David Abel
David Abel is a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter for The Boston Globe, an Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker, and a professor of journalism at Boston University. Over a distinguished career, Abel has reported from the front lines of war in the Balkans, covered national security, and was part of the Globe team awarded the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings.
Today, Abel’s focus centers primarily on the climate crisis and environmental policy. Immersing himself in the physical reality of his stories, he has crossed the melting Arctic Sea on a snowmobile and boarded ice-covered fishing boats in the North Atlantic. His acclaimed documentaries, including Entangled and In the Whale, explore the collision between human industry, failing policy, and fragile ecosystems, capturing the internal anxiety and resilience of communities facing a rapidly changing world.
