In the 14th Velvi discourse, Gurumahan deeply moves the listeners as He reveals the sacrifices He undertakes, bearing the karmic burdens of His disciples and accepting responsibility for their actions to uplift them towards soul awakening.

Compared with other Velvis, this 14th Velvi was performed with greater austerity and intensity. Even if a person gains Tattva (philosophy), Dhavam (spiritual discipline), and wisdom, the body will still carry out its natural functions if its needs are ignored. Then why should this Velvi be so strict?
When a mother sees her children suffering from illness or difficulties in body or mind, she prays to God and performs various acts of devotion so that the sins they may have committed knowingly or unknowingly are removed. If a child suffers from a disease like pox, the mother becomes even more devoted and disciplined than the child. For the sake of her child’s recovery, she observes fasts, performs prayers, and willingly endures hunger and hardship without complaint.
In the same way, a Guru acts for the sake of those who sincerely seek truth. All those who have received initiation in this Gnanapeedam are like beloved children of wisdom. Before gaining true knowledge, whatever actions you perform, knowingly or unknowingly, belong to you alone. But once Kundalini initiation is given, the responsibility of guiding and protecting you also rests with the Guru.
If you cause suffering to other living beings through your thoughts, words, or actions, that responsibility reaches the Guru as well. After countless births, you have obtained this rare human birth, and in this life you have come to the Guru to attain wisdom. To ensure that the mistakes you make do not harm you, the Guru performs these Holy Penance.
Guru does not perform them to gain power for Himself. Instead, I pray to God so that the suffering and sorrow that may arise from the actions of my beloved seekers, whether done knowingly or unknowingly, may be removed. I pray that they should not face suffering in this life and that they may attain liberation itself.
Even after reaching the Guru through many hardships, if they continue to live only with attachment to the body and fail to recognise their true nature, they will have to experience the consequences of their actions in this very life. This world is the field of karma: whatever you sow, you must reap. Whether one is a saint or a great sage, no one can escape the results of their actions.
As a Guru, my only wish is that you should receive only good. Just as a mother serves food first to her husband and children and eats whatever remains, a Guru lives solely for the upliftment of those who received my teachings, so that they may grow in body, mind, and spirit.
I even pray to God not to test them again, wondering whether they will be able to bear further trials. I ask myself what should be done to remove the suffering caused by their karmic burdens, whether I should discipline the body, remain without food, or withdraw from meeting others. This Velvi was performed for that very purpose. Because the Velvi was intense, I could not speak immediately afterward. My only prayer is that you should live in wellbeing and prosperity. Every being born into this world is meant to live in happiness.
