Hey there. Welcome to the coming home to joy business podcast. I'm your host, Tina Joy Cochran, and I am so happy that you are here. There is no need to stop your busy life right now. Let's just hang out together as we discover more joy in business. Just drop me into your pocket and keep on going. Can't wait to share this episode with you. I am excited that you're joining me for this episode of the coming home to joy podcast. This is a special coaching episode where you and I are going to talk about something that's been, on my heart for a long time to share with you. In this episode, we're going to talk about the number one asset in your business. I would submit that this asset is the same for every business, whether you are running a soap making business, or you are a YouTube creator you have the same number one asset in the business. What we're going to talk about today is what that asset is. We're going to review what it means to have a joy led business. And then we're going to talk about why this number one asset is so important and how you can make sure that you are doing something each day that will help support the asset and ultimately help your business grow. I am your coach and your host, Tina Joy Cochran, and I have been praying for you and thinking about you. And I am so glad. That we get a chance to spend some time together today. Let's take a minute and pray and then let's talk about business and how we can use the number one asset to increase joy and grow the business. Father, thank you. Thank you that we have the opportunity to connect with each other through this podcast and that you are present in all of it and that you love us more than any of us can imagine and that you are for us and that the business that you have put on our heart is actually a dream of yours to help us to see that. and feel you close in Jesus name. Amen. Okay, let's dive in with a quick reminder. You have not listened to some previous episodes and this may be your first episode. Welcome. If you are a long time listener, I'm glad you're back. Let's talk about what it means to be a joy led business. Being joy led is operating each day from the foundation of joy not a feeling. It's a state of being the best part of this is that God is designed it for us and that he will help us in it. Psalm 1611 says, you make known to me the path of life. You will fill me with joy. There it is in your presence with eternal pleasure at your right hand. You see, we were designed for joy. joy becomes three main components, clarity, deciding what you're building, deciding where you're going. Each day I would submit no matter what you're looking at, whether you're looking at what you're going to have for breakfast or how you're going to launch and grow a business, getting clear on what you are doing is the first step towards being joy led step. Number two is building confidence. Confidence is building the things that you have, learning what you need to learn, doing what you need to do in order to be equipped. To go where you're trying to go or build what you're trying to build. And then we add the third component, which is commitment without commitment. We could know exactly where we want to go and we could have everything that we need to get there and still spend our days sitting on the couch committed leads us to take action. And then we take action over and over and over again. So in a nutshell, having a joy led business is a business that is built on clarity, confidence, and commitment. Now, when we think about a joy led business, that's great. But what about this asset? let's take a step back. Asset is kind of a business y word. And so maybe those of you who are going, Oh, I don't do the business stuff. I'm not a business owner. What does she mean by asset assets are the things in your business that help the business grow. I'll give you some examples. An asset would be The inventory that you have, if you are a soap maker or an artist, an asset would be the building that you're in. An asset would be the staff that you have working for you. People sometimes are assets. And that leads me to the number one asset, regardless of what type of business you're running, what type of business you're dreaming of growing. Guess what the number one asset is. It is you. Let's think about this for a minute. If you're not available, as in you decide you no longer want to have any part of your business, will the business still be here tomorrow? most of the people listening to this podcast, you're running lifestyle businesses. You're only running a business because you want to be able to have a certain lifestyle and you want income to support that lifestyle. So that means you are the number one asset in your business. Burning yourself to the ground, doing hustle, and grind, fake it till you make it. All of these things that we hear about in entrepreneurship, when we first get started and we think I can't do this. Guess what? You don't have to, because burning yourself to the grind will not grow a business. With joy or without. If you want a business that is easy and even fun to grow, then you have to consider the number one asset. That is you. So what have you done lately to support your number one asset? You see, your business only grows to the level that you do. That means That investing in training, investing in coaching. This makes sense to a lot of people right off the top. Sure. If I invest in training and coaching, they'll teach me what to do. It'll make life easier and the business will grow. This is true. You should always have some kind of coach community training support. If you are growing a business, particularly as the business owner, lots of us are solopreneurs. We don't have a staff of people. I don't turn the lights on to the business. The business isn't open. So don't try to do this alone. Bring support around this asset. Right? You wouldn't drive your car without any gas. Why are you trying to run your business when you have no energy? Invest in your personal growth. There's more to it than that, we want to also invest in our physical health. If you're running a landscaping business, and the lawnmower that you're using has a flat tire, are you going to continue to drive on it and say, it'll be fine, I'll just keep pushing through it? No, that lawnmower is an asset in the business. You will maintain it, you will put gas in it, you will change the oil, you will make sure it has good tires, you are the number one asset, therefore, You want to be able to be focused on your physical health. That's why you hear me over and over again say, Hey, drop me in your pocket and let's go for a walk. As the number one asset in your business, physical movement matters. No amount of sitting down in front of your computer and just grinding it out on social media, saying I spent 10 hours on social media today to help grow my business and now everything hurts. That's not going to necessarily grow your business. Sometimes the best thing that you can do to grow your business. Is walk away and go for a walk, clear your head because you're the asset. And so you want to come from a place of confidence, a place of clarity that will help build that commitment piece. Remember your business only grows to the level that you do. When we do this with the Lord, Philippians one, six says he that had to be kind of good work and you will continue it to the day of Jesus Christ. You don't have to do this in your own strength. You get to do this with the Lord, with the Holy Spirit right beside you walking through this. What can you do today? This may sound okay. Okay. Yeah, I get it, Tina. I don't have time to think about taking care of me. If I just Go to one more show. If I just call one more person, that will be everything that blows the doors open on my business and my business will grow like crazy. Hold on, take a breath. What happens if your business does start to grow like crazy and you get sick? What then? What happens if your business does grow like crazy and you end up waking up in the morning, aiding having to go to work because your business has turned into work rather than something that's enjoyable that supports your lifestyle. Remember that lifestyle that you wanted while you started a business in the first place? Lots of us start the business in the first place in order to have more free time, in order to spend more time with our family. And then we forget about taking care of us. So when you start taking care of yourself, does that count as working the business? Yes, it does. Sometimes as a business coach in our Golden Heartland community, I tell our members, go take a nap because sometimes the best thing that you can do for your business is take care of you. If you are not proud of yourself, if you are not confident in your abilities, if you are not feeling good, chances are you won't be able to do the things that you need to do in order to grow the business. Anyway, make sense. So take a step back right now. Take a deep breath and exhale and let it out. Let your shoulders drop down and just assess for a minute. How are you feeling right now? Is the number one asset in your business? Is it running efficiently? Is it running at its highest level? And if it's not, What needs to happen to help it. Now, here's some things that you can incorporate into your business. That will absolutely help you support, protect, and grow the number one asset. Because when we grow the number one asset, our business will grow. Remember your business only grows to the level that you do. So what can you do today to start moving towards a joy led business that has a number one asset that runs effectively, efficiently, and allows for more fun in business? First thing that you can do, do you have a quiet time? I would bet as soon as I said that some of you went, Oh, here we go again. Schedule time every day to be quiet. I don't have time for that. I'm way too busy. I'm not suggesting you go hide. In your closet for an hour and a half every single day and don't talk to anybody. That's not realistic but are you scheduling even 10 minutes of time each day to just take a step back, be quiet, And reflect on where you are. One of the things that you can do in that reflection is ask yourself these four questions. Are you hungry? Are you angry? Are you lonely? Are you tired? When you ask yourself these four questions, are you hungry? Are you angry? Are you lonely? Are you tired? HALT. Think of the acronym HALT. What you're doing is taking an assessment of some of the physical and emotional needs that your physical body and your emotional health has. That will have an impact on decision making, it will have an impact on attitude, and it will have an impact on your progress. If you are too hungry, it's hard to think. That's biological. If you are tired, it's hard to think and make decisions. It's hard to show up with your best. If you are lonely, sometimes you will come from a place of desperation and franticness. Especially when you're trying to do sales and marketing. If you are angry, you're not going to be coming from a place of love and service as you try to sell and grow your business. You're going to be coming from a place that is really turning your customers off. So take a step back first in that quiet time and ask those four questions. Am I hungry? Am I angry? Am I lonely? Am I tired? And then your number one task in business that day is to address any areas that need work in those four areas. That's one thing that you can do in your quiet time. That next thing that you can do is prioritize self care. So when you go through that process and you're finding out that you need something, let's, I'm super angry about, Oh, I don't know. I'm super angry about the fact that my car broke down last week and now I don't have a vehicle to drive. Well, now it's time to take a step back and deal with that issue so that you are no longer angry about it. That's actually working on your business. When you are working on yourself, you are working on your business. Does that make sense? So, prioritize self care. And I'm not saying everybody needs to go get a bubble bath. What I'm saying is, get to know who you are, really understand you as the number one asset in the business and say, what do I need most? I'll give you an example. I am an introvert that does not mean that I am shy or that I'm anti social or that I don't like people. What that means is that interacting with people tends to drain my energy. So as an introvert and the number one asset in my business, One of the things that is a business activity for me is sitting down and reading a book alone away from everyone else. Maybe it's going for a quiet drive. It's getting some space. If I overschedule and say, I'm hustling, I'm doing something business every day. I've got six meetings today. I'm meeting all these new people. What will happen? And I know this for a fact, because it has happened in my business. What will happen? Is that I will grow a business that I don't like to run and then I will get sick. So maybe that's you. Maybe you say I'm an introvert. Therefore, I can't grow my business. No, you need to design a business around the fact that you need to manage your energy a little differently. So, you're not going to hustle and grind lots of people that I work with, they do craft shows and vendor shows, art shows, those types of things. If you know you're going to be out in 80 degree heat for three days at an art show, it's okay to say the following day, it's not the business is closed. The following day is I am in recharge mode and that is still working on the business. Make sense? So what we're doing practical steps is number one. We're going to make sure every single day. We schedule a quiet time number two. We're going to practice and prioritize self care and we're going to count that as working. That's not being lazy if you're taking care of your physical, emotional and mental and spiritual needs. You are still working the business because you are taking care of the number one asset. Make sense? Number three, that we're going to do is celebrate success. It does not always have to be work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work. Sometimes you really need to take a step back and celebrate the success that you've had. And that success sometimes is I showed up again. I'm here again. I know exactly what the clarity is of what I'm trying to grow. And I'm trying and that needs to be celebrated. So if you have not done it lately, I want you to do this right now. Now if you're driving, don't do this, but if you're not driving, reach out, put your hand on your back and pat yourself on the back because the fact that you are listening to a podcast and you are working on growing a business with joy with the Lord is bonus points. So give yourself a big pat on the back. Number four, the last thing that I want you to do as a practical strategy to be able to take care of the number one assets, practice gratitude. Here's what happens. When you practice gratitude, when you start looking at what you do have versus what you don't have, your mindset shifts. Recently, we had some things happen in our business and in our home that created lots of chaos and had a lot of things that needed to be done. And I found myself focusing on what needs to be done next, what needs to be done next, what needs to be done next, what needs to be done next. And you can hear it, I hope, in my voice. That what that did for me was continue to feel heavier and heavier and heavier and for a while, all I did was focus on what was the emergency thing in front of me. And didn't look at the bigger picture. And the number one asset was really struggling and I prayed about it. and I felt led to think about gratitude. What about gratitude? And I started looking back and I started making a list of the things that had been done, not just the things that still needed to be done and looking at, wow, in a short period of time, we've got a lot of stuff to do. There's still a lot of really good here. And all of a sudden a lightness started to come in to my energy. My motivation started to go up and I started to feel like perhaps I wasn't going to be buried with my business. This is Penn Stens. When you do these four things, when you schedule a quiet time, and what you can do in that quiet time is prioritize your self care, celebrate some successes, practice some gratitude. Here's what the result is. The result is you start to have more motivation. It's easier to make decisions about what to do next. You have more confidence and essentially more peace and joy. John 15 11 says, I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. Here's what I know that I know that I know. I know. That if you will prioritize building a life that is joy led, you will end up with a business that is joy led and you will have something amazing that you never expected. I understand that this can sound like a lot of theory and a lot of times business coaches will tell you do this, do this, do this without any tools. So here's what I did. I designed something that we call the joy led business daily journal, and you can get that daily journal free on the golden heartland website at golden heartland. com slash get organized. And what does the daily journal do for you? What it does is it gives you a quick, easy structure for this quiet time that I'm talking about. Each day you will sit down and you have one paper to fill out that allows you to bring this stuff in in a simple and easy way. So you'll sit down and you'll write out your business vision again. What is it that you are actually trying to grow? You'll write three things that you're grateful for. You'll take an assessment of, are you committed to this or not? And then you get a place to write what you're thinking about, to write a prayer with the Lord, and just really have a chance to center yourself and ground yourself in a simple, free one page document that can be completed in as little as five minutes each day. And I will guarantee you, if you will spend. Five to 10 minutes each day, working on the number one asset, you're going to see some changes in your business and your business is going to be better than it was before. So let's wrap this up. What did we talk about today? We talked about what it means to be joy led. We talked about those three components of being joy led clarity, confidence, commitment, and then we talked about this number one asset, the number one asset in the business is you. Your business will only grow to the level that you do. So take some time to invest in this number one asset in supporting it, in making sure that it's not broken and taking care of parts that might not be working in celebrating the parts that are just maybe being grateful for it. And then I shared with you about our free joy led daily planner that you can get. On a website at golden heartland. com slash get organized in closing. You are doing an amazing job running a business and growing a business and having a lifestyle together at the same time can be challenging, but it is so worth it and I promise we'll get easier leaning into this idea that you are the number one asset and that sometimes the best thing you can do to grow your business. Just take a nap. It will help, I promise. So here's what I want you to do. Grab your daily planner. And take a walk, take a nap, get a glass of water, exhale. You've got this. Let me pray. We will end for today. Father, thank you. Thank you that you never want us to be hungry, angry, lonely, or tired. You are always there and that you have resources available that we just need to take a breath, step back, lean into you, and let the joy flow. In Jesus name. Amen. All right, guys. Go get them. Don't hustle. Take care of you. You've been listening to the Coming Home to Joy Business Podcast. For more joy and business, check out our website at goldenheartland. com.
