Let's Slow It Down - Do You Even Know Yourself Anymore? Mini Series Ep 8

Shannon Danielle Episode 99

What if you didn’t have to rush to figure out who you are becoming?

In this final episode of the Do You Even Know Yourself Anymore? series - and our 99th episode together - I share a real-life reminder that sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is simply pause. Through two very different dining experiences while traveling, I realized how often we move too fast - even through our own growth - and how transformational it can be when we ask for what we need and allow ourselves to slow down.

We also pull a card from the Magic of What If deck and reflect on what it means to honor the version of you that’s already here… instead of rushing toward who you think you’re supposed to become.

Reflection Questions:

  • Where in your life are you moving too fast?
  • What would it feel like to slow one area of your life down—on purpose?
  • Where might you be holding back from asking for what you need?
  • Who are you right now, and how might you enjoy her more fully?

Speaker 1:

Welcome back to the Pure Possibilities podcast and episode 99 and the final episode of our Do you Even Know Yourself Anymore? Miniseries. Let's start with taking a breath, a real one, hand to heart. Allow your shoulders to drop, no rush, just allow yourself to arrive right here, right now, if it feels comfortable for you, close your eyes and take a deep breath in and slowly exhale. Take another deep breath in and slowly exhale. This episode is an invitation to pause, to reflect, to integrate and maybe most importantly, to enjoy the version of you that's here right now, in this moment.

Speaker 1:

I just returned from a two-week trip. I went to Alabama to visit my son and then up to New York to visit a girlfriend of mine for her 50th birthday, and I had the most magical, magnificent two weeks. I've spent so much time trying to think about what were my favorite moments. It's been really tough. I just had so much fun so much fun I was posting it on my social media all the days of things that we were doing and the fun that we were having. And a friend of mine said you truly know how to make every moment count and fill your heart with joy, and isn't that what we're here for? That is what we're here for and over the last eight episodes we have walked together through this tender terrain of identity change, rediscovery, and we've asked some pretty deep questions. And we're not rushing towards finding answers, but practicing curiosity, with compassion and less judgment. And you might have figured out who you are right now, in this moment, and maybe you haven't, and that's okay. You are not behind, you're not doing anything wrong. We are in motion and this series wasn't ever about rushing into that new version of you. It was about creating space to notice what's shifting, to notice where you were, where you are now and always, always being honest with yourself. But sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is pause, and that pause isn't always to gain clarity, but for awareness. The word conscious awareness has come up for me a lot throughout this series. We want to give our body, mind and soul time to catch up with who we're becoming.

Speaker 1:

Before we get into today's episode, I actually want to flip things around a little bit and we're going to do a magic of what if? Card pull right here in the beginning, I'm going to pull from the magic of what if card deck volume two, available on my website, purepossibilitiespodcastcom. Okay, all right, let's see where we're going to go with today's episode. What if I embrace change as an opportunity for growth and expansion? That's really funny. Well, that's not funny. It's the universe doing its thing.

Speaker 1:

Because I have some more things changing in my life and I've been kind of moving through that over this last week, and change is the one thing that we can count on all the time. And, as we've been navigating through this journey over the last eight weeks and, honestly, through the entire year and a half, or more than year and a half, that the show has been on, through the entire year and a half or more than year and a half that the show has been on, it really is focused on change and how do we navigate, how do we navigate the ups and downs of our day, when things shift in our life? And it really does come down to that conscious awareness, that conscious awareness, curiosity and less judgment. All right, so, because I was on an amazing trip, the idea of slowing down came into clear focus for me recently. While I was traveling, I had dinner with my son and his girlfriend and it was one of the last nights that I was going to be there and it was really special. I obviously don't get to see him very often since he moved and he was not feeling well the entire time that I was there, so that was a little bit of a bummer. But we went out and we had a meal and it felt really rushed. The server came quickly, she took all of our orders really fast and everything was happening at once and before I felt like I could settle into the moment, it was over and I didn't ask to slow it down, not because I couldn't, but because in that moment I didn't realize that was what I needed until the time had passed so fast forward.

Speaker 1:

A few nights later I'm in New York and with my friend and we went out to one of our absolutely favorite restaurants. It's a place that we visit every time I'm in town and the manager recognized us and was so kind and she came and she quickly took our appetizer orders, our drink orders, entrees, all the things, and which was great and amazing, and also it was fast. And that time I was like, okay, let's pause for a minute. And so I was talking with my friend and I was like this is going really fast. I want us to really enjoy this moment and to truly be here, and so we asked the manager if we could kind of slow things down and she was like oh my gosh, no problem, just let me know when you're ready. And that shifted the entire energy of our experience. We slowed down, we savored everything that we were eating, we we enjoyed the space and the moment, and we ended up being there for about two and a half hours.

Speaker 1:

And so, reflecting on that experience, it also reminded me like we can ask for what we need. We don't have to rush through our lives, our meals, our growth, our healing. We get to participate in the pace and we can slow it down when we want to. We get to choose presence. You know there's going to be times where things are just, you know, happening and going quickly and going quickly, but when you notice that it's going too fast, remember that this is your life and you get to choose the pace. You get to decide how fast things are going to go. If you feel like you need to pause, then pause. That is absolutely available to you anytime, anytime you want.

Speaker 1:

And so, with this, I want to say if this entire series has brought something up in you, maybe it's grief or uncertainty, or even joy I hope you give yourself the gift of space to actually feel it. You don't need to race to the finish line to get clarity on exactly where you're going and exactly who you've been, and all the things you don't need to push through, the things you don't need to push through the pause. You don't need to become someone new right now. You don't need to step into that new identity in this moment. Maybe your only job right now is to notice the you that's already here right now. Let them breathe, let them speak, let them be so.

Speaker 1:

As we bring our mini series to a close, I want to leave you with a few reflection questions. Where in your life are you moving too fast? Where might you be holding back from asking for what you truly need? What would it feel like to slow down on purpose, with intention? What might you discover if you allowed yourself a little more space? Honor the pause, honor the pace. You don't have to know yourself fully in order to love who you are right now. You can be in the pace. You don't have to know yourself fully in order to love who you are right now. You can be in the pause, you can be in the inquiry, you can be in the middle and still be whole, still be beautiful, still be you.

Speaker 1:

So next week we are celebrating 100 episodes together. It's so funny because I had told myself a lot of people stop after like seven episodes and I had promised myself I would go at least 50. And here we are approaching 100 episodes. It's going to be a celebration of the journey, the evolution and the truth that continues to unfold when you keep showing up for yourself with love, presence and possibility. But for today, let's just slow it down. Let this moment be enough, let this version of you be enough and let the space you create today remind you of who you've already become. Thank you for walking through this series with me, thank you for your courage, thank you for your presence, thank you for being you and continually showing up for yourself. I will be back next week, up for yourself. I will be back next week and until then, be gentle, be curious, be kind. No-transcript.
