We're us a like, you yourself in we are in Mexico right everything from everything Just go to entrepreneur expat.com. to book a Okay, let's get breakfast in another of people have You out here? Because to me it sounds like a nightmare for from a In expat, Mexico myself. I've how uh, my dream, I've always been and making home spaces comfortable and. very cozy, so it's actually funny how I got into this. I married into it basically. Um, this since So, and I met my husband and then, uh. At that time I had a cafe. My original located down the here. So you here in Mexico? Yeah. Mexico? Yeah. Okay. We gotta backtrack a second. Okay. Okay. What brought you down to Mexico? How about we start there? Okay. So, I lived in, I thought he brought you down to Mexico. No. So, um, I'm from Florida. I'm from Florida, yes. Miami. Yeah. Yes. Okay. Mm-hmm. uh. I was living in St. Petersburg, decided that I wanted to sell everything and kind of move to a Latin American country. I wanted to learn Spanish, I wanted You know, we get fed things on the news all the time about how things are. South of the border, and I wanted to know it for myself. parents were both in the a bit. We lived in Japan and everything, so I was feeling kind of closed in. I was like, you know, I fever. I need to get outta here. So, started traveling. I first went to Costa Rica, beautiful country, but the. To me, the culture wasn't necessarily there. The architecture, the coziness, you know, I wanted something in the mountains that was a little bit colder and uh, so then I went to Guatemala and I went to Antigua and I there. It was very beautiful. These are wonderful Antigua. Yes, very cool place. We have some friends there now. Yeah, so I actually thought I was gonna move and, um, uh, messaged me and said they needed a house sitter here in Nahah for a month, and it's in the mountains and it's on a lake and it's, uh, cool weather and it's So right, let me just go check it out and see, see how it goes. And I had a return ticket to Antigua. doing, houses, and I was a muralist previous to opening the cafe and um, doing murals here. And then I cafe block and a half down. It did really got to fail. And super well our one year um, we, uh, COVID we shut it down and we kind of closed the doors, but pr right, six to, I think it was. Seven mom. They cafe and previous to COVID, we started kind of incorporating both businesses together, marketing them, all of that. shut it then, once reopening cafe in here. kind of started running the My mother-in-law unfortunately passed away about a year ago. Um, but we took over maybe about five. ago for her, with we air conditioners new mattresses, all of that. And added the cafe now we've been voted Best Bed and Breakfast and Best Coffee and best of Lake Chip Paul for the last three years. So that's great. And um, yeah, so that's kind of how, how that happened. But yeah, for, for our relocation clients ah area. We're putting you up here. we're putting you, it's a property. You guys have done job. Thank mother-in-law. She, she's responsible for the paint and, and the theme of the place, but we just try to keep up with her vision. So anything we add, change. We try to keep, keep her it's got like authentic old style, you know? Yeah. And people love that. So I didn't know because. Amanda channel for like a like, we need to meet it was brilliant how you and your in the Uh, in smart. I have to meet the cafe know, in Mexico? Oh, it was very easy. And that's kind of do was start a in, landed. Um, but it, easy. I mean, you to the municipality, of, at time it was like a hundred bucks. And comes in to check, have your fire right place and your signage and everything. then, you And, that's I mean, it's very a business here. Yeah. One of the things, uh, that. We've example, friends things that a lot of Americans notice, traditional Here than it would be It seems There's the US down here, it's kind of like the opposite. Yeah. In a lot of ways it is, uh, very much like that. And there are good things about that, and there are bad things about that. Of course. Yeah. obviously it's easier, you know. Uh, the bad things are anyone can open any business. Yep. Yeah. And, and they come and go very quickly. Yeah. and probably Canada as well, is that, you know, to make it, you you want to open, this is the business that you want, you're. convinced that it's successful, you know? there's a lot of competition in the US and there's a lot of red tape, like you said. And I think that's a good mean, Joe Schmo down the street isn't opening a business, you know what I mean? Pros and cons, like you said. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Yeah. come and go because you can just pop one up on the street. You know what I mean? Yeah. Would it United States or Canada, apply those principles that you guys run this in the United States in a lot of ways. here, I would assume that's an advantage. ways. Yeah. Absolutely. I mean, that's probably one of the main reasons. And the younger than the average crowd here, and we still have that energy, we're still, I told you before, running a race. So, um, certain standard that comes with, with that and, and I was actually thinking about that this morning about how. You and I were talking yesterday about how in it's easier to find certain to find It's um, you know, just, it's to be there, more to Um, here like that, but, but it's said, the red tape and, and everything like advantage of that Um, mentality. mentality you, know? Um, advantage. And shop. do you think is probably. dream, right? would be ideation phase. What successfully? Um. not much needs to be than just you know, how do you pay taxes, how do you pay bills, immigration and everything. I mean, you or permanent resident businesses here and pay taxes. Um, you have I wouldn't know Spanish because you conversational Spanish. So that's not necessary, recommended Spanish and um, you know, assimilate and all of those things. But one thing that I've noticed is that I feel bit better because. immersing yourself into the culture. Ahi is a very for people to Mexico, so learn Spanish get here, here, I mean, You you have to learn Spanish, you know? Right. You have to. working more with cause a lot of people, I don't know. show up to another country on a tourist visa and figure out how to work. And we're like, yeah, that doesn't quite right. Work that way. Right. So the residency. Correct. I mean, I mean, you can come down and start renting a place tourist visa and, and rent your place out. the, process. But I don't recommend it. else's paying taxes. And you should probably be legal. Legal legally. Legally there. Yeah, of course. So, um. And have tax advantages tax Well, one of them that I work with closely in real estate is capital here. can only get those are a resident or a citizen. are buying a house on a tourist you have to pay tax, uh, capital gains tax. Yeah. But get only just came up whole, you and two very popular didn't require the who'd gotten Yes. Mm-hmm. those banks to buy major problem. access to their from the get As caught up in like a lot of crossfire, right. That Yeah. Because the, the ones you're mentioning, bank accounts without residency. Without residency, yeah. But of friends who've presenting vehicles to us. Mm-hmm. Uh, like the timeshares or the, you know, overdeveloped areas like Tulum or anything like that. Yeah. stuff residency. It's impossible to get a lot of people happy to partner with people like sorted out and there are no surprises later. Yes, exactly. There's there's tax write offs here too, just like the us So offs as well. Yeah. property taxes aren't as high here No. Property taxes, you can account for property taxes being about. Um, how I factor dollars per every a hundred So property, you're paying$500 a year low. Very, very low. Okay. your husband, you guys are ready buying the Yes. But, um, of sentimental value in this property and we. You know, it's our baby. Um, our uh, pretty high. Yeah. So it wouldn't be, I necessarily be us to step off the property. it would've to be the right buyer. And it would have, well, I don't, not I don't uh, I believe in. Having the right buyer for a property. Like if I'm selling a property and I'm like, oh no, you can't this Or, you know, someone who's gonna turn this modern, like, that's not my business. I don't own it anymore, you know? Oh, that's fair. Yes. Um, so, like me necessarily, but the person purchasing it, it has to be right for them. In the sense that we're not gonna sell uh, because it it's kind of a destination place, you know, our bed and number one bed and breakfast in Yes. Yes. So, uh, if, if they're, if they're paying a price higher it's because they've walked in have to have it. Yeah. So, so like a great Because I know there watching that, they're like, that's my dream. I've always wanted that. Mm-hmm. You anything like that, sometimes they buy'cause it's in real estate, things Uh, why there's somebody watching who's like, you know, I was thinking about buying a house, but I would rather have, you out the visa watching the right Mm-hmm. think, uh. The thing is all of our systems in place, so we have the cafe kind of attached to it, that also acts as a front desk. day, 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM uh, they're to go. Basically, if you wanted to kind of leave the property for a day or two and just like it could run itself, um, all the rooms basically run themselves. it's not that difficult. Uh, the for this somebody who's creative. Someone who like vision uh, interested creative with this place. It's not cookie cutter. The furniture doesn't match, but it flows scenes. a good property. Thank you. Has done Um, and so, so someone creative and also somebody who enjoys working with the public, you know, um, I'm I wouldn't say introvert, but I'm, I'm more of like a back of the house type of person who puts the systems properly. My people person. He'll sit for three to people every day you know, like sounds, it's like the reverse of me and Justin. Yeah. So, uh, so he's like that. So and, and this it destination. Chip. But it's more of like a, people area out and see if it's right that they meet when they come here. I mean, building from First Step is something that's, that's great here and, and who wants to build involved in the next door to the Lake Chip Paul Society. Oh yes. Yeah. kind of like hub. where people first go when they, when they move to this area or they're checking out the So, um, uh, feel like the perfect person would be someone who's creative, someone and someone who, who wants an income but also because than, a hobby at this location, but somebody who just but not necessarily retire, you know? Yeah. It's, it's kind of all set up, but everything, all the rooms are order. All of the air conditioners, all the because a lot what they'll do like a more here it's kind of like. Everything's ready to go. Yeah. Everything's ready to go. done. You're buying a business. Yeah. Yeah. All your employees are here. all of everything. to go. There's huge value can just come and buy it, enjoy it. Everything's already running. It starts to cash flow and you're done. Yeah. And then you get a visa. Yeah. In the process. Oh, yes. Yeah. Because we This buying Um, could could facilitate residency. Yeah. think it's a I,'cause sometimes Justin and I think you really wanna buy a single lifestyle choice. Like, businesses are so much more interesting. And then you can live at this business. Yes. So it kind of, actually we have a. So we have on this property. And one of those casita in the back. Yes. Which is huge. Yeah. So that's a, that's a two bathroom, two level with a mirror door kitchen, fully stocked uh, basically did some, uh, shots of the Oh, you By now. Oh, that's the one You mean when I left you guys in the casino people are like the view, and I'm like, that's the view at the breakfast. Okay. Yeah. there. You can here. now it's rainy like, oh my God. I know. so everywhere in you Maybe instead of just of people like we talk to will tell us, yeah, you and like, we're retired, you know, but we're not dead. No, this would be great because, because then if you live, if you live in the casita. uh, you have the six other income. You have the cafe producing you income that's great. And door to LCS. And this is right smack from the Malon from ah, You wouldn't even need a car your car's needed in this area. location is like of Yeah. I think it's a great investment. Yeah. For that I might be that person. entrepreneur Expat slash and. can sell this place for you. Maybe. Let's see what happens. It's gonna be high price. It's gonna, it's gonna be pretty high. So, um, it might be a lifestyle investment for somebody. Yeah. I if, if there's anything in this area you were to buy and it'd emotional investment, like monetary thing. Like is the The business to buy. Yeah. ended up the channel. She ended up buying Julia Child's property. Oh, yeah. In France. Oh, nice. Yeah. stunning. I should probably and interview her on the channel, French countryside, she was a cook. That's what she does now. That TV show. there. Yeah. there, is that to it. Right? It's in some way Where just like, I I, you know, someone coming down who's like, I to do, but also I need a really cool place. want to, I want people to talk about now is like people talk about. This place. They come here just to take photos for Instagram, just to, you know, be in this atmosphere, cozy, you know, uh, and you guys put a lot of to make sure our staff, our staff, our staff is all great. They're, they're bilingual. They're, they're very helpful. We do a lot of training with them. Yeah. Um, so yeah, people love that property. Yeah. All right guys, so once slash Amanda, more about real estate in because you're also pretty, a pretty well agent. Yeah. Around here as well. lot all the one, and one. And Very good. Yeah, Had some practice.
