CEO Meets Homeschool with Timea Parker
Episode 94: Snowstorm on the summit
Welcome to season two of CEO Meets Homeschool. My name is Timea Parker, and I'm both a CEO and homeschool mom to my four boys. Welcome to episode 94. So I'm well into quarter two of 2025, but I'm gonna give a bit of a recap of quarter one. And the main thing I'll talk about today is one of our goal, my goals was to ski with the family at least 30 times as part of our homeschool winter plans. And I'm grateful to say I managed to go 31 times. The family used the past 33 times, but my number was a bit different. So it was really. Really a phenomenal core memory winter for our family. And I was gonna share two different experiences tied to that. But the first one has to do more with business. I've mentioned prior I switched to a four hour work week, and I've really been hyper-focused on time blocking, being very intentional who not how principles and. One of the days that I was skiing, I, I had one meeting and I had to connect with this individual to keep things moving forward. I really just needed 10 or 15 minutes and it was pretty important and the timing was a little bit off and I remember thinking, man, I'm gonna be on a ski. The chairlift going up to the mountain when I had this meeting. So I managed to coordinate saying, Hey, I'm gonna be a few minutes late. So when I got to the summit. I, it's incredible. I, I don't, I'm so pleased, but I had just a little bit of reception at the summit, so I took a call. On the summit that day, and I kid you not, Montana, weather is bonkers. When I got to the summit, there was a full snowstorm going on and like a blizzard. So I get on this call and I'm outside and I have to take my helmet off, and I have. My glove off holding the phone and I, I focus and we get some of these questions. Some, you know, we had to go over a couple items, we get everything lined up and I hang up and I was like thinking I'm on the top of the mountain in a snowstorm who even does this, taking a business call. And I was so happy that I could just hang up from there. Catch up with my kids and just have a wonderful time. And I feel like that's so important to remind ourselves. Sometimes we'll push away our family or the kids or whatever, because work and business takes us away and I, I feel like you can do both. In that case, I had to take this call, but I, I managed to coordinate so I didn't miss out with family and I wanted to share about that. And then. I was gonna mention, so as we got past about 20 ski days, my family started to fizzle out. They were getting tired, and I was like, we can do it. I just wanted to see if we could hit 30 ski days. And so I. It was still wonderful. Even if we had stopped to say 22 days, I would've loved it, but I kept pushing, saying, let's finish strong. It was a goal. I really wanna see if we could accomplish it. And so what ended up happening, and this is what I wanted to share, is every time I. It kind of was getting, like the season was starting to wrap up and some of the kids were like kind of done and we were finishing when we kept going. Beautiful memories were still created, but it was a shift. So my younger ones had gotten outta ski school and they had like significantly improved. So what ended up happening if I would go up the mountain with one of them. So I was like taking one at a time at this point, or a couple of them, whoever was wanting to go, was pretty laid back. And my youngest is probably one of the best skiers in our household. And what happened is he started taking me all over the mountain through little. Trails through the trees like, I mean, we had Epic adventures and I was like, I didn't expect it and it was so much fun and most of my family has been comfortable with Blue runs, but my youngest was like, Hey, let's do this. It's Black Diamond, and I grew up with some black diamond, so I was like, okay, I'm just kind of here to enjoy everyone's company. So my youngest started taking me down black diamonds. Then we get home and he's like, oh, I guess he called it flexed. He's like, yeah, I'm doing black diamonds. And all of a sudden his three older brothers were like, oh, no way are you gonna get ahead of me. So all of a sudden there was this momentum and all these other brothers were like, I need to do this and keep up with the youngest. And it was so much fun. Like, so not only did we go on all these new trails toward the end of the year, my kids just started like taking ownership of this experience of skiing. It wasn't just me. Saying we're showing up. They were creating their own adventures and moments, and as a mom, I got to just be part of it and watch them, and it was really, really wonderful. So I hope you plan plenty of adventures for next winter and actually as we're heading into summer, for summer as well. Have a great day.
