Welcome to the Recovery is a Process of Decisions podcast. This is Trent Thomas, your recovery peer support specialist. This week's episode is entitled Recovery is the reward. God rewards those whom he wants. This was demonstrated in the Bible in the story of the Israelites. In that story, God chose the nation of Israel to be his representatives based on a promise he made to Abraham. Abraham's descendants proved to be the recipient of the rewards from God. One would say, why were they the only ones to receive the rewards from God? However, one would need to be mindful that with this reward came the responsibility of carrying the burden of being God's chosen people. Heavy was the load, for great was the punishment for not obeying God's commands. As the story unfolded, rich was the reward for the nation's obedience to their heavenly Father, but great was the punishment for their disobedience. In fact, total annihilation was afforded the nation for their failure to follow the instructions of God Almighty. What was true for them became evidence for future generations on what to and what not to do when obeying God's instructions. With the struggle of life, we learn perseverance, endurance, patience, faith, strength of character, resilience, and purpose. Struggle is absolutely necessary for life to become purposeful and mission-driven. For enduring these struggles, we gain the rich rewards of life. A newborn again, hope-filled individual with strong character and a stubborn will for living life to its fullest. Recovery is the reward for sustaining the will to live and not die. Recovery is that bucket of gold at the end of a depressed, anxiety-filled, pothole-laden, dark road of hopelessness. Recovery is that fresh cut on payday. That first breath of fresh air after being hit by a wall of exploded stone. First light of day after waking from a deep coma. Recovery is the heart-filled next breath after being overcome by a 10-foot wave. Recovery is a no-excuse rendition of a life of serenity. Faith is in the waiting. And recovery is a life built on faith. The kind of faith only God can give. A faith that everything is already alright, that all questions and struggles have an answer. An answer found in the God of our understanding. Recovery is the reward. A new life, a life again. Recovery is a reward to be born again. Recovery is a divine gift resulting from the human right to decide whether to live or not. Recovery is a decision to live and not die. This is Trent Thomas.
