Hello, my Radiant Souls and welcome back to another empowering episode of Unleash your Inner Radiance. I'm Lisa Dorn, your Life and Transformation Coach, Real Estate Agent here in very cold Minnesota, and International Author. In our latest, last episode, we talked about setting dreams and goals for an amazing 2025. Today, we're going to go deeper. We're diving into the sneaky, self-destructive patterns of self-sabotage and the transformative power of resilience. If you ever felt like you are standing in your own way or struggling to bounce back from life's challenges, this episode is for you. Let's explore how to stop self-sabotaging and start showing up as the powerful, radiant person you are meant to be. Let's get started. We're going to talk a little bit about understanding self-sabotage. We're going to talk a little bit about understanding self-sabotage Because self-sabotage is a term that we've all heard. But what does it really mean? Because, at its core, self-sabotage is when we do things, often unconsciously, that get in the way of our own success. Have you ever done that? Have you ever experienced that? It's kind of like here's an example Skipping the gym even though you know you are committed to a healthier lifestyle. It's procrastinating on that work project that could lead to a promotion. It's pushing people away because you are afraid of getting hurt. But why do we do this?
Speaker 1:Self-sabotage often stems from deeper issues, from deeper issues in our childhood. Some of them are like fear of failure or success, low self-esteem, low self-worth, perfectionism. I struggle with all of these. The last one is past trauma or limiting beliefs. We all struggle with these things. I myself struggle with all four of them at any given minute of a day. So I want to take a moment here to reflect. Think about a time when you've self-sabotaged your own progress. Maybe you're trying to stick to a goal and something or someone pulled you off track. Write it down, if you can, because awareness is the first step to breaking free from self-sabotage. Once we can name it, we can tame it, but we need to name it first.
Speaker 1:So, following that, I want to talk about the root of self-sabotage and dig just a little bit deeper behind why we all struggle with self-sabotage. Because if you have ever heard that a habit is a habit, right, so not doing something is a habit. Not getting out of bed in the morning when your alarm goes off is a habit. And not getting out of bed in the morning when your alarm goes off is a habit. People say that I'm sorry, I just can't get in the habit of working out in the morning, but you have a habit of hitting snooze. Just going to say that is a thing, because we often use self-sabotage to protect ourselves from discomfort. Change is hard, growth is hard, and our brains are wired to avoid pain and stick with what feels safe and familiar, even when safe means staying stuck.
Speaker 1:So I'm going to give you four common root causes of self-sabotage. One is fear of failure, because it's easier to avoid trying than to risk failing. Two fear of success. What if you succeed and you can't keep up? What if people expect more from you? What? What if they expect more? Three imposter syndrome Feeling like you're not worthy of success can lead you to unconsciously sabotage it. Do you do this? I know I'm guilty of it and I have yet to figure out why. Number four unresolved past experiences. Maybe you were told as a child that you weren't good enough. Maybe you were told as a child that you weren't good enough and those words became the script that you replay over and, over and over in your mind. You see, the key to overcoming self-sabotage is identifying these stories you've been telling yourself, because I want you to think are they true or are they just outdated narratives that really, truly, no longer serve you? Mine fall in that category Building resilience.
Speaker 1:We're going to shift gears and talk about resilience, because resilience is your ability to bounce back from challenges, to adapt and to keep going, even when things get so tough that you just want to hide. It is the antidote to self-sabotage, because when you build resilience, you build trust in yourself, trust that you can handle whatever comes your way. So let's talk about how we can start building resilience. And, trust me, I need to practice these five steps, because I had something happen to me over the last week that really struck me in the heart, really struck me in the heart, and it really knocked my self confidence down and my self worth down, and I literally have been trying to figure out how to be more resilient in this. So, one, we need to practice self-compassion. Talk to yourself like you would a friend, instead of saying I'm such a failure. Try, I made a mistake, but I am learning and growing.
Speaker 1:Two, reframe the challenges. Instead of seeing setbacks as roadblocks which mine became a huge roadblock this week see them as opportunities to grow and ask yourself what can I learn from this? Three, strengthen your support system, because resilience isn't built alone, so lean on friends, family, a coach who believes in you and reminds you of your strength. Four create healthy habits. Did you know that physical health and mental health are really deeply connected? Exercise, sleep and nutrition all play a huge role in building resilience. Celebrate small wins. Resilience grows when you recognize your progress, no matter how small. Every step forward counts.
Speaker 1:Our last segment strategies to stop self-sabotage. This one is my toughest, because I struggle with self-sabotage like there is no tomorrow and I see it in a lot of things that I do and I'm not successful in. So, now that we've explored the why behind self-sabotage and the power of resilience, I want to talk a little bit about actionable strategies to stop self-sabotage, about actionable strategies to stop self-sabotage, and I'm going to practice these this week and I want you to practice them with me. One identify your triggers. What situations or emotions lead you to self-sabotage? Because that awareness is key. Mine is usually my emotions, which are things that are trapped in me.
Speaker 1:Two create a plan. If you know you tend to procrastinate. Set smaller, more manageable goals and break the big tasks into small, bite-sized pieces. Three set boundaries. I am notorious for not setting boundaries. And when I do set boundaries, sometimes they come back to haunt me. But sometimes self-sabotage comes from saying yes to things that drain us. So learn to say no to what really truly doesn't align with your goals.
Speaker 1:Four visualize your success. Spend time imagining what it will feel like to achieve your goal. Make it so real in your mind that it feels attainable. Five replace negative self-talk. When you catch yourself saying I am never good enough, I'll never be good enough, write it down, because I want you to stop and reframe it. Try, I am capable and I am learning as I go.
Speaker 1:Seek accountability is number six. Find a coach, a friend or a mentor who can help you stay on track and call you out when you are veering off course. Seven practice patience, because change takes time. So celebrate every progress instead of perfection. Huge, huge thing.
Speaker 1:I struggle with that a lot because I need to know this before I can do this instead of just doing it right. I don't need to know everything about it before I do it, because if I don't do it, I'm not taking a chance, and if I don't do it, then I'm not taking that chance that I'll fail and I'll grow from it. So I want to say this is your journey to freedom. My friends, self-sabotage doesn't have to define you. With awareness and compassion and resilience, you can break free from those old patterns and step into the life that you deserve. Remember, you are not your mistakes. You are the radiant, powerful person who keeps showing up and trying again.
