Episode 92: Facing Fears

Welcome to season two of CEO Meets Homeschool. My name is Timea Parker, and I'm both a CEO and homeschool mom to my four boys. Welcome to episode 92. I wanna share the highlight of my week, but before I can share that, I need to give you a bit of a backstory. So I will briefly go over the fact that perimenopause is the worst for the men listeners. Be kind to your wives and your partners when over 40. 'cause it's a struggle. But I wanted to share that with this new phase of my life last fall. I had, without realizing, gotten a ton of anxiety and we just moved to Montana to go skiing and all of a sudden out of nowhere, I have a lot of anxiety on the chairlift. Things like, I'm gonna fall off. And so this is actually like, just like hormones and thankfully we have amazing like options and things help make you feel better, so I'm a lot better from that. But I wanted to share that because when I had my birthday last year, I got ski lessons and I have not used those until this past week. And I realized. To add to the fact that I talk about facing fears all the time. Now I have this whole fun noon level of anxiety from this stage of life I'm in. And I was like, I am not gonna let this like stop me. So it's like you have to work at it and figure out options. So I ended up finally scheduling the lesson and I. Even A funny thing is, is with snow I, I have some anxiety of driving in a snowstorm or snow, and so there was snow and I was like, I'm gonna drive up to the mountain by myself. And I did that and it was super easy. No problem. So then I get registered and I set up with my ski lessons, and this one was a group lesson. No problem. Super easy. We're on the chairlift. I didn't even think about it. Super easy, wonderful lessons. It was so much fun. But the reason I wanted to share that is, oh my word. I had so much fear and anxiety over this, like this new like phase that I was facing, and when I finally, I put it on the calendar, I made the reservation, I broke it into tiny baby steps. Let me tell you, after the lesson was done, I wrote up a chairlift by myself to just kind of keep stretching that like whatever it is, anxiety that's been growing in this phase of life that I'm in. I was so excited to be on the other side of fear for this particular thing, and I just think that's really important because I have watched people I care about as they age, they stop doing the stuff. Not all of them, but a lot of. Folks, they just stop adventuring, stop doing things they love. And whether it's fear or other health reasons or whatever it is, I think we come to a crossroads where we have to decide, am I gonna keep pushing myself and, and growing or adventuring even with new things like anxiety or fear creeping in. Or am I gonna just stop doing things? And so I could have skipped my ski lessons and not gone on my own. I felt like I was relying a lot on my husband, Ben, or my firstborn, who's like a six foot kiddo that I'm basically like, if I'm gonna fall, you're gonna catch me on the chairlift, which is ridiculous. But that was just my thought process anyway. So I wanted to just share about facing fears and. That was the highlight of this week because I'm on the other side of that and I was so pleased I did that and it was such an enjoyable day and it's kind of worth talking about. Have a great day.
