Alastair Humphreys

Alastair Humphreys is a British adventurer, author, and National Geographic Adventurer of the Year whose global expeditions span multiple disciplines. He spent over four years cycling 46,000 miles around the world, rowed across the Atlantic Ocean, completed a self-supported foot crossing of Iceland, and trekked 1,000 miles across the Empty Quarter desert.

Despite his massive physical resume, Alastair is most famous for pioneering the concept of "microadventures"—short, local, and accessible outdoor challenges designed for ordinary people with busy lives. His work shifts the focus away from elite, expensive expeditions toward the mental and physical reality of exploring one's own immediate surroundings. Through his best-selling books and documentary projects, Alastair explores the internal barriers to entry in exploration, pushing people to overcome the inertia of the "doorstep mile" and find wilderness within constraints.
