Episode 82: 2 Platoons & left behind

Timea Parker Season 2 Episode 82
Timea:

Welcome to season two of CEO meets homeschool. My name is Timea Parker and I am both a CEO and homeschool mom to my four boys. Welcome to episode 82. In the prior podcast, I shared a 10x jump about, uh, investing in coaching and events. And so today's podcast is going to, um, start with a story from one of those. And, um, So when, let me go back and just share a little bit. So it's going to be tied to an event that Chad Wright, a former Navy SEAL and ultra runner, what he, what he puts on called The Proving Ground. And one of the reasons that I really like Chad Wright is I was part of Jesse Itzler's coaching program, BYLR, which is called, which stands for Build Your Life Resume. And Chad Wright was one of the key, uh, figures within that group the year that I was part of it. And I saw Chad Wright, you know, he'd be on a call and there could be like, there's 2, 000 participants. In this program, and he straight up shared the gospel, and it was so inspiring. It's not a Christian event at all, and he just without hesitation spoke, shared his, his story of how he came to Christ, and I remember thinking, I wanted to be in the same room because I want to be able to do that. And so that's actually the inspiration on why we ended up going to the Proving Ground. My husband and I, my husband likes Chad, right? But like, probably for different reasons. And so for our 20th anniversary, we applied to see if we can get accepted and they did. Us and another couple, couple were the only two married couples who had ever attended. And, of course, they're going to divide you. You don't get to participate in the event with your spouse. So we ended up, they had, there was two platoons. I was put on one, Ben was on the other. And the other day I was sharing this story with my husband and he was there and he was like, he told me, he goes, I don't remember any of that, but it's a core memory for me because I felt like I was the, well, I was the reason. An incident happened and it's so horrifying and maybe the word embarrassing or just one of those moments where you want the ground to open up and swallow you, but now that it's like, I went through it and I can look back at it. It's such an important memory to me, that's why I'm actually wanting to share it today. And it's kind of like the saying, through hardship, we grow. That's, this is a bit vulnerable, but I also, there's some value to this, so I thought I would share it. I actually wrote this specific story down as a 10x jump, because I was willing to put myself in this situation. Here's the deal. I, we were broken up into two platoons, and this is one of the first things we had done, and basically, it was a bit of an endurance task, and I tell everyone this, if you're thinking of going to the proving ground, I won't share too many details of it, so it can surprise you, but the instructions clearly state you can be in any physical shape to attend, and I still feel like that's a little deceiving. I was the only female on our team, And so we were doing an actual physical activity, and within moments, I was questioning, like, if this is where I should be, and What happened is basically, the two platoons had an activity, and I was left behind. Because I just couldn't keep up. Like, there's no physical way I was able to keep up. I, and Chad Wright, yells at all of these super physically fit, healthy folks in the platoon. Like, there's like a bunch of high achievers that attended this event. They were like, you're leaving your teammate behind. And I was like, oh my word, that's me. And so they, they got a, an earful from Chad. And it, when I think of that event, and I think of, so I was the person watching the platoon leave. And so I was the, I had a perspective that no one else saw. And I remember thinking like, I didn't know what was going to happen. And it was such a vulnerable moment. But I'm so grateful that I went through that. Anyway, and so because of my weakness, you know, who knows, maybe I helped bring our team together. On the flip side, I had a thought. There was some folks that came to this and they were incredibly intelligent, incredibly fit, like high endurance. They may have been like, I can do everything on my own. I don't need anyone. Whereas for me, I, I couldn't keep up right from the beginning. But it was such a good learning experience for me. And although it was incredibly difficult, I wouldn't, I wouldn't change going through the process, I didn't know what to expect. And so this is just the concept of do hard things, and probably if this had been listed out ahead of time, I may not have attended. So it was good I didn't know, and I'm so grateful because I've definitely grown from the experience. And even sharing this little story from that event today. I've gotten better at sharing vulnerable moments because I think it actually, it helps people to hear all of our struggles. So, I'll just summarize. I'm going to title this, Two Platoons and Less Behind. It's kind of a different perspective when you're at the back of the line watching, you know, everyone get further ahead. And then, but the concept of this is do hard things. And that was an event that was incredibly difficult. And, and it was scary. And it's, those are the things that help us grow and level up. Have a great day, everyone. If you have enjoyed today's episode, please consider liking and subscribing. This will help me reach more CEOs and homeschoolers. Thanks so much.
