True Freedom is when you can become the person God intended for you to become. Freedom means free from all the lies the disease of addiction places on your life. Free from the consequences of all the bad decisions one under goes while in active addiction. Freedom includes receiving the rewards of life God has given to all of us who follow the truth, the truth that comes from God. God is truth, everything God does is truthful. God cannot lie. Truth is the treatment for the disease of self-deception which is addiction. Listen as Trent reveals why for him recovery is freedom.

Recovery is a process of decisions.
Welcome to the Recovery is a Process of Decisions podcast. This is Trent Thomas, your recovery peer support specialist. This week's episode is entitled Recovery is Freedom. Freedom is established when you can become the person God intended you to be. Free from the constrictions that hold us back, that hold us down. Free from the things that misdirect or deceive us into a unfulfilling life. Free to pursue the rich rewards that God has placed in life for us to obtain. Freedom means to be free from the confusion of false teachings, false beliefs. Freedom constitutes being free from restrictive habits. Free from the captivity of immorality and lies we choose to pursue. Freedom means free from the consequences that follow the misgivings of bad decisions. Freedom means moving forward in life. Not backward, not standing still, but rather moving forward, forward in spite of the winds of struggle. Life is a struggle, a constant struggle. One struggle after another. Life involves a living decision, a constant adherence to just doing better. Never perfect. We must live in a constant state of improvement. Freedom involves living today, not in a fear of the hereafter. We should not exchange our lives today for an imaginative place in our future. Freedom includes freedom from the bondage of hell. Hell is a state we can place ourselves in today, in the here and now. Hell as an imaginative place of heat and fire creates a state of bondage. Recovery frees us from the bondage of a hellfire doctrine, a place from the imagination of the writer Dante. Hellfire is an imaginative story written by a very creative writer. This hellfire doctrine is a fictional story of make-believe. Recovery entails rejecting this fantasy for living life on life's terms. The here and now is all we have control over. This is the life we have been blessed with. A blessing from the God of our understanding. God presents and promotes freedom. Freedom is accomplished with truth. There is a biblical scripture that states, the truth will set you free. Truth is from God. The truth that is God will free you from the captivity of lies and the weight of maintaining the lies. Lies incorporate failure. Truth represents freedom. Truth reveals the lies of deception, of misdirection, of consequences. Lies are the seed of contradiction, contraction, subtraction, and bondage. Truth reveals life as it should be. A life of great promise. Truth frees us from the chains of our past. We need not be victims of our bad past decision. Recovery is freedom. Recovery is the promise of being set free. Addiction is a disease of self-deception. A disease where we lie to ourselves first and repeatedly over and over again. Then we push this lie to everyone we come in contact with. We lie to ourselves when we tell ourselves that we need a substance to get through the day, to maintain peace within ourselves, to live, to exist. The truth that a drink or a drug can satisfy our formation of life is contrary to reality. This false narrative presents itself as a cascading series of failures, culminating with death as its conclusion. This is the premise for the disease of addiction. Ultimately, addiction wants us dead. It will survive within misery and successions of failure, leading to depression and suicide. The disease of addiction is seeded with one lie and then becomes a cascade of lies. The treatment for a disease built upon the lie is truth. Truth is the remedy for the malady of addiction. Pure truth is from God. God is truth. Everything God does is truthful. God cannot lie. If truth is the treatment and God is truth, then more God in our lives represents the elimination of the symptoms of the disease of addiction. There is no recovery without God. Freedom is found with God. Lies enslave and bind us. Lies tie us to the constructs of desires and uncontrolled feeling. Truth represents clarity and structure based upon facts. Lies avoid pain and promote immoral desires. These desires bind us to temporary feeling, thus creating false satisfaction. Satisfaction based on lies is a dream that ends as a nightmare. True freedom is a life of fulfilled promises granted to us by the God of our understanding. Freedom includes a belief in a new start, a life of improvement, no regrets, just learned lessons. New pathways built from old bad decisions. The road of life is continuous and filled with struggle. Freedom is not easy, nor is it free. Freedom is earned with constant vigilance, perseverance, and a belief in a power greater than ourselves. Freedom is the reward for never giving up or end. Freedom is the blessing endowed upon the strong character and the fervent will of those who choose to do the next right thing. Each and every day, one day at a time.
