About Your Host

Dr. Joanna Shoffner Scott is an organizational development consultant who helps leaders of nonprofits, philanthropies, and businesses create workplaces that work for everyone.

Hey there. This is Joanna Shoffner Scott, host of the Race in the Workplace podcast. I am an organizational development consultant and founder of the Stamey Street Consulting Group. I help nonprofits, philanthropies, and private businesses create equitable organizations that work for everyone.

Welcome to season three. This season, I will dive into conversations, perspectives, and practical tools that unpack what it takes to build racially equitable organizations. I understand that a deep commitment to an equitable practice can feel isolating. I've had that experience myself. Through this podcast, I want to remind you that you are not alone and that many leaders face similar challenges. I hope you see that throughline in each episode this season.

Additionally, I'm excited to bring you a series called Racial Equity for Adaptive Leaders, which will feature conversations with my colleague Anthony Armstrong, the founder of Make Communities. The landscape for leaders who want to be change-makers and build equitable organizations has shifted significantly since 2020. I see some of that shift in my practice, and I think it's important to name.

I've designed this season to help you navigate these shifts. Whether you call the shifts a backlash, a pullback, or retrenchment, the impact is REAL for leaders doing their best to create equitable organizations and live into their mission, vision, and values.

So, let's explore together how race, racism, and racial equity play out in workplaces and workspaces in a time of great opportunity and great change. I hope you'll join me for season three.
