I can't wait to share this journey with you. Welcome back. It's Tina Joy Cochran, your coach and guide on this joy led business journey. And I am glad that you're here. Let me go ahead and I'm going to pray for you. And then we're going to jump into today's topic. Today's topic is the five characteristics of a joy led business owner. What is it that makes a Us a joy led business owner. What does it look like and how can we get there? Let's pray. Father, thank you for these amazing people. Thank you for that. Technology allows us to connect with each other and to connect with you. Be with us in this time and help us to hear what you would have us hear in Jesus name. Amen All right. Let me start with a story. I Met someone we'll call her Sarah and when I first met Sarah Sarah had Started her business or let me rephrase her business had grown up around her. She had been thinking, wouldn't it be cool if I could make a living creating the things that I already do anyway? And friends were telling her, Oh, that's so cool. You need to make a business out of that. And she was running around doing all kinds of different things. And when we sat down for coffee and I said, tell me what it's like to be a business owner, and she said, you know what, if I was completely honest, I can't stay focused. I have got 500 things going all the time. I really don't even know what I'm supposed to be doing next. I feel like I'm just flying by the seat of my pants. I am terrified. I wake up at three in the morning, afraid of losing it all. And. Never knowing where the next dollar is going to come from. Afraid that I'm going to go broke in the process. And you know what, Tina? I feel terribly alone. Have you ever felt like that? I know I have. And when Sarah was sharing that with me, I totally understood where she was coming from. I do this podcast, because. I remember those days when I felt exactly like that, when I'd wake up at two in the morning in a sweat saying, I'm not a business owner and I don't know what I'm doing. Well, let's fast forward, Sarah started working on this joy led process. She started exploring what it was like to step back and let joy lead and have God become partner of your business. And the next time we sat down to have coffee and I asked her the same question, Sarah, what's it like to be a business owner? Her answer was completely different. Her answer was, Tina, I'm so glad I get to be a business owner. Now it is amazing how much things have changed because I know what I want for my business and I'm learning every day. I've got confidence in the things that I've already built and I'm building new stuff that helps me get there faster. And you know what? One of the biggest things I learned was. That I don't have to be afraid anymore that there is an abundance in the world and that my business actually provides more abundance rather than pulls from the world and I'm not lonely anymore because I found a bunch of people who think like me and I've started letting myself connect with them. And business is totally different. That my friends is the difference between when you have joy and when you don't have joy leading your business. So when we look at that and we hear it in a story, that's great. But What are the characteristics? Let's break it down. When you are a joy led business owner, there are five basic characteristics that come into play. Number one is vision. What do I mean by vision? Vision is knowing what success means for you. In the Bible in Proverbs 29, 18, it talks about without a vision that people will perish. And this is what we're trying to do. We're trying to figure out a way to have clarity around what is it you want to do. If you're going to go on a trip and you just Say I'm going on a trip, but you never pick where you're going. You're going to stay stuck or you're going to spin. So starting out with a vision of where you want to go takes you from confusion to clarity and how do we do that? Well, listen to what God's plan is for us and if you ask, I promise he will tell you what he has planned for you. So here's a tip. Sit quietly, pray, listen to what you hear, and then start to write down what success looks like for you. Not what the others say. Not what you think a business owner should say success is like. What is success for you? What is it? That will make you wake up in the morning with clarity around what is the business you are creating and what does it look like when it's done as you do that, you're confusion starts to clear away and we get some clarity of vision. So number 1 is vision. Number 2 characteristic of a joy led business owner is growth. Continuous learning. Joyland business owners are committed to building the things that they need in order to get confidence to move forward. One of the things we have to learn is how to handle the negative mindsets that naturally show up. Our brains are actually hardwired for negativity and we need to learn the skills in order to be able to, as the Bible says in 2nd Corinthians 10. 5. Take every thought captive. So as you start to lean into vision and listening to God's plan for your business and for you, then the next step is to take those thoughts captive and start to grow into a more positive mindset and learn the things that you need to learn. So here's a tip for how to get started. Answer this question for me. What have you learned this week? Are you looking at how you're thinking and maybe making some changes? What books are you reading? What coaches are you working with? What lessons are you learning? Are you doing in order to change things so that it's taking you closer to that vision? So as you start to step into being joy led, first characteristic of a joy led business owner is having a clear vision. The next step is they're continually growing. And then the third characteristic is focus. We tend to jump into action real quick and we walk in 500 directions at once, but we don't know what the next thing to do is. Joy led business owners. They know what the next thing to do is because of Thessalonians 5, 16. And 17 because they pray without ceasing when you put yourself in a place where you are honoring the vision that the Lord has for you, where you are committed to taking your thoughts captive and learning what you need to learn to grow and then adding prayer to that and praying without ceasing. That takes you from this distract ability where you're very, very distracted all the time in that you can commit To staying focused and commit to sometimes doing the same activity multiple times so that your customers can find you. So here's a tip. When you start to feel frazzled, when you start to feel that I just don't know what I'm supposed to be doing. I just need to be doing a hundred things. I just need to keep moving. Stop. Take a breath. Think about your vision. Turn your thoughts from that negativity that is saying you've got to do everything. And if you don't do everything, everything will fall apart. Take a breath, reconnect to the vision of where your business is going, what success looks like for you, and then pray. I promise it will settle things down for you and no amount of rushing and running around and hurry will make your business successful. What's going to make your business successful is consistent Confident actions when you are doing it like a laser beam and not like a shotgun. Makes sense. All right. Next characteristic of a joy led business owner is something you might not think about. And I promise if you embrace this and pull this into your life, you will see things start to change. As we become business owners, we tend to get to this place where we are constantly not enough. We're not busy enough, we don't have enough customers, we don't have enough money, we don't have enough, we're not doing enough. If we could just do more, be more, see more, talk more, everything would be okay. And what we forget to do is we forget about Characteristic number four, which is gratitude. What do I mean by gratitude? Gratitude is taking the time to appreciate and respect what you have. Now, as you put a vision in front of you, it's, it's easy to be constantly looking at the vision and. Never being there yet and not appreciating what is now. So joy led business owners, they lean into 4, where they thank God in every remembrance of you. They thank God about what is currently happening. And when you do that, it takes you from a place of a poverty mindset, where I'm not enough mindset into a place of abundance, where you realize that There is enough, there is enough time, there is enough energy, there is enough money. You might not see it at the current moment, but that doesn't mean it's not there. So gratitude can play a significant role in shifting you from The hustle and grind and the business owner that is sad, lonely, distracted, frustrated, awake at three in the morning, panicked and stressed to a business owner that walks in a confidence and in a clarity and in a commitment to showing up every day for the business that God has given them to steward at promise. It can make a huge difference. God bless you.. If you today feel not enough, then try this tip. Take a step back. Lean into the other tip. Say, what is, what is it that I'm really trying to do? Where are my mindsets negative that I can change? And then pray and start to think about what do I currently have now. See in business a lot of times we'll set goals and we'll be focused on all the things that are missing and all the things that we need. And what we lose sight of is what we currently have now. I pray, Guarantee that if you will take a step back and give yourself chance every morning to think of three things that you currently have now that you can appreciate and respect and honor that it is here. Now, I'll give you an example. You're you have you're listening to a podcast. Well, that means you actually have taken a step to move forward to learn today. So if you're thinking, Oh, I haven't learned anything. I'm not working hard enough. I'm not. No. Yes, you are. Yes, you are. Just by doing this, even if you are listening to this podcast while you are running around doing a zillion other things, you are taking a step. So you can be grateful for technology that allows you to do that. You can be grateful for the fact that you woke up this morning. Sometimes I'm, I'm up, I'm vertical, I'm out of bed. Is the best you've got and that's okay. There's three things you can be grateful for. I'm up, I'm out of bed and I'm moving forward. Three things. Last, the fifth characteristic of a joy led business owner is connection. Business tends to turn into a solo sport. If you let it. We get so focused on our own business and our own needs and our own goals that we start to see everyone else around us as competition. We start to see everyone around us as distraction or demands of other things. The more we start to look at our vision, the more we will, if we're not careful, if we're not praying if we're not being grateful. If we are not taking the time to change our negative thoughts, what we will do is step into a place of this scarcity mentality where we are fighting against the people around us to push towards our goals rather than connect with them. And joy led business owners understand that they are part of something bigger, that it is not really about you. One of my mentors uses the phrase, it's never about the business. It's never about the money. It's never about you. It's always about Jesus. And Colossians 3 23 says we should work with all our heart as unto the Lord. If we are working in partnership with the Lord on a vision that he has given us, then we have everything that we need through him to get where we want to go. But we weren't designed to do it alone. That isolation, when you start to step into connection, you can take yourself from isolation to a place of feeling like you're in community. When Sarah told me that she was no longer lonely, it made me feel so good because she was no longer thinking that she had to go and do everything on her own and that nobody understood. You're not alone in what you're doing. There are others who are trying to do some of, some of the same things in their way. So here's your tip. Why don't you reach out to one person today and tell them you appreciate them? Now what if you're saying, Tina, I don't have time to do that, and I can't even think of who I would. Go back up, To your focus and pray and ask what's interesting in this journey to be joy led is that sometimes someone will come to mind and it takes less than 30 seconds to drop a text to that person and just say, hey, I'm glad you're in the world today. You do not know what that person is going through. And you don't know that that little touch will change their lives. But more importantly, it will change yours because it will give you an opportunity to open yourself to connection with other people. Bonus points in this tip would be to schedule a time to have a conversation with someone. Remember when Sarah and I first met, it was over coffee. We were just having a conversation and because we had connected before it became safe for her to share with me how much she was struggling. It also became fun and safe to share when things started going much better. You do not have to do this entrepreneurial journey alone. A lot of us live in rural areas. When you live in a rural area and you have a rural lifestyle, sometimes you live a very lonely lifestyle just by geographics that you are out on acreage. You don't go into town a lot and it's hard to think about having other people around. Some of us are introverts. We don't like to be around other people. That's okay. But you can connect with other people on your terms in your way when you pull these other things in and build a community around you that you love to be with that doesn't suck the life out of you. I promise I've had it and experienced it in my life. So I know for sure that it works because if I can do it, you can do it. So let's put this all together. When you pull together. These five characteristics of a joy led business owner. When you have a vision, when you are committed to growing and learning, when you embrace focus, gratitude, and connection, you end up having a. written definition of success. You basically have it written out what success looks like for you so that you can keep growing and learning towards it. You get to stop and pray and appreciate the things that are happening now. And then you get to share your world with someone else. These things together will set you up as a joy led business owner. And when you grow in this way, the bonus, the is that your business grows as well because you're treating it with gratitude and respect and praying for it and growing to be the person that God had in mind for you when he placed this business dream in your heart. See, God doesn't give us a dream that he won't equip us to do. So here's my prayer for you. John 1511 is a core scripture for me, for the Golden Heartland community, for any joy led business owner. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. Jesus did not do what he did so that. We could be in scarcity and poverty mindset, struggling and fear. That is not what the goal was. The goal was that his joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. This is what we're after. It isn't so much about how do we hustle and grind our way to seven figures. It's about how do we grow in joy so that joy leads the way in our business. And what does it look like? when you are a business owner who leads with joy, you step into the world with confidence. You step into the world with clarity on what you are, what you're doing. You step into the world with a commitment to show up and you are willing to connect with people. It makes a huge difference. And I hope that you are inspired to do something today. Let's talk one more time about the tips that you can do. So, number one, write down what success looks like for you. Number two, ask yourself, what can I learn? How can I take these negative thoughts and learn how to switch them to positive? Stop, breathe, pray, whenever you feel frazzled. Every single day, list three things that you appreciate about what is now, and reach out to just one person and tell them you appreciate them, and maybe even grab a time to sit down and have a cup of coffee or have a conversation. If this sounds like something that might be a little bit overwhelming, one of the things that I put together and it is a free gift for you. And I've designed a free daily journal that puts a structure it gives you the opportunity. To just open up that first sheet and just walk through it and revisit your vision and pray and feel that gratitude. I'm going to pray for you. And then I have one more final thought. Father, we know that you already know the dream that you birthed in our hearts. We know that you have provided Everything that we need, whether it's customers, we haven't met yet, whether it's things we haven't learned yet, whether it's tools we still need, whether it's connections and people we need to meet that you already have them out there for us, help us to just step into that place. Of showing up with you in joy and letting joy lead us in this business owner journey. In Jesus name, amen. I know sometimes all this business stuff can seem like it's just too much and that's okay. Hang on and rest if you must, but don't quit this dream, this business that you're trying to do. It's worth it. And it matters. It matters to me. It matters to God. Until next time, keep going.
