Episode - 28: Life in Transition
Sometimes life takes unexpected turns, and you find yourself sleeping on a cot in your mom's dining room while narrating romance novels. That's exactly where I am after selling my house and purchasing land for my next chapter.
The recent months have been a whirlwind of transition. While the constant rain has made development on my new property challenging, I've been putting critical pieces in place – investing in equipment like a mini excavator and skid steer to handle the heavy lifting, quite literally. These Chinese-made machines might not be top-of-the-line, but they'll save my back and get the job done. I've also picked up woodworking projects, crafting cedar planter boxes to help fund this transition period when outgoing expenses have outpaced income.
Perhaps most surprisingly, I've finally taken the leap into audiobook narration – something people have been telling me to pursue for years given my "lovely voice." My temporary workspace in mom's basement has become a recording studio as I prepare to narrate my first romance novel. It's both exciting and nerve-wracking as I work on perfecting 15 minutes of clean, flowing narration without stumbling over words or pronunciations. With a deadline at the end of June, I'm embracing this new venture and looking forward to interviewing the author to help promote the finished product. Life certainly doesn't always follow a straight path, but sometimes the detours lead to the most interesting destinations. Stay tuned for updates as this journey continues to unfold.
5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Hello, how's everybody been? It's been a bit Been a lot going on and over time I've filled all of it in. I just I wanted to get on. It's been an interesting last couple months.
Speaker 1:Short story Sold my house. You guys kind of knew that Bought land. You knew that Moved into my mom's house. Not sure if I shared that or not, I can't remember, but I'm sorry, trying to move my microphone around here. So I currently have been living on a cot in a dining room Trying to get a chance to get down to work on the land a little bit Got everything.
Speaker 1:You know, everything's in place, other than, you know, actually having to spend some time down there. Weather's been crazy. Seems like it just hasn't done anything but rain and then in between the rainstorms, well it uh, sorry, I'm tired. It's 1.52 in the morning on Monday, whatever day, the 19th May, may 19th, excuse me, that's what day it is for me. Whatever day it is, you're going to listen to this. That's up to you. I'm just trying to gather my thoughts. I was just I wanted to get something out. I was just I wanted to get something out. So, um, so yeah, I got a lot of stuff in place. I bought a truck, I bought some equipment to help with the development of the land to move ground easier without breaking my back and to lift heavy things. So I picked up a uh, yeah.
Speaker 1:I mean, they're Chinese, whatever they work. But I picked up a mini excavator and a mini skid steer to do the hard work, the hard labor, bought a trailer, so I've been spending money and I haven't had a whole lot of money coming in, but I had some stuff moving, did some woodworking boxes for cedar planter boxes, kept me busy for a little bit, you know, kind of funded a little bit of all this as well, um, and then I finally got my, obviously my microphone and stuff set up. Sorry, man, I am just like drained.
Speaker 1:And that's part of why I wanted to get on here too, but I God damn it. Uh, no, I got my microphone set back up, my computer all set back up in the basement for the current moment, just as a temporary stopover for what next comes with life, of my weird life, I guess. So I could at least work a little, get some other work done and not to, you know, throw a wrench in the pot. But I was submitting some auditions for some stuff and to do some book narration. So I have been told over the years many, many times by many, many people that I need to do book narrations or audio books or whatever. I didn't really understand how to get into any of that and it's taken me some time to figure it all out. And with everything that's out there now, it makes it a little bit easier. So be on the look for information. In regards to the book that I will be a narrator for. You get to hear this lovely voice on a book. How about that? It's a romance too, so we'll see how wild it gets and, uh, how, uh, how much I will uh get into that. So, um, so that's to come. I've got to, over the next couple days, get 15 minutes done of reading with recording, without fucking up Making sure I'm pronouncing and reading at a good flow, not sniffling and coughing and whatever a lot. So it's going to be interesting, to say the least. So, and then I've got until the end of June to finish. So once that's all completed and out ready for public, then I will definitely share.
Speaker 1:I'm sure I'll talk to the author to find out for sure what steps of doing promotioning for it. This is a first for me, so we'll see. We're going to ride this wave and see where it takes us. So that's, I think, all I want to really say right now. I just wanted to jump on. I'm just trying to get everything squared away. So I've got money coming in for what I'm going to be doing to be able to make it easier. I'm still trying to chase other paths, you know, picking up some things I've been wanting to do for years Finally have the opportunity to kind of take it and you know, and just enjoy whatever it is that I want to do.
Speaker 1:So more coming, um, I'm gonna try to probably hopefully set up, you know, interview with the author on the book. Interview with the author on the book. Talk about the book a little bit, help promote it and see who knows. I don't know what the status of this author is. I haven't done enough research to find out the background of their. So something could be a brew with somebody new in regards to that style or genre of books and you could hear my voice. Hopefully, hopefully, it all works out and I can get it figured out. So that's it, man. I'm going to see you later. Take it Bye.
