Discover the startling truth behind our taste buds' betrayal as Mark Schatzker, author of "The Dorito Effect," joins us to expose the underbelly of flavor manipulation in our food. Prepare to have your mind whirled and taste perception challenged as we navigate through the chronicles of how natural flavors have been hijacked since the 1950s, leading to a gastronomic paradox where abundance of flavor variety masks a decline in authentic taste.

Feast on a conversation ripe with revelations on how the seasoning evolution in chicken and the fertilization impacts on vegetables have led to an increase in calorie consumption and a potential crisis in our food wisdom. Our discussion with Schatzker is more than an exploration; it's a call to action for all of us to wake up to the taste deception and rekindle our relationship with genuinely farm-raised, natural foods. By shunning synthetic enhancements and embracing the goodness of nature, we uncover the path to not just savoring our meals, but safeguarding our health.

Speaker 1:

Hey everybody, we got a topic today about health and food and I'm not sure if you guys are aware of this. Some may be aware of it, some may not, but there's a thing about called the Dorito Effect. Has anybody ever heard about the Dorito Effect and food, how they change the taste and all that kind of good stuff? Well, hang on to your hats, folks, it is a doozy. And now it kind of really explains to me why we have weight gain or that kind of stuff due to one change the taste of food. So Mr Mark Shasker, the author of this book, the Dorito Effect, goes into great detail about the history of how it changed and why it changed and all that kind of stuff and what it's done to our food and the taste of our food, which led to less taste due to bio, whatever that is, chemistry stuff they add to food to make it taste better. So back in the 1950s is where the major change came about recipes of chicken dishes published in 1896 through 1917, where basically you only see salt and pepper as seasoning spices, things to what basically did what we call a teddy bear stuffing effect, where I guess they started changing the flavors using vitamins and stuff like that, feeding that to the chickens, and that changed even though they were bigger. They had less taste, less flavor. Same thing applies to veggies as well. So with the fertilization and all that kind of stuff and bio distribution, that causes less flavor in the foods too. So I think what's happening here is that we have more flavor, more variety of flavors, that is, but less actual flavor in the food. So it's almost like a masking of the flavor of the food. That's why you have I don't know how many different Dorito flavors they have out now just to chemically enhancing the flavor and stuff like that. So that's why we more, because we're adding more stuff to it to make it taste good, therefore slowly adding more calories to our food, which is crazy when you think about it. It's crazy that we would do that to ourselves or allow them to do it to us. That is yeah. So that is Dorito effect and it goes in all the details about, let's see, fertilization, selective breeding, the adverse effects to it, how science is about vanilla to make it enhance all the flavors, stuff like that. I mean it's a host of different things. It's a great book.

Speaker 1:

I was listening to like a little bit of the the outskirts of the book itself this morning and it goes to synthetic flavors and what makes food addictive and our innate food wisdom is at risk. So, yeah, I mean a whole lot of stuff going on with you know flavor of foods which to me, just from what I gather from listening to it, because I don't really read a lot but yeah, just listen to the book, it was quite eye-opening when it came down to all the different flavors, stuff like that, then it made perfect sense. So if you ever feel like you know you are losing your taste buds you probably are and you got to add more stuff to your food to get a better flavor, well, that is what's happening behind the curtain, so to speak. So always try to buy again back to you know eating natural, old-fashioned way. Try to buy farm-raised foods, which is probably hard to find based on the industry and stuff like that. But there are places that still believe in farm-raised and not, as a matter of fact, just not thinking about it out loud. This whole thing about you know making engineer food from inside a plant. You know scientifically changing Making food from whatever, how they do that craziness. That alone is that same science. To talk about what he put flavor in the food, which is not actually food, but what it also does, will kill your natural taste buds. That way you won't really know what is good food post from bad food. That makes sense. So do you research, read the labels before those chemical enhancements in your food to Keep everybody healthy.

Speaker 1:

Especially, you know, like we got a, you know January coming up and everybody's trying to get healthy. I think in order for us to get really healthy this is just my take in order for us to get really healthy, we as the consumers have to do a better job of getting together and Fighting, or come together and, I see, not buying that food like. I think Woody Harrison talked about this too. If you were to want to make a change in the food that we eat, we have to come together as human beings, communities, and just say we're not going to buy these foods like McDonald's, stuff like that. Because I Think if you really were concerned about health and being healthy for the world, stuff like that, they really were concerned about our health. They Not gonna. You know who they are Then we would have more, more commercials About how to eat healthier and where to go to get that healthy food, but, as you see, it is swamped with just the opposite and we have to be better.

Speaker 1:

Come together About just saying no to this whole Uprising of we're gonna change the taste of the food and make it from. You know, I don't want to make it from a seed or some kind of embryo or something of whatever it is. We have to be better at fighting that, fighting those people. I was well there fighting to keep us sick and that's just my take on. I'm trying to get you know, political or where you want to call it, but you know, as a health professional, it's very important and especially I'm a little ran here, so bear with me.

Speaker 1:

Women getting older, hormonal changes None of these added additional stuff is gonna be good for your overall health. I'm sure it's cancerous too, all that. So we had to fight back and say no. Just like the war against drugs, we have to be On that bandwagon a war against changing our food. That's all I got to say about that. Did you horsey?
