uh we have heard the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed. 00:12:15.039 --> 00:12:20.240 When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear, and everyone's courage failed because of I find it really interesting that Rahab, out of all people, said this. 00:12:34.480 --> 00:12:42.399 Because if you don't have I didn't have much before studying all of this, that the cultural context and the historical context is that this is a pagan city. 00:12:42.639 --> 00:12:46.639 They do not serve the God of Israel, they do not know the God of Israel. 00:12:46.799 --> 00:12:49.919 She had no context to know of this God before this. 00:12:50.080 --> 00:12:55.840 She didn't have, like, we had Sunday school, she didn't have like they had a temple, a synagogue, the law. 00:12:56.000 --> 00:13:01.519 She didn't have any of that to make this confession, and yet that was her confession. 00:13:01.759 --> 00:13:07.200 The Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth below. 00:13:07.360 --> 00:13:17.120 And it was this confession that when the spies told her to put up a scarlet cord over her window, and that would be the identifier that they wouldn't attack her home, that she did it. 00:13:17.519 --> 00:13:30.799 She took that step first because she says, The Lord your God, not all the other gods I've served all my life, not all other pagan gods that my city has tried to offer me, that is not God. 00:13:31.279 --> 00:13:33.840 Those are not the gods that I know is real. 00:13:33.919 --> 00:13:36.799 The God of Israel, he seems to be the God. 00:13:37.039 --> 00:13:38.559 He seems to be the one. 00:13:39.440 --> 00:13:49.120 And I know that in this room, we might not all have those pagan gods that Rahab had, but if we're honest with ourselves, we all have our own gods. 00:13:49.360 --> 00:14:05.279 We all have our own idols in our hearts, the things that we put first before Jesus, our financial status, our education, the things we look for, safety and comfort, the things we run to when we need satisfaction. 00:14:05.679 --> 00:14:08.480 We make gods of things that aren't Him. 00:14:09.120 --> 00:14:15.120 But it's interesting that Rahab, she said this before even Romans 10, 17 says. 00:14:15.279 --> 00:14:20.080 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 00:14:21.279 --> 00:14:24.000 And so a lot of us, that's our first step today. 00:14:24.320 --> 00:14:25.279 Faith comes first. 00:14:25.360 --> 00:14:29.440 Our first step is saying, He is who he says he is. 00:14:30.240 --> 00:14:33.360 Right, church, he is who he says he is, right? 00:14:35.200 --> 00:14:39.759 And what Rahab did was she responded to what she heard. 00:14:40.159 --> 00:14:50.559 She hadn't yet seen the other side of what would happen if she said yes, of what would happen if she harbored these size, of what would happen on the other side. 00:14:50.879 --> 00:14:58.480 Because I think she teaches us that faith is not believing God after you see the outcome, it's trusting Him before you see it. 00:14:59.519 --> 00:15:01.919 And a lot of us have a lot of trouble with that. 00:15:02.240 --> 00:15:04.080 Let me tell you, I'm the first one. 00:15:06.080 --> 00:15:12.720 Because she knew that she had the danger right in front of us, but with a lot of us, that's not the story. 00:15:13.039 --> 00:15:17.279 But faith is something that God invites us to step into. 00:15:18.159 --> 00:15:28.720 The Bible defines faith in Hebrews 11:1, saying, Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. 00:15:29.279 --> 00:15:35.840 You see, Rahab, she had confidence in what she hoped for, and she had assurance about what she had not yet seen. 00:15:36.080 --> 00:15:37.840 She hadn't seen the end of the story. 00:15:38.000 --> 00:15:48.960 If you read later in Joshua, you read the end of the story that the city does get taken over, that it does become complete destruction, not distraction, destruction, and complete and utter mishap. 00:15:49.679 --> 00:15:50.960 She doesn't know that yet. 00:15:51.919 --> 00:15:56.879 But she knew that she had come face to face with two people that represented that God. 00:15:57.919 --> 00:16:01.679 She represented the God that was powerful, the God that was mighty. 00:16:02.080 --> 00:16:06.320 And she was confident even though she couldn't see it. 00:16:06.720 --> 00:16:11.600 Because I think that we forget that real faith is actually supposed to provoke action. 00:16:12.000 --> 00:16:14.639 You know, Pastor Mark Job talked about that last week in his sermon. 00:16:14.720 --> 00:16:18.720 He said, when we are called, our job is to go. 00:16:19.120 --> 00:16:23.679 Because responding to God's prompting isn't blind faith, it's biblical faith. 00:16:24.159 --> 00:16:28.720 It's not just I'm walking in the dark, I'm going in a direction I don't know of. 00:16:29.039 --> 00:16:29.360 No. 00:16:29.679 --> 00:16:33.840 It's walking in the light, it's seeing that he's prompting us in a certain direction. 00:16:34.559 --> 00:16:40.559 But you see, a lot of us in this room, we have a lot of reasons as to why we delay those steps of faith. 00:16:40.799 --> 00:16:43.840 One of those reasons is we think we need more certainty. 00:16:44.080 --> 00:16:50.960 You can tell yourself, like, no, I need to be 100% sure before I make this decision. 00:16:51.279 --> 00:16:56.080 But let me tell you, if you had complete certainty, it wouldn't be faith in the first place. 00:16:56.399 --> 00:17:01.679 And I tell you with a smile on my face, because I know that that's hard for us in the room. 00:17:03.919 --> 00:17:17.200 You know, if we're honest with ourselves, if we were in Rahab's position and these spies come to our home, we would be like, let me think about it, let me let me pray about it, let me tell my support group, I'm gonna submit it to my elders. 00:17:17.279 --> 00:17:28.079 I'm going to ask everyone, I'm gonna pray again, and then after I pray, I'm gonna ask ChatGPT what chat thinks about the decision, and then go ahead and make a decision based off of that. 00:17:28.240 --> 00:17:30.640 And then once I'm
