Reflect on This

Bonus Episode 1 - Meditation (April 1)

Johnny Hinshaw Season 2 Episode 14

Season 2 Episode 14 (Bonus 1) -- How do cows and sheep illustrate the biblical principle of meditating on Scripture throughout the day?  Listen and find out!

And remember that today's episode is released on April 1st.  (Hint, hint!  Wink, wink!) 😊

Welcome to a special bonus episode of this podcast.

I have been thinking lately about a very important biblical principle:  the principle of meditation.  Meditation is essentially quiet reflection upon the words of Scripture,  asking the Holy Spirit to speak the meaning of the words to not only our mind but to our heart and spirit.  This helps us to apply the passage to our lives, such that it changes how we think, act, and live.

Because meditation is this quiet reflection upon Scripture, where we allow God’s Word to live in our heart, and because meditation upon Scripture is so important, it became the inspiration for the name of this podcast:  “Reflect on This.”

I wanted to share with you a great illustration on meditation from the world of nature.  Cows and sheep illustrate the process of meditation in their method of digesting their food.  Their digestive system has several chambers for the storage of their partially chewed food.  These animals actually chew and swallow their food, then later regurgitate, re-chew, and re-swallow it in a process called rumination.  Cows and sheep will repeat this rumination process for several hours each day.

In a similar way, followers of Jesus are encouraged to consume God’s Word (through reflection, memorization, etc.) and then throughout the day bring this spiritual food back to mind for further reflection and spiritual nourishment.

Psalm 119:97 CSB  How I love your instruction! It is my meditation all day long.

So, in an attempt to provide greater insight into the purpose of this podcast, today with this special bonus episode, I am announcing that I am changing the name of the podcast to “Ruminate on This.”  I am also changing the artwork of the podcast to support this new name.  The tagline for the podcast is now “Biblical principles you can chew on.”  You can see the new podcast artwork that debuts with this episode.

Let me say again today’s big idea:  God desires for us to meditate upon Scripture throughout the day – so that God’s Word will live in our heart, and change how we think, act, and live!

Today, I encourage you to “Ruminate on This.”

And PS – remember that today’s episode is released on April 1st.  (Hint, hint!  Wink, wink!) 😊
