00:00:09.480 chaga chii okay so this is going to be a
00:00:15.640 series that is for our newsletter
00:00:19.119 subscribers only and we're going to give
00:00:21.720 you the tea on the what do we call it
00:00:24.720 the state of the podcast state of the
00:00:26.480 podcast state of the podcast we as
00:00:29.400 everything that try to do being
00:00:31.399 transparent about the process is really
00:00:34.800 the most important part and we don't in
00:00:37.800 a year from now if this is this podcast
00:00:41.280 thing works and it's successful then you
00:00:45.239 will will bring you along the way
00:00:46.920 regardless of the outcome like we're
00:00:48.320 going to bring you along the way like
00:00:50.120 how we started a podcast from zero is it
00:00:53.600 worth it mhm what have we learn what
00:00:56.239 have we learned what challenges are we
00:00:58.399 having how are we thinking about our
00:01:00.359 guest strategy how are we going to
00:01:03.320 monetize and when um the stats we just
00:01:07.960 found or Haley found the this website
00:01:11.200 that shows you your stats of who's
00:01:13.200 listening how often where they're
00:01:16.080 listening and we'll share you we'll
00:01:18.520 share all of the stats at the end of
00:01:19.920 this episode but we have a lot more
00:01:21.200 listeners than we thought we did and
00:01:22.400 they're in places that we had no idea we
00:01:24.720 were reaching and we're even on some
00:01:26.640 charts yeah we're on some charts so stay
00:01:29.159 tuned yeah I know not just Ireland
00:01:31.720 either yeah popping up in other places
00:01:34.079 yep but I don't know anything else that
00:01:36.280 you would add about what the purpose of
00:01:38.720 this update is yeah I think it's just I
00:01:41.759 think a lot of people when they're
00:01:43.399 thinking about starting a podcast or
00:01:45.119 even people that aren't it's you get
00:01:47.119 very curious about what goes into it and
00:01:50.880 what the stat looks like what results
00:01:52.719 come out of it is nobody listening or
00:01:55.799 random people finding it and listening
00:01:57.880 we just want to show you guys the behind
00:02:00.119 the scenes of what it actually looks
00:02:01.799 like and hopefully you'll grow watch us
00:02:05.280 grow together and so this first episode
00:02:07.880 we'll share our stats hopefully in a
00:02:09.440 year we won't be going down and we'll
00:02:11.840 just be going up but so yeah I think it
00:02:14.239 would be really cool to like take the
00:02:16.319 community with us and show yeah the step
00:02:19.360 by steps and if you want to start a
00:02:20.879 podcast then you have a better
00:02:23.280 understanding because you've seen the
00:02:24.440 process done before yeah you're invited
00:02:27.400 to the room where this are being made
00:02:30.800 and information is being shared that
00:02:32.760 you're not necessarily in but we're
00:02:34.200 inviting you again to the whole purpose
00:02:35.760 of our the podcast is opening the doors
00:02:38.879 to a room where an interesting
00:02:40.879 conversation is happening that you're
00:02:42.319 not necessarily in and we want to let
00:02:43.920 you in and same thing here we're
00:02:45.959 actually talking about where where we've
00:02:48.519 been how we started challenges where
00:02:50.440 we're going how we're thinking about
00:02:51.920 this so join us in the behind the scenes
00:02:55.480 of how we're building and growing the
00:02:58.040 podcast so this will be a bon bonus
00:03:00.040 episode every month for email
00:03:02.519 subscribers only yeah it'll be a private
00:03:04.280 episode we're just opening this first
00:03:06.120 one up to the public so you guys can see
00:03:09.000 what it's like and then join the email
00:03:10.560 newsletter at get gay.com if you want to
00:03:14.000 get these episodes in your inbox but
00:03:16.200 it's for VIPs only so
00:03:19.000 yes should we start with why we even
00:03:22.400 started or like what are
00:03:24.480 first I don't even how did we make the
00:03:27.599 decision to start a podcast cuz we
00:03:30.120 started the conversation with we want to
00:03:33.080 build a community of women that actually
00:03:35.640 support each other and don't gatekeep
00:03:37.640 information and feel like there's room
00:03:39.519 at the top for everybody and that didn't
00:03:42.640 organically I guess maybe during one of
00:03:45.239 our book club meetings like six months
00:03:48.560 ago I said something like I want to
00:03:50.439 start a podcast yeah it was definitely
00:03:52.120 the first thing you said but then we
00:03:54.319 talked and I so you had the idea for
00:03:56.959 gayl we met for coffee so that we could
00:03:58.879 talk about your idea for and or the
00:04:01.120 anti-gay Keepers Club yes and then I was
00:04:04.280 trying to figure out I wanted to do
00:04:06.319 something where I was teaching business
00:04:08.079 owners how to start and scale a business
00:04:10.840 or something to work from homies I
00:04:12.480 wanted to show people how they could
00:04:13.799 work from home and then we met for
00:04:15.640 coffee and I feel like we were both just
00:04:17.238 like we should just do this together and
00:04:20.040 I was like your idea is better and then
00:04:23.000 but at the time we were I was saying
00:04:24.759 like oh you could build a community and
00:04:27.120 then we so we started off like thinking
00:04:30.080 about building a community but then I
00:04:32.479 feel like we were just like the podcast
00:04:34.680 this just makes sense like it makes
00:04:36.479 sense because what we're trying to do is
00:04:39.919 provide access to conversations that not
00:04:43.360 everybody has the ability to like have
00:04:45.600 or set up for themselves like we're
00:04:47.280 going to continue to interview people
00:04:49.360 that we didn't even know we could have
00:04:51.520 access to some of the people that we're
00:04:53.000 recording with in December and January
00:04:55.440 are incredible incredibly successful
00:04:58.160 have built huge brands for them
00:04:59.680 themselves and are certainly not in our
00:05:01.600 personal networks but the point of the
00:05:05.000 community was connecting women and
00:05:08.160 access to information and conversations
00:05:10.440 in brains that you wouldn't otherwise
00:05:12.000 have access to same thing for the
00:05:13.520 podcast so I guess it was an like it was
00:05:15.360 an organic uh pivot to well we have to
00:05:19.000 document the conversations we're having
00:05:21.160 it's also an amazing way to network yeah
00:05:24.840 you want to talk about like the what's
00:05:27.600 like the best things that have come out
00:05:29.680 of the podcast for you so far yeah uh I
00:05:33.319 have been blown away with how generous
00:05:37.240 people in my network have been with
00:05:39.759 their own networks and offering to
00:05:42.080 introduce me to people that they know
00:05:44.919 that I'm like 6° separated from or more
00:05:48.440 and they're like oh yeah no problem let
00:05:49.759 me text them right now and introduce you
00:05:52.039 and that's been incredible especially
00:05:55.240 because I never really thought we'd be
00:05:57.360 able to talk to these people and it's
00:05:58.800 not about my gosh they're Untouchable
00:06:00.919 it's not that it's I'm so fascinated
00:06:03.319 with what they built I'm so fascinated
00:06:05.440 with were they intentional about how
00:06:06.919 they built their business and their
00:06:08.000 brand did they know that becoming an
00:06:10.440 influencer was step one to building a
00:06:13.680 life that they're looking for so I think
00:06:16.240 I've learned so much from the
00:06:17.599 conversations that we've had and that
00:06:19.080 it's been so validating that the the
00:06:22.039 angle we're taking to these
00:06:24.880 conversations is different than what
00:06:27.479 most people talk about when they go on a
00:06:31.240 personal growth or entrepreneurial
00:06:34.400 business podcast typically when you're
00:06:36.599 asked to be on a podcast that is in that
00:06:39.039 category you're asked to say okay tell
00:06:40.599 me how you started your business and
00:06:42.120 it's really it's really business focused
00:06:44.000 it's not as much about so how do you how
00:06:47.360 did you get to the place where you're
00:06:48.680 able to say no to things how do you feel
00:06:51.280 about yourself are do you have high
00:06:53.720 self- worth low self worth what is that
00:06:55.280 Journey been like and but that's the
00:06:57.120 that's really in my opinion the most
00:06:58.879 important part part of how anybody built
00:07:01.319 something successful is who are you as a
00:07:02.960 person and how have you felt along the
00:07:04.440 way yeah and how have you evolved so I
00:07:07.160 think like the thing I've gotten the
00:07:09.120 most out of this journey is the
00:07:12.280 conversations themselves have been
00:07:14.759 amazing watching people resonate with
00:07:18.199 these conversations and offer to
00:07:19.919 introduce us to people yeah has been
00:07:22.039 really awesome and then it is it does
00:07:25.680 make me feel good that we're sharing
00:07:27.479 these conversations with people mhm yeah
00:07:30.120 I agree what about you a lot of the same
00:07:34.000 a lot of very validating and feeling wow
00:07:36.479 people are actually listening and having
00:07:39.199 way more than we thought yeah having
00:07:40.599 friends and stuff say oh I listen and
00:07:42.720 it's so good I love to listen to it that
00:07:45.479 for me it's been I never thought I would
00:07:47.560 do a podcast I've done podcast
00:07:50.240 interviews for Cofe contracts where I am
00:07:52.599 being interviewed and I've always
00:07:54.400 thought that I was not good at it at all
00:07:57.280 I feel like I've never left a podcast
00:07:59.479 that I did in bed that went well I
00:08:01.960 always thought them was like I wonder if
00:08:04.000 they'll post that I wonder if they're
00:08:05.879 just going to scrap that cuz I feel like
00:08:07.960 I have a really hard time sometimes
00:08:10.680 articulating my thoughts and I I always
00:08:13.199 look at people who are so articulate and
00:08:14.840 I'm like how are they doing that I my
00:08:18.199 mind like I can't get my thoughts into
00:08:21.240 words sometimes but I it's all about
00:08:24.400 practice so now I'm realizing that it's
00:08:26.440 getting easier and easier with every
00:08:28.000 episode we do I'm starting to figure out
00:08:31.360 how to articulate better and I'm not
00:08:34.120 panicking sometimes I get into when I'm
00:08:36.919 speaking in public or doing a podcast I
00:08:40.360 have this voice in my head that says oh
00:08:43.519 God you're not doing too well it
00:08:45.000 literally will start talking to me while
00:08:47.120 I'm speaking and it'll be like you
00:08:48.800 nobody nobody understands the word
00:08:50.959 you're saying right now and it starts
00:08:52.920 make me spiral and do bad but that's
00:08:56.120 getting a lot better all that to say
00:08:57.880 that I this podcast has has helped me in
00:08:59.760 a lot of selfish ways it's helped me to
00:09:02.920 practice that to strengthen that muscle
00:09:06.360 and I think another great thing like if
00:09:08.320 someone is listening to this that's
00:09:09.920 considering a podcast and you already
00:09:12.000 have a business where you're needing to
00:09:14.800 create content for it or you're building
00:09:16.519 a brand or something and you need
00:09:18.079 content it is such a great way to create
00:09:21.279 content and it holds you accountable and
00:09:24.320 it's just I don't know it's killing two
00:09:27.000 multiple birds with one stone you're
00:09:28.320 networking you're Crea content you're on
00:09:31.279 podcast so now you're on another SEO
00:09:33.279 platform where people search for certain
00:09:35.560 terms and they find you so there's a ton
00:09:37.560 of benefits of it and yeah I think it's
00:09:40.680 definitely it's a really good tool for
00:09:42.399 that I one last thing in reflection on
00:09:46.200 what this has how this has impacted us
00:09:48.640 so far I didn't in hindsight it makes
00:09:51.399 total sense but I didn't realize it when
00:09:53.640 we decided to do this the most natural
00:09:56.519 way the thing I'm most curious in and
00:09:58.560 the thing that I feel like I am best at
00:10:00.560 is conversation and getting inside of
00:10:02.959 someone's head and just taking the
00:10:05.200 Curiosity that I have and tinkering
00:10:07.120 around in somebody else's brain and
00:10:08.640 getting them to share and feel
00:10:10.000 comfortable and be open and I didn't
00:10:12.760 realize that the podcast is a way for
00:10:16.839 people to get to know us yeah and get to
00:10:19.160 know the way we think and the change
00:10:21.640 that we're trying to make or the people
00:10:24.320 were trying to relate to um in like this
00:10:26.959 abundance mindset versus scarcity like
00:10:29.279 there is room for all of us at the top
00:10:31.720 and actually in fact in a room where all
00:10:34.720 your friends are there for you to be
00:10:36.720 sitting there looking at how impressed
00:10:38.720 you are with all your friends and how
00:10:40.360 successful they've been and how much
00:10:41.959 they've accomplished is like a way
00:10:43.360 better feeling than sitting in a room
00:10:45.079 and thinking I have done so much more
00:10:46.959 than everybody around me like who wants
00:10:48.959 that you want to be you want to see all
00:10:51.320 the people you love successful so it's
00:10:54.440 been a natural way for people to get to
00:10:57.160 know us the way that we think for us to
00:10:59.040 to build our brand and for us to really
00:11:01.040 actually identify like what gatess even
00:11:02.680 is through these conversations as
00:11:04.920 opposed to us being like okay I'm going
00:11:06.639 to record a bunch of reals and put them
00:11:08.560 on Instagram like that is not natural
00:11:10.839 for me I'm trying to do it I am paying
00:11:13.440 the suck tax big time in that Arena but
00:11:16.399 and I know it's important but it's like
00:11:19.160 yeah but what better way for somebody to
00:11:20.480 get to know us and our brand and what
00:11:21.560 we're trying to do than just listening
00:11:22.720 to us have a conversation yeah in terms
00:11:24.639 of the marketing World everybody's
00:11:26.000 talking about how long form content is
00:11:28.279 trending short term really short form
00:11:30.639 content is like on the right now long
00:11:33.240 form content is like doing really well
00:11:35.320 short form content is falling behind a
00:11:37.200 little bit so interesting I wonder why
00:11:39.200 do people are tired of it I think people
00:11:41.160 are tired of the fast inundated with
00:11:43.480 tiny Snippets of what even just watch
00:11:45.680 that made me feel weird yeah when you
00:11:46.920 watch a long form piece of content you
00:11:48.680 really get to know the Creator a lot
00:11:50.240 better and um yeah and listen take it in
00:11:53.680 slowly listen while you're doing the
00:11:55.120 dishes while you're doing your laundry
00:11:57.440 yeah okay so in terms of how we got
00:12:00.320 started from a setup starting a podcast
00:12:03.880 is one of I think there's a lower
00:12:06.680 barrier to entry than a lot of people
00:12:08.720 think yeah you don't have to be a huge
00:12:12.000 business to start a podcast you don't
00:12:13.399 have to have a huge brand to start a
00:12:14.639 podcast talk about the cost and like the
00:12:16.279 exact step by step what did we buy we
00:12:18.839 didn't really buy anything right away
00:12:20.760 but we may be pivoting to buying our own
00:12:24.040 equipment set up but we found a podcast
00:12:27.000 studio in Tampa and there's like a in
00:12:29.120 the area where you pay we're paying like
00:12:31.279 a monthly $950 a month we get two
00:12:34.600 episodes two long form episodes and two
00:12:38.519 social Snippets from those episodes
00:12:40.880 right and yeah that was just something
00:12:43.600 that we decided to invest our own money
00:12:46.920 in a little bit of our own money to take
00:12:50.800 our preserve our time like we both are
00:12:52.880 busy and have a lot of responsibility so
00:12:55.360 it was worth it to us to use some of our
00:12:56.959 own money that maybe would we would use
00:12:58.519 for like like fund money or something
00:13:00.000 like that to invest in the business so
00:13:01.480 that we could have more of our time back
00:13:03.199 and we weren't sitting here figuring out
00:13:04.600 how to produce and I think people can
00:13:06.240 totally you can still start a podcast on
00:13:08.399 your laptop with the plugged in Apple
00:13:11.120 headphones absolutely but the reason we
00:13:13.360 chose thatout route is because I think
00:13:15.560 it also held us accountable to have a
00:13:18.320 time slot it did scheduled with a
00:13:20.560 company and you have to show up and it's
00:13:22.519 really cool because I've recorded a ton
00:13:23.959 of videos for coffee and contracts that
00:13:25.800 had never hit the light of day because I
00:13:28.320 recorded and I was like H once I'm done
00:13:30.399 recording I'm like I do not want to edit
00:13:32.079 this so it just and I'm like it probably
00:13:33.800 wasn't even good anyway so it and then
00:13:35.560 they just edit it for you so I would
00:13:37.480 recommend that starting off but you
00:13:39.600 learn a lot too about the I guess you
00:13:43.560 learn about the way that you should be
00:13:46.639 preparing for the episodes you I I think
00:13:49.360 to your point I guess it's to the same
00:13:50.959 point of accountability it felt more
00:13:52.880 like something that we had to date for
00:13:54.399 we had to prep for as opposed to us
00:13:57.000 pivoting and picking up really quickly
00:13:58.800 and doing it on our laptops we could
00:14:00.560 been scrappier but we could have been
00:14:02.120 scrappier but that's a choice we we
00:14:04.399 specifically made the choice to not be
00:14:05.519 scrappier from the beginning because we
00:14:06.720 wanted it to be very high quality from
00:14:08.880 the beginning we wanted to have we also
00:14:10.880 made the decision that most of our
00:14:12.639 guests were going to be in person and so
00:14:15.079 we wanted to invite them to like a
00:14:17.120 professional place to record as opposed
00:14:19.440 to our house which we could do for sure
00:14:22.519 and I actually really love the idea that
00:14:24.440 we got from one of our guests Marin
00:14:26.279 gatess on the go yeah and recording
00:14:29.519 as we're on thead and traveling for work
00:14:32.320 or personal as things come up and topics
00:14:34.680 come up or we meet somebody that we want
00:14:36.120 to interview so we're going to start to
00:14:38.240 Pivot to having our own equipment to
00:14:40.920 produce our own when we want to yeah and
00:14:44.519 I guess to to do that you need to have
00:14:48.360 microphones microphones yeah Bluetooth
00:14:51.120 or Plugin preferably plugin yeah once we
00:14:53.959 get our I'll tell you what once we get
00:14:55.639 our setup going on the next version of
00:14:58.440 this we'll tell you guys every piece of
00:15:00.120 equipment that we bought and how we like
00:15:02.320 it right now we're literally recording
00:15:04.320 on a Canon
00:15:06.639 g7x so it's it's a camera that went
00:15:09.279 viral on Tik Tok because all the girls
00:15:11.600 is this for vlogging it can be for
00:15:13.360 vlogging it's a good vlogging camera but
00:15:15.000 all the girlies are taking the flash
00:15:17.959 camera if you're taking picture in front
00:15:19.360 of a sunset you know how the iPhone
00:15:20.880 never gets it good yeah these cameras
00:15:22.959 are really good with the flash for flash
00:15:25.560 photos we I used it in California on my
00:15:27.800 birthday and oh nice my friends were
00:15:30.040 like oh my gosh this is amazing it's
00:15:32.240 amazing it's the one that yeah anyways
00:15:35.120 do you sent me the link right yeah no
00:15:37.120 you sent me the link to a different one
00:15:39.079 oh I did I thought you said you liked
00:15:40.199 your Sony better or no you like your I
00:15:42.279 like the Canon you like the Canon
00:15:43.600 hopefully I didn't send you the Sony
00:15:44.759 link no you'rea you're probably right
00:15:47.240 okay and then what else did we have to
00:15:49.959 invest in like nothing really we don't
00:15:52.079 pay for both sprout right nope so that
00:15:54.959 if you're wondering like okay how do I
00:15:56.560 get it on the internet you can there's
00:15:58.800 multiple different platforms for this
00:16:00.240 but we're using Buzz Sprout and you
00:16:01.839 basically they help you it's your
00:16:04.079 publisher part yeah so they publish it
00:16:05.880 for you so you just make an account on
00:16:07.360 Buzz Sprout and you how you're you
00:16:10.000 actually upload your episodes to you're
00:16:11.800 not uploading directly to Spotify or
00:16:13.880 directly to Apple podcast you're
00:16:16.160 uploading to buzz Sprout they verify
00:16:18.959 that you're not a robot yeah and then
00:16:21.000 they publish you on you select which
00:16:23.519 Outlets you want to publish on we're
00:16:24.880 doing Spotify and apple podcast um and
00:16:28.160 then they also track all your stats for
00:16:30.120 you your downloads your listens trending
00:16:32.560 over time not a lot though the not a lot
00:16:34.920 that's true reic is the one oh with the
00:16:37.440 all the all the stats ronic okay yeah
00:16:40.079 that ronic you can search for anyone's
00:16:42.120 podcast and see how many listen
00:16:43.759 listeners they have per month what
00:16:45.160 charts they're on and then if it's like
00:16:47.240 a they have a lot of episodes or it's a
00:16:48.880 bigger podcast it'll show is it skewing
00:16:51.680 female or male what's their engagement
00:16:53.560 score we don't have those yet I think
00:16:56.160 it's once you have like enough data that
00:16:57.839 they can look through for that and like
00:17:00.079 how many episodes they have which we'll
00:17:01.839 read those to you shortly here yes and
00:17:04.439 then the way you could edit there's
00:17:07.079 there's several sites that have ai
00:17:09.959 driven editing so it's super super quick
00:17:12.959 we've been using dript to get our own
00:17:16.319 social Snippets from episodes so you
00:17:18.679 upload your episode and it pretty much
00:17:20.160 looks like a a Google doc of the whole
00:17:22.319 transcription and to get a little
00:17:24.520 snippet all you do is delete the rest of
00:17:26.319 the text and it leaves only the words in
00:17:28.679 the video associated with what you want
00:17:30.160 to leave which is super cool and easy
00:17:32.840 and then that's pretty much all you have
00:17:34.960 to do you record either yourself or in a
00:17:38.200 Production Studio yeah you could totally
00:17:39.679 do it on your computer you could do it
00:17:41.039 with a tool like Riverside or you could
00:17:43.360 use zoom and then we used canva to
00:17:46.520 create the cover photo or we had we did
00:17:49.760 have a brand shoe with we I had a brand
00:17:52.200 Sho scheduled for coffee and contracts
00:17:54.080 and we lumped in quick little gate list
00:17:56.679 session shout out Lucy Solan Photography
00:17:59.480 in St Pete and we Ed those photos which
00:18:03.200 I think having high quality photos is
00:18:04.880 great um and then we used Cana to just
00:18:08.280 create a simple little cover photo yep
00:18:11.000 so yeah it's pretty easy to get started
00:18:13.320 it is easy to get started and then the
00:18:15.159 way in which we've been getting
00:18:17.679 inspiration and ideas on how to promote
00:18:20.919 or Market the episodes is honestly we've
00:18:24.039 been like we've been watching podcasts
00:18:27.679 that we really listen to and seeing how
00:18:30.240 they do it we were big podcast consumers
00:18:32.520 huge podcast still I I at least listen
00:18:34.880 one a day not more so there's a few that
00:18:37.120 we really skinny confidential and arm
00:18:38.840 expert and we just see how they promote
00:18:40.559 on Instagram we see we learn from
00:18:42.720 watching them we learn from watching how
00:18:44.159 they title their episodes how they
00:18:46.960 pull words that someone would actually
00:18:49.360 search for what platforms are they using
00:18:51.240 what platforms how frequently they're
00:18:52.799 posting how many days in advance and how
00:18:54.520 many days after yeah we've learned a ton
00:18:56.919 just from watching others do who came
00:18:58.919 before us do it really well yeah that's
00:19:00.480 like Gary ve says don't do what I say do
00:19:02.679 what I'm doing do what I do yeah watch
00:19:04.480 what I do uh so we are we're watching
00:19:06.799 what they do we're watching what they do
00:19:08.080 we don't need to ask them how they're
00:19:09.200 doing it although I wouldn't mind if
00:19:10.799 they wanted to they would tell us let us
00:19:13.080 know but so we're using Instagram
00:19:15.559 primarily because that's my red and
00:19:17.760 butter we're trying to get on Tik Tok if
00:19:19.720 I can remember the password um you
00:19:21.720 upload all the episodes YouTube YouTube
00:19:24.440 YouTube Tik Tok we're doing shorts on
00:19:26.440 YouTube as well and
00:19:28.919 that's LinkedIn we're using LinkedIn as
00:19:30.559 well yes oh yeah I'm posting the
00:19:31.919 episodes still and we're just sharing it
00:19:33.120 with our Network so I was part of a
00:19:34.720 mastermind group Jasmine's Mastermind
00:19:36.440 group and I shared it with them I'm
00:19:38.039 going to share it with another
00:19:39.280 networking group I'm in yeah smart and
00:19:42.240 yeah super smart guest strategy like the
00:19:46.000 way we
00:19:47.200 found we're back oh I was like where did
00:19:50.440 my coffee go the Cameron just died yep
00:19:52.960 see this is what happens when you
00:19:54.600 Scrappy can you see my head camera died
00:19:57.799 and he
00:19:58.919 haly changed the battery packs and now
00:20:01.320 we're going we were about to talk about
00:20:03.919 um how we thought about how we are
00:20:05.720 thinking about the guests that we have
00:20:07.799 on so there's so many there's infinite
00:20:11.440 number of people that we want to talk to
00:20:14.440 because there's so many stories to be
00:20:16.720 told and we're going to learn so much
00:20:19.120 from every single one but the we're new
00:20:21.679 and we want to get reach and we want to
00:20:24.080 reach a large audience so that these
00:20:26.440 stories can make the impact that we want
00:20:28.039 them to make so we've been pretty
00:20:30.360 intentional about finding guests who
00:20:33.400 have an audience already yeah to share
00:20:36.400 their story on the podcast so the way
00:20:38.159 that we've been reaching out to them is
00:20:40.840 through all different platforms honestly
00:20:42.559 we I have sent Instagram me DMS on
00:20:45.400 Instagram and emails that I never
00:20:48.039 thought would be seen or responded to
00:20:51.000 and they've been responded to really
00:20:52.480 quickly with yeah I love this concept
00:20:55.720 I'm in mhm and that has been really
00:20:58.400 validating and it's also given me
00:20:59.880 confidence to send even more lofty
00:21:02.000 emails like not all of them have been
00:21:03.360 responded to of course but a lot of them
00:21:05.760 have and people that we never really
00:21:08.000 thought would even see it sliding into
00:21:09.960 their DMS and finding their emails on
00:21:13.240 their website yeah and or like their bi
00:21:16.039 in their bio they typically share a link
00:21:18.159 to figure out how to contact them and
00:21:20.440 then we collaborate on you know some
00:21:22.360 people or like you're less degree
00:21:24.480 separated from certain people than I am
00:21:26.400 so I'll use my network hay has used her
00:21:28.360 network to get in touch with these
00:21:30.279 people but we really haven't had a
00:21:32.520 negative response yet M no not at all I
00:21:36.000 think there are some certain guests that
00:21:38.559 may ask you to pay to play yeah that's
00:21:41.600 true if people are bigger they have a
00:21:43.480 bigger audience they know the value that
00:21:45.960 they bring to the table then they may
00:21:49.240 ask to pay we've considered that we we
00:21:51.880 can still figure out when that is
00:21:54.559 appropriate and if the terms meet I
00:21:57.320 would say we don't want to just pay
00:21:58.640 someone to be on the podcast if they're
00:22:00.080 not going to share it with their
00:22:01.240 audience or share it on their story or
00:22:03.960 collaborate so we'll be intentional
00:22:06.120 little intentional about that but yeah I
00:22:09.600 think people love the idea behind it and
00:22:14.000 think it's a a really cool movement yeah
00:22:17.039 and the biggest diff I know I keep
00:22:18.640 saying this but this isn't we're not
00:22:20.520 trying to just highlight already
00:22:22.799 successful people success again we're
00:22:26.120 trying to highlight like how how did you
00:22:28.480 even start where did you get the
00:22:30.600 confidence in yourself to make that big
00:22:32.520 bet on yourself or your idea how did you
00:22:36.120 navigate the people that were trying to
00:22:38.039 hold you back yeah how did you figure
00:22:40.720 out what was worth your time and what
00:22:43.080 wasn't how did you fund these different
00:22:45.720 ideas so it's not just tell us about the
00:22:48.200 successful Journey you've had it's like
00:22:50.720 actually let's talk about the origin of
00:22:52.279 this and let's talk about what was hard
00:22:53.640 and let's talk about how you felt
00:22:54.840 through the process let's talk about
00:22:56.559 what you learned that you could share
00:22:57.720 with somebody so that they can learn
00:22:59.240 faster than their own experience yeah I
00:23:02.200 like really tactical information in
00:23:04.480 podcast and also I like to relate with
00:23:07.760 someone if they're
00:23:09.640 experiencing any kind of like um
00:23:12.720 self-doubt or imposter syndrome or
00:23:15.640 everyone does yeah and it's hard to
00:23:17.159 listen to a podcast and I have in the
00:23:19.320 past where you're listening to a podcast
00:23:20.600 and you're like okay you're just saying
00:23:21.919 a bunch of fluff let's how did you like
00:23:24.360 actually do that and also did you
00:23:25.880 struggle with imposter syndrome while
00:23:27.520 you were doing it like I feel so lost
00:23:29.520 here so our goal is to bring those
00:23:32.440 conversations get to the actual route um
00:23:35.679 who who's this person and who who were
00:23:37.880 you along the journey and who did you
00:23:39.440 become through it not just tell us about
00:23:42.440 the product of who you are today yeah
00:23:44.080 that's not interesting and then what are
00:23:45.000 you selling yeah it's not interesting so
00:23:47.960 yeah the guest strategy has been a bit
00:23:49.559 multifaceted but we're really just
00:23:50.799 shooting our shot oh we do have shoot
00:23:52.200 your shop Fridays where on Friday we get
00:23:55.720 together and we send off a bunch bunch
00:23:58.080 of emails and DMS that feel very
00:24:01.360 unattainable yeah and we just hype each
00:24:03.440 other up sh shoot your Friday which is
00:24:07.600 fun I love it it's great the things that
00:24:10.679 we are struggling with at the moment I
00:24:12.840 think is around at what point do we try
00:24:17.200 to monetize this do we try to monetize
00:24:19.360 it is that the purpose I did a bunch of
00:24:21.880 research on what do your stats need to
00:24:24.360 be for someone to want to sponsor your
00:24:27.039 podcast doesn't makes sense to get
00:24:28.880 picked up by a media company what are
00:24:32.360 the benefits of that I'm a very goal
00:24:34.600 oriented person like I am in sales I
00:24:36.840 need the give me the number and I will
00:24:39.080 chase it down so it's been I I think
00:24:41.960 that is why I started the research is
00:24:43.320 like what is our goal how many listeners
00:24:45.279 do we need how much advertising should
00:24:47.880 we put on here is that even what we want
00:24:49.440 to do what are the other ways to
00:24:51.080 monetize please add to this but like the
00:24:52.880 things that I have found the tangible
00:24:55.480 hard numbers that I found is that you
00:24:57.440 can start start to monetize through
00:24:59.720 advertising between 5 and 10 once you
00:25:03.399 reach 5 and 10,000 listeners per episode
00:25:06.279 which felt like a humongous number until
00:25:09.159 we saw our own stats yeah which was
00:25:11.679 really validating and you and the way
00:25:14.039 you can calculate the dollars is based
00:25:15.919 on a like Impressions per thousand
00:25:18.799 person I'm forgetting the actual acronym
00:25:20.640 that's used but it's something like PP
00:25:23.159 something like a impression per thousand
00:25:26.200 listeners and there's a dollar amount
00:25:27.799 associated with that so if you get
00:25:29.240 10,000 listeners per episode maybe
00:25:30.799 they'll pay you $200 per thousand person
00:25:34.240 that is going to hear that and that's
00:25:36.120 how they calculate the ad dollars and
00:25:37.840 $200 per ad is on the higher end it's
00:25:39.919 between 20 and 200 or 50 and 200 and I
00:25:42.760 guess the way we've thought about that
00:25:45.000 is we certainly would not
00:25:49.520 advertise with brands that don't align
00:25:53.360 with Gat list and that we don't actually
00:25:55.600 like so that's the only probably hard
00:25:57.760 line we've drawn so far but we're open
00:25:59.919 to exploring that it's not the number
00:26:02.039 one priority right now yeah at all yeah
00:26:04.880 we're just a building phase and we're
00:26:07.080 not we've had a ton of different ideas
00:26:09.360 for monetization but we haven't really
00:26:12.520 there hasn't been a moment where
00:26:13.840 something is struck and been like that's
00:26:15.440 it I think right now what's most
00:26:17.000 important for us is just building that
00:26:19.000 the audience because once you have an
00:26:21.440 audience and you have attention then you
00:26:25.399 can monetize you have you're more
00:26:27.080 flexible the ways that you can monetize
00:26:29.000 right for sure and you don't want to
00:26:30.520 monetize too soon cuz in a weird way in
00:26:33.840 an unnatural way because then that's not
00:26:37.039 what it's about it's more about just
00:26:39.440 building this platform is our like
00:26:41.159 primary goal and then soon we'll want to
00:26:45.200 monetize it so we can continue doing it
00:26:47.440 that's right that would be the only goal
00:26:49.399 to monetize is that we want it we want
00:26:51.559 to be able to keep doing it and do it
00:26:54.080 maybe more as a full-time thing yeah and
00:26:56.720 have better equipment yeah make it more
00:26:59.240 legit yeah exactly um another way that
00:27:02.480 we have explored is through uh affiliate
00:27:04.960 links so like when you listen to podcast
00:27:06.919 and they say okay here's a brand that I
00:27:09.279 love use this code to get a discount so
00:27:13.120 if when you provide it a link a discount
00:27:15.799 code or an affiliate link on any social
00:27:18.240 platform you typically get a kickback of
00:27:20.960 what's purchased through that link so
00:27:23.559 again something we're open to with
00:27:25.279 brands that we really like we actually
00:27:26.480 applied for a few
00:27:28.240 have a couple that we've been aced to we
00:27:30.320 haven't adver them we're trying to
00:27:31.679 figure out like how to do it authentic
00:27:34.240 but only brands of things we actually
00:27:36.880 use yeah we like went on we sat down at
00:27:39.799 our computers and we're like ooh
00:27:41.480 thinking about things we love like I was
00:27:43.080 like recess athletic greens cured yeah
00:27:46.120 we're like these are things that we like
00:27:47.840 so we're not yeah so we do we will start
00:27:50.080 providing codes to you especially things
00:27:52.039 we're going to talk about already and
00:27:54.080 the platforms so some of the tech
00:27:55.360 platforms that we use we have codes for
00:27:58.600 that other entrepreneurs could use to
00:28:01.279 start your business and then the other
00:28:03.159 brands so far have been like health and
00:28:05.480 wellness brand that we actually use and
00:28:07.720 then there's a ton of different ways you
00:28:09.120 can do live podcast episodes once you
00:28:11.360 have a following and sell tickets to
00:28:13.000 that you can you can have events you
00:28:15.640 have events meetups and yeah yeah did
00:28:19.200 online networking groups that kind of
00:28:21.399 thing yep let's see what about what's
00:28:25.080 like your biggest takeaway from the
00:28:27.159 learning experience so far we've only
00:28:28.880 been doing this for a month and a half
00:28:32.159 the podcast I feel like it has my
00:28:35.519 biggest takeaway has
00:28:37.440 been gosh I'm like trying to articulate
00:28:40.240 it you know what happens but my biggest
00:28:43.039 takeaway has been like I just I didn't
00:28:45.279 really have many expectations going into
00:28:47.720 starting the podcast I was very nervous
00:28:50.360 because like I said earlier I'm just
00:28:53.080 sometimes I am more of a behind the
00:28:55.080 screen quietly with my head downward
00:28:57.399 working kind of person but I feel like
00:28:59.440 the experience so far has really helped
00:29:02.039 me grow so much personally I feel like
00:29:04.039 I'm talking all about how it's kind of
00:29:05.640 fitted me personally but it really has
00:29:08.159 and I feel like it has helped me to
00:29:10.240 connect with other women and also opened
00:29:12.360 my eyes more to once you're in when
00:29:15.519 you're looking for a new car and you
00:29:16.720 notice you start to notice that car all
00:29:18.880 the time I feel like it's really help me
00:29:22.600 even become more of an anti- gatekeeper
00:29:26.080 and become more of looking towards women
00:29:29.159 that are doing really cool things and
00:29:30.600 really noticing it and being like I want
00:29:32.240 to talk to her she's doing really cool
00:29:34.159 things and just like you know what I'm
00:29:35.399 saying like it has really helped to
00:29:37.679 expand my Mak more curious about people
00:29:41.159 that think similarly to yeah before that
00:29:43.600 I feel like I've always been in my own
00:29:45.159 little world with my head down um so
00:29:48.159 it's really like I agree with that
00:29:49.679 totally yeah absolutely open my eyes to
00:29:53.200 incredible women that are creating
00:29:54.760 things that are of huge value mhm and
00:29:57.679 getting curious about how they did it
00:29:59.760 and yeah where they started and all that
00:30:01.880 stuff I agree um you want to share our
00:30:04.360 stats yeah let's get into the stats all
00:30:07.240 right moment we've all been waiting for
00:30:10.320 hopefully month over month these go up
00:30:12.080 yeah what if next mon like we've got bad
00:30:14.600 news that that'll be the journey
00:30:17.000 whatever so we've got some unfortunate
00:30:20.279 updates we're in the negatives uh okay
00:30:23.399 so we are currently at five episodes
00:30:25.600 when you're listening to this it'll
00:30:26.880 probably be
00:30:27.960 y um and we have
00:30:31.360 373 downloads since we published the
00:30:34.679 podcast like actually clicking download
00:30:36.480 on the episode yeah and that's per Buzz
00:30:39.640 Sprout they give you that information
00:30:41.880 now they don't give a lot of insights
00:30:44.360 but there are other websites that have
00:30:45.960 better podcast statistics some of them
00:30:47.720 are you have to pay for them it's really
00:30:49.039 weird the statistics of podcasts are
00:30:51.279 very strange so we use ronic and I pay
00:30:54.440 for ronic but I think they have a free
00:30:56.799 version as as well where you can search
00:30:58.279 like a certain number of podcasts but we
00:31:00.639 actually have 2,000 listeners per
00:31:03.679 episode which is crazy that is crazy we
00:31:06.320 did not expect that I expected maybe 50
00:31:08.880 I expected like 50 to 100 per episode no
00:31:11.720 2,000 per episode that's aaz that was
00:31:13.559 really cool so we launched a month ago
00:31:17.639 five episodes we're posting them every
00:31:19.440 Thursday every week we are number 88 in
00:31:24.000 Switzerland for business/
00:31:26.360 entrepreneurship
00:31:27.919 and then we are number 137 in
00:31:30.360 Switzerland for just business not
00:31:32.559 business/ entrepreneurship but the last
00:31:35.240 time I checked this we were
00:31:38.039 number 237 in IR very low but two number
00:31:42.559 237 in Ireland for Business and
00:31:44.600 Entrepreneurship but shout out to Europe
00:31:47.000 but Ireland is Ireland's not there
00:31:48.639 anymore cling the ranks in Switzerland
00:31:51.080 it's cool because it shows us everywhere
00:31:53.159 in the world that people are listening
00:31:54.519 and it's almost every continent except
00:31:56.840 for maybe Global baby yeah yeah it's so
00:31:59.639 cool that's why I love this is because
00:32:01.559 people can we can reach so much further
00:32:04.519 than our own network it's really cool
00:32:06.360 it's been super fun we're excited to
00:32:08.360 keep doing these updates I feel like
00:32:10.159 this is a really yeah fun intimate cool
00:32:13.279 series that kind of gives you a behind
00:32:15.200 the scenes look and if you ever have any
00:32:17.000 feedback on the podcast or what you want
00:32:18.679 to see or why you love gaylis we're all
00:32:20.960 ears we we love it talk to you soon bye
00:32:25.480 I hope my head wasn't cut out I don't
00:32:27.320 think it was I think that was good yeah
00:32:30.960 I we dished the
00:32:36.919 tea
