00:03:36.319 obviously started making content in the
00:03:38.000 pandemic it was very work from home
00:03:39.640 specific it was kind of offering this
00:03:41.920 Outlet of no one's talking about work
00:03:43.840 online and I sort of tried to bring
00:03:45.920 light to that I think there's a lot of
00:03:47.080 corporate creators now in the space but
00:03:49.480 I was excited to sort of like lead the
00:03:51.200 charge in a way on these kind of work
00:03:52.879 from home videos but a lot of people
00:03:54.079 were scared to to talk about it and so
00:03:57.239 from then I have expanded the brand I am
00:04:00.840 trying to really diversify content over
00:04:03.560 all under the P pillar of relatability
00:04:05.599 right I want people I want it to be
00:04:06.720 sharable I want to do moms on
00:04:08.920 Thanksgiving the friend who does this
00:04:11.480 and so really trying this year
00:04:12.959 specifically to stretch my boundaries as
00:04:15.439 like a comedic content creator and see
00:04:18.238 what bits come out of it I also launched
00:04:20.079 a podcast I don't know when this is
00:04:21.639 airing but yesterday I launched a
00:04:23.759 podcast demoted with Ross pomerance who
00:04:26.759 plays the character corporate bro and
00:04:28.960 that's been very fun to just explore we
00:04:31.520 can talk about podcasting in general but
00:04:33.919 people think it's like you just set up a
00:04:35.240 mic and record and you have all these we
00:04:36.880 have three cameras here this there's
00:04:39.000 lighting it's we have a producer here
00:04:41.960 it's a whole thing that's been a really
00:04:43.680 fun project and I think my biggest
00:04:45.800 takeaway from having a following is that
00:04:47.320 if you're not trying new things and
00:04:48.919 starting new initiatives and really
00:04:50.240 taking advantage of it you're just
00:04:51.600 falling behind yeah and when people
00:04:54.120 first start I'm I'm again making
00:04:56.039 assumptions I'm just full of assumptions
00:04:57.600 I love assuming okay great I would
00:04:59.199 assume
00:05:00.080 that when you first start in content
00:05:01.840 creation it's pretty uncomfortable and
00:05:03.280 as you get reps in and you have some
00:05:05.880 success it's a little bit more
00:05:07.360 comfortable but I like how long can you
00:05:10.039 actually stay in the comfort before
00:05:11.479 you're like itching to go do something
00:05:13.199 totally new and like okay I need to go
00:05:15.320 build a new muscle or figure out if I am
00:05:18.880 I don't know what whether it's a new
00:05:20.280 platform or just new types of brands
00:05:23.400 that you're working with whatever it is
00:05:24.840 I'm curious like how long the from where
00:05:27.600 I'm sitting and probably where most
00:05:29.039 people are who will be listening to this
00:05:32.000 content creation is endlessly
00:05:33.280 uncomfortable M but I'm curious if
00:05:35.199 that's actually true when you're doing
00:05:36.319 it all the time it is so I'll start with
00:05:38.840 kind of how I was feeling when I first
00:05:40.319 started making content which I never
00:05:42.120 said I want to set out to be a content
00:05:43.680 creator I want to be an influencer I
00:05:46.160 really was just like I'm bored we're all
00:05:48.240 making sourdough we're doing these like
00:05:50.240 weird things during Co I'm going to try
00:05:52.919 it myself and I'm going to try making
00:05:54.080 videos yeah videos became my kind of
00:05:56.280 creative Outlet in this dark time and I
00:05:59.880 then you know I was able to turn it into
00:06:02.080 a business and start these other pillars
00:06:03.880 and but still to this day I still am
00:06:05.840 corporate Natalie I still do corporate
00:06:07.599 videos I can't stray away from that and
00:06:09.360 I think do what you know if you're
00:06:11.520 sitting in front of a camera it's
00:06:12.720 recording and you have nothing to say
00:06:14.039 and you're terrified maybe either
00:06:16.080 content creation isn't for you or what
00:06:17.520 you're talking about isn't for you and
00:06:18.919 so it should feel comfortable and it
00:06:21.039 should flow out of you because it's once
00:06:22.919 you're doing this for a few years it
00:06:24.400 will be exhausting and draining and it
00:06:26.639 will not be fun anymore and so having
00:06:28.960 that Joy way of content creation from
00:06:31.599 the start is really important I want to
00:06:33.840 go down like real far down that that
00:06:36.240 track but before we do it let's let's go
00:06:38.639 back to can you take us back to what
00:06:39.960 your life was like before you were
00:06:41.919 officially a content creator oh my gosh
00:06:44.759 yes I also love the word content creator
00:06:46.639 I hate the word influencer but so thank
00:06:49.039 you for saying that but I uh before I
00:06:51.680 was working at deoe I was um traveling
00:06:54.800 across the country just living the
00:06:56.800 consultant life Minnesota yeah we
00:06:58.800 released that
00:07:00.120 um and then I co hit and I felt like
00:07:03.680 kind of purposeless I'm like where are
00:07:05.080 my hotel points where are my flight
00:07:06.560 miles like what's happening this I
00:07:08.120 thought that was the whole point of this
00:07:09.160 Consulting thing and I've always been
00:07:11.960 like the one at the dinner table who's
00:07:13.759 cracking the jokes the Midler who likes
00:07:15.879 to sit in the middle of the table and
00:07:16.879 tell all the stories like that is
00:07:18.120 totally me so life was you know life was
00:07:20.919 like all of us during Co it was
00:07:22.479 confusing it was weird it was what do I
00:07:24.599 want to do with my life and making the
00:07:27.520 videos I think what I had you mentioned
00:07:29.440 my mom earlier like I feel like I've
00:07:31.080 always just been super confident and I
00:07:32.879 like thank my mom for that for just
00:07:34.400 being like yeah honey try it go for it
00:07:36.400 like I never was afraid to to try things
00:07:40.479 and I I put my like pride aside and I
00:07:42.800 didn't it the videos were not perfect
00:07:45.000 they were not entirely funny in the
00:07:47.120 beginning you know I had to work some
00:07:48.520 Kinks out but but what I did was I
00:07:50.080 posted them and so I'm so thankful to
00:07:53.199 2020 me for being brave enough to do
00:07:55.960 that okay to have a mom that makes you
00:07:59.000 feel like you can try anything is such a
00:08:00.800 gift or just someone in your life that
00:08:02.440 makes you feel like you could try
00:08:03.599 anything did was that a I think you
00:08:06.960 maybe I'm maybe I pre know some
00:08:09.159 knowledge about promoted and demoted
00:08:10.759 words but I know that we're demoting uh
00:08:12.960 dulu yes but was this like a dulu
00:08:16.240 situation that you carried throughout
00:08:18.000 your whole life and you were just like
00:08:19.639 let's go for it Natalie let's do it who
00:08:22.000 cares like you know it's interesting on
00:08:25.319 God I don't think I'm dulu necessarily
00:08:27.800 but I think people who are dulu do way
00:08:29.319 better they're just like I am going to

00:08:34.760 my friends and I'm like I'm going to be

00:08:43.080 knew when I was making these videos I
00:08:44.440 was afraid of deoy finding out I was
00:08:46.160 afraid of getting fired of course but I
00:08:48.279 knew that Bruce was a fictional
00:08:49.920 character I was building this sort of
00:08:51.320 fictional world and I wasn't hurting
00:08:53.680 anyone or tearing anyone down
00:08:55.160 individually and so sticking true to
00:08:57.600 that allowed me to keep going with the
00:08:58.920 video and be confident in that but I
00:09:01.040 think less dulu more just like okay I'll
00:09:04.079 give this a try like I started a jewelry
00:09:05.640 company in college and I was just I
00:09:07.640 learned how to make one necklace and I'm
00:09:09.600 like okay well I'm going to sell these
00:09:11.160 for 20 bucks each and sell them on the
00:09:12.959 corner of my you know the library and
00:09:15.320 see how it goes so I'm just I've had
00:09:16.920 that like confidence and entrepreneurial
00:09:18.560 spirit I think my whole life that's cool

00:09:23.000 like oh my God I might be good at this I

00:09:33.279 these like girls and their matcha and
00:09:35.959 their affirmations and their Journal I'm

00:09:40.959 is just yoga and whatever and great
00:09:43.519 question I'm like I'm rolling out of my
00:09:45.600 bed at 7:59 before my 8 a.m. meeting
00:09:48.079 looking terrifying in my robe like messy
00:09:50.800 room trying to blur my background so my
00:09:53.040 co-workers don't see it and I think just
00:09:55.279 like bringing I I did a day in the life
00:09:56.760 that sort of flipped that trend on its
00:09:58.040 head and people really liked that so
00:10:00.560 that was one of my big first moments my
00:10:02.240 two most viral videos this is super
00:10:04.000 interesting are not related to corporate
00:10:06.040 at all and I think that's just it's like
00:10:08.120 me holding a sign up have you seen that
00:10:10.120 on like my Tik Tok page to the girl
00:10:11.880 across the street from me yes oh yeah
00:10:13.760 yes and so that's like my number one
00:10:15.360 like 14 million views video nothing

00:10:39.480 it's because everyone can relate to the
00:10:41.720 sign video not everyone works in
00:10:43.160 Corporate America but you said that if
00:10:46.240 you're the person that is terrified
00:10:48.560 speaking in front of a camera it's
00:10:50.200 probably because like maybe content
00:10:51.959 creation is not for you or you're just
00:10:52.959 not excited about what you're talking
00:10:54.680 about how and you mentioned you've
00:10:56.760 always been the person that's cracking
00:10:57.959 jokes the Middler as you say I love that
00:11:00.360 I think the funniest people and the most
00:11:01.720 witty people are also the most in tune
00:11:03.800 with emotions like very high EQ very
00:11:05.680 smart and intelligent and aware of

00:11:45.079 work from home life I was really living
00:11:46.760 that and experiencing that and so I'm
00:11:48.680 able to speak on it but if I were to try
00:11:51.880 to do like a Pilates come with me to my
00:11:55.160 pilates class you don't want to see that
00:11:56.639 that's horrible I don't know that very
00:11:58.200 I'm still working on on that so I
00:12:00.000 wouldn't want to quite share that on
00:12:01.480 publicly but thank you for saying that I
00:12:03.320 have a high EQ let's cut that as a
00:12:04.800 social clip Talon and just use
00:12:07.600 that about me it's true because to
00:12:11.320 understand the humor in the like Dynamic
00:12:14.040 multifaceted nature of humor especially
00:12:15.920 in corporate situ situations and
00:12:18.480 scenarios it's not for it's not for the
00:12:21.199 fate of heart but it's also not for the
00:12:22.519 people that aren't watching and
00:12:24.720 listening and actually understanding
00:12:26.480 what's happening um and the flip side of
00:12:28.480 that which I is an interesting it's
00:12:30.000 really hard when you're starting making
00:12:31.240 content is realizing that not everyone's
00:12:32.600 going to love you yeah and that's that's
00:12:35.040 totally fine having a cult small
00:12:37.160 following is better than having totally
00:12:39.680 you know doing something you don't love
00:12:41.320 and trying to be different than the
00:12:43.360 person you are and so it's okay if you
00:12:45.480 don't like corporate Natalie that's
00:12:47.240 totally fair there's a million other
00:12:48.519 creators you can follow and just having
00:12:50.320 to accept that as a person is very hard
00:12:52.680 but it it helps and it's liberating in a
00:12:54.639 way okay so you're at deoy you start
00:12:57.199 posting because you're working from home
00:12:59.000 isolated like everyone else is and you
00:13:00.600 find the humor in it which is cool at
00:13:02.600 what point did you say okay if I got
00:13:06.040 intentional about this and like did you
00:13:08.279 have a business plan how did you how
00:13:11.560 many years out are we talking that you
00:13:12.839 plan yeah in 10 years I'll be at the
00:13:15.279 Oscars no how did you at what point did
00:13:18.079 you pivot from okay this is fun and I am
00:13:20.880 getting joy and this is like relief from
00:13:22.519 a pretty dark time to wait a second I
00:13:25.079 can make a business out of this and like
00:13:26.480 how do you view your business in general
00:13:28.160 I guess questions so you quickly realize
00:13:31.760 when you start making content and
00:13:33.839 growing a following that Brands reach
00:13:35.360 out very early in the process I think I
00:13:37.720 had 10,000 followers on Tik Tok and
00:13:39.720 twisted T reached out to me to do a
00:13:42.040 brand deal and they paid me $500 and I
00:13:44.040 was like I that was my first and I was
00:13:45.519 like I am rich like this is unbelievable
00:13:48.000 I posted it on my Instagram for free
00:13:50.519 because I was like so proud of the video
00:13:51.920 and wanted everyone to see that I did a
00:13:53.079 brand deal which now I know you can
00:13:54.480 actually charge for that that's kind of
00:13:55.680 a different thing but I was just I I
00:13:58.199 learned that like these brands are
00:13:59.440 reaching out to these kind of micro
00:14:00.600 creators and I was like okay there's
00:14:01.880 something in this I viewed the content
00:14:03.959 creation World quite judgmentally like I
00:14:06.519 viewed people like you do silly little
00:14:08.279 dances on Tik Tok that's not a real job
00:14:10.360 I have a real job I'm working at deoe
00:14:12.480 that's not the case at all these people
00:14:14.240 are doing very well-build very
00:14:15.839 successful businesses and to judge it is
00:14:18.560 only hurting me more so I kind of leaned
00:14:21.279 in and I took my my true corporate
00:14:23.360 Natalie self coming from a corporate
00:14:25.000 space building these decks and talking
00:14:27.240 and meetings and I I took that and
00:14:28.880 applied it to the content creation space
00:14:31.360 and I built a Media Kit which is
00:14:33.320 something that you send to brands that
00:14:34.959 has like your rates and your story and
00:14:37.240 your engagement your following and I
00:14:39.199 built an awesome deck because oh great I
00:14:41.160 use PowerPoint every day at deoy I'm
00:14:42.759 great at this and I sent that around and
00:14:45.000 that really helped build the brand I
00:14:46.519 started like selling myself on calls and
00:14:49.000 setting my rates and talking to my
00:14:50.720 Creator friends and trying to just learn
00:14:53.079 by doing and it just I soon realized I'm
00:14:56.360 like I can make money on this this is
00:14:57.880 crazy like I would be stupid to not at
00:14:59.880 least try it how were you choosing the
00:15:01.759 brands that you proactively were
00:15:03.160 reaching out to so I in the beginning
00:15:05.079 didn't do any Outreach just because I
00:15:06.880 was I had the full-time job and I didn't
00:15:09.240 really have time to do the pitching how
00:15:11.079 did I choose the brands to work with
00:15:12.720 however I would take anything in the
00:15:14.639 beginning I was so honored that they
00:15:16.360 wanted to work with me that I was like
00:15:17.720 okay I'm promoting this and I would
00:15:20.040 never be the ad of like promoting the
00:15:21.800 product here I would try to organically
00:15:23.600 weave it in but I think in growing you
00:15:26.079 know a following and building trust with
00:15:27.839 my followers I'm now like way more
00:15:30.920 selective and have like a full audit
00:15:32.720 process for who I work with and why I
00:15:34.399 work with them and what's their mission
00:15:35.880 and I'm you know proud to say that I've
00:15:38.720 narrowed down my kind of brand wh
00:15:40.680 mentality I initially had how much do
00:15:43.600 you feel like you can actually control
00:15:46.160 the content that you're creating even
00:15:47.720 when you are working with a brand verse
00:15:50.040 just having to like inevitably it's
00:15:52.839 obvious obviously going to feel a little
00:15:54.319 bit more inauthentic is not the right
00:15:57.279 word but it's an scripted it's an ad
00:16:00.440 maybe a lot of people that would be
00:16:02.399 considering getting into this are doing
00:16:04.040 it actually I shouldn't even say the
00:16:05.880 wrong reason who cares if you're getting
00:16:07.160 into it because you want to make money
00:16:08.279 but you should be getting into it
00:16:09.560 because you're you want to create good
00:16:11.120 content and not necessarily be an
00:16:13.279 influencer yes you have a perspective on
00:16:15.360 that yes be a Creator before you become
00:16:18.800 an influencer you need to create content
00:16:21.360 for you you need to create content for
00:16:23.079 your audience you need to build that
00:16:24.399 kind of brand Equity before you start
00:16:26.399 selling people and so if you go into it
00:16:28.279 saying want to be an influencer that's a
00:16:30.680 horrible way to approach it like who are
00:16:32.600 you influencing you have zero followers
00:16:34.279 that doesn't make sense but if you go
00:16:35.959 and wanting to be a Creator and create
00:16:37.600 content and kind of give that content to
00:16:39.440 your community that's a great approach
00:16:42.040 and then if the brand deals don't come
00:16:43.759 and it's a little slower there that's
00:16:45.199 okay because you're in this kind of just
00:16:46.680 create mindset you me you asked how are
00:16:50.040 the brands a little more like
00:16:51.040 prescriptive with what you say I think
00:16:53.120 from the beginning I've always been very
00:16:54.480 intentional on I want it to be humor
00:16:56.920 first and I would would see the ads of
00:16:59.399 holding the product and it's like I I
00:17:01.560 use this because it does XYZ for me and
00:17:03.839 I hated that yeah and so I tried from
00:17:05.839 the very beginning to be very creative
00:17:08.520 about how I approach ads it's like the
00:17:10.079 cooworker who's never at their desk and
00:17:12.359 it was my first Dell ad and I'm just
00:17:14.199 holding my Dell Latitude 9440 running
00:17:16.799 around the grocery store doing all these
00:17:18.880 things and I was like okay so there are
00:17:21.599 creative ways where I can take a
00:17:22.799 creative brief and kind of make it my
00:17:24.799 own and I think it depends on the brand
00:17:26.679 there are a lot of brands that have Reg
