It is no secret that international markets have been crazy the last few days with the enactment of Trump's reciprocal tariffs. Now, what's interesting is Mexico for now got out of those reciprocal tariffs due to some treaties they have with the United States and Canada. And in this video we're gonna be talking about what the economic outlook looks like for Mexico because a lot of you are interested in relocating to Mexico. We can help you with that. By the way, and one of the things that we really like to talk about on this channel isn't just, okay, well yeah, sure you can have a higher quality of life and lower cost of living, but what are the economic opportunities going on all over the world? And Mexico is a standout with the economic trends that we have researched. My name is Amanda Abe. Welcome to Entrepreneur Expat. On this channel we talk all about doing international business. Living in Mexico, relocating to other countries, digital nomadism and so much more. So if that's something that you are interested in, make sure to subscribe and hit the notification bell so you don't make a single video that we have coming out on this channel.'cause we're going all in on this channel. Justin and I have decided this is probably gonna be one of our main projects. Moving forward because so many of you have asked for help, not just in starting businesses, but also finding real estate in Mexico. The visa process in Mexico, relocating to Mexico, and we're like, you know what? The people need help, so let's help them. And in this video, like I said, one of the things that we really like to look at as entrepreneurs is we like to look at the economic opportunities. That exists in other countries because let's be real, the United States is in flux right now. Economically. People are saying there's massive chances for a recession, and it's not even just that. It's just, you know, it's gotten difficult to do business in the United States also because of overregulation and overtaxing. So one of the things that entrepreneur expats like to look at is what opportunities there might be. In other countries to start businesses, invest in businesses, um, or perhaps just leave and move to a country where the quality of life is going to be better because the economic trends are on the way up. So let's talk about Mexico specifically because we did a deep dive on this information for you guys because it, it was just so crazy. What is going on here? I tried to write one social media post about it and it kept cutting me off because it was too long. So I was like, you know what? Probably deserves a video to talk about just the massive amount of economic opportunity in Mexico, because we've said it before and we've said it again. Mexico has. All the potential to become an economic superpower. So let's get into all the reasons why. Now a quick reminder before we jump into this very extensive list as to why Mexico is on the way up economically. If you are interested in relocation, we can now help you. We've started doing relocation tours here in Guadalajara. We've also partnered with real estate agents, lawyers, accountants, you name it all over the country, to help make your transition as easy as possible. So you can now get on our calendars and book a. Move to Mexico consultation below. We're going to assess what your specific needs are, and from there we're gonna make a plan to move forward. In addition to that, if you are like, Hey, I just wanna get a taste of this and download our moving to Mexico guide below because it's 100% free, okay, let's, uh, get into this very extensive, crazy list as to why Mexico. Might be one of the next economic superpowers, and I'm talking like a few decades down the road. Uh, although there's a lot of really great stuff going on now, um, you know, it's not gonna beat out like China or India or Russia right now. However, normally the time to get into a country is when it's starting to. Launch like this, once it's already launched, it's too late. Uh,'cause you know what goes up must come down, which is essentially what's happening in the west right now. And Mexico's kind of on the reverse of, of that cycle. So let's get into all the different business and investment opportunities that are available in Mexico. So number one, proximity to the United States. So for those of you obviously who have businesses where you have to be connected to the United States, then obviously that's a lot easier for you. In our case, you know, our consulting businesses have always been online. However, we do have mostly American and Canadian clients over the years, so the time zones definitely made it a whole lot easier. Mexico is also the number one trading partner of the United States. It did$614 billion in trade. In 2022, they do have trade agreements with the United States, which is kind of what got them out of the liberation day tariffs, at least for now. Uh, but it seems like Mexico is at least negotiating in some form because they're not stupid. They like money. Mexico likes to do business. Uh, they are reduced tariffs, like I said, and ease investment between regions. Um, the manufacturing exports to the US are set to go from 455 billion to 609 billion by 2030, and as I mentioned, similar time zones. Now the other thing that's interesting about Mexico, and we were recently doing a relocation tour, shout out to Evan and his mom, and he noticed something that a lot of people notice when they come to Mexico, which is that it seems that the government. Is very pro-business and makes it easy for Mexicans to work. We have a lot of Mexican friends who will say the exact same thing. Um, I was just talking to my makeup teacher the other day, makeup and hair and all that stuff, and she's had several different businesses and her husband worked in banking for decades and they're like, yeah, they just let you work in Mexico. Like they let you make money. There isn't like a ton of overregulation. And the government supports it. So here are some of the ways in which they do that. So there's per preferential loans, uh, with competitive rates for certain companies, which is actually what she was telling me. There's preferential long-term loan rates for small and medium sized companies. Listen to this. Interest rate, 3.5%, uh, annual rate. Uh, there's dedicated loans for the acquisition of new technologies and machinery. My makeup teacher actually opened up this beauty school recently and she was telling me how, when she was buying beauty schools in the beginning, um, and even just a few years ago, with all the craziness that was going on with the pandemic, she was able to get very low cost loans from the government in order to stay in business, and she's been able to acquire low cost loans. Um, by the government to open a bunch of businesses. And then the other thing is, um, there's subsidies and loans that include Mexican companies in international supply chains. Um, and like I said, it, it seems that the government here, and most people who've come here will say that they notice how quickly Mexicans open up businesses. It's like Mexicans see a problem, open up a business. Get paid and it's fast how they're able to do it. And now we have more understanding through our research and also some of our contacts here in Mexico, is that the government actually supports it in a lot of different ways. So now let's get into the growth markets, right? There are a lot of startups in Mexico, um, Monterey and Guadalajara. I think they're kind of competing, trying to be the Silicon Valley of Mexico right now. But we're in Guadalajara and we can tell you there's a ton of tech companies here and more every single day. Um, and they're bringing in people from other countries to work in those tech companies here in Guadalajara. So as of right now, there's about 2000 active startups. Out of Mexico, there is a growing FinTech sector. FinTech, um, has financial technologies. So for example, because I used to be a financial writer and I used to write about the fintechs in the United States, this was 10, 15 years ago. Now we're starting to see that rise in Mexico. So for example, you're starting to see, um, FinTech companies that are making it easy for people to invest. That would be one way of doing it where you're starting to see online only bank accounts with very high interest rates. Justin and I were actually on a call last week with one of our contacts here in Mexico. He actually used to run, um, like marketing, uh, groups, right, like focus groups here in Guadalajara for several companies. And he used to do consulting on those things for major companies. Who were looking to break into Latin America, they would come to Guadalajara because Guadalajara apparently was a good enough test for the rest of Latin America. He's super into finances and investing in all those things. He did a call last week and he was going through all the different lists of all the different FinTech companies that are now available here in Mexico. So that's pretty cool. There's a booming real estate market in Mexico. A lot of you already know, know that particularly in tourist destinations. And industrial zones. We recently had one of our real estate experts, Shasta Townsend, come on to talk about what she's seeing in her area of bu, Vata and Busia. And we can tell you that here in Guadalajara, we're starting to think there might be some investment opportunities available.'cause we're starting to see a lot of properties go up for sale, uh, in our area. Not normally. That means it's bad for sellers, but it could be very good for you. The investor who is looking to buy something in Guadalajara, and some of these properties aren't just a house, it's also like a house and apartment. So we're starting to notice that just in our neighborhood could be a really good opportunity for you. If you're interested in that, please contact us because, uh, we've got real estate people here who can help you. Um, there's a lot of growth in technology and digital services, and this is interesting. We've talked about this a lot before. This is usually a very good indicator of a prospering economy and a and a. Country that's growing. Mexico has one of the fastest growing middle classes in the entire world, and what's happening is that they're seeing an increase in middle class and professional class, and then that's giving a lot more purchasing power to Mexicans. And that is an opportunity for somebody with businesses who want to sell to Mexicans because a part of what's going on right now. Is a lot of people in business who mostly cater to, you know, Americans, Canadians, Western Europeans, they're seeing what's going on in that part of the world and they're like, dang, I need to go start diversifying to countries where people are actually moving up, not down, and they're actually increasing their purchasing power. So that's a very interesting note. Let's talk about, uh, investment. That is going on in Mexico because you're seeing investment from both the government and you're still also seeing a lot of foreign investment coming in into Mexico. So this is interesting. A lot of you have brought this up in the comments, and if you're already here in Mexico, you've been seeing it with your own two eyes. The government has done$44 billion. In investment in infrastructure. By this year, 2025, we're already starting to see a lot of this. Tulum opened up an airport that is now functioning. We have a, in the Yucatan area, and in addition to that, we have the, I believe it's called the SE in in, uh, Spanish, uh, CIIT, but basically that's basically a train. Uh, and port system that's gonna go from the east coast of Mexico all the way to the West Coast. And the idea is that it's going to be competing with the Panama Canal. Now, they won't say that. They'll say stuff along the lines of like, we're just gonna help the Panama Canal because they're backed up, so now they can come to Mexico. But what do you think that means for Mexico? And a couple years ago, Justin and I were on a cruise. This was before we really started taking this channel. Seriously. Uh, I'd been in Mexico maybe six months, right? I was in the process of my residency process and we had to go back to the US for a business conference and we were chatting with a woman who is a real estate investor. She was originally from Ecuador, uh, but she was spending a lot of time in the United States doing real estate investment and she's like, I've got my eye on Mexico. And we're like, really? Why? She goes, because they actually have completed a lot of the infrastructure projects. In Mexico. Now sometimes those of us who are from Latin America, she's from Ecuador. Um, my family's Cuban. We have a lot of doubt in our government being able to do those kinds of projects. So she's like, I didn't believe it until I saw it. I didn't think they were actually gonna pull it off, but they did it. And then me, as a real estate investor, that makes me very interested. In Mexico, there's also energy sector investments to the tune of$24 billion. There's water projects, um, with$20 billion investments in 2025. There is public housing construction of 1 million homes. Those are going to be reserved for Mexicans. One of our real estate contacts here in Jalisco was telling us about that project because she is connected. Uh, to the person in the state of HA school who is responsible for that. So they are going to be doing a lot more affordable housing for Mexicans, and there is a goal of 1 million homes that they are going to be building. Um, there's been transportation improvements, airports, maritime ports, railways. We've even seen it in the bus systems here in Guadalajara. A lot of our friends have been telling us that even the bus systems here have been starting to get fixed. So that's usually a good sign as well that a country is moving on its way up, uh, economically at least. And then there's 12 designated investment zones with special incentives. If you guys want us to do a video on that, we will absolutely do it. The other thing that's interesting about Mexico is that there's very competitive business advantages. So let's say that you, American or Canadian, want to come to Mexico and maybe you wanna buy a business. Because somebody's selling a business or you want to invest in a business, which by the way is a way to get residency here in Mexico, is to invest in a business. What's interesting about Mexico is they have certain competitive advantages in comparison to what you see going on right now in the us, Canada, and Europe. So one of those obviously is significant lower wages in comparison. So it's not gonna cost you. As much money in labor to get stuff done. Anybody who's tried to build anything in Mexico knows that, uh, um, you know, labor's not too expensive here. The other thing that's interesting about Mexico, and this is actually the opposite of what's going on in US, Canada and Europe right now, is that it has a very young and growing workforce. The median age in Mexico is actually 29 years. Old. So we've got a big workforce to work with. I've, we've talked about this before with a lot of our contacts, but we were like, Mexico has like natural resources and it also has human resources to find both of those in one country. It's like hitting a jackpot, you know, assuming nobody screws anything out. But yeah, there's a young growing workforce. 45% of the population is younger than 25 years old, so that means there's gonna be new generations. Coming into the workforce, again, complete opposite of what's going on in us, Canada and Europe, where people basically stopped having babies. So that's an issue that they are going to be dealing with later. Um, there's also a lot of government programs available to upscale the citizens for a more tech type future. Uh, the information technology market here surpassed 2 billion in 2022. We actually have lots of friends. Who, um, do it for companies here in Mexico for multinational companies and they're doing quite well. And also an advantage in comparison to the US, Canada, and, well, maybe not Europe. Europe can play compete in this department, but the US and Canada definitely can't, which is that in Mexico you have a bilingual talent pool In a lot of the urban areas, in most urban areas, you will find people who speak both Spanish. And English. And uh, it's not a secret that eventually one day the fact that Americans don't know other languages was going to come back and bite them in the butt. I don't think we're gonna start seeing that happen. Uh, let's talk about market access. I told you all this was gonna be a long one. Let's talk about market access. Let's say you wanna do a business here in Mexico, well then you can access. US and Canadian markets still. Let's see what happens. Uh, with all the craziness going on in the US and Canada right now, um, there's also free trade agreements with over 50 countries. Mexico has a saying that is, you know, friends with everyone, so it tries to do business with just about everyone. There's also a growing domestic market of about 126. Million consumers. So again, why are we seeing that? Because we're seeing the next point, which is there's an increased purchasing power in Mexican consumers. So in the United States, everything's getting more expensive there. The wages aren't going up, they're not making money, they're not having babies. Like, do you see where I'm going with all of this? It's like all the trends for a functioning economy in the United and. Society in the United States are going like this and in, in Canada and Western Europe as well, and in Mexico, they're going up. Right. So that's an interesting thing to note. Mexico's not the only country, but obviously we're here, so we. See it with our own two eyes. What's going on here? So, uh, through Mexico you have a gateway to Latin American markets. As I mentioned, one of our friends and colleagues here, and also our meditation teacher actually used to do focus groups here in Guadalajara when he did marketing consulting for huge corporations that were looking to break into the Latin American. Market. And then if you're in the exporting business, which uh, if you're watching me from Miami, I know a lot of you are in the export import business, you can export, you have lots of opportunities in multiple regions here in Mexico, should you want to expand that. And then of course, um, we'll get to the final point here, which is streamlined business operations. So you have reduced application times for business permits. I swear to you, I have seen Mexicans get an idea for a business and a month later their doors are open. They've got the place rented. They're selling, they've got business coming into the door, especially for more traditional businesses. Um, but we're not seeing that in the United States anymore. We're definitely not seeing that in Canada anymore. So what's happening in the US and Canada is they're adding in more and more and more regulation and red tape and bureaucracy, which is making it difficult for people to start businesses very quickly. Uh, one of our friends here will have to interview her on this channel. She's from Canada and she opened up a coffee shop with her husband here in Mexico, and I said to her, how long did it take you to open up the coffee shop or she goes, A few months. I mean, we, we got the lease. From the person who was here before and we had to fix the place up before we could open. But I mean, to be honest, it really didn't take that long at all. If I was still in Canada, I would still be waiting for permits three years later just to open this place. So again, those of you who are interested in business and expanding to Mexico, you probably don't wanna deal with bureaucracy and bullshit before you can actually go make money. And as many of our Mexican friends have said. The government lets them make money. You have a lot of digitalization of administrative processes right now. We are starting to see a lot more of that. One of the issues in Mexico for a long time, or at least the thing that annoys Americans and Canadians and Western Europeans, depending on where you're from in Europe, is that for anything administrative, it's like super inefficient to get anything administrative done, uh, in Mexico, but that is changing. They are putting in new systems and processes and things, and again, we're seeing it with our own two eyes. Um, there's streamlined procedures for opening businesses, registering businesses, and if you're a foreign investor, you're going to have to deal with even less bureaucracy because Mexico likes foreign I investors. So. We're seeing a lot of indicators out of Mexico that they're doing quite well and they're going to continue doing quite well. Um, again, assuming nobody screws anything up, but it's looking pretty good in Mexico and as people who are currently spending most of their time in Mexico, we see it with our own two eyes. I mean, the first time I came to Mexico was. Almost 10 years ago, uh, was the first time I came. And even when I arrived in 2023 in comparison to what I had seen seven, eight years prior, I was like, whoa, what happened here? Because it was just developing so fast. Um, there's so much economic. Opportunity here. And one more thing I'm gonna put here, which they didn't say, but um, most of us already know it. Keep in mind that Mexico stayed open for the most part during the pandemic. Uh, the president at the time basically said, I am not destroying our economy over this. So I think they were open, like, uh, closed from what we were being told by Mexicans. They were closed maybe two or three weeks. And it's basically because the World Health Organization made them do it. Uh, but then after that, Mexico was like, we're open. We're open for business. Come hang out in Mexico. We'll have you in Mexico. Everybody wash your hands. Wear your mask. Don't be stupid, but we are open. And that's part of what led to the boom in Mexico. And in fact, a lot of people ended up moving to Mexico from other countries during that time period because. I mean, Canadians, for example, we have a lot of Canadian friends here and colleagues, they're like, try being trapped in your house for two freaking years. That's why we went to Mexico or Shasta. Uh, Townsend, again, one of our real estate experts down here in Mexico. She had a thriving yoga studio in Toronto. She could not operate for two years. And she was like, I'm out. I'm going to Mexico. And when she came to Mexico and saw all the real estate opportunity her, she went, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. Right? Winner, winner chicken dinner. I am staying here in Mexico because they actually allow people to do business. So. That's a pretty good general idea of what's going on here. It's pretty exciting if you ask me, and you know, a lot of economists talk about this or a lot of people into the global citizenship stuff. They're like, you wanna get in on a country before it's skyrocket. It's like you wanna get in in that moment, right, where it's like emerging. And a lot of people have told us in the comments, those who of you who may already be retired and you're not. Necessarily worried about any of this stuff anymore, like US youngins might be. Um, a lot of you have said, you know, current day Mexico reminds us of what the United States was like 50, 60 years ago, when it was still a nice place to live, and it was becoming an economic powerhouse. So take it from, from people who've seen it in different countries, what they feel is going on here.
