Ex Parte is Latin for “one party.” This refers to motions, hearings, or orders granted
for the benefit of one party only. This exception to the rule that both parties must be present at any argument before a judge is usually related to temporary orders, like a restraining order or temporary child custody until a formal hearing can be held.
