A monkey monkey monkey. I'm so fun. The monkey monkey monkey monkey song is done.
SPEAKER_04Also, there's elephant. I don't see why we have to go to the store because there's no cat litter. Shouldn't the cat go get it? It's her stinky poop.
SPEAKER_00I don't think the cat likes driving in the car.
SPEAKER_04A cat doesn't like anything. The cat just whines and poops and sleeps and meows and stinks and poops and mouths and meows and whines and stinks, and she poops and she stinks more, and she pleeps and plops and poops and stinks because she's a stinky cat and she doesn't like anything.
SPEAKER_00There's other stuff we have to get too. See this? This is our shopping list.
SPEAKER_04What's a shopping list? Why do you always use such big words, man? You've really got to know your audience, elephant.
SPEAKER_00Neither shopping nor list is a big word. A shopping list is a list of items we need to buy from the store. We have them written down so we won't forget any.
SPEAKER_04Oh, that's so exciting! What's on the list? What's on the list? Why won't you tell me?
SPEAKER_00Um, let's see. The list has cat litter, carrots, bananas, and batteries.
SPEAKER_04Oh! Does the list have chocolate?
SPEAKER_00Chocolate. Chocolate. Chocolate. Chocolate. No monkey. There's no chocolate on the list.
SPEAKER_04Ah, nuts.
SPEAKER_00Also, no nuts. But we do have ten dollars to spend. Maybe if we have money left over, we can buy chocolate.
SPEAKER_04Woohoo! Yes! I can't wait to go to the store. Going to the store. Going to the store.
SPEAKER_03Going to the store with monkey. Going to the store. Going to the store. Going to the store with monkey. I'm going. Are you going? I'm going. Are you going? I'm going. Are you going? I'm going. Are you going? Going to the store. Going to the store. Going to the store with monkey. Going to the store. Going to the store. Going to the store with monkey. I'm going. Are you going? I'm going. Are you going? I'm going. Are you going? I'm going.
SPEAKER_04Are you going?
SPEAKER_03I'm going. Are you going? I'm going. Going to the store. Going to the store. Going to the store with monkey.
SPEAKER_00Alright, we're at the grocery store.
SPEAKER_04Let's get one of those shopping carts that looks like a race car.
SPEAKER_00Hmm. Race car? After that crazy race we just had? No, thank you. How about we choose the shopping cart that looks like a police car? I love police cars.
SPEAKER_04No way, man! We're doing the race car shopping cart, and I will never change my mind ever.
SPEAKER_00Well I want the police car.
SPEAKER_04I want the race car.
SPEAKER_00Police car race car Okay, okay. This argument isn't getting us anywhere. I have an idea. Why don't we split up? Go on. You take the race car shopping cart. I'll take the police car shopping cart, and we will split the shopping list in half.
SPEAKER_04Go on.
SPEAKER_00I will find the items that start with C, cat litter and carrots. You find the items that start with B. Bananas and batteries. Go on. Uh that's kind of it. Go find your stuff.
SPEAKER_04On it! Woohoo!
SPEAKER_00You can do this, monkey. I don't think you can do this.
SPEAKER_04Okay, shopping! Where's my list? Can't find it, but that's okay. I remember that I was supposed to get stuff that starts with the letter P. So here's pretzels and peanuts and paper cups. Need some ice cream. Some pretzels. Some monkey O's. Ooh, rice. Milk? Rice milk. Arugula?
SPEAKER_02Hmm.
SPEAKER_04Well, I won't know if I hate it unless I buy it and try it. Oh, there's so much stuff I want. Where's chocolate?
SPEAKER_01Chocolate. Chocolate. Chocolate. Chocolate.
SPEAKER_04Ooh, here's pretzels. And funny gummies. Blueberry muffins. Ooh, bubble bath solution that smells like bubble bath solution. Dog treats! I should get these in case we get a dog. I wonder if they make anti-cat treats. Pretzels? Oh, I'm doing such a good job. I wonder how elephants are doing.
SPEAKER_00Okay. I have the cat litter and carrots. Time to go find monkey.
SPEAKER_04Ooh, I just love when they have a book section in the grocery store. I want this one and this one and this one and that one and this one and that one and this one. Oh, I wonder what this one's about.
SPEAKER_03And now a story. Captain Avarice jumped from his pirate ship onto the smaller ship he had just captured and sang his favorite song. I'm a greedy pirate, and I never have enough. So open up the treasure chest and give me all your stuff. The frightened passengers gave Captain Avarice and his large crew of pirates all their treasure. There were boxes and crates and barrels of gold and jewels. Well done, you scurvy sea dogs, he told his pirate crew. We plundered another ship. We got more treasure! More treasure! More treasure! More Nobody? He tried to start a chant with more treasure, but nobody in the crew joined him. Come on! Why do you all look so glum? We've got so much treasure! His first mate spoke up. Um, sir, it's just that we have so much treasure already. It's not very exciting getting more. Plus, some of the guys are getting kind of tired of being so mean and stealing from everyone. We've been collecting treasure for over a year now. I mean, look around. He gestured to the ship. Seemingly every inch of the ship was covered in treasure. The sunlight made the golden ship shine bright. From far away it looked like the whole ship was made out of gold. Maybe we don't need any more treasure, continued the first mate. I don't need any more I don't need more. I want more and I will have more, said Captain Avaris. Yo ho, Hardy Harr, Fadl D D, and Poo-De Poo. Um Poo Dee Poo, sir, the first mate said. Yes, Poo Dee Pooh! Don't you dare question my pirate gibberish, you land lubin weasel. Of course, sir, replied the first mate. I am a weasel. Set sail, bellowed Captain Avaris. Be on the lookout for ships! The next one we see, we're taking all their treasure. The pirate crew grumbled as they raised the sails on their huge, heavy pirate ship. The wind caught the sails, and slowly, very slowly, they sailed away from the ship they had just plundered. Faster shouted the greedy pirate captain. We need to find more treasure. Sir, said the first mate, the ship can't go any faster because there's too much treasure on it. The greedy pirate captain ignored him. Before long they came across another ship that was not moving because it had a broken sail. Ahoy shouted Captain Avaris to the distressed ship as they pulled up alongside it. I can see that you are stranded. We will help you. The crowd aboard the stranded ship cheered, but then the captain laughed. I'm a greedy pirate, and I never have enough. So open up your treasure chest and give me all your stuff. The pirate crew once again loaded boxes and crates of gold and jewels onto their ship. Sir, said the first mate, our ship is carrying too much weight. It's sitting lower in the water. Perhaps we've loaded on enough treasure. Captain Avaris laughed. Enough! Never keep loading it on! I want more, more, more! Get the treasure aboard. As the unhappy pirates continued to load treasure, the ship started to noticeably dip down into the water, inch by inch. Captain, said the first mate, the ship is going to sink if we don't remove some of this treasure now. Never roared Captain Avarice. The treasure stays and keep loading it. Many of the pirates murmured and yelled and booed in response. They were not happy. Captain, replied the first mate, no one wants to get on that ship with you. It's sinking because you are too greedy. It's just too heavy because of all your blobbery butts, the captain yelled to the crew. You are all banished from my ship. All I need is my treasure. You are all worthless sea dogs anyway. The pirate crew was now very angry. They had been angry for a long time at how greedy Captain Avarice was and how mean he was to keep stealing from other people. And now he was being so greedy that he didn't even care that his ship was sinking. They decided to take action and make things right. The first mate cleared his throat. Captain, we hereby place you under pirate arrest, or whatever you call it. The pirates tied up Captain Avarice. They then returned all the stolen treasure to the passengers of the stranded ship and removed enough stuff to keep the big ship from sinking. They helped fix the sails of the stranded ship so that it could finally return home. And they decided to be opposite pirates, or opirates, as they call themselves, where they would sail around, find other ships, and give them treasure. Unfortunately, the term opopirates didn't stick, but what did stick was the lesson that greed can sink your ship.
SPEAKER_00Are you reading a book?
SPEAKER_04No, I'm doing the thing that I'm supposed to be doing.
SPEAKER_00I see your shopping cart is completely full.
SPEAKER_02I know, right?
SPEAKER_04Didn't I do well?
SPEAKER_00Not really. None of this stuff was on your list.
SPEAKER_04Oh, but it's okay, because I wanted it all.
SPEAKER_00You can't just get everything you want, Monk.
SPEAKER_04Why not? I did.
SPEAKER_00Well, it's important to get only the things you really need and not be wasteful. For example, no one needs four bags of jumbo giant pretzels.
SPEAKER_04I have no idea how those got into my shopping cart.
SPEAKER_00Also, I asked you to get bananas and batteries. That was your responsibility. It looks like you got everything else in the store except bananas and batteries.
SPEAKER_04I uh you're right. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_00And also, we don't have enough money for all of this. We have ten dollars. The cat litter costs three dollars and the carrots cost two dollars.
SPEAKER_04So how much money do we have left?
SPEAKER_00You'll just have to do the math.
SPEAKER_04What's math?
SPEAKER_00Math is how we learn to work with numbers. We have ten dollars. Hold up all ten of your fingers. Now, take away three for the cat litter. Then take away two more for the carrots. That leaves us with how many?
SPEAKER_04I don't have any fingers.
SPEAKER_00Five, monk. I have five dollars left.
SPEAKER_04That doesn't sound like very much.
SPEAKER_00Looks like it's enough for bananas and batteries. Here are the bananas, which are two dollars. And over here are batteries, which are also two dollars. If we have five fingers and take two away and then take away two again, we're left with one dollar.
SPEAKER_04We only have one dollar left? That really doesn't sound like much. Uh okay. I'll put all the stuff back. Um, ooh, that's a lot actually. Um excuse me. Hey worker! Excuse me!
SPEAKER_03Worker! Hey, customer monkey dude. What's up? Can you put all the stuff back? What? Seriously? You're not buying any of this? Nope. I am working on not being greedy. Oh, come on! This is gonna take forever.
SPEAKER_04It definitely will. Okay, let's go, Ellie.
SPEAKER_00You know, monk. One dollar is just enough for a bar of chocolate. Chocolate. Chocolate.
SPEAKER_01Chocolate. Chocolate.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I still get chocolate. Oh yeah! Oh yeah, oh yeah! Hey worker, stay with me! Oh yeah! Oh yeah! Oh yeah! Oh yeah! Oh yeah!
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah! Oh yeah! I don't like my job.
SPEAKER_04What a fun trip to the store! Thanks for coming with me. Next time, I'm only gonna get the things that are on my shopping list, and I'm not just gonna get everything I want. Hmm. Oh, we learned about math! That was cool. I tried counting on my fingers, but turns out I don't have fingers because I'm a stuffed monkey. Hmm. Ooh, there was also that cool book about pirates! I really wish I'd bought that book. That was cool. We had fun with you. Let's do it again. We'll find more fun things to do. Oh yeah. Oh, it's not done. Uh monkey, monkey, monkey, monkey, monkey, monkey, monkey, monkey, monkey, monkey.
SPEAKER_03I'm a silly pirate, and I really love to dance. So play some happy music now before I poo my pants.
