What If One Small Shift Could Rewrite Your Life

Unleash Your Inner Radiance/ Lisa Dorn Season 2 Episode 131

Feeling like you’re living the same year on repeat—same bills, same stress, same 2 a.m. questions? Lisa offers a grounded, compassionate reset built on one honest truth: nothing changes if nothing changes. Rather than chasing motivation, we shift inputs—what we read, who we listen to, the skills we practice, and the spaces we protect—so real transformation can take root.

We start by reframing exhaustion and naming what it is not: it’s not brokenness. From there, Lisa walks through six practical steps that turn insight into movement. You’ll learn how ten pages a day can give language to foggy feelings, why switching the voices in your earbuds changes your horizon line, and how to borrow belief from mentors until your own belief grows strong. We dig into skill-based growth—asking what to learn next instead of pushing harder—and the power of imperfect action to create clarity you can’t think your way into.

Accountability and habit design round out the toolkit, including a simple five-second rule to reclaim your mornings. We end with protecting your peace by curating conversations, screens, and spaces that shape your future. If you’re ready to stop running the hamster wheel and build a life that feels aligned instead of exhausting, this conversation will meet you where you are and nudge you forward with small, doable shifts.

If something here feels right, reach out for support. Coaching isn’t about being broken—it’s about being ready. Subscribe, share this with a friend who needs it, and leave a review to help more people find the show. What’s your one small shift today?

SPEAKER_00:

Welcome back to Unleash Your Interradiance. I'm Lisa, your life wellness and transformation coach, and I am so glad you are joining me today. I apologize for not doing any episodes the last few weeks. I have been sick. I actually spent almost two weeks sick, which was my Christmas vacation. So, um, but I apologize. I didn't have any batch that I could share with you guys. So today is January 10th. We are well into January. But if you are listening today and feeling tired, overwhelmed, or even quietly frustrated with your life, I want you to hear this first. You are not broken, you're just exhausted. We're mentally exhausted, we're physically exhausted, it's winter, it's gloomy, and there's a lot of turmoil in the state of Minnesota. So we're not gonna go into that though, because you know, there was a season of my life when every looked everything, everything, everything looked fine on the outside. And I'm sure that many of you can relate. I was functioning, I was showing up, I was doing what needed to be done. But inside, I felt like I was living the same year on repeat, the same bills, the same stress, the same late-night thoughts of there has to be more than this. I remember sitting alone thinking, I don't need another pep talk. I need something that actually changes. I need something to actually change. And guess what? That shift started everything. Because here's what I learned the hard way. Nothing changes by thinking about it, which means that nothing changes if nothing changes, right? Because change starts when your inputs change, your mindset changes, your thoughts change. And at that time, I didn't have a coach, and I wasn't a coach, and I didn't have a roadmap, and I didn't have clarity. I don't even think I knew what clarity was, and so I just know that in my soul, in my in my deep in my stomach, I just had to keep knowing that I couldn't keep going this way. I just it was so deep, and it was like I cannot keep going this way because it just wasn't working. It was like a hamster wheel, right? You're just doing the same thing over and over and over on repeat, and you're like, wow, nothing changes if nothing changes. That was mind-blowing because all of a sudden it was like, you're right, nothing changes if nothing changes. So that is where change starts. When you all of a sudden sit there and go, right, I am doing the same thing over and over and over, and that's not working. So I'm gonna give you some steps to change your mindset, change the direction of your life. I want you to become a reader. Now, I listen to a lot of books, so I read in the car even though I'm not reading because I'm driving, but I'm listening, right? And I didn't I didn't become a reader of self-development books because I loved reading. Because actually, when I was married, I read a lot of like romance novels. Um I don't know, maybe that was to hide to go a place where I needed to go at that time. I don't know. But for the last, I'm gonna say five years, I have really, really, really been on a self-development journey. And I love it. I love it because I became a reader because my own thoughts were keeping me stuck. So I mean, you could start really easy, like just 10 pages a day. I mean, because that actually started it, you know, because you know, self-development books aren't, you know, all that, you know, fun. I mean, sometimes I can really get into some, and I think that's why I kind of switched to um listening to books, because it was a little bit easier, right? Than sitting there reading it. And anyway, and plus I have a lot of them on my Kindle too, so it's not like you can, you know, highlight the things that you want. I mean, you can, but it's just different, anyway. Um, but 10 pages a day, and that actually became my reset. I mean, some days, I guess, when you're reading, it it felt pointless, right? Because it's like, God, you know, why am I reading this? Am I why am I learning anything from this, right? But what I came to understand is that I was reading self-development books because I needed to hear that. But if I'm going to read them, I need to put into motion what I just read. Because if I don't do that, then I'm not doing it, right? Then why read it? So once I understood that, it actually helped. And sometimes when I was reading the books, it actually felt like someone finally understood me. Which when you're reading a book and you're like, wow, did they like literally write that about me? I mean, it's like when I go to church and you're listening to the to the sermon and you're like, you feel like they're just standing there talking about you, to you, right? So those pages gave me new language for how I was feeling. And that is something that I see now in the women that I coach. And it's so fun because when you don't have words for your experiences, you assume that something is wrong with you. But it isn't. You just have not been given the tools yet. So if you are ever wondering why you're just sitting there and you're like, I just don't know what to do with this, they're tools. You just have to figure out how to use them. So, number two is changing who I listened to. Because I had to be honest with myself. The advice I was taking came from people who loved me, but they had actually never built the life that I wanted, the life that I was dreaming about. So I started listening to different voices. That's why I like listening to books and podcasts, because you're listening to different people. I started putting myself in the room with other people, right? And when you start listening to the other different voices, at first it will feel really uncomfortable because it really felt uncomfortable for me because it was like, I am so not at their level, so why am I even listening to then them, right? But it felt expansive, but it feels expansive but overwhelming. So there goes again. If you're listening to the stuff and you're growing from it, then put it into motion and do it. Because sometimes you don't just need motivation, what you need is perspective from someone who can see what you can't see, which is why I like to listen to podcasts. And maybe you do too. Step three, find mentors. Some of my mentors never knew my name because I listened to them, they're authors, they're podcast hosts, they're teachers from afar, or maybe even I don't know. I was gonna say people that you follow on Facebook or TikTok, right? Those people aren't gonna necessarily necessarily know who you are, or even on Instagram, unless you're following them and you're commenting, you could just watch their journey, right? So that's what I mean by teachers from afar, right? They helped me borrow belief until I had my own. You know, one of the things I did um a while back is I attended, and I don't even know where the book is, a worthy thing. Um, that it was an all-day thing, literally an all-day thing. And it was absolutely, sorry, I stepped away, absolutely mind-blowing. The people that she had when she was bringing out her book, it was um it was unbelievable. It was unbelievable. I literally did not realize it was gonna go for 10 hours. I literally sat at my desk and took notes from absolutely every speaker, it was unbelievable. So that's what I mean by just watching teachers from afar because that day was transformational, transformational. I have stuff because I took a lot of notes, and I was just thinking about those notes the other day. I need to put those into action, that's what I need to do. So you don't need someone just telling you what to do, you need someone reminding you who you already are and reminding you that that person deep inside that you're dreaming of becoming, you can still become them. You can still do it. So step four is learning new skills, which is kind of what I've been talking about the whole time because you're learning new skills, you're learning stuff about you, you're just learning, right? So there was a moment when I realized this working harder wasn't working. I was still tired, I was still stuck. So I started asking a different question of myself. What do I need to learn next? That question actually changed my life, and that was recently too, right? So I'm looking at 2026 in a whole different manner than I looked at 2025. So I guess I could say that this now has changed my life recently, and it's the one question that I ask my clients all the time because growth isn't about fixing yourself, it's literally about expanding your capacity. And when I realized that, it was like, wow, wow, I've been doing all this work and I haven't understood how I can expand and grow. So I'm going to expand my capacity in 2026. So that brings me to step five because taking imperfect action is what we all need to do. I am a perfectionist, and for four years I have been fighting that. I have been fighting this has to be perfect. I have to know this before I can do this, and I have to know this before I can do this. Guess what? I don't need to know any of that stuff. I can grow as I'm growing with other people, right? I can grow as I'm learning. I can grow as I'm doing this podcast. Because when you're doing things through perfection, how I felt was I didn't feel ready. I didn't feel confident. But I did move anyway. And so I did move because I was going to actually stop my podcast in 2025. But guess what? I was like, no, I am not going to. I am going to start doing this as messy as I possibly can because I really don't care. Right? Because it's who I am. And guess what? My clarity didn't come from waiting, from reading, from doing all the things. It came from moving. And this is where having support and accountability matters. I have an accountability group, which you're gonna chuckle like this. I need to be more accountable at, right? Um, because they get up at 5:30 in the morning and they exercise and they do breathing and they do mindset and they do all the things. There's my accountability that I have a problem with, and that's on me. But you need to have accountability support from somebody. So if I can be that for you, I'd I would really enjoy that. Because when you're in your own head, which this is me being in my own head, right? It's easy to stop yourself. So me getting in my own head, I have a group that will hold me accountable that I'm a part of that I don't participate in. So, um, or I do randomly, right? So when someone decides that you're worth walking beside, you move faster and you move with more trust. So am I gonna start getting up at 5 a.m.? Yes. And I think part of my thing is that they do one thing and I do the treadmill, right? So I just feel like I need to get up at 5 a.m. so that I can do 45 minutes on my treadmill. So it's just a whole mindset thing, and it's kind of like um, you know, that five-second rule. You should just get, I should just literally, my alarm should go off, and I should say, okay, that's my alarm. This is my five seconds, one, two, three, four, five, and get out of bed. I just need to start doing that because a habit is a habit. So my habit of staying in bed and hitting snooze is a habit, right? I need to change my habit. So, anyway, step six is guarding my environment or guarding your environment. Because you need to protect your peace. If I think back to the conversations I allowed, the noise that I consumed, and the energy that I gave my time to, ooh, that is one of the things that I help women with in coaching because when I went through my divorce, I didn't know how to protect my peace, if that makes sense. And I didn't know because I hadn't done any personal development stuff, I didn't know that you could protect your peace or how to do it. So now that I've had that experience and I've had other experiences, I can teach women how to protect their peace. And that's one of the things that I help women look at in coaching. Not because it sounds nice, but because it works. And you have to remember that your environment shapes your future. So who are you talking to, right? So I want to thank you for spending time with me today. If you are listening to this podcast and something in you feels right right now, and if if you feel seen right now, which I hope you do, I want you to know this. You don't have to do this alone. You don't have to have it all figured out before you ask for support. Coaching isn't about being broken, it's about being ready. It's about being ready to forgive yourself or other people, it's about being ready to change your mindset, it's about being ready to transform your life. It's about being ready. So if you're ready to stop living life on repeat, if you're ready to change your inputs, that's your mindset. What are you saying to yourself? And if you're ready to build a life that feels totally 100% aligned instead of exhausting, if that's you, this is your permission to reach out. There is no pressure, there is no obligation, just conversation. You can go to my website, you can send me a message, we can chat. Let's see if we're perfect for each other, right? So if this episode spoke to you, please sit with it. Let one small shift be enough for today. One book, one boundary, one brave step. That's how transformation actually happens. Because you were never broken, even though you felt like it, and I can relate, you just were not ready. So until next time, keep hustling and trusting that nudge that's so deep down in your stomach. Keep choosing growth and keep unleashing your inner radiance. Until next week, guys, thank you so much. Please share this with someone and please leave me a review. I would appreciate it. Bye.
