Dietrich L Horsey
What if the biggest obstacle on your journey to getting fit isn't your diet or workout plan, but your perception of yourself and your capabilities? We dive deep into this idea in this episode, drawing from personal experiences and challenges overcame along the way. We start with the common fear of losing weight, and more importantly, keeping it off. As we share thoughts from conversations with clients, we explore the role self-perception plays in achieving fitness goals and how it's often the root of self-sabotage.

We share potent anecdotes about our experiences in competitive fitness, exposing the mental hurdles that can hinder progress. The episode also touches on the importance of consistency and perseverance in any fitness plan. This discussion isn't a blueprint to a one-size-fits-all fitness journey, but a motivational boost for those on their unique path to better health. It's a reminder to trust the process, stay committed, and most importantly, believe in your worth. So, set your fears aside, tune in to Get Fit Methods, and start the new year with a renewed mindset!

Speaker 1:

Welcome to another episode of Get Fit Methods. So I was having a little conversation with one of my clients this morning and came up with trying to establish some goals ahead of the new year, because I think it's advantageous to start ahead of time, opposed to starting on the day of like everyone else. And one of the things that I run across often when setting goals or you know, is one how to lose the weight and keep it off, and I think some of the fear when it comes to these kind of things is, once I lose the weight, how am I going to keep it off? And one of the coaches that I used to work with had a very simple answer to that, which was whatever you did to get there, you do the opposite. Easier said than done, for certain, but I think it is comes down to perception of the way you see yourself, your capabilities, your experiences. If you can change your perception about the way you feel about yourself, see yourself and your capabilities to get there, I think that is where everything would, where the problem starts and ends.

Speaker 1:

I remember when I was getting ready for competition many years ago, and usually it's like three months for us to get ready for competition over me anyway and my nutrition coach. You know we do a before and then somewhere in between we do like another photo of like then and you get in that place where, mentally, like okay, I'm not getting there fast enough same way of a client probably feel too, I get there fast enough. And I would, you know, email them back then because we have text and I would email them, say you know it's not working, you know I'm not sure what I need to do. You always say, just stick to your guns, just do what you've been doing, just give a time. Your body's gonna adjust and it makes a change. And within that there were there's one time, particularly that you know I'm like it's not working and I said, but you know I feel like, okay, I can get there in time, I still come in shape for the competition.

Speaker 1:

And I let my mind get the best of me and I started, you know, having little food that probably shouldn't have, almost like you know the fact that I thought that wasn't working. It's almost like I was giving up to some degree on getting the best shape, but then so I had like a slice of pizza or a couple slices of pizza within that time and I get on stage and I don't have my best showing. But now I'm upset and my my first thought is oh, you know they're trying to cheat me from. You know, in this competition maybe you got a favorite and that was not the case at all. It's just the fact I cheated myself beforehand, just my perception about what I thought was going on. That wasn't really happening at all, but I made that come true because of my thought, if that makes sense. So perception is reality.

Speaker 1:

You have to kind of feel good about and trust the journey that you're on and have the will to kind of stick to your guns and perseverance, all that kind of stuff, because if not, you yourself will create the thing you don't want by thinking about what you don't want. So that's kind of my thing for today. When it comes to getting ready for the new year, holiday season, just if you are on this journey of getting in better shape, my moms who are busy just know that one you're worth it, you're worthy and just you know. Stay with that and keep focused on what the outcome that you want for yourself and just focus on that and just wherever the steps that are out there in front of you stick to that long enough to allow for the change. If you stick to it long enough, any diet, any nutrition plan will probably work, as long as the deficit somewhere in there. It's still a work. A lot of times people give up before they actually see the result because sometime for some people it takes a little longer, because we're not built the same. So therefore the change may come a little longer for some people and a little faster for others. So that's my bit for today.
