Wisdom for the Day - Everyday
Day 332 Gratitude Keeps You Humble | Deuteronomy 8:17–18
When success stacks up, it’s tempting to believe we built it alone. Today we slow down and tell a different story—one rooted in Deuteronomy 8:17–18 and the quiet conviction that God gives the power to produce. We explore how gratitude becomes a daily guardrail against pride, how it reframes our wins without diminishing hard work, and how a simple five‑minute practice can reset the heart before ambition sets the agenda.
I share a short reading from the New Living Translation and unpack the tension between “I did this” and “God did this for me.” We talk about the hidden inputs behind every visible outcome—timing you didn’t control, mentors you didn’t invent, health you didn’t engineer—and why naming them out loud shifts your internal story from entitlement to worship. You’ll hear a brief, honest prayer for humility, plus a concrete way to start: thank God for specific abilities, opportunities, and resources, and say that none of it would be possible without Him.
If you’ve felt the pressure to keep proving yourself, this reflection offers relief and a path back to peace. Gratitude doesn’t make you passive; it makes you accurate. It frees you to steward influence without clinging, to share credit without fear, and to hold both success and setback under the same generous hand. Listen, pray with me, and try the five‑minute gratitude reset today. If it helps, share this episode with a friend, subscribe for more daily wisdom, and leave a quick review so others can find it too.

Welcome to Wisdom for the Day, your daily source for spiritual refreshment and guidance. I'm Rick. Join me as I dive into God's Word to find clarity and strength for life's challenges. Let me help you embrace each day with faith and wisdom. Ready to feel inspired? Let's get started. Today is day 332. Gratitude keeps you humble. From Deuteronomy chapter 8, verses 17 and 18, from the New Living Translation. He did all this so you would never say to yourself, I have achieved this wealth with my own strength and energy. Remember the Lord, your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful. You know, when life is going really well, it's easy to think your success is the result of your own efforts. Gratitude keeps you humble. It reminds you that every ability, every opportunity, every resource comes from God. Pride says, I did this on my own. Gratitude says, God, you did this for me. Today, what I want you to do is spend five minutes thanking God for all the abilities and opportunities that He's given you. Tell Him you know none of it would be possible without Him. And mean it. Just mean it. Pray with me. Lord God, help me to stay humble. Help me, Lord, to remember that every blessing comes from you. I want to give you the credit, and I want to give you the glory for every good thing in my life. I ask this in Jesus' name. Amen. Well, that's all for today. But I'll be back tomorrow with more of God's word. To listen to past episodes, go to wisdomforthey.org.
