Kevin Spencer

Thank you. Yeah.

Cindy Maricle

Um, so as you're here, you know, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and the journey to where you are today?

Kevin Spencer

Oh, sure. So, well, I'm a, I'm a mother of four and a grandmother of two. Um, and yeah, I live in central Oregon. We live on a little ranch and we've raised and homeschooled four kids. My background is medical technology. I have a bachelor's degree and I used to run clinical laboratories back in the day before I started having children. And so I've been an entrepreneur. My husband and I have all kinds of interests. He's a farmer and I work with natural wellness support, essential oils. So yeah.

That's good stuff. You piqued my interest for sure. So can you dive down a bit and tell us about your expertise in layman terms in terms of what that is?

Sure. So I worked, I did blood work and all kinds of analytical clinical work in hospitals and clinics for years. And I taught hematology, which is the study of blood. So I'm a kind of a science geek. But what, that's my background. However, now I am, I have kind of left the Western medical uh world and I work with natural products and uh yeah I uh I got into that this work because western medicine didn't have what I needed about oh man it's been about 16 17 years ago I've I got thrown off horses a few times and blew out my back Wow. Yeah. And so, of course, I went to the neurosurgeon specialists here in Central Oregon, and they had two answers, steroid injections to manage the pain, or a titanium plate fusion surgery, like using my spine. And I really didn't like those options. And yeah, so I didn't I decided to kind of explore what I could do naturally. And I used to I had heard about essential oils. I thought it was expensive potpourri. I just thought, oh, that's silly, you know, but I met a woman my mentor who gave me a technique. She gave me like a massage type of technique called the raindrop technique. And that was the one thing that took away. I mean, I felt better right away. And so I didn't do the surgery. And you know, Kevin, people think this is weird, but I always like to mention it because it gives a lot of hope to people. I haven't had an aspirin or a Tylenol or any medications at all. since, I don't know, 2006, something like that, since I started using essential oils. And I'm 62 years old and I live a very active, abundant life. So that's kind of in a nutshell. I have a lot of passion because I have found there's ways that you can support your body naturally to do what it's designed to do, which is heal itself. Not always, but often we can avoid unnecessary interventions. So that's what I get.

It touched on something that's gonna peak a lot of interest, a lot of listeners' interest. It's peaked my interest as well. I mean, I've kind of adapted to that, but what you just said, there is a significant misconception that you hear about in terms of people using natural things to heal themselves compared to if you have to go to the doctor and get a prescription. How do you bridge that when you talk to a potential client or in any way in your world?

That's a great question and it depends on the person, but I just tell my story. And nobody can argue with what my experience is. Exactly. I know what I know. All I know is I don't use drugs. I ski and hike and climb mountains or whatever, play pickleball. And I don't, but I still have herniated discs.

Yeah, well, you fell off a horse.

My upper spine has three blown discs. right yeah and multiple times kind of scared of horses and that's not a good thing when you're riding a horse they're big animals they they want us to take control but that's a whole nother conversation so anyway uh yeah i i i think the bridge is experiential it's like i can give you the science So since 2006, I have studied with the thought leaders and the pioneers of this industry. And I've literally had the privilege of working at, like volunteering in harvests at Young Living's farms around the world, and just helping having a part in distilling and producing essential oils. So I know what it's like. from the inside, you know. And I think that's really important because when I share with people I say all I know is you need to know the source because there's a lot of kind of cheapened or adulterated essential oils that frankly they may not be helpful. So

So that's a good point. And I think that transcends into my next question. And it's a two-part. What trends do you see going forward in this industry? And where do you think it's going to head in the next five to 10 years? Because it's getting big from what you see all over. So I'd like you to share your thoughts on that.

Well, you know, I don't read into the future. That is a very big question and it's a big subject. I guess what I think is more and more people are ready to take responsibility for their own wellbeing. And the amount of stress is really increasing in our world. And stress causes pain, whether it's emotional pain or physical pain. stress is a factor and you know there's a lot of things that western medicine really can't really help people with they send them home and give them a drug and and i think people are ready to take more responsibility for uh just learning what they can do naturally i'm seeing that in my network of people like wow really how is it that I might not need to be on medication. Now, of course, I'm not a doctor, I'm an educator.

Exactly.

So full disclaimer, I, you know, the FDA doesn't let me say much. So I basically tell people my story, my experience, and I teach them about plants, and then they work with their doctor if they want to. And, you know, so I'm an educator, not a doctor, not a medical professional anymore.

So when you're talking about, um, when you talked about your habits and your routines, that's taking you along the path of your career. Um, what would you, what advice you would give somebody who wants to take that similar path or join your, your, your, you know, join your company or join your, your path?

You know, when I people don't usually just jump right in, they want to know, well, there's all kinds of oils. Why? Why your company? So I usually tell them there's We're the farmer. Young Living Essential Oils has farms. We are very integral with the production of the plants and the distillation of the oils. Many other companies are brokers. They'll buy essential oils and maybe make their own mixes and put their label on it. So I always advise people to know the source because if you're looking for therapeutic results, you really need to have access to essential oils that have integrity, that haven't been compromised. And we're in business, you're in business, Kevin, you know. If there's no regulation, then people and companies, they're looking to add to their bottom line, right? And the best way to do that with essential oils is to just dilute them. and add colorless odorless solvents and then you have maybe a little bit of the pure oil and the rest of the product is whatever and there's unfortunately for the consumer The labeling laws in the United States allow companies to say 100% pure if there's as little as 5% of that pure substance in the container. It's so deceptive. And so you just need to really find somebody you trust and find a company you trust. And so that's what I do. I educate. I love to help people know what to do for themselves. So that's what I do. And that's my advice. tasks.

What would you circle on as your greatest achievement in your business? And I guess two-part in terms of your personal achievements, if you can answer that.

Oh man, well I have achieved a rank in the leadership of Young Living Essential Oils that's equivalent to the top one-tenth of one percent of the company. Right now, basically, I'm in the top one percent of the company, you might say. That has happened as a result of me being able to help people who then can't help but tell their story. And so they reach out to their friends and family, and it's just created a beautiful network of wellness minded people. That's, that's an accomplishment. Because I I wasn't afraid to share and teach and pass it forward. But really, I think the most remarkable privilege, not an accomplishment, but a privilege, is that I got to learn directly from the founder of Young Living, Gary Young, and from one of the biggest educating organizations. the founder of that organization, Dr. David Stewart, who has written and published many of the books on that shelf. I got to know him personally and work with him. So I feel very privileged. And I think that's the most astounding thing about my career. And so these men, have passed on they're no longer on this planet so i have that information and knowledge and i really have a passion to share it and pay it forward and even create your own legacy moving forward right absolutely i i would love for ordinary people to have access to extraordinary possibility in wellness and you know not everybody maybe has the resources. And so one of the most beautiful things about Young Living is if they can share it and help other people have access, there's a beautiful kind of compensation available that helps anybody afford these products. And I think that's worth a conversation. If somebody's like, wow, I can't afford that. So I'm like, well, let me help you find people that also need these products. So I love that part of it.

And a question based on that would be, how do you measure the success of your business? Is it based on each consultation? I mean, you know, most people say measure success based on sales. And I disagree with that. I think your success should be based on what you have done, what you've implemented, how you have helped people. So not to take your answer out of your mouth, but can you elaborate on that?

Oh, that's exactly what I would have said. How many people have I helped? You know, it's I still after all these years, since 2006, I've been as soon as I got results in my life and realize I don't have to have surgery, and I don't need medications. I, I have not stopped sharing that information with people. And So even today, all these years forward, decades, decade and a half, when I meet someone and they get a result, I still get a thrill and it's just the empowerment. And so I think that's success. You know, a lot of people start business as you know, and then they quit. And one of my favorite quotes is the definition of success is the continual progressive um, movement towards a worthy ideal. I kind of didn't quote it correctly, but it's, it's when you don't quit, but you continue to make progress towards a goal. That is an ideal that you want to trade your life for, you know, and for me, I want to empower people to feel better and look better and live better naturally.

That's exactly what people need to hear because a lot of people quit because it gets too hard and it's difficult. And we don't realize if things were easy, then everybody would do it as they said in the past. Is there any particular project or anything specific that you can tell our listeners that you're working on? I mean, without giving trade secrets, of course, that you think.

Yeah, I can. I realize some of your audience is listening, so they can't see this. But this is my favorite everyday product. It's called Ningxia Red. And it's a juice infused with essential oils and it's made from pureed goji berries, or what we call wolf berries. So this is a super food. And you see, you can't see through it. It's an opaque, a very concentrated, you see like... Yeah. So I have a project. I would like, there is, have you ever heard of live blood cell analysis?

I've heard of it. Don't know what it is.

It's, it's kind of a special way to look at your blood and you can see that the red blood cells are clumping together. I'm going to, I'm going to take a couple minutes and really explain something because I'm really excited about this. So inflammation happens when you have pain. And even if you don't have pain in your body, there's just a lot of lifestyle-related inflammation, right? Most people in the United States live a lifestyle that brings inflammation into their bodies. And what happens besides the pain is our red blood cells get sticky and they clump together and it compromises their very function. And what's the function of a red blood cell? It is to transport oxygen into tissue and to bring the waste product, which is carbon dioxide, out of the tissue and out of the body. So this gas exchange, it happens very efficiently when our red blood cells, so this is a cross-section of a red blood cell, it kind of looks like a donut shape rather than a coin shape. So if you cut a red blood cell in half, and look at the side view, it has inflated edges, kind of almost like a tire or a donut. And the reason I believe God designed, sorry to introduce religion, but I think God or the creator designed red blood cells with more surface area. So that ballooning of the edge makes it have more surface area so that it can exchange oxygen more efficiently. Well, what happens with inflammation is these red blood cells stick together in clumps, and then there's hardly any surface area because it's just a clump. Not only that, but the capillaries, those little vessels that go deep into our tissues, can only handle one or two or three single red blood cells. When they clump together, they can't go as deep into the tissue, so we People suffer from not enough oxygen in their tissues, in their body, in their brain, in their life, you know? And so that's a compromised state. And so this, what I want to do is have a little experiment where, okay, I'm fairly healthy, but I probably have some clumped red blood cells because I have inflammation, you know, and then take one serving of this product and then another sample of my blood cells and show that they're floating freely. And I'm looking right now for a live blood cell analysis laboratory. that would let me create this project. That was a deep dive into science Kevin, I apologize in advance.

It's okay, I mean I'm always looking for knowledge and you just educated me on terms of that. I mean I basically want to ask you, how do I get a bottle of that product?

Well, I'll send you a link and you'll buy it and we'll be connected. And I'm your Sherpa. I'm your educator. That would be great. Yeah, I'll do that. I'll send you a link.

You sold me for sure.

Well, you know, here's the other thing about this is It neutralizes lactic acid. So do you ever work out? Do you belong to a gym? So you probably know that when you work muscles, abs are really the main one for me. If you work muscles, the next day or two you hurt. right well it's because of the breaking of the muscle fibers releasing lactic acid into your tissues that creates this achy feeling the next day or two days later well interestingly i'm not an athlete if you could see me you'd know very visibly i'm not an athlete i work kind of mostly in my head and i But I can jump up and go play a game of pickleball with 20-year-olds, I'm 62, and not hurt the next day. And I really deserve to hurt, but I don't. And it's because I always take two ounces of NingXia Red, this product, and it neutralizes that lactic acid buildup. and I don't hurt, it's crazy. And so that's another, I think athletes and gym owners and a lot of people need to know that because if it works for me, it'll work for anybody, you know?

Well, I mean, I started working out again probably about six months ago, so sign me up for sure. Do you know what I'm talking about?

Do you hurt the next day after you do a bunch of crunches?

Sometimes it's the next day or the next two days, depending on how you live, you know, things along that line. This is great. I mean, I think what I want to know now is tell me a little bit about your family. What's going on, you know?

Oh, you know, Mother's Day just happened. Right. that time dates this recording, but you know, um, yesterday, so we have three fully launched, uh, kids that live within a mile, you know, 10 minutes from my house. Right. And then we have, one of our daughters is married and lives in Texas. And so all four kids, um, are just fully launched doing their thing. They're pretty much entrepreneurs. My husband loves to garden. He has, you know, that's what he, his passion is. He grows the best quality food. It's just amazing food. And yeah, I have two little grandsons a mile and a half down the road. Like how lucky am I, you know? So, yeah.

I know you said you had some, I mean, I read your bio, you have some pets, right?

My husband has a dog. We have four cats, farm cats. We live in the country on a ranch. And so there's rodents out here. So we have four little cats. Yeah, it is beautiful here. We live in a beautiful place. And then we have a flock of sheep. Our youngest dog has sheep. And so our pastures are filled with little lambs right now. It's wonderful.

It's a beautiful picture.

Yeah, it is.
