A startled greeting, an honest question, and a quiet yes—Mary’s encounter with Gabriel in Luke 1:26–38 still speaks to anxious hearts and hurried days. We slow down for Advent and read the text aloud, letting the angel’s words land with fresh weight: do not be afraid, the Lord is with you, nothing will be impossible with God.

We dig into the scene in Nazareth, exploring how divine favor can feel unsettling and how real faith makes space for questions without surrendering to doubt. Gabriel’s promise ties heaven’s initiative to Israel’s hope—David’s throne, a reign without end, and the Holy Spirit overshadowing what seems impossible. Mary’s response is more than compliance; it’s courageous consent, a whole-life yes that invites us to consider where we, too, can trust God’s word in the middle of uncertainty. Along the way, we highlight Elizabeth’s pregnancy as a living sign that widens belief, and we talk about practical ways to keep watch: short readings, slow breathing, a single phrase carried through the day, and simple encouragement shared with a friend.

You’ll hear our on-air banter about translations and the joy of reading Scripture clearly and simply, plus a closing call to stay watchful, prayerful, and renewed. If you’re longing for peace that doesn’t ignore reality, for hope that reorders your pace, and for a vision of Jesus’ kingdom that heals rather than crushes, this reading offers a grounded path. Listen, reflect, and pass the hope along. If this encouraged you, subscribe, share the episode with someone who needs it, and leave a review so others can find the Advent journey too.

Introducing Ashton And Today’s Reading

SPEAKER_00

Hey, welcome to Renewed Mindsets. I'm Rick, and I'm so glad you're here. Now, this is something special. For the next 25 days, we're gonna slow down, we're gonna quiet our hearts, and we're gonna turn our eyes towards Jesus as we walk through Advent together. Now every day we'll take a few minutes to breathe and reflect and remember the hope that came into the world and the hope that's coming again. Hey everybody, welcome to Renewed Mindsets and another day of the Advent Bible reading. Today we're on day 10, and we're gonna be into a real Christmas story this time. Um, I've got somebody exciting for you here. I'm not even gonna introduce her. She's gonna introduce herself and you're gonna know who it is.

SPEAKER_01

Hey everybody, you know who it is.

SPEAKER_00

It's Ashton. What's up? Listen to her saying you know who it is, like y'all used to her by now.

SPEAKER_01

Should be.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I am. It's nice not having to speak the whole time. So what are you gonna be reading today?

SPEAKER_01

Today we're reading Luke chapter one, verses 26 through 28, all about the foretelling of the birth of Jesus.

SPEAKER_00

Really? We just got two verses today.

SPEAKER_01

Through 38.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's okay. Yeah, that's okay. Twenty-eight. Two two yeah, we're just gonna stop. As you can tell, I'm still not over what I've got, so I'm just gonna give it to Ashton. Go.

In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph of the house of David. And the virgin's name was Mary, and he came to her and said, Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you. But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God, and behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end. And Mary said to the angel, How will this be, since I am a virgin? And the angel answered her, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you, and therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the son of God. And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren, for nothing will be impossible with God. And Mary said, Behold, I am the servant of the Lord. Let it be to me according to your word. And the angel departed from her.

Translation Talk And Light Banter

SPEAKER_00

Very good. Amen. What um what version are you reading there?

SPEAKER_01

I don't know, whatever it was in.

SPEAKER_00

Look it up.

SPEAKER_01

NLT. Oh, I put it in NLT, but it didn't change to it.

SPEAKER_00

What is it?

SPEAKER_01

ESV.

SPEAKER_00

That's okay. I just wanted to let everybody know that it is ESV. Because I was following along in NLT. I'm like, this isn't the same.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, up here it says NLT. Yeah, it's okay. Yeah, it's weird.

Closing Exhortation And Calls To Action
