Recovery is a process of decisions.
Welcome to the Recovery is a Process of Decisions podcast. This is Trent Thomas, your recovery peer support specialist. This week's episode is entitled, Recovery is transformational. God's will is proven within recovery. God remakes and reshapes one's life through recovery. God's purpose is not in vain. Recovery redefines our purpose in life, no longer materialistic, but rather spiritual. Recovery reforms what matters most in our life. Having is no longer the thing. What we like and who likes us is no longer what matters in our life. Recovery is transformational. Recovery is contagious. What matters in your life becomes inspirational to those you come in contact with. Cleaning up becomes contagious. A dead man cannot clean up. It takes the power we get from God to perform the act of cleaning up. The power to reform and do better comes from God. A servant to sin cannot clean up in the eyes of God. Serving what is wrong robs one of the power to do what is right. Serving a sinful nature deters one from faithfully executing that which is right and correct. Wickedness promotes more wickedness. Sin incorporates sin. The converse is also true. Correct living promotes correct living. Being truthful beams truth to all it comes into contact with. Truth radiates truth. Truth is contagious. Truth affects all it touches. Truth emanates from God because God is truth. Everything God does is truthful. God cannot lie. The truth that begins with God empowers the entire universe. All things exist at the permission of God. By his permission, we take our very next breath. If you don't believe this, tell your heart to stop and then start again. We are powerless over the functions that permit us to live. But there is a power greater than us that can and does empower us to live. This power I call God. You can call it whatever you want, but you know it's not you. You are not the great I am. There is a power greater than us all that charges the entire universe to move, to breathe, to exist, to live. God can take nothing and make it everything. From nothing, he formed and fashioned the entire universe as we know it. From a know-nothing sinner, blind to my own life purpose, ignorant of sanity and direction. It was a power greater than me that saw fit to save me from myself. He humbled me and brought me to my knees and asked me, do you need help? My cry for help was heard and he sent me instructions to follow. By following these instructions, the rewards came down as the prayers went up. From a nobody to a somebody, from being worthless to being worthy, from being ignorant to now being knowledgeable, from being homeless to now a homeowner, from being a taker to now being a caregiver, from wishing to being served to now serving as many as possible. From premature death to now living every day to the fullest. I am alive. Today I live life on life's terms. I love and I am loved. I care and I'm cared for. I give and I am giving to. With that prayer, my recovery transforms itself into the ultimate expression of God's greatness.
